Thanks @sjnsjnsjn and @hannahbananas11 - The good thing that came out of it was that DH suggested we relax and go for breakfast at a diner before heading back to work. So we had a Belgian waffle mini date on a Thursday morning among all the local retirees and cops.
@casperthefriendlybeeb I can totally relate to the stress! I’m glad they were able to go ahead with the ultrasound.
Had my AS today at 18w, baby looks good, and it’s a boy! Decided to go for the amnio just to put our minds at ease and should get the results from that on Monday or Tuesday. I’m just relieved that baby is looking healthy, I feel exhausted from carrying the anxiety about this ultrasound with me all week (on top of a cold).
@eggsandwich2019 So glad the AS went well, what a weight off your shoulders! Amino was probably a good choice too, that way there will be no doubt. And yay for boy!!

Anatomy scan tomorrow. So excited, bring DH and DD for the first time. What's the deal with the bladder situation, full or halfish full? I forgot to call the office and ask.
Had my scan today! Baby is measuring a few days ahead, and it was very uneventful (which I consider great news!). @lzzfrancisco I saved up all my pee, and then they told me to give a sample right before and that I didn't need a full bladder.
@lzzfrancisco - I wasn't sure either and went with a full-ish bladder and the tech said it helped. They'll let you pee if they don't need you full so I don't think there's much to lose except a bit of discomfort.
Finally had mine today! Over 21 weeks so about as late as they’d let me go. Still team green and baby looks perfect! 68th percentile and very active. So fun to watch
I had my ultra sound yesterday, was a bit annoyed as my hubby was told to wait outside for almost all of it and he got to sit in the last 5 mins.
It was a long one, about 75 minutes. So I was super tired and grumpy after a long day at work, and baby was being stubborn. I held strong and am still team green! Baby looked great from what I can tell but the technician won't tell us anything so I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow! I did learn my placenta is in the front but not covering my cervix, so I think that is ok, from what I have read? I also learned we are now 21 weeks instead of 20 weeks WHOA! I almost feel a bit more stressed, have so many questions and the ultrasound tech couldn't tell me anything!
@bhou So frustrating that they wouldn't let your husband sit in, and that the tech wouldn't/couldn't tell you anything. Hopefully you will get all of your questions answered to your satisfaction by your doctor!
@bhou that is so weird they wouldn’t let your H in with you for the whole thing! Seems very rude and old fashioned, it’s your body and the baby is both yours and his.
Also yeah, if your placenta isn’t covering the cervix, it’s all good!

@bhou , my experience was the same... hubby wait outside for an hour and 40 mins. Then got invited in last 5 mins. We both only got to see the screen for 5 mins. All i learned from mine at the time was "very active baby"... so strange how practices do things so differently, some let people see the whole time. ugh!!
@bhou that's the policy here too. It's annoying but I also get why they do it. That's wild that you skipped ahead a week! I thought that didn't happen after the dating scan.
Yeah, i find it a little bit old school. That is baby is both of ours - we should both be entitled to be there! Way to make motherhood/fatherhood that further back in the past. Not that I could see anything for the first while, but still, how to make a father not feel involved Vol.1 Hoping that my family doctor can give me more information. Did anyone have any specific questions they asked regarding their anatomy scan? I want to make sure I don't forget any questions when I see my doctor tomorrow! Couple I had a - is baby doing ok? -when the heck will i feel baby(I haven't' felt anything, but have been reassured baby is in there!)
and i've blanked again, I had so many questions yesterday and none in my head today today!
@bhou is your placenta low-lying or anterior? Mine was covering my cervix with DS, then moved and was considered "low-lying" for a while (but I was still on pelvic rest) and then moved eventually. I always ask if they got all the pictures they needed - DS and this baby are both stubborn so we had to schedule a second anatomy scan to see some parts they couldn't get the first time (for example DS wouldn't let them measure his femurs, this baby wouldn't let them see her spine or profile)
@bhou- So weird! My OB's office expects the dads for everything and my OB even commented at my 16 week appt about how he didn't come and reminded me that he should come for the anatomy scan. Are you in the US? i also hate it for you guys, when I read of people having the experience of the US tech not telling them anything! I have had this tech at multiple pregnancies including *TW* the one that ended in MC before I had my son, *end TW*, and she always is so informative as she goes through the whole time! Everyone deserves that imo.
Had the AS this morning, and everything looks great! Baby is measuring one week ahead on size across the board, but they're keeping my due date at 2/15. Plus, we found out that we're having a little boy! I've abandoned Team Green. Sorry, guys!
@bhou- I mean, right? It's no virgin birth . Also, shouldn't they want the other parent to be as invested emotionally as possible in the baby before it is born?! Considering that dudes get way more connected (or at least mine does) from tangible things like scans, it seems like something they really extra need to come to. Ok, rant over.
H got so much from being there at the US with me both times. Women feel the baby’s presence one way or another throughout the entire pregnancy, and I understand it’s often difficult to feel as involved as a man. If it’s not happening to your body, it’s pretty abstract until you have an actual screaming baby in your arms! The US is such a great way for dads to be included.
Besides, if they had found something wrong with the baby I definitely would have wanted H to be there so we could get the news together. Same for our upcoming AS, and I don’t want to know the sex before he does!

I don't get why they wouldn't allow the father into the US room, unless space was super tight or something. But even then, they need to have enough room for another person, for instance if the patient has a translator or interpreter. I agree with @grebretso: My H was super into the AS this morning, and said at the end "This seems so much more real now!". He got really excited when the tech was looking at the heart and blood flow, and also was really interested in the spine, brain, and other organs. I think he was actually more into it than I was, because to me, everything looked like potatoes and sticks (he's familiar with US imagery, since he uses it in oncology treatment).
I hope everyone is having a happy and healthy pregnancy! I have my anatomy scan on Friday and have started getting really nervous about it. I love baby so much already and just want a healthy scan. Any tips or suggestions for calming my nerves?
At my hospital it distinctly feels like they get the 'work' out of the way first and then the support person gets to come in and it's fun. They show you just for the sake of showing for a few minutes and answer minor questions. I mean, limited ressources, right? This is still a medical procedure.
It’s a medical procedure, but it’s not like the support person is in the way if they’re present. During my NT scan, the tech had to poke and prod to get baby into a good position, which was part of the procedure and not for entertainment, but that was also the part where we got to see baby moving around the most. If H had come in just for the pictures at the end, he would have missed the best part!
I agree that the medical professionals need to be given the opportunity to do their job uninterrupted, but I don’t see that conflicting with having another person in the room. Especially not when the other person is as involved as the patient.

I had my AS yesterday. Should I expect my Dr to call and give me a reading on the images. I feel like the tech was vague and she didn't give any interpretations, as expected.
I guess we should be happy that ours is free @bhou & @becks_726 ... but still the first time it happened I thought the tech was being a crusty old fashioned lady.. but for my a/s which was done at the hospital by a male it was the same routine, so i figured it was just standard.
At my office (in the US), the ultrasound rooms have flat screen TVs on the wall that display the tech’s screen for the patient. We can bring up to 2 people into the room and we get to see the entire thing. Our scans are scheduled in tandem with the doctors visit, so I will have my AS on Friday at 2, then I’ll see my OB at 3:15. Techs are not allowed to interpret any findings for you even if they can identify them.
AS went perfect today. Measuring ahead for the 3rd time so they changed my due date! baby boy was so wiggly and wild the whole time, but we were able to get all the measurements fairly quickly.
Our RainbowBaby H arrived at 37 weeks on 12/20/16!

So glad you started this! I had my scan this past Monday. Everything looked good except I have a fibroid (had never heard of that before). I asked the doctor what that was and she said a benign growth in my uterine lining that is just something they will watch but are not worried about. Of course I went home and googled it and freaked myself out because of all that it says “could” happen with a fibroid but I’ll trust what’s happening.
We planned to find out at the scan but before she even told us the sex we both had seen a glimpse on the screen and so a hint at what the sex was. If we were having a girl I probably wouldn’t have known until she pointed it out but our boy’s anatomy was pretty obvious to us. The tech must’ve not been ready to tell us because she quickly went back to the head to finish her measurements and then at the end was ready to reveal the sex and confirmed what I had thought to myself with that quick glimpse. I’m sure if you make sure the tech knows they can avoid a slip like that.
Oh a I am a posterior placenta and feel this baby moving - have been for a couple weeks.
And we were so convinced the baby was a girl that we were in serious shock for an hour after the scan just wrapping our heads around how we were so convinced and hadn’t thought about raising a boy because that’s how sure we were haha
