@zuuls_mom yess! Oysters are so good! I’m obsessed. You can eat them raw or steamed on a saltine cracker with cocktail sauce and horseradish, or some places will offer them baked with toppings like cheese, bacon, garlic, spinach, etc. Oysters aren’t for everyone, but you should definitely try them!
@zuuls_mom the first time I had an oyster I almost threw up 😂 but now I love them! I’ve learned I LOVE raw oysters with a bunch of cocktail sauce and lemon juice on top. Yummmm

There's an oyster and wine tasting in my city next month. Hubs made a point of indicating that he might go on Facebook and tagged me in it. I glared at him.
I've noticed drastic changes in my cravings and appetites in the past week and a half. Carbs are the only thing that has remained consistent especially the saltines to help with the nausea. But for a few days I wanted to put mustard on everything. I usually have a pretty sweet tooth and I have not been craving anything sweet at all. I was able to get more protein in around week 5 but as soon as I hit week 6 the only thing I could stomach is dried Cheerios and sipping on broth. I was also doing really good about drinking a lot of water but now it just makes me nauseous so low sugar fruit punch Gatorade definitely helps when it's really cold.
During my second pregnancy I craved Peruvian rice and beans from a quickie joint near where I lived. Now I don't live there and I'm terrified of craving it again and not being able to get it!!!
But right now I'd kill for some dim sum........I'm salivating over Pinterest pictures.........
We had friends over for football so I made buffalo chicken dip, buffalo cauliflower bites, and a margherita pizza, and friends brought cookies. Very happy. Very full.
I am the most lax pregnant woman when it comes to food. I ate sushi all through both of my previous two pregnancies - though I've always liked rolls best, so I guess there's less raw fish in those. And, but true favourite is dynamite rolls, which are cooked anyway. This time around, we don't get sushi as much because we live in a much smaller city so sushi is a) expensive and b) not as good. I miss sushi.

@k2k2tog I was just thinking about sushi today. We always go to Benihana for our birthdays and DHs is coming up next month. I had a panic about not being able to eat sushi but then remembered that a) my favorite rolls are cooked and b) my favorite hibachi meal is the salmon with Udon noodles, so good to go!
Im only 5 weeks but H and I told our moms today only so that my mom will cook me her food! (We had to tell his mom because we didn't want to offend her by not telling her at the same time.) Hehe. I love my mom's food! And she loves cooking for me and my sisters when we're pregnant.
And I do literally do this dance when I'm about to eat my favorite meals.
I want all the carbs. The hubs and I had za yesterday, and I was loving dipping the crust in icing. So weird...Also, red meat and anything super spicy. My favorite lately has been Samyang 2x spicy ramen. Its literally like satan is dancing in your digestive system, and I can't help but love it.
On the downside, most cheese tastes so much like soap to me right now. I had some queso blanco and couldn't eat it because it was legit like squirting dish soap in my mouth, same thing with some mac and cheese I had a few days ago.
I have had zero appetite for anything other than bland foods like granola except I did almost down a bag of salt and vinegar chips. Trying to eat healthy, but those hit the spot.
@expandcontract I told my mom and DH didn't love it but I was like "we can tell your parents if you want but you have to tell them if something happens." Basically, I'd want my mom to know before something happened that I was pregnant whereas DH doesn't talk to his parents like that. We told them at 6 weeks last pregnancy since we were visiting for Christmas and I was feeling horrible but we'll wait longer this time it seems.
@bluesky24 I soooo miss sushi and a good poke powl. I love tuna and haven't had ANY in almost 2 years and probably wont for another 2 - the good tuna, raw, not the dumb stuff from a can I know is okay in small amounts. Sushi was my first meal after leaving the hospital with DD! Looks like there's some parasite/worm that could be bad if the fish wasn't frozen before but I like to look up *why* we aren't supposed to eat certain things. If it's listeria and can cross the placenta - avoid at all costs. If it's just something that will make me sick but not harm the baby aside from me being slightly dehydrated - I actually still usually avoid it but am a little less crazy about it.
@msb615 it did! Not as satisfying, of course, but it did the trick. Actually I almost threw up near the end of it because apparently pregnant me is much more sensitive to the texture of seaweed
I’ve been craving this one particular udon dish that is out of the way and hard to find parking for. I dragged my family there on Sunday only to realize that my pregnancy brain screwed up and read the hours wrong and they were closed on Sundays. Sooo disappointed!
But I ended up taking us to a different restaurant I wanted to try for sometime and now my husband is joking that I masterminded a whole plot about craving udon just to finally try out the new restaurant. Please.... I barely know where my car keys are these days, let alone have the brain capacity to orchestrate a crazy plan just to try a new restaurant.
@sleepy33 hypoglycemia here too! No fun. Usually I can keep things under control with some protein (cheese, PB, etc.), but I may need to step up the protein game since I am so hungry all the time now! What do you usually reach for to keep yourself full? Halp.
@zuuls_mom Sorry, was on vacay this weekend and just now seeing this! For me, I definitely abide by a 'no naked carbs' rule, meaning I absolutely can't eat like, just a croissant. There must be protein with it. I pretty much require something with bacon and eggs for breakfast, whether that's a breakfast burrito, biscuit sandwich, breakfast bowl, or a couple of hardboiled eggs and some microwave bacon. Lunch and dinner both have to have some sort of meat, and the larger the proportion the better. Snacks are cheese and nut-based. I will say, though, that at times when dieting, I'd try an Atkins-based approach where I ate literally only protein, and that actually seems to not be helpful with the hypoglycemia. You've got to have a little carb in there to balance for quick energy with the protein in the background for longer stable energy.
@sleepy33 thank you for the tips! I think I need to make some freezer breakfast burritos for a quick meal. I did those for while I was on leave last time and they were perfect! I have to have something pretty quickly in the morning and eat it while driving so that's my big hurdle. I've been doing toast with some almond or pb and sliced banana this week and that seems to be helping. Crossing everything that my banana aversion doesn't come back this time! haha

@zuuls_mom girl, I feel you hard on that, hence why I got into such a bad habit of getting fast food drive thru breakfast every morning on the way to drop off my son. Jimmy Dean actually has some very tasty breakfast bowls that have eggs, meat, cheese and potatoes in them, and like 20+ grams of protein. I can nuke one of those while I'm getting ready to leave the house and manage to eat it at stoplights on the way.
@zuuls_mom OMG those frozen breakfast burritos postpartum were a lifesaver! and PB and banana toast is also one of my go-tos right now. I also really like strawberries on my PB toast when I don't have any bananas.
The last week, for breakfast I could only stomach saltines or toast with a tiny bit of butter on it. I took the advice of eating a rice cake right after I woke up to keep the nausea at bay and it somewhat worked. While driving to work, I decided to an egg mcmuffin from mcdonalds (I know, really bad, but it is one of the healthier things on their menu) and I was able to eat 90% of it. Glad I finally got in some protein. It's been weeks since I've been able to stomach eggs. What a relief. I still feel nauseous but only half the amount that I've been suffering in the mornings thus far. Fingers crossed I can stomach more than chicken soup for lunch!
@sleepy33 my mouth is literally watering looking at that picture. I want to suck the butter off everything because I bet it tastes AMAZING!!!! Suuuuuuuuuper duper jealous. Oh my. I am so hungry for protein I may have to make myself some shrimp scampi for dinner!!!
@sleepy33 I'm insanely jealous - those shrimp look amazing and I've been turning my nose up at everything today. And of course where I live, good fresh shrimp is hard to come by, so I will just have to keep dreaming.
Had an avocado roll today - definitely hit the spot and I wasn't nearly as nauseous today. But it's gonna make me take some milk of magnesium tonight. I love rice but my colon does not lol
All my food cravings lately seem to be for non pregnancy safe foods. There’s this Italian market that makes the most amazing deli subs and I want one so badly I can almost taste it. I literally dreamed about eating one last night. Also massively craving sushi, specifically spicy tuna rolls. The sushi place we normally go to does have some cooked rolls, so I may have to give those and try and see if it helps.
