Ultrasounds

Hi everyone, hope it’s okay I’m starting this!  I know it’s early but we got to see our little bean this morning (one of the very few perks of IF!) so here s/he is at 6w2d!  Saw the sweetest little heartbeat there ever was.  So amazing that there is so much there in such a very tiny little package!  <3

  • @BWhitta is it normal to have an ultrasound at your first appointment? Mine is a 90 minute appointment with just a nurse.

  • @mrskoz428I don’t believe so, that should mainly be informational and probably some blood work!  I am pretty sure most practices wait until 10-12 weeks for ultrasounds, but I could be wrong!

@mrskoz428 my experience with my last BMB is that when you get your first ultrasound ranges a lot. If you were going through fertility treatments or otherwise working with an RE, it'll likely be earlier. My OB will do one for anyone around 8 weeks to help date the pregnancy, which is pretty normal, but others don't have their first appt until 10-12 weeks and some will have an appointment earlier but not an ultrasound. Long story short, it varies, but I would recommend asking your doctor's office what you can expect at your first appointment. I knew I was having an ultrasound but thought it would be abdominal so went in with a full bladder (supposed to help see that early on) and it was vaginal which was really uncomfortable with the bladder pressure, too.

  • @mrskoz428 - Don't worry, mine is informational as well. Like @kvh22 said, it totally varies across providers/situations, so try not to compare too much.

@BWhitta Congratulations!! I missed this before asking how your u/s went in the weekly randoms. Such a relief to see a heartbeat, right? That's awesome news!

  • Thanks for sharing these beautiful images ladies! It actually encourages me to push my US to 3 or 4 more days ahead. They booked me for one at 5 wks 4 days (I had an ectopic this time last year so my dr is taking precautions)

I will ask that they reschedule me to 6 weeks for more chances of getting heartrate information.

  • Love all of these ultrasounds! We have our first one tomorrow at 6w1d - wish us luck!
  • Congrats! I have my first appointment on Thursday. I don't think they will do any ultra sound though. That is very early to get one, isn't it? When do most people get one?
  • @rydellhigh it is early - I have an amazing doctor who will do one early to ease my anxious mind.
  • These pictures are so encouraging! We have our first US this Wednesday (just a day and a half away) when our LO will be at 7 weeks 1 day. I really hope we get to hear the heart beat but even seeing the flicker will make all the anxiety go away. Praying for all you mamas! So glad we get to be on this journey together!
  • @rydellhigh most won't get one until closer to 10 weeks. Mine is early, as I'm considered high risk. I'm fortunate enough to have a great OB who is very accommodating to my anxiety as well.  :D
  • @rydellhigh it's usually anywhere from 8-12 weeks, depending on the practice, if you don't have a history to take into consideration that would make it earlier.

  • @beccabek92 Our US tech told us it was too early to actually hear the heartbeat but we did get to see baby’s heart moving and she was able to track it for us to get the bpm. :) It is 100% more encourgaging to finally get to see the baby on an ultrasound, although (at least in my case) it’ll be hard not seeing peanut again until we’re 20 weeks!
