With my DS they couldn’t see everything clearly as they needed to so I went for a follow up scan and it was mostly of the chambers of the heart. I’ll be like 21 weeks when I get my AS!
Mine is on Monday just shy of 18 weeks. I wondered if that was too early but they were the ones who picked that date so I figure they know what they are doing?
EDIT: Yup went in and it was too early It is now scheduled on the 28th!
No luck on getting AS early, but it is scheduled for the 18th, three days before I'm 20 wks. I agree, those of you staying team green got my respect. Finding out the sex is the first big thing I have been crazy excited about. So interesting to see the differences in Canada and US "norms" for when to do things, as well as our different physicians. Mine wouldn't even consider doing AS before when we scheduled it, yet some are getting them at 14-16 weeks.
I’m in Canada and I’m getting my a/s on the 12th (scheduled through my OB). I will be 19w1d at that point. With my DD, my GP wouldn’t schedule it until after I was 20 weeks. I think it really depends on the doctor and their preference.
I had my anatomy scan today, and all looks good! I still have to go for a fetal echo because SO was born with a heart defect, but the chances of it showing anything different are slim.
Still team green too, though SO did try to look and see, but he couldn't tell what it was.
I had mine today at 18w4d. Like someone else mentioned, we were able to see everything except they wanted 3 more views of the heart that they couldn't quite see just yet. Next appointment at 22 weeks! Everything looked good. Brain, placenta, heart, no cleft palate, spine, fingers, femur, and feet... the other stuff I don't remember! My photos from the tech were really uneventful though and I was fairly uncomfortable having such a full bladder... Next time should be quite cool though!!
@meadowsbaird good to hear! I can’t belive they made you keep a full bladder the whole time! Mine let me empty after she got a couple of pictures that she needs
I have to go back for a follow-up scan so they can see the heart better as the doctor who reviewed them said the scans made it hard to count all 4 chambers. Is it pretty common to have to go back to see things better? This didn't happen with my first.
@bleucheeznwine my AS isn't scheduled until next Wednesday (19w3d) and the woman who scheduled me already warned me that I may need to make a second appointment if they can't see everything. They wanted to originally scheduled me the week after, but we inconveniently booked flights for our vacation that week. Oops!
God I hope I won't have to go twice. I just got my bill for my NT scan, it's almost $700. Two rounds of AS (which I'm sure one alone is already pricier than the NT scan) would kill me.

I feel so confused about insurance costs in general. When I was pregnant with DS (I had Kaiser Permanente) literally everything was covered. We got our bill after he was born and it was only for the anesthesiologist and our hospital stay - even my OB's time delivering was covered. This time I get a bill for each visit, a GIGANTIC bill for each ultrasound and I still have a "prepay" bill to cover my OB's time. Then I can expect another bill if I have an epidural or any complications.
@BourbonBiscuits insurance is a big cluster fk. When we had DS my husbands insurance was way better...we paid for nothing except hospital bill (still over 2k but). Now I’m paying for almost everything...small amounts but still adds up!
Had my anatomy scan and it went really well overall just one minor thing which of course I’m worried about. Baby has a soft marker for Down’s syndrome that increases risk to 1 in 5500 chance. My blood screen came back normal which it’s supoosedly 99% accurate but of course bc it was even mentioned I feel kinda freaked out.
The dr even said vast majority of babies who have this marker are normal and it’s nothing to worry about but he just wants me to be aware. I know that should be reassuring and it is but I also can’t help feeling anxious!
@allthingsgo 1 in 5500 are really great odds! I wouldn’t worry about that, although I know it’s hard not to. Think of it this way: with no genetic testing whatsoever, apparently a 25 year old woman has a 1 in 1200 chance of having a baby with downs (at least that’s what the internet tells me), so your chances are actually better than the norm!

@allthingsgo that is stressful, but @grebretso is right, gotta put things in perspective. Also just saw your US pic and you're baby is so sweet! What a lovely bday present!
Here’s another one: 1 in 5500 is the same as 0.018%. Your baby has a much higher risk of straight up dying in utero than of being born with downs. And those odds are really low too!
I don’t know why doctors sometimes like to scare us with unnecessary information. I think even mentioning the genetic marker was pointless. Of course as a patient, you’re going to mull over anything your doctor decides to talk about. There are so many things that can happen, and they do happen occasionally, but they’re all highly unlikely!

Had my scan today 19+2. Tech didnt go into details but i have a green baby that was very active and gave them a run for their money, zooming from side to side and suprisingly higher than i thought posssible at this stage.. at points they were scanning my sternum area and just below my ribs. Appaarently babies head was that high. Wtf super baby! Took them 1.5 hours to get everything instead of typical 1 hour.
Result wise i have mw appt on the 19th but for now i know baby has a head two feet and 10 toes, two hands and at least one with 5 fingers... lol
@allthingsgo, i dont know why they tell us things that are just going to freak us out.
My mw said dont be surprised if there are soft markers of head cysts theyre common and resolve usually before birth.. like wtf, what do you know that i dont that youre bringing that up?
So frustrating. But the stats @grebretso mentioned sound really promising!
@cass06_07 yeah, why would she say that to you?? I know they probably think they are being helpful but I’m not so sure they understand the unnecessary worry they can create!
Ugh @grebretso I'm sorry. I cringe for you every time I see your prices AFTER insurance I feel like health insurance in general just keeps getting more and more expensive over time (along with everything else), blah blah cost of living keeps rising way faster than wages and millennials are screwed over.
I have a small worry about having to go twice since I'm scheduled for mine at 18+6, but by my dating US I'd be 19+4, so I think I'm ok. Does having a level II decrease the risk of having to go twice? Probably not. But there's no way I could schedule it the next week for when both DH and I would be free (our schedules suck), so I took it.
Thanks @notthecheat. I have really shitty insurance, and when I get these bills I’m like... What am I paying for every month again? The insurance usually covers a tiny bit of the cost, but it’s so little it doesn’t even matter. Like, last US they covered $100 which is what my premium is anyway so it just cancelled itself out. It’s not like it matters that I’m working up towards my deductible either, because it’ll just reset to $0 on NYE. My deductible is $3250 so eve with these insane bills, it’ll be a while until I get there!
Hoping as many of us as possible will only need one AS!

Had our scan today at 18w exactly and everything looked good! She was super busy in there squirming around, but luckily she gave us enough poses to get all the photos they needed. We saw her do a somersault, which was cool My mom was in there with me and she was like, "Well, looks like you're going to have a highly active child...PAYBACK!!" Sigh. Sorry mom.
While 2nd scans aren’t UNcommon, they’re not a regular occurrence either. It’s usually to get better heart views if anything. With my first two, we got everything we needed the first go around though. I don’t have this one until the end of the month at 21+1 which is the latest I’ve ever had an AS.
As far as DS is concerned, if it was a possibility, the good thing is that it’s certainly not a matter of life and death for the part of the child as the other trisomies are. I have a few “homies with extra chromies” who are pretty dang phenomenal.
Results are in. Baby looks great, measuring 19w and im 19w+2.
Placenta however, placenta previa and im on pelvic rest now. Also showed a maternal vessel on my cervix, mw needs to consult with high risk unit at local hospital for next steps. There will be follow up u/s. Fx it moves as i was really hoping to avoid a csection, sighhhh. Glad baby is all good though!

i agree @grebretso. This shit is expensive. I feel like we shouldn't have to pay again if it's their fault they didn't do a good enough job.
