@SweetSweetTooth It’s common but I don’t see why it would be required. If you look good and feel comfortable, wear whatever you like. I’d personally wear a dress over anything else every day if possible, that’s why I wore one.

@sweetsweettooth the last one I hosted in April, everyone else (including the Mom-to-be) wore pants and I was the only one in a dress. Find something you feel beautiful and comfortable in and rock it!

@alexa_94 I like the bottom one, but honestly I think the dress is really cute with just a nice necklace or something. But whatever you feel most comfortable in is the way to go!

@SweetSweetTooth I say do whatever you’re most comfortable in. I wore a dress to my first shower last weekend and I’m glad I did because it was so hot inside and outside! But not everyone wore dresses. I think a cute top and some nice pants or even cute capris or something would be really cute too.

@SweetSweetTooth I am choosing a dress because it’s what I’m going to be comfortable with. Plus it’s going to be so hot, I’m having an early baby shower since I live out of state. Mine will be at the end of the month when I visit family and I’m due October 16th. I still wanted to be dressy but didn’t want to wear shorts with a dressy top.
This is my 2nd but my husband’s first so his mom is throwing a baby shower. With my first I wore leggings with a blouse.

@SweetSweetTooth - I’m planning to dress up a notch over what I normally wear since it is basically a party in my honor- other people are doing something nice for me, so it seems appropriate to put a little more effort in for them. That said- I may shave my legs and put on a dress, but you won’t find me pulling out my makeup box.

This shit just got real. I just got a FedEx notice that I have a delivery coming from Buy Buy Baby. Someone has bought stuff off my registry.

My Mom wants to know who would spend $119 on me; I’d be offended if I wasn’t aware that some of my coworkers have more money than places to spend it.

Thanks ladies! I am totally the type that will wear what I am comfortable in, just was curious how 'out of the ordinary' jeans, pants, capris ... Non dresses were. I wish my thighs didn't rub together or I would be wearing dresses this pregnancy! I have worn a few at home but the rubbing... Ugh!

@SweetSweetTooth - I always wear shorts under my dresses. I ordered some of these once my bump got too big for my pre-pregnancy shorts. I’m pretty happy with them, although the waist band occasionally rolls down when I sit down.

@SweetSweetTooth I have the same issue and have always wore bike shorts under my dresses. I figured they would be too tight once my bump came so I got these maternity shorts that are super light and stretchy. I love them. They are soft and you barely even notice they are there. They have an extension band that you can tighten to your size.

I do the same. I bought “belly shapewear” shorts at Motherhood Maternity - they are light shorts with a super stretchy part to go over the belly and they stop my thighs from chafing.

Also, monistat makes a chafing gel that I swear by! I’ve been using it for years. Great for when it’s too hot for the shorts. I put a quarter size amount on my thighs and it creates a silky smooth barrier for a few hours. I reapply as necessary. Even my husband uses it now before he goes running! We love it way more than Body Glide.

My mom wants to throw me a shower so badly. She thinks I should have one one since we got rid of all of our gear when we were told that we couldn’t make babies. She is having a hard time with me saying no. The thing is we’re fairy well off and really can afford all of this stuff ourselves. I get that she’s trying to help, and excited, but it’s making me feel bed to tell her no but I’d feel worse to say yes. This is giving me stress I don’t need right now.

@sparklingwhit what about a sprinkle and don't make a registry? That way she throws you a party, you aren't asking for anything and people wont feel like they should buy you something. Just a small celebration

I purposely picked a day for my shower that we had SS. I figured even if he decided he didn't want to go, he'd be excited about all the gifts and would get to see family that day.

Well, his mom had to cancel their camping trip for this upcoming week (her bf's vacation got cancelled due to a guy at work quitting). We agreed to work with her on a different date. She of course came back today with wanting the weekend of my shower and a few days after.

I don't want to say no just because of the shower since it's not super important he be there. It just really sucks.

I know my little sister and cousin will be, both girls. And most likely my niece.

Part of me feels like being a little passive agressive and making sure she knows that we wanted that day because of my shower but are willing to let him go since he'll have more fun there.

Tell her you did have plans and was hoping for him to see everyone but if that's the only weekend she thinks will work you wont fight her on it. I don't blame you for wanting him but he might get bored quickly once he realizes those presents aren't really for him but the new baby.

@sparklingwhit - My Mom really wants to throw me a shower (read: party) in order to include family that lives near her (6hrs from me). We decided to do a sip-n-see over the Christmas holidays; we also agreed that the invite would make it clear that this was about celebrating a new baby in the family and no gifts were expected.

I’ve decided to embrace the shower that my friend is throwing me and not worry about what anyone thinks. Tonight we found this theme on Pinterest and I think it’s so freaking cute! I really wanted a theme to do with twins without using the typical “two peas in a pod” or “thing 1 and thing 2” so this fits perfectly. She’s planning to do a nacho bar too which I adore because queso, I’m so excited to see how it all turns out!

@sammierose464 I say, if having SS there with you is important to you, then don’t give in, and ask if there are any other weekends that would work because you already have plans that weekend. Have you asked SS if he wants to attend the shower? I feel like at 6 (maybe I’m wrong) but he might have an opinion about it. He might really want to celebrate his new baby brother at the party. Maybe ask him if you think he is able to make the decision.

He goes back and forth on if he wants to go. I told his mom last night that it was our shower, but that he'd probably have more fun on their trip. He enjoys going (they are seeing his mom's bf's family) and there are 3 little boys he'll get to see. I'm just hoping she will recognize our flexibility and return the favor.

But germs - there is a vast difference between 10-15 close friends and family and hundreds of random strangers.

Question as well! What's a common amount of games to have at a shower?? I'm making lists with my mom because I weasled my way into helping but I dont want to go overboard with games and stuff that takes the focus off me (I'm going to be a total queen that day just an fyi lol)

@mamabearcj I dont know if you will get an answer to that very easily. Some people (like myself) hate games with a firey passion and plan to have none, some people play multiple and thats the whole party. You should do what you want and not worry about normal for a babyshower.

@mamabearcj We did one game at DD’s shower. BINGO during present opening and we gave out three prizes. We also had a “wishes for Bean” card that listed things like “I hope you learn...” or “I hope you grow...” that people could fill out. I’m not typically a fan of games where it makes people uncomfortable like the changing a diaper blindfolded.

All the ones I’ve been to have 3-4 games. I am letting my mom and MIL live out their fantasies of a classic, all-ladies, girlie, super pink shower so I’m sure we’ll play a bunch. I’ve just asked that we don’t do the one where you melt the chocolate in the diaper and smell it to guess what it is (gross) and don’t do “guess how big Mom is” via string or toilet paper. I went to a baby shower where that last one was played and I just think it’s rude and mean (when there are so many better options) so I declined to participate and I’m glad I did because by the third guess, the mom-to-be was in tears.

@sliztee high five! The games we are playing are gonna be 'get in the pool because its hot' and 'eat the BBQ'. Maybe a round or two of 'are there more cookies???'
