On TTGP someone revived a 3 year old thread about cryptic pregnancies. https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12561717/cryptic-stealth-pregnancy/p2 It got sorta hilarious back in the day, but I was reading on the cryptic pregnancies site and talk about WEIRD! I've never heard of being pregnant for 3-5 years before...
To be fair, I’ve read several stories from women whose HCG levels didn’t rise as quickly as normal so their HPTs didn’t turn positive until several weeks into the pregnancy. But I think those are the 1/450 who wouldn’t have found out they were pregnant until 20wks, not people denying every iota of evidence that they aren’t pregnant.
That website is a basket of crazy. @knottieamusements, my hcg levels were extremely low (my first beta at 8dp5dt was 5, and the 2nd 2 days later was 9) and I was not turning home tests, so I know what you mean.
However, the TLDR of that "cryptic pregnancy support group" website is that you can be pregnant for years and can have extended months long labors and therefore should ignore the doctors because obviously you are right and they are wrong and you just have a very slow growing baby who needs 3-5 years in utero. Weird that medicine hasn't recognized this as an actual possibility yet.
@chopchop25 just catching up on things, but i work weekends at Starbucks and we are starting to get our fall stuff in for partner (employee) sampling and prep. It is just around the corner!
Finally caught up on this thread, I've been behind all week! The app and the web browser version were wonky for me the last couple days. I logged into 115 undead comments on this thread and I had apparently started to respond because I had a draft from the very beginning of this thread. *facepalm*
@kiwi2628 sorry things were so crazy for you! I hope the weekend was better for you.
@knottieamusements your bathroom remodel came@mytrueloves eat! I love the sink and it's so much more functional now!
@mytrueloves glad you and baby are doing well and it was nothing to worry about.
@cdepperschmidt it sucks that you and your H ware/are I. That position but it sounds like you handled it well. I hope your cousin gets the help he needs and they can move on from this.
@chopchop25 idk if I missed it or not but I hope your house/pet sitter worked out for you!
It just got more and more mind-boggling. Low levels of Hcg that wouldn't turn a test till much later than expected, sounds possible, but then it just keeps going! Pregnant for 3-5 years and MONTHS long labor, and to be prepared to deliver at home, since doctors keep saying things like they're not pregnant... I think I'd check out once I heard the months long labor, just, no thanks!
So no drinking for 3-5 possibly 7 years?! And a cryptic pregnancy can suddenly turn normal? How do you know if your having a cryptic pregnancy if every possible way to tell comes up negative? I just don't understand
About to lose my shit. Why has everything suddenly become intolerably annoying?! I’m turning into my mom! I can’t stand the raspy snot nosed breathing and loud sighs of the guy sitting here in the jiffy lube waiting area with me. Yesterday it was DH having the volume on the tv as loud as the music he was playing. Just stupid irrational stuff. I try to keep my mouth shut, ignore things and get over it but omg it’s hard. I never used to be like this!!! I need to start carrying a stress ball so I have something besides my phone to squeeze because I’m going to end up crushing it.
Should we do a Postpartum Preparation Thread now! We are approaching the third tri. I saw someone posted a suggestion FTM advice, but that seems thread worthy.
@jynjer91 Samesies, the woman who sits next to me at work makes disgusting sucking/smacking sounds with 95% of what she eats. Today I had to get up and walk away. I don't even know how or why she makes these sounds. Its completely unnecessary. I've randomly been annoyed by it before but the last week or so it's next level annoyance. I'm also annoyed by pretty much anyone coming to my desk to talk to me. Leave. Me. Alone.
I am easily annoyed too. I've been trying to get SS to chew with his mouth closed, it's not going so well.
This vacation is my favorite trip of the year. I've been doing it for 6 years now. I do something a little different each time, but it always includes a stay at my best friend's place. They're like second family to me.
DH is in such a funk. I'm trying so hard to push through my pain, discomfort, short temper, and lack of good sleep. DH last night (only our 2nd day) asked if we should just go home. I feel defeated. I'm enjoying our trip, despite everything else. He says I'm too short tempered with SS. I got yelled at for saying "go ahead" when SS was holding the door open at Subway today (I couldn't get through with him there). But yet DH can get upset all he wants. I've decided I'm not parenting the rest of this week since DH feels I'm too harsh. And I'm done making decisions because I can't make any that make DH happy it feels like.
Sorry to hear that, @sammierose464. That sounds incredibly frustrating. I feel for you and the other step momma's on here; I can't imagine what it must be like.
@jynjer91, I am right there with you. I'm so annoyed by every little thing lately that i feel like a complete bitch. I was reading an article about labor this weekend and one of the early labor signs they identified was irritability... welp, guess that one kicks in REALLY early. Lol.
This is going to sounds really freaking weird, but...
I kind of get some of the comments about gender disappointment now - not so much the extreme, temper tantrum, “but I wanted XXX!!” version, but the “I genuinely thought I was having YYY” version.
At the ultrasound yesterday, the tech commented that Blast appears to be left handed because the whole time xe was using xer left hand to play with xer face. It never even occurred to me that my baby would have a different dominant hand than me. I’m not upset, but it somehow shifted my thoughts about baby in ways that I wasn’t even aware that I had thoughts.
I’m I going to be raising a little artist rather than a scientist?
Where do I find left handed scissors?
How many arguments am I going to have with teachers about the fact that Baby uses the “wrong” hand, or writes in notebooks from back to front? (One of my left-handed coworkers does this, and it is pretty genius- while also pointing out how right-hand biased the world is.)
I honestly wonder how many other assumptions I have about Blast that I haven’t taken a serious look it.
@knottieamusements that’s interesting, I’m trying to remember now which hand my LO was sucking on at my ultrasound. I wonder if the techs would commonly point out that it’s he left hand, or not really notice since it isn’t a medical finding. Also curious how often hand choice is the womb correlates to hand dominance later on. It definitely seems like it would be a good indicator. I wish I paid attention. Would be interesting to make note of. Now I have to dig through my ultrasound pics to see if I can even tell. I can barely tell I’m from down in the pics so probably can’t tell left from right in the pics.
I forget, is hand dominance a genetic trait? Do you have any left handed people in your family?
I'm the only left handed one in my family of 6 siblings. I also am the most creative. I adapted to all the normal right handed things like computer mouse, scissors and binders. Really the only thing I do is write with my left hand. I think it is cool your tech noticed that and pointed it out. I see where your are coming from in the sense of wondering how the baby can be left handed and how you will manage that, but honestly it isn't that much different and these day way more accepted and common! Just think of it as something you already know about your Blast!

@knottieamusements I wouldn’t put too much stock in the fact that your Baby is a lefty at this point. DS is 2.5 and still goes back and forth between both hands.
@rabtaido1214 - You’ll be able to tell right from left. In that sense, the ultrasound pictures are just like regular photographs. There are several lefties on my Mom’s side of the family. No idea on the donor’s family.
@cdepperschmidt - Yeah, handedness is definitely a thing that is more pronounced in some people than others. I actually use both hands, and my eyes are cross dominant. (For the gun owners out there- I always knew this instinctively, but I didn’t realize it was an actual thing until a firearms instructor pointed it out- shooting left handed still feels awkward, but it genuinely made a difference.)

ETA: It’s called Pseudocyesis. I think I saw it on SVU once.

@cdepperschmidt I think that's a great idea, too.
