My mom has been texting me random names for this Baby if it’s a girl. They are all really funny to me and I’d only consider about three out of the fifty or so she has sent. Last nights were so ridiculous. One of them was Melanie Ok not bad, but then my mom goes “you can call her Melly!” What? I laughed so hard...I’m not even sure why. Moms man. Can’t make this stuff up!
There is a character in Gone With the Wind named Melanie who goes by Melly. Maybe mom is a fan? (she is really nice but kind of what my grandma called "milk toast" compared to Scarlett).
Am I right in thinking the drive-by lurker is someone who doesn't even belong to this board?

I think the only reason I'm on here so much is because I spend A LOT of my work day with IT either in person or on the phone. So lots of time to dick around on my cell while they fix my computer. You'd think after a month of the same issue it would be resolved...but no, so more bumping for me!
@jemmerjams Your IT people are about as efficient as ours. I'm constantly on the phone with them for issues that should've already been resolved at least a dozen times over.
+1 for weird ads. This app is crappy on it’s best days though. How can we expect them to have decent tracking software? That’s asking wayyyy too much!
True. And I mean, the targeted ads always creep me out anyway, so the randomness is kinda nice I guess?
I haven’t seen any alcohol ones but that’s hilarious. You’d think they wouldn’t even sell advertising to those companies. I mean, pregnancy, man. Know your audience.
The HitchSwitch ads actually make a modicum of sense to me. I know of several women who didn’t change their name when they got married, but decided to once they got pregnant.
I'm a sucker for Gone With The Wind and loved Melly, but I don't care for the name personally. Sounds weird to me. Lol
Same.
We named my daughter Scarlett (totally after GWTW) and not my husband keeps suggesting Clark (as in... Clark Gable) and my mom heard it and now keeps suggesting Rhett (as in... Rhett Butler).
Guys, I love the movie and I love the name Scarlett but come on. I'm not going to be *that* person.

@lest12 We stole several name ideas from TV shows, but I'd probably only use multiple characters from a single movie on pets. My cousin used to name all her cats after Disney characters, so that's what I think of when I hear people named their kids Luke and Leia or Scarlett and Rhett or something like that.
FFWC..? I wanted to wear a dress to work today but was too lazy to shave my legs last night, so I totally “dry shaved” a bit this morning, and then just slapped some moisturizer on my legs after to try to make it better. I know it’s not good for my legs, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Catching up on the name thing... I don't like you-nique names, but in my humble opinion, Jaxson isn't one, anymore that is. I've seen it everywhere, and it's not unusual anymore. And talk about harsh! Saying you hope they don't have a boy for their child's sake is unnecessarily rude. It's not my kid, so not my problem... I'd voice my opinion and drop it, since it doesn't affect me at all. Now if you wanna talk you-neek names, I saw a 'Frankie' for a girl spelled something like: Phranquie... Now that, I'd judge you real hard!
I agree that Jaxson isn't really a 'younique' spelling and I wouldn't think twice about it especially since you plan on calling him Jax. DD1 had 3 in her class this year, a Jackson, Jaxson, and a Jaxxynn. There might have been a line that was crossed with the 3rd spelling. And Phranquie?!

Just got this swing used and in awesome condition for $10! Con - it is battery operated and doesn't vibrate. I figure $10 is worth the chance as not all kids like swings. Edit as the bump ate the picture! Sorry if huge.
@SweetSweetTooth We actually have the exact same swing! It works really well, but once the baby gets bigger it really starts burning through those batteries. The plus side is when the batteries start to die you get to listen to the music get creepier and creepier.
I'm getting ads for AARP. Like, that's not even close to being beneficial.
Also, our name of Emilia is def from Emilia Clarke and GOT. We have just always thought it was pretty. It's not necessarily FOR her, but love her and love GOT anyway.
Haha @hannaht8516 that reminds me: last pregnancy, DH and I were going through names from TV shows, and we got to GOT, but we went through the character names and were having a good laugh... until we got to Stannis. We both looked at each other and were like “that’s not terrible...” The name didn’t end up making our short list, but I still kinda don’t hate it
@hannah8516 I sat next to a wicked chatty woman in the OB waiting room when I was pregnant with DD2 who, hand to God, had two daughters named Danaerys and Khaleesi. And a son named something normal like Daniel or Michael or something, I forget. Strangest sibset I’ve ever heard of.
Ah-lay-nal-lee... It's my neice, who's about 3 I think. Her mom (was married to my brother, but not anymore) is/was a crazy person, so not a big shocker really. When she announced what they were gonna name their baby, she said everyone asked how to say it or spell it... I thought, well, there's your sign it's a bad idea. They call her Alli anymore tho. @jynjer91
So, I had a really strange discussion last night. One of my friends who I only talk to a half dozen times a year called to talk baby stuff. (She tried to tell me that she found out about my pregnancy from a third party, but I know for a fact that was not true.)
However, she then tried talking to me about all the usual baby stuff (specifically sex & names). I told her I’m not finding out the sex and I’m not talking names with anyone. And she was like “well, umm...”. I told her that yes, it is kind of awkward when someone only wants to know those two things, but I’m not letting that be open for discussion. But there is a whole world of other baby stuff we can discuss! Like nursery themes, and my support people, and finding a doula!
So we talked about that stuff for a bit, but I could tell that she really wanted to talk about the other stuff (and try to make me feel bad for not catering to what she wants). Sorry, not sorry. My Mom hasn’t even convinced me to bring her into the loop; I’m certainly not bringing in someone who isn’t anywhere as close to me as my Mom, and has a history of being emotionally manipulative.
PS - this came to mind because of the Emilia comment- She told me that would be a lovely name for a girl. I agree. Just not my kid.
@knottieamusements After my sister accidentally found out what we're naming this one and tore us a new one with how much she hates it, DF and I decided we're not announcing the name until the birth certificate is already signed and they can't try to convince us to change it. Anyone who asks what the name is will hear a totally different name than the one we picked. Just for laughs, the made-up name we picked is one we're certain everyone in our families will hate.

@mytrueloves I don't get that. Unless you are naming your child something truly awful 'Hellchild PentuniaBlossum' or something akin to that, why do people think their input is wanted or needed, especially if its negative. Its ridiculous.
@knottieamusements I just don't understand why everyone thinks they are entitled to know the name or have any say on what name is picked. We won't share the name this time (if we ever choose one) mostly because last time DH's family all wanted to have a say in what we chose. MIL didn't like the boy name we had picked out for DD because her friend's ex-boyfriend's daughter had a son with that name. Yes, you read that right.
I feel incredibly fortunate that all the people we've told have been totally supportive and even go as far to say that they love what we chose.
Otherwise, I'd probably be in the same boat as @mytrueloves.
Still being unnecessarily petty about sharing it on our forum, for some reason. Jeff did the probability math (nerd) and estimated there's around a 15% chance one of you will have the same name picked out. Hard to know for sure because I'm not exactly certain how many of you are on here haha
@kiwi2628 She tried really hard in the moment to convince us not to use it. Then called me later to beg me to change it and when I told her we were firm, she said "I'm going to call DF right now and convince him to veto your choice!" and hung up. It's a really old fashioned name, but it's not made up or anything so I don't understand the hatred for it. Lil' monster's name is going to be Florence.

My coworker did this. That's how I found out she was pregnant! (Because my observant eye somehow missed her pretty decent sized bump!) She and I were talking about name changing (shortly after my wedding) and she was telling me how now with the baby coming she was changing her name.
