Re: Question Thread

  • Thank you @CecilB93 I'm only allowed to have purely peppermint tea. This is an FET baby so everything is pretty strict for me. Otherwise those teas would definitely help me! I think I will try ocean wave sounds!

  • @mamajudec2018 I'd die if I couldn't drink tea. Not that I drink it often, but some days I just neeeeed it. But I know some people are kind of iffy about herbal teas during pregnancy anyways since there's not a ton of research on them, but I drank it with my DS and had no issues! I hope the sounds help! I know my mom sleeps with a sound app on, DH and I prefer to just have a fan for noise.

@mamajudec2018 Do you sleep with a sleep mask? I started doing that along with a white noise machine and it really helped. I've also heard no screens an hour before bed (she said, as she typed on a screen 5 min before bed, haha.) Good luck! Insomnia sucks!
  • @runrinserepeat Happy your boob is feeling better!

@mamajudec2018 I second the white noise notion. Usually I fall asleep listening to nutrition audiobooks (they give me something to focus on and once I’m out of my head -boom- sleep). BUT! When I can’t crash to a book, I use an ambient noise app. Current favorite is occilating brown noise, I think it sounds like slowly lapping ocean waves. Zzz.

  • @mamajudec2018 I've been having trouble sleeping too.  I find if I stop drinking liquids at like 7pm, use a sleep mask and ear plugs, and sleep on the couch rather than in bed with my husband and dogs, I sleep a bit better.  I also now leave a snack next to me so I have something if I wake up feeling queasy.  Last night I slept almost 7 hours in a row which is a record for me since I got pregnant.

  • @mamajudec2018 diaphragmatic (belly) breathing can help your body relax and help with sleep. Also if you google “Dartmouth relaxation” you’ll find some good resources.

I use the diaphragmatic breathing alll the time. I’m having some insome with my hyperthyroid issue, and it helps.
  • Dumb question, but what sorts of questions do you guys ask at your appointments? The doc kept asking if I had any but I didn’t really. This isn’t my first rodeo. I did manage to come up with how long they would let me go overdue. *shrug*

  • @PensiveCrayon I asked about my diet, how much protein I needed, whether I should stop taking the extra vitamin D I've self-prescribed, why I was getting the DNA part of the pap smear this time, instead of having it only reflex if ascus. I told her my biggest concerns were gaining too much to get her take on that (she was appalled when I told her I'd gained 55lbs with both and had to go back and look it up LOL). So, mostly nutrition-based at this point, since I clearly neglected that last time...

Didn't really ask anything, @PensiveCrayon. Like you said... been there, done that, my OB covered the only stuff that's different this time (namely, the whole VBAC thing). It's not a job interview. Nobody's gonna ding me for not coming prepared with insightful questions, so meh.

I never have questions at job interviews  :# I hate being asked if I have questions lol.

Re: appointment questions, I asked at what point they'd induce me. Granted, different situation at the moment (and I pray that nobody else ends up with GD!!) so it's a legit concern. I know some people ask about c-section rates, but if you're in a hospital and just get whichever doctor is on call, I feel like that's moot point.

  • @CecilB93 I use a fan too but maybe changing up the sound will help... Who knows!

@maureenmce I agree that having my phone next to me may actually be an issue. I took a nap yesterday and left my phone in a different room and I actually napped for an hour.

@echo-charlietango Yea I need white noise too. I use a fan now but I think I'll try ocean sounds.

@kadeephd Stopping liquids early is a good idea! I'll try that. 7 hours is amazing! I can get about 3 1/2 in a row as of now.

@Katzalia I will look into belly breathing. Thank you!
  • @pensivecrayon I’m asking about the caffeine recommendation, miscarriage rates, and about the safety of some products I like to use. The rest of my questions are related to my previous experience with polyhydramnios and the possibility of recurrence and a possible VBAC.
  • @PensiveCrayon
I haven't had my 1st appt yet, but I plan on asking/ brining up  two things:
1.my concern for the reoccurrence of the disease I think I had last pg. I can't think of the name of it, but when you become SUPER itchy because you're gallbladder is not functioning properly. I'm pretty sure I had this and later found out I have a polyp on my gallbladder.
    2. I have a loose muscle in my stomach. Sometimes when I roll over from my left side to my back you can feel it  move and not just on the inside. DH has felt it too. It feels like baby is changing positions.
But because these questions only pertain to me, the fact that's YOU didn't have any questions is probably a good thing.
  • @gorgeousariel Yes! I’ve heard of thAt! PUPPS or something right? Hopefully you’re not automatically doomed to suffer it again. (Also I feel like @sheshae also had it...?)

I'm going to ask about all the meds I've been on with the flu the week before I found out, and then what I can take for whatever is going on with my throat now.  I know that I can take dextromethorphan and guaifenesin, which I'm doing, but I always want to know why I can't take other things.  Like, don't just tell me it's forbidden, tell me why.
Also I want to know how early their December/Jan schedule comes out because I'd like my induction on the books ASAP so I have something to look forward to.  After last time, I know better than to look forward to my due date lol.
  • Another question idea- whatever your beauty routine stuff is. I regularly dye my hair dark blue at home (just over my natural brown hair). I don’t want to do that anymore because it gets all over my scalp when I do it by myself. I’ll ask about going into a salon and having it done. I doubt a salon will be willing to do anything without bleaching my hair first. So I’m thinking about some type of ombré design- so I can keep my roots dark and do a brighter blue on the ends. If that’s not too expensive it maintain.
  •  hey mommas! Has anyone had any experience with a subchorionic hemorrhage? I am about 6 wks today, went in for an ultrasound yesterday and they found a small hemorrhage, said it was likely not a big deal but to expect mild spotting. This morning I had pretty bad cramping and moderate bleeding and passed a clump of tissue. My Dr said it's nothing to worry about unless it gets worse, just told me to leave work and rest. Bleeding has slowed, but still cramping petty badly. Any experience or advice would be helpful!

Yes! But idk if it had anything to do with my gallbladder. The DR explained that it was common with moms having their first child, and more common with those carrying boys. I broke out in a complete rash on my arms, legs, and all over my stomach. It was horrible but the nice thing was that it went away within hours after giving birth.

I think @gorgeousariel maybe talking about Cholestasis?

  • @sheshae yes that's it! So I guess it's not the gallbladder but your liver. During the same scan they found cysts on my liver so whichever organ it is, I have an issue. Lol
  • I'm nervous about gaining the right amount of weight.  I know that if you have a "healthy" bmi before becoming pregnant you are supposed to gain 25-35 pounds: 1-5 pounds in the first trimester and a pound per week after that.  How do you get that to happen?  Do you count calories?  Just keep weighing yourself to make sure you are on track?  I feel like I am trying to eat more than normal and I have not gained weight, which is fine for the first trimester. It's also likely because I don't feel great and don't actually want to eat a lot of the time.  I'm getting a little worried about the pound per week though.  A bunch of it has got to just be fluid though, right?

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd
Oh gosh, yes it's a lot of fluid. You shouldn't aim to gain 25lb of fat. Your blood volume increases, there is a lot of fluid around the baby, plus the baby itself is included in that weight guideline. So I think regular weigh-ins are the best way to track and your doctor will tell you if you are doing it correctly..

  • I gained exactly 30 lbs in pregnancy last time. I lost 5 lbs the first trimester. My OB was totally unconcerned about early weight loss.
  • @Katzalia So in your experience did it just happen naturally or did you have to make an effort to gain the correct amount?

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @ab_canada That's what I thought... feels silly to even ask about this but I am honestly nervous about it.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd I didn’t have to try to gain weight. After 18 weeks, my nausea really eased up and I got more of an appetite. But mostly, as baby gets bigger you gain weight, also from the increased blood volume, etc.
  • My QOTD: Anyone else with uterine fibroids?  I just found out I have two small ones; one of which is submucosal and near the gest sac.  I shouldn't be worried because my RE isn't concerned, but can't help it, especially considering one is so close to the sac.  They've grown slightly since my pre-pregnancy scan (to assess response to Clomid) but are still considered small.  Not near my cervix, so not blocking the birth canal.

    We're having another GIRL!!  <3

  • @kadeephd I lost 10 pounds in first tri last time and my doctor wasn’t concerned. It was probably from feeling sick and not eating as much, and let’s be honest, no beer calories. I did gain an appropriate amount after that and all was well. I wouldn’t worry too much. Once baby is growing your appetite will naturally increase to make up for “eating for two.” I think I read that at the peak you’re only supposed to increase by 300 calories a day in second and third tri. So basically  just listen to your body, don’t go completely nuts (ha) and listen to your doctor’s advice. They’ll weigh you every appointment and let you know if there’s an issue.

  • @kadeephd I gained 45 lbs last pregnancy, and I'd say 10-15 lbs of that was unnecessary.  I stuffed my face, and ate what I wanted, when I wanted.  I had no problem with weight gain  :D that being said, my dr was unconcerned that I was "above" the recommended amount of weight gain.

Just try to eat a balanced diet.  Your doctor will let you know if they are concerned about anything down the road.  They don't expect us to gain anything in the first trimester. If you do feel anxious about it, you can always bring it up to your dr and get a recommendation for a nutritionist, or something like that.
Some women also struggle to eat full meals in the last trimester because their stomachs are squished, so they have to eat a lot of small meals again.
  • This might be a stupid question, or maybe I just can't find it, but do we have a thread where we can share our pregnancy announcements once we make them? I'd love to see what other people are coming up with!
  • @scaredunprepared go to the second page and there was one called “announcement  ideas”. It’s full of some ideas, and some announcements people have used already. It kind of died, idk if we should make a new one of announcements we’ve decided to use, or keep the idea one running. What do others think?

  • My first doctor appointment is on Monday but there won't be an ultrasound. They will just have me pee in a cup and give me a welcome packet. I'll be one day shy of 10 weeks by my first day of last menstrual date calculation. I hate that they are making me wait foreverrrrrr. Am I the only one that keeps thinking that my body is playing a trick on me or something was wrong with all of the tests I've taken? I've wanted this baby for so long but I'm so scared that I'll just have a rare medical condition that gives positive pregnancy tests and symptoms but no baby
  • @Selina1313 You’re definitely not alone there. I was convinced of the same before I actually got to see my wee gummi bear on the ultrasound this past Monday. Sorry you’re having to wait extra long for a peek. :( Do you know when they’ll do an ultrasound or at least try to find the heartbeat?

  • @PensiveCrayon I'm not sure. They said once I have this appointment then they will schedule an ultrasound. I just wish they did it on the first visit or got me in sooner. I need to see this little nugget to know that it's real. It would be nice if they at least tried to find the heartbeat but I doubt it.
  • Any other STM+ have their toddler jump on their belly? I’m currently 9 weeks, I was laying on the couch and my 3 year old (28lb) son comes and jumps right on my lower abdomen, right in the area where this baby is. I THINK it’s ok because I know baby is well protected, but he landed on me pretty hard and it definitely hurt. First time I’ve been pregnant that I’ve had a toddler who jumps on me like this, and while I’m trying to avoid him jumping on me... sometimes it’s a surprise attack. Any other mommas kiddos do this? Everything still ok with baby?

  • @PensiveCrayon Well at least I’m not alone! I mean... I imagine pretty much all mommas prego with babies #2 plus have probably all experienced this at some point. So I *think* it should be ok... but I’m new to being pregnant with a toddler, so I figured I’d ask. I tried to call my doctor’s office for some reassurance but they are out until Tuesday for the holiday weekend... I guess they take mother’s day pretty seriously.

  • @Selina1313 It is definitely stressful. I'm going through the same thing. My first apt was 10 weeks. We went over my blood work. She tried to find HB but couldn't because it was too early and she measured my uterus and told me I was measuring ahead at 11 weeks.
That said - I have no ultrasound until 20 weeks and now I need to wait another 4 weeks to hear the heartbeat. It's super frustrating to me as I just want some reassurance that this little nugget is growing away. I'm trying to relax since my doctor wasn't worried.
So I have no real advise just sympathy!
