Now that we know we're having a boy, the name game just got real! We had discussed names and agreed we both loved the name Leo James. Leo was DH grandfather, James was mine. I think it sounds good with our last name and DS's name, too. We agreed on DS name pretty early on, but didn't get anything monogrammed and we didn't tell anyone because there was always this part of me like "what if he doesn't look like the name we picked?!". I feel like we will be the same one this time around. I browsed SO many boy name lists today and there are plenty I like, just none I like as much as the above. So we'll see if we change our minds the next 25 weeks
I'm having a hard time with the spelling of our middle name choice for a girl. We want it to be Leigh because we have so many family members with the same middle name (both males and females). My great grandmother passed away in December and her name was Birdie Lee. So I've been going back and forth between Leigh and Lee, what do y'all think?
Can you use Birdie instead ? That's so unique - was that her actual name or a nickname? Otherwise I like Leigh better but would probably use Lee since it's more exact and I am a rule follower hahah
@lolog531 DH and I couldn't agree on a boy name, but we hadn't discussed any girl names until finding out yesterday we're having a girl. And then we both agreed on a first and middle name really quickly. There are still names I like, and I could totally change my mind, but for now we both like Sofia Lee. He wants it spelled with an f since that's the Italian way and our last name is super Italian.
@Ashleyandjody I like both Leigh and Lee. My MN is Lee, along with my mom and all her sisters. I think we're going with the Lee spelling since it's how mine is, but you can't go wrong either way.
Our girl names are either Tinley or Sloane, middle name Jean for my grandmother in law that I'm really close with. Sloane Jean doesn't roll off of the tongue as well but it's my favorite name DH won't agree on a boy name. We both think Abram is "ok" but I LOVE Jude and have been fighting for it. Also we were going to use fil's name as a middle name for baby if it's a boy and we told him and he exclaimed how he hates his name... so now I don't know what to do! Do we still honor him? It's Paul and his middle name is Kevin. I hate Kevin. So opinions on if you could live with Sloane Jean, and if you'd still use fil's name as a mn for a boy or what you'd do...
@meeks2020 I dont mind Sloane Jean because honestly, how many times in life is someone going to be referenced by their full name? Not often. If you really love Sloane for a first name and want to honor Jean, then I would go for it. My first name and middle names are all a mouthful combined but realistically, they're all never said together.

I think I would go with Lee to honor Grandma, but since they're pronounced the same way if you say it in conversation it will sound just like the rest of the family members

Love your girls names - I think Sloane Jean is lovely and really, the only time you're going to use the first and middle together and in rapid succession is when you're yelling at the kiddo to stop climbing the bookshelves or something like that I middle name DS and DSS all the time when I mean business!
Is there a way you can honor FIL without using his name? Does he have a favorite author or a city that he has a lot of fond memories? We're going to honor my mom with the middle name for this one and we've kicked around her favorite author, Harry Potter character, favorite camp site, etc
@mrsbubbles-2 good idea about honoring him in a different way. I will keep thinking on it with ideas like you suggested. I may end up just asking him to choose a middle name if it ends up being a boy.
@meeks2020 Sloane Jean is petty staccato, but that isn't her whole name. You've got to add on your last name, and so long as that is at least two syllables I don't think it's a problem. I don't know of any context where first + middle is used without the last name as well.

@livinthesunnylife I wouldn't trust him with a first name but maybe a middle. Lol also if you're the praying type, pray it's a girl so pur name choices will be easy @derbysquirrel that's true... you guys have pretty well convinced me to use Sloane, although I was leaning that way anyhow, I was just a little unsure
I adore the name birdie!!!! Looooove. Do that one instead!!!! My forever favorite girl name that dh vetoed was Brigid and I akways intended birdie as the nn!
I love the name birdie. Ever since I heard it in Hope Floats. Love. Love. Love.
Agree!

I'm super late to the party here.. I'm very into traditional names, so a lot of the names here certainly aren't my style.
We're having a little boy The name we've almost definitely chosen is Theodore Walter (with Teddy/Theo as a nickname). I'm interested to see people's thoughts but probably won't change my mind if everyone dislikes it either haha

Theodore is very high on my list if we have a boy! Love it.

Congrats on the boy! I love the name you've chosen, so classic and the nicknames are absolutely adorable! I really can't decide if I like Teddy or Theo better because I love them both
@tops-2 +1 for traditional names!!! Theodore and Walter are BOTH on our short list too. For some reason don’t like to share my name ideas (with anyone other than my H), but needless to say the list is all classic English names. My DS1 has a very classic name, as do I. Lots of overlap with @elsieisamoocow ‘s list too!

Ok, so my #1 name choice is Vivian. DH won’t go for it. The other day, he suggested Sienna. It’s just OK to me. But, then I was thinking about variations and saw on the nameberry app Vienna. Immediately, I liked it. So does DH. It made me think of the Austrian city, of course, and H and I have no connections to it...which is weird, I know. But, the average stranger won’t know that.
I brought it up on my O16 BMB and it was well received, but a few people did think of the sausages, which hadn’t crossed my mind. But, ew.
Looking for honest opinions here. Pretty name? Or, don’t you dare do that to your baby girl?
So I just caught up on this post now that we know we are having a boy. Just like @jsnakehole my DH is Israeli so I would like to pick a more Hebrew name. I have always loved Jacob but my DH hates the translation in Hebrew “yakkov” so that’s been rejected. The other contenders are Noah and Benjamin. The MN has to be Robert for my grandfather. I can’t decide the only problem with Benjamin is the initials will be BRF which my DH pointed out is barf lol
Vienna is weird to me as a name honestly. I think of the city and things connected. I didn’t think of sausages but I also don’t eat them much - it sort of feels to me like you meant it to be sienna, or Vivian or something and mixed it up.
Certainly worse mames than that though!!
theodore Walter is great! Love teddy. I randomly know another boy with the same first and last lol.
My order of preference is Vivian, Sienna, Vienna. I did not think of sausages but I did think of the city. I don't think it's a bad name or anything, it's just NMS. I wouldn't side eye you for using it!

Same. It isn’t terrible, but Vivian and Sienna are both wayyyyy better.
@f47 we have a lot of Viennas at my school, so it seems like a totally normal name to me.
@melissaf22 Jacob was on our list, but one of our close friends is named Jake. My husband's top Hebrew picks from the list I made were Noah and Aaron, but our last name starts with N so I didn't want to do Noah. It looks like we're settled on Joshua Michael, though (finally!). The most Americanized Hebrew name we could get.

@F47 I'm the weird one who immediately thought of the sausages - but I always think about food, so that's to be expected. I much prefer Vivian...it was on our short list if this one was a girl.
@melissaf22 I like both Noah and Benjamin - I think they both sound lovely with Robert! And honestly, I wouldn't think barf if I read BRF....
