I think we have landed on a girl's name but are all over the place for boys. I want to preempt my list with full acknowledgment that they are all unusual names and not for everyone. But I don't want to give my poor son a name that immediately elicits a laugh and an eye roll so please don't be shy!
Bowie
Townsend (this is my maiden name)
August (likely his birth month)
Hartwell
Wolfgang (my g,g,great grandfather's name)
Middle name would likely be Allen
Bowie like David Bowie?
I like Wolfgang...we've actually kicked that around a bit ourselves, although I don't think we are going there.
Wolf was actually a common WWII-era Eastern European name.
DH has finally moved away from the idea of Michael as a first name and has suggested the name Joshua. That's my mother's all time favorite boy name. I like it a lot, even though Aaron is still my first pick. The combinations we're thinking of for a boy:
Joshua Michael Joshua Aaron Aaron Michael Aaron Joshua
And we're pretty set on Eliana Carole for a girl.

Has anyone gone in to deliver and still had a list of 4ish boy names and 4ish girl names and plan to decide later? That's what my husband wants to do. It makes me nervous!

We knew the sex in advance, but we like to bring a list of 3-4 names to the hospital and not name the kid until we meet it. We delivered at night both times, but slept on it and settled on names for both girls the following morning.
@doctormom33 my daughter wasn't named until the last day at the hospital. It was no big deal. And her name came out of left field. Went in thinking if she were a girl, Charlotte, boy would be Owen. She's Allison. I am a firm believer in not naming until you meet your child.
I have always loved the name Rainy Day lastname. Would that be a decent name for job interviews? I know if she were an adult today, it would be laughed at but in 15-20 years would it be that bad?
I had a teacher in high school named Rain. She felt the need to explain to us that her parents were hippies the first day. We all laughed then we got used to it. She was nice so no one really made fun of her. I think because of her i'd say i prefer the name Rain to Rainy. Idk how i feel about the Day part though.
Okay I need opinion on this. We're debating Charles Frederick after both of our grandfathers. Mine was Charles and he just passed in November and we found out about baby 2 days before his funeral. My absolute favorite person. Would probably nickname Charlie as that's what my grandfather went by.
the problem? Well when I was 20, we got a cat that I still own and his name is Charlie. So he's 13 and will most likely die in up to 6-7 years. So is it weird to have a Charlie the cat and Charlie the kid? LMAO. I obviously wasn't thinking about potential kid names when I was naming a pet.
I say go for it. Start calling the cat chucky or something if it helps. Itll be nice to remember both your grandpa and your cat some day. I love naming babies after loved ones. We are doing something similar for our first baby's name.
@doctormom33 my SIL and BIL have 5 kids. They were team green for all and didn't pick names until day 2 in the hospital. Totally normal - to each their own!

Hello! You should change your knottie name to something more recognisable so we can get to know you!
We're still all over the place with names! Every time I think we've narrowed it down we try the name out in conversation and nope! Back to the drawing board.
So this week we're trying out Cora, Nora, and Collette.
What does everyone think about Alexandra vs. Alexandria? Preference for one over the other?
@livinthesunnylife - I'm so torn about it. So (bear with me here) my step-son's step-sister (I hope that makes sense!) is Alexa and she goes by Lexi. We see DSS's mom and the family all the time, like weekly so we're not sure if the names would be too similar? The girls would be 12 years apart so it's not like they'll be in school together but we're thinking more like family gatherings... So maybe Ali or something for a nn?
I think he'd find it hilarious if anyone named their kid that. We don't even know we're having a girl yet, anyways! I may not even need these names haha
I like Alexandra with Ali as a nn. And speaking as someone who has a cousin who’s names are so similar (our names are one letter different, and sound incredibly similar when said) it doesn’t really matter. We are 10 years apart and saw each other very regularly when we were younger and it was never a problem that our names were so close.
Although that might be fun... Alexa! Come pick up your book bag! *Ding* Sorry, that command is not recognized. Try asking "Alexa, what's the weather going to be today?"
Dh suggested Alexander as a possible boy name and I like it but vetoed it because of the awful way people in Cleveland pronounce the short A sound. It has two syllables here, for example, cat is “kee-yat”. I do not want my kid to be Ee-yalex. Lol.
Anyone have suggestions on twists of the names: Deanne, Anne or Shirley? I can’t come up with anything that I like
What do you mean twists? Like, Dianna, Anna and .... I got nothing for Shirley.
Yes- variations of those. They are the names of late relatives but I don’t like any of them. They don’t go with either of my other girls’ names and just aren’t my style.

Is there a style that your other 2 girls' names follow? Do you prefer more traditional names or more modern?
Definitely more modern- which is why this is a struggle since these names are traditional and totally NMS. I may just do Deanna for a middle name, but it won’t really flow (we go for modern, uni-sex names like Parker, Emerson, Jordan, Drew etc)
So since being surprised and finding out we’re team pink deciding on a name has been difficult
right now we’re looking at
Mary Elizabeth
Mary is my grandmother’s name....and I’d love to use her name...but is it too old fashioned ??
