@neeraja_k I live about an hour and 10 mins from Holiday World. I haven’t been in years and I’m dying to take DS1. Maybe this summer...when I’m 7 or 8 months pregnant and miserable... lol
@neeraja_k Holiday World is so awesome!! I went a few times as a kid and also in college. One time my friend and I tried to see how many times we could ride the Raven and I think we did something like 23 times. We had headaches, lol.
@hfooter I started leaving ds in the backyard last summer for short periods and it’s awesome. It’s been great this winter because I hate to be out in the cold so I bundle him up and send him out! Then I can keep an eye on him from inside.
@ladygali how old is he? Our new back yard isn’t that friendly yet for my little guy that 16 months. In our old back yard I’d let his brother out at that age. But I can’t wait for the day when I can let them out and not have to keep an eye on them!
@hfooter he will be 4 in April. I didn’t start leaving him out there until last summer when he was 3, although when he was 2 I’d maybe run inside to grab a drink or something. It’s all fenced in and I can see pretty much the whole yard from the kitchen window or sliding door. Mostly he stays in the sandbox.
@hfooter I can’t wait until it warms up. DS will spend forever shooting hoops on our deck, which I can see from our living room. Plus, the dog stays out if he’s out so that gives me comfort as well.
@hfooter I stick my 17 month old out in the backyard but it's completely fenced and there's nothing overtly dangerous out there. He's obsessed with his bubblemower and just pushed it everywhere. I leave the door open (mild climate) and can hear the mower humming when it's moving. I only leave him out there if I'm in the kitchen and can see/hear him and am doing something like the dishes or making lunch. Otherwise I just sit outside and he keeps himself busy. It's great.
So I just got into a car accident. Nothing major but I’m still super duper shaky. It wasn't high speed, i was going about 35 and the guy turned left in front of me. I slammed on my brakes but still hit his passenger door.
Oh No, this is one of my fears. Having a car accident while PG. I am glad you are ok.
Lame troll is lame. And damn, Lee is BORED! Seriously, maybe time for a hobby.
About letting the kiddos play in the yard, we've got a pool in the back yard so I don't think I'll ever get to the point where I'm ok with the kids being out there alone. They'll be 16 and I'll be setting the alarms on the doors that go to the back just so they don't sneak past me lol! But in all seriousness, our backyard is fenced but there isn't a fence separating the pool from the rest of the yard so even with swimming lessons galore, I don't think I could handle it.

Me, too, but we have a pond. I still closely watch my 12 year old when she’s outside because they always linger towards it. Throwing in sticks or rocks or whatever. lol.
@mrsbubbles-2 yeah, we live on a lake. I have the same thoughts. My BIL and his GF let their 4 kids (ages 8-11) play on the beach unsupervised when we're not here, and it makes me so mad. If we are here, I'm usually the only adult down by the water supervising their annoying kids. @dirtanddiamonds I can't remember where you are, but does your pond freeze? I get SO nervous about kids trying to go out on the ice before it's solid. ETA - you guyz, I ate a real breakfast this morning! No food aversions! *knocks on wood*

@lakesideknitter yay for real breakfast!!!!! I'm sorry you have to deal with BIL and his GF, I think I'd lose my shit on them lol! I'm a total nut about supervising kids in the water though so grain of salt and all that. I'm already in planning mode for how to child-proof the pool as best we can (I'm thinking a fence and one of those alarms that sits on the pool surface) but to leave kids unsupervised by the lake at that age?!? Not a chance.
@mrsbubbles-2 yeah, they also let them take our kayaks and paddleboards across the lake where we can't see them (lake is about 1/2 mile wide and 1 mile long, so the kids had to paddle almost a full mile against the wind to get back). I thought I was gonna have a heart attack. I need to get better about speaking up in the moment when I don't agree with something, and I need to make sure everyone is aware that's it's our house, so they need to abide by our rules. I'm also a freak about water safety (former lifeguard/swim instructor), so I get that I'm probably more uptight about it than most people.

We live in Missouri. So, yeah, it’s froze about three times this year. As a matter of fact, it was froze pretty good until last night. However, the temps rarely stay low long enough for a hard freeze. We will get negative windchill one day and two days later it’s in the 40’s. So, we don’t get out on it, ever. Lol. We do throw sticks and rocks on the ice to see if we can break it. Because farm life. Lol.
Just checking in to say I’m alive. We have a huge event for work tomorrow and Friday that I have to be away for so I’ve been working on that like a mad woman and spending. As much time with DS cause I’ll miss him for the night! Hopefully I’ll have some quiet time on Friday to catch up

I totally forgot I had planned to do my favorite 'Respect for All Week' reading lesson today. We read Dolly Parton's 'Coat of Many Colors' and then make inferences about how Dolly felt throughout the story. Afterwards, we write a letter encouraging little Dolly and telling how we would have reacted to her coat. Then we'll sing the song a few times later today. Never too early to introduce kids to the magic of Dolly Parton.

@lakesideknitter@mrsbubbles-2 we live on a lake too, and DD1 has fallen in off the dock with DH literally right next to her. She had just turned 2 and fortunately is a good enough swimmer that her instinct was to turn around and kick and grab for the dock, so DH just pulled her back up, but still. She has no fear and thinks she's a better swimmer than she actually is right now (though we've had her in lessons since she was a baby), so she is always heavily supervised while outside.
Basically we have a death trap in our backyard. I tried to tell DH we needed an alarm system purely to alert us if a kid wanders outside unsupervised but he's not convinced yet. Right now we just keep the doors locked because she can't reach high enough to unlock them herself.
Back to reality today!!! Ugh. Not happy to be at work today, but it was so good to get a big hug from DS this morning and see the look on his face when he realized mom was home! I have to give kudos to DH, he handled everything well, the house isn’t a disaster, Valentine’s for the class were filled out. I was very impressed! The 7+ inches of snow on the ground I could do without though!!!
Doing some major catching up here! I’ve been feeling really not well AND noticed some blood in my stool. Well, that mixed with me currently being anemic +google I had myself dead and buried. Brought it up to my OBGYN who then put the speculum were all used to getting during paps in my back door! For a swab to look for blood. Came back negative, such a relief and feeling better, thank you second tri! @calimom2524 glad your ok after your accident! @lakesideknitter I’ve had bleeding before too which can be so scary, happy to hear the baby’s ok! @jsnakehole teaching+ not feeling well is THE WORST, that’s when it’s time for independent work!

We have a pool in our backyard and it also makes me nervous. DS has been in Swim since he was 7 months and I think he’ll be swimming this summer if he keeps making the progress he’s making. Luckily thanks to Swim, he does have a healthy feAr of water. He went down the slide without permission twice and his swim instructor let him sink. It was awful to watch but definitely taught him to wait for permission to get in the water. We have a top lock so he can’t get out there and are planning to either fence the pool or put a net around it soon. But yeah, it’s going to be a LONG time before he can play out there alone.
ETA: obviously the instructor helped him, but let him stay under longer than normal. Not long enough for anything bad to happen.
Ugh. This morning I was all excited to treat myself to one of those shitty gas station cappuccinos. I know they are so bad, but I love those things. So sweet and tasty. Anyway, I go buy it, get it back to my office, wait 20 minutes for it to cool down so it won't burn my face off, and it literally tastes like hot water. There is obviously something wrong with their machine. And now I don't get my caffeine fix for the day, and I've missed out on my special treat. So irritated. You think if I go back and cry and tell them I'm pregnant, they'll give me something for free?
I'd love to leave DS in the backyard "unsupervised" but I tried to do that a few weeks ago and he started climbing the chain link fence which is about 20 feet above a creek. Lol. No. Our backyard is HUUUUGE and it's all fenced with chain link fence, which I actually like because we can talk to our neighbors and stuff but then it also scares me because DS can climb the fence. I had a quote on getting a privacy fence and it was thousands and thousands of of dollars. No thanks!!
I am surprised that the post a bumpie thread was shut down. The last comment made a reasoned argument about the benefits of organization. It wasn't mean-spirited, but thoughtfully written. Whatevs.
All this talk about water makes me realize how incredibly stupid I was a child. lol
I would often sneak out in the middle of the night by myself after mom passed out, and would just play outside at night till my dad got home at midnight. I was super fair skinned and night felt like the only time I didn't get sunburned and it was quiet. Night time walks are something I still enjoy to this day. I was taught to swim very early because our house had a pool, we had a big creek, were within walking distance to the river, and we lived next to a big lake on a neighbor's property. Anyway, I remember walking across the frozen pond one night by myself and hearing the ice cracking beneath my feet. The lake was far enough away from any houses that no one would have heard me if I fell through. Given all the other stupid crap I did as a kid, it's really a wonder I never broke anything or died. ><
So moral of the story, teach the kiddos to swim early!
@mrsbubbles-2 We have a pool too and we're in the process of getting quotes to get a fence because DS is getting to be the age where he wants to be out back all the time.
@coffeecocktailsandcake a bubble mower! Genius! I've been trying to come up with more outside toys for DS. Thank you!!! off to amazon I go
He is OBSESSED with pushing things. So his bubble mower and stroller are his favorite things right now.
Our fence is a vinyl one so he can't climb it. He mainly pushes his things around, comes up and slaps the dog door, or walks up and down this tiny hill we have. So easy to entertain!
And yeah, when I was young I was SO bad. We had a pond and we'd go out on it frozen!!!!
The highlight of my day was going to be my OB appt and hearing the heartbeat but it is now that I just found out McDonald's has a big Mac jr right now!!!!! OMG!!!!!! I think mcds is gross but I LOVE big Macs!!!!
@jsnakehole So funny Dolly Parton story. One of my brothers (brother #1) is obsessed with her. We all went on a family vacation once and brother #2 was in charge of arranging all the hotel rooms. When you book online, there's a place for 'Special Instructions', so bro #2 wrote 'Decorate the room with Dolly Parton pictures.' for bro #1's room. He totally didn't think the hotel would do it, but they did!! They went all out too and put little cut outs of her in the room, and photos on his pillows. It was hilarious to watch his face when he opened the door and there was Dolly Parton everywhere.
@coffeecocktailsandcake I learned the other day that H has never had a Big Mac. And you think you know someone... SMH.
DS played with his bubble mower forever, even last summer - he'd use it when DH was cutting the grass. He has a pretend weed wacker and goggles too and loves it!
