Re: Weekly Randomness 2/12

  • I'm having a wrong-side-of-the-bed kind of morning. Have had some light, bright red spotting since yesterday, so I'm hoping they can get me a radiology appt today or tomorrow just to check on my SCH. I know it's probably nothing to worry about, but I was really hoping it would have resolved by now. Maybe I should have started MBF.

  • I wasn't around much this weekend because my grandfather passed away yesterday morning. It's sad, of course, but he was 87 and he had been ready to go for a long time. I had breakfast with him last weekend, and I'm really glad I got to spend that time with him. He was just the sweetest man, and he had my Granny had been married for 56 years before she passed away 6 years ago.

My whole family gathered at his house yesterday because he passed away at home, but I just found out this morning my dad has the flu! Obviously, I was around him and hugged him so I'm hoping I don't get it. My doctor just said to watch out for symptoms and then go to urgent care if I get any.
  • @lakesideknitter I hope they can get you in just to check everything out. It's stressful, even if you're confident everything is fine.
  • @lakesideknitter I’ll be thinking of you today! I hope they can get you in ASAP to ease your mind. Hugs!

@melbel0824 I’m so sorry about your Grandfather. I hope you stay flu free.

  • @melbel0824 So sorry for your loss. That's nice that your family was able to be together yesterday and that you got to see him last weekend. Try to get your hands on elderberry syrup if you can. I've been taking it and so has DS. Ask your doctor if it's okay, but mine approved it. It says "not for pregnancy" on it but it's more of a CYA thing, from what I've researched.

@lakesideknitter hope they get you in soon!

  • @lakesideknitter - Biggest hugs girl, I'm sorry you're going through this. FX they get you in soon. Update when you can, I'll be thinking of you!
@melbel0824 - I am so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you got to be with your family but sorry you were exposed to the flu. I really hope you avoid it. Big hugs, your family will be in my thoughts

My nausea is back with a vengeance. I was dry heaving during math. The kids were confused, but I powered through.

  • So sorry for your loss, @melbel0824. Grandparents are so incredibly special.

I have realllllly struggled keeping up here. I’ve been posting in the name threads, but by the time I can check in, the randoms are pages and pages. Got on early today, though! When I worked, I could Bump throughout the day and it was great. Now that I’m a SAHM, I feel like I never have time. Plus, I make an effort to stay off my phone...

  • @lakesideknitter I had very light spotting Saturday morning. I took it easy for a few hours and it went away. Hopefully you’re doing okay!

Does anyone else have to take an early glucose test? My OB wanted me to take the test at 12-14 weeks. However, I was having really bad m/s and it’s super out of my way to the office, so she agreed to a week extension so I could do it before my next OB appt.
  • @melbel0824 I’m sorry for your loss.
  • @melbel0824 I am so sorry for your loss. Glad you got to spend some time with him! Hugs!

@lakesideknitter sorry you're going through that!! HOpefully it gets resolved soon!

  • @proudparent2b my glucose test is later in pregnancy. My sister had GD in her first pregnancy, so with her second she had to take it early. Is this your first? Have you had GD before?

  • @F47 It’s my second and I passed the glucose test with flying colors last time. I was told that it’s a new standard practice but am guessing that it’s probably weight related.
  • @jsnakehole Thinking of you and can't wait to see an awesome update!

@proudparent2b I've heard of docs requesting that patients take it earlier but only in cases where there's a history of insulin resistance or prior GD

  • @proudparent2b I am 12 weeks today and took mine today. I was told it was due to my families history of GD and because I am slightly overweight.

While at the doctor a lady came in very loudly so I couldn't help but hear. She told the receptionist she just found out she is 32 weeks pregnant. Like this lady looks super pregnant.. how did she not know?
  • @proudparent2b yep I took the glucose test at 12 weeks and will take another one later in pregnancy. I am only 5 foot tall and anything over 150 lbs is considered obese whether your pregnant or not. *Major eye roll here* So it is weight related in my case.

  • I have an appt this afternoon, but I think it's just a quick one where they doppler and measure.  Isn't that what 12w is?  I'm always happy to hear that little guy in there
  • @jsnakehole Don't feel bad if you need to stick on a movie or give them some busy work today although maybe it is better to work work work and keep your mind as occupied as possible. Best of luck! So exciting you get to see your LO today!!! <3

@ournextadventure that is craziness. I know it happens, I even know the reasons that people give, I just have a hard time believing that it actually happens!

  • I haven’t had to this time because I’m about 30 lbs less than my starting weight last pregnancy, but last time I had to do the early test (twice) and then the later test also. They told me it was because of my BMI. I’m also short (5’2”) so basically any average weight is overweight. Technically I still am, but my BMI isn’t quite as high so I think that’s the difference.
  • When do they normally do the GD test? And do they do it for EVERY woman? Or just those with higher BMIs? Mine is pretty border line, but no one has mentioned anything to me yet.

@ournextadventure Maybe she just found out she's 32 weeks? Like - she knew she was pregnant, just didn't know how far along she was? Maybe? Maybe?? (Giving people the benefit of the doubt here...)
  • @hezzer78 no she told lady the whole story. She said she had a sharp pain and some bleeding two nights ago and went to the hospital and they did an ultrasound on her to see what was causing the bleeding and that is when she found out she was pregnant. She said she noticed that she gained weight but didn't think anything about it. Luckily the hospital said the baby is okay. My doctor was going to try to squeeze her in for an exam. This lady was not super large or anything she obviously was pregnant so I just can't comprehend it.

  • @livinthesunnylife good luck at your appointment!

    @hezzer78
It is typically done between 24 - 28 weeks. I wouldn't worry they haven't mentioned it yet, they haven't mentioned it to me either. In the US I believe it is standard (It is not standard in Ireland, for example) but you could always give the office a call just to check!

  • @livinthesunnylife they will probably just take a quick listen and see how you have been feeling. Usually don't start measuring until about 20 weeks because there is not much to measure and they don't have standards to match the measurements to. Still exciting to hear the heartbeat though! That was all my last appointment was and it was still such a relief!
  • @dirtanddiamonds omgeeeee that's adorable!
    Thank you!!!!

Oh and my doc starting measuring at 14 weeks.  :)
  • @ournextadventure see, if I am gaining weight for no reason, I tend to think ... "hmmm, something is up," rather than "whatever." Lol.
  • @jsnakehole thinking of you!

@melbel0824 I’m sorry for your loss and hope you don’t get the flu!

@dirtanddiamonds so cute! And I love her name!

@legallykate how fun! Was everyone excited that it is a girl?
  • @jsnakehole Can't wait to hear about your appointment! I know it will be such a relief for you.
