Names?!?

Re: Names?!?

  • Well, we had the boy name picked forever (Kenneth Anthony). But we have had such a hard time picking a girl’s name. We both liked Kennedy Ann, but i kept feeling like there should be something better. I went through an entire book of names and couldn’t find anything I liked better and it was my husband’s Number 1 (and our daughter likes it), so we decided to use that if it’s a girl. I find out next week as I’m paying for an early ultrasound!

I like the name Kennedy! It's one of my husband's favorites.

Okay ladies, I need your opinion on something. My DS's middle name is Oliver. We have been having a really hard time finding any names that we like. Our last name is an noun AND it's one syllable so it has been really difficult finding something that sounds right and something we love. We read the name "Olive" last night and fell in love. Nickname (if we decide to use one down the road) will be Liv.

BUT would it be weird to name her that considering our DS's middle name is Oliver?
  • @foxbaby2016 I went to high school with a Jim (James). His older brother's name was TJ (Thomas James). It was a little weird when I first realized it, but it didn't really matter.  If your DS's first name was Oliver then that might be a little more weird. If you like Olive, go for it!
  • @foxbaby2016 I love that!  Unless your DS goes by Oliver all of the time, I don't think that's weird at all!

  • I think hubby and I have settled on a name, but we have a long haul so minds can change. Currently going with Ryan Samuel.
  • So I swear DH was on board with our names, I clearly remember having a conversation with him about it. The other day I brought up the names again, Nova Ann for a girl and Brady Jonathan for a boy (we're team green so have 1 of each picked out) and he made a face. I asked what that was for and he now doesn't "love" either of them. Dude, what?? Ugh.

  • Either of these jump out as better or worse than the other? I am so stumped. Trying to think of something that goes with Olivia.

    Cecilia Ann
    Lily Ann

  • @zg49 I totally did that to my H last time. We had settled on the name Emmy and he loved it, but I was having doubts that apparently I didn’t tell him about and I just moved on to a different name. The face making would lead me to say, “what’s a better choice then.” It’s easy to put up your nose when you’re not doing the work lol.

@cseley321 they’re both lovely! I have this weird thing where I want my kids’ names to be completely different. I have one that ends in -er and the other ends in -ey so for me I’d favor Lily over Cecilia because Olivia ends in -a too. I’ve always loved really beautiful names like Cecelia though!
  • Im partial to Cecilia @cseley321...what about Cecily Ann?

IMO, Cecilia Ann flows better but both are gorgeous names.
  • @cseley321 does your Olivia go by Livy?  If so, I think Lilly is really close to that so I would go with Cecilia.

I love Cecilia for a girl.  I used to babysit a little girl with this name and she went by Cece and she was the cutest thing EVER!  :)

  • We are down to two names, both family names (like our first two boys). What do you guys think between Nicholas and Michael? Husband and I can’t decide!! We have a Chris and a Rory
  • Felix edward for a boy (Edward is hubbies late grandpa) and Evie (pronounced E-V, like the Pokemon lol) annabell  (my nans name)  if it's a girl ❤ amazed my hubby agreed to such weird names
  • @dw1031 I like Nicholas over Michael

@themonstermash I LOVE Felix....it doesn't flow with our last night which is why we did not end up using it for DS.
  • Thanks for the feedback. We only call Olivia by her full name.... or monster :p

I will probably keep my options open but we may just go with Cecilia. I am just so bad with names. I never was that person who had a notebook of baby names picked out

DD1’s name starts with an L so we’re trying to explore other L names. DH and sibs are all Gs and me and my siblings are all Js. I came across the name Layton- I was thinking it could work for boy or girl? What do you all think as a boy name?
That’s our sons middle name, so I’m a little bias but I love it. We’ve received many compliments on it. Unique, yet classic-but not too out there
  • @Claireymary I love it for a boy! We found out we’re having a girl but I kind of want to save it if we ever have a boy! But can’t find any L girl names
  • @acunamatada I love coraline, or Cora. It was totally on my list until a friend named their baby that last year!
  • @zombiehoohaa @ckmb_knottie those are my two favorites! The best I could get out of DH was Margo but that would sound weird with our last name.
  • We are going with Rosalie Rowan for our baby girl! Occasionally, we consider our other girl name Charlotte Grace because we love the nickname Charlie, but fingers crossed we will be able to use both at some point!
  • @flockofmoosen3 I love Rosalie, but admit I’m biased since I’ve had that name on my list for years and think we are going with that for our little girl!

All of the names are nice, but Arden is my second fave that you listed because it isn’t super trendy so it feels more classic.
  • @natalie_1989 I like your style! We aren't totally set on Rosalie yet, but it's looking like the front runner for us. It's funny you mention Charlotte I considered it for FN to honor my dad, who is a Charles. I am just not sold on Charlotte, but I wish I was!

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • It’s a girl!
    Short list is:
    Calliope, Callie for short
    Taryn
    Devyn
    Clara
    Caroline
    Coraline
I seriously love all of these! Taryn and devyn haven’t been used in years it seems like so I bet it would be really unique for your little girl  I also love Clara as it isn’t super common but so cute
  • @acunamatada I love all your name ideas! Clara is my fav- one of my best friends used it recently or it would def be on my short list!!!
  • Now that I know it's a boy, I'm scared to pick a name lol. We seriously struggled with our son. The names we liked and didn't pick last time are:

    Oscar
    Liam
    Jack
    Oliver
    Owen
    Felix

I'm not totally sure I even like any of them anymore!
  • @zande2016 I LOVE Jack. I think is so cute when little, yet cool when older!

@acunamatada Callie is such an adorable nickname. My husband thinks I'm crazy because I am always figuring out the possible nicknames. I think it's important!

    @Natalie_1989 both beautiful choices.

My husband and I actually argued about names and it got real ugly. Finally we both agreed we love Gianna. I imagined as a baby I would call her GiGi as a nickname because I think it's so cute. SO, My sister became a grandma yesterday (yes... a grandmother....we are 20 years apart) and she decided she wants Gi-Gi as her Grandma nickname. I'm kinda annoyed. I'm wondering if this matters. I guess I'll give up the Nick name? Ugh.

  • @babybakie Gianna is so cute! My little sister is named Giavanna, we call her Gia- calling her Gigi will get you some major side eye. I guess what I’m saying is in the end, it might not stick or she might not like it! But I will say a large part of my name picking is based on possible nicknames. We named DS Jaxon with an X so we could call him Jax lol.

@zande2016 so many of those were on my boy list too! Oliver and Owen are my faaaaavorites!
  • @babybakie I love the name Gianna! So pretty. I personally would be really annoyed at that decision for your sister to go by the nickname you wanted to use...just cuz... she’s a Grandma and usually the kids end up putting their own spin on the name they call they’re grandparents due to pronunciation issues! I kinda find it odd when grandparents choose what they want to be called but maybe that’s just me! The nickname Gia is really pretty too!
  • Thoughts on Rylan for a girl? It’s the only name DH has thrown out multiple times but idk how I feel about it. I think it’s growing on me?

I love Rylan, I also like it spelled Rylin.
  • @acunamatada I like Rylen! I also love Calliope. So pretty :)

@zande2016 I like all of those names! Jack is a super cute name and also works well for a grown up.

@babybakie I love Gianna! So pretty!!

@julianne0 well... Im annoyed but I can't be annoyed with my sister, we have been keeping the name secret so she has no idea of my baby nickname fantasy lol. I felt bad mentioning it to her on the day she was so excited to be a 1st time grandma so I kept my mouth shut. And here I worried of the slight risk of her granddaughter being given the name, who the heck would think my sister would be given the nickname??! Wth. Lol. And yes, i like Gia too! But there just was something so cute about baby GiGi!

@acunamatada Rylan sounds beautiful! I never heard that before! And I LOVE Jaxon and Jax! Jack was a fav on my boy list. I really love the sound of the letter J. Actually Giavanna was on our list too!! I love that name but DH was feeling Gianna more and either way, they both mean "God is Gracious" and they are both the female italian variation of John in honor of my late father, and I still got Gia and Gigi as Nicknames. I only liked Gigi for a baby really, so maybe I am better off letting go of Gigi.

    Edited to add.

  • @babybakie Gia is so cute! I love the meaning behind Gianna.  Such a special name :)

  • Okay, we are settled on Madelyn for a girls name.  However, I have 2 questions I would love input on from you ladies.

    1.  Which spelling do you prefer?  Madelyn or Madelynn?  I am not really opposed to either, but have more commonly seen the 1 n.  My husband likes the 2 n version, and the more I look at it, I like it too.  Just don't want her to be constantly correcting people her whole life.  Am I setting her up for that if we spell it Madelynn?

    2.  Her nickname will be Maddie.  Is it more common for it to spelled with an ie, or a y?  DH thinks it should be Maddy, I think it should be Maddie.  Can you guys settle this for us?  lol

  • @stlmegs I think Madelynn looks prettier, as far as correcting people her life, I think that’ll be a
given for this upcoming generation lol. But I think it’s typically Maddie as a nickname- although Maddy makes more sense given the spelling.
  • @acunamatada I agree with all of that! lol.  Thanks for your input  :)

  • I'm feeling kind of down about picking a name.  Sloane is my top choice (middle name is undecided and the only options I've come up with are Olivia and Violet).  But I feel like I should love the name we're using and I'm not feeling that way about any name.  DH and I both like Sloane but also feel like we just can't come up with anything better.  It doesn't help that the few friends I've told don't seem crazy about the name.  No one has said anything negative really but you can tell by their reactions that they aren't crazy about it.  I know it shouldn't matter what other people think but it does bring me down a bit.  Does anyone else feel this way about their name choice?
