  • @lolog531DS is obsessed with fire trucks, so he would have been in awe! glad that they were able to come out and help!

both kiddos slept good last night.... except DS just woke up and threw up all over the floor and then in the toilet.  :s:s

@hardlyhannah I’m so sorry your little is feeling so crummy, high fevers are always scary! I hope he gets better soon!
@calimom2524 so glad you had a great trip! What was your favorite part?
@scottishlass1213 we got a king recently! In fact it was a few weeks before this one was conceived. Just sayin  ;)

AFM my whole house was taken down by the flu. Just ugh. DS seems to be through the worst part, now it’s just me and DH. So over winter and this cold/flu season!

  • @mrsbubbles-2 Ugh, so sorry! This flu season has been really really bad! It came through my house two weeks ago and it was ugly! Hugs to you!
  • @roadspeckle ugh I hear you on the puking littles. Mine was puking all day yesterday. Hope your little guy has a speedy recovery.

@mrsbubbles-2 it seems like since our BFP's we both have been dealing with  constant bugs. Yuck. What is it with these crazy illnesses this year?!  So over it! Hoping you and H get better soon.

  • @mrsbubbles-2 I think my favorite part was seeing the WTC memorial and Freedom Tower. It was such an eerie feeling being in that area knowing what happened there but it's somewhere I've wanted to go to pay my respects for many years.

The memorial was great, the museum was... less great. Our tickets were for EITHER the 9/11 museum, or the Intrepid Air and Space museum. If I had a do -over I'd choose differently.

My favorite was the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which surprised me since I'm not really a fine art fan, but I'm a history nerd, and seeing everything they had preserved was amazing. I wish I'd had more time there.

  • @derbysquirrel I didn't actually go to the museum, I was going to but ran out of time before I had to catch my flight. I just enjoyed going to the memorial and then to the Occulous (spelling?) mall (the giant rib cage looking thing) because my dad built the Apple store in it.

  • @mrsbubbles-2 noooo, not the flu. Ugh, so sorry. I am terrified of it. Hang in there.

Is anyone planning a vacation this summer? DH and I travel a lot...this last year we went to Vegas, Florida, on an Alaskan cruise and to Boston. Obviously we won't have that freedom this year but I would still like to do something small - maybe a long weekend somewhere. I want to take DS since this will be our last "just us" trip. (He did go with us to Florida and on the cruise but we were with extended family during both trips). What is everyone thinking? I'm considering a drive to San Antonio maybe, staying on the Riverwalk and maybe going to Sea World, etc. We actually "babymooned" in SA for basically free (I was a journalist at the time and did a story on SA as a good babymoon location). I'm not worried about the heat at all. When we went last it was over 100 degrees and I was fine.
  • @mrsbubbles-2 I hope you feel better soon! Were you guys able to get tamiflu?

@Firemanswife11 I want to go somewhere this spring and was actually thinking San Antonio too, or possibly New Orleans, but I don’t know if DH will go for that. We got married in San Antonio and always have fun there!
  • @Firemanswife11 DH's dad is getting married in LA in June so we are planning to make it a babymoon/family vacation with his brother and SIL and our nieces - fly to LA for the weekend and then fly/drive down to San Diego where there mom lives for a couple days. Don't want to use up too many of DH's vacay days though because I want him to be able to add some on to his paternity leave.

  • I still gotta go wander over to Feb 18 and check that out.  Take note lurkers, we did the same thing when we exited to FB with my last group.  You had to get 1/2 the group votes to get in and most of us did that based on whether we knew who you were or not.  So.....hi, welcome, jump on in here!

@Firemanswife11 Take all the vacations!  We were huge vacationers too before we had DS.  I even went on a 7 day Alaskan cruise while I was pregnant.  Soak it up.  Cause flying/traveling/etc is so much more work when you have to think of hauling all the baby crap.  As for us, I think we're going to get a cabin up north this summer.  DS does not love the car, so traveling more than about 1.5 hours is miserable.
  • I wanna take a trip this spring sometime. I absolutely HATE the heat in summer and I've done the whole 7-9 months pregnant in heat before and I will be avoiding anything without AC from basically June-August lol. We will probably be doing a camping trip since I work for a camping based company so we're thinking Yosemite or a drive to AZ to visit SO's family.

  • @calimom2524 If you don't like the heat......I don't recommend coming here in the summer lol......  I live on the face of the sun, hence the SN.  Luckily everything here is AC'd and we have a pool so I'll just float in there like a beached whale all summer
  • @mrsbubbles-2 I’m sorry you’re family has the flu ☹️

@roadspeckle noooooo the pukes! Awful! I hope it’s just a quick bug.

@Firemanswife11 we’ll probably do something but not sure what. Last summer we did a road trip to Green Bay (about 2 hours from us) and had a blast. We got to see Packers training camp and DS was in heaven (because he’s two and already loves all sports). They also have a train museum and an amusement park that has lots of rides for his size. At the same time I’d love to go somewhere new too. We probably just won’t fly it will need to be in driving distance

  • @Firemanswife11 San Antonio is great. We always have a good time when we go there. We have a trip planned to Spain over spring break. I mentioned it to my doctor last month and she seemed fine with it, but i've been reading some people say that traveling that far with a cerclage is a bad idea (I have to get one at 12 weeks). I'm gonna bring it up with her again at my next appointment - maybe since mine is a preventative one and not an emergency one, it's ok?
  • haha @livinthesunnylife if we head to AZ it will be in the spring. I lived in Vegas for 6 years so I'm fairly familiar with that heat and NO THANKS. I was in Scottsdale in June two years ago and I wanted to die. I also can't do extreme cold as I learned in NYC this past weekend so I think NorCal is the right place for me  :D

  • @calimom2524 Oooh, I would love to go to Yosemite. That sounds so lovely.
@amac12999 I loved New Orleans. Went twice, once for a bachelorette and once for work. SO met me there for the work trip and we had a fabulous weekend together!
@hardlyhannah The Green Bay trip sounds so fun. My DS just got into football (turned 2 a few weeks ago). I'm hoping we'll get him into baseball this spring too.

We have a trip to Austin next month to see my brother and SIL. And, I'm going to Florida by myself to visit my grandmother at the end of February. Gotta get my warm weather visits in while i can! And our family always does a big week long thing for 4th of July in the Adirondacks at our family cabin.
But, you all have me thinking that we should do a weekend away without our DS. My parents are pretty good at watching him for a few days, and it would be nice to get some quality time together before we double our chaos. Maybe we'll get a B&B down in one of the beach towns like Ocean City MD or Rehoboth Beach.
  • @westphilly I was wondering about 4th of July.... do you guys think that's pushing our luck for traveling?  It's still about 6ish weeks for me so I'd like to take advantage of the holiday.
  • I have so many trips planned this year that I am concerned about making them all. I have an out of state trip planned every month from March to September, except August when I will  presumably be giving birth. The first big trip is Disney World over spring break for SSs 18th birthday. I hope I can manage everything! I have three family reunions this summer, one of which is at Yellowstone in July with family I haven't seen in 15+ years.

TLDR: I need to watch my carbs in hopes baby doesn’t grow too big, even though it may make zero difference.

My first was 8lbs, 14oz., my second was 9lbs, 4oz. I’m not a large person. Not pregnant I range from 125 - 130 lbs and I’m 5’8”. I have a very long torso that clearly can make room for large babies.

My first experienced shoulder dystocia during delivery. VERY mild, thankfully, and he suffered no ill effects.

The on-call doc with my second pushed for me to have a c-section, but I waited for the next doctor to get his opinion at the urging of my nurse. I was planning med-free, so a section obviously wasn’t ideal, but of course I would’ve done it for baby’s safety. Second on-call doc said I absolutely didn’t need one, he didn’t think baby was “that big” (again, he was 9.4 lbs), and he was confident I would deliver fine.

With an episiotomy, I only pushed three times and second DS was born very easily in 15 minutes.

My OB thinks my body may react as if I have GD even though I haven’t tested positive for it. Just like I have PCOS without some of the common symptoms. Therefore, he said it may be beneficial for me to limit carbs, sugar & fruit. He thinks it *may* keep baby number three from being 10 lbs. Obviously, he can’t say for sure, but it’s the only thing I have control over.

Its frustrating because I eat healthily, and I exercise regularly. I don’t want to have to limit carbs, too, but I’m scared not to and the result be a big baby who struggles to be delivered, or God forbid has shoulder dystocia with bad repercussions.

I don’t even know why I’m word vomiting all of this. Support? Recipe ideas? Just need to get it out there?

I’m going to eat what I can keep down the next few weeks (morning sickness), and then start my modified diet. If babe is still a 10 pounder, we’ll need to have a talk once he/she arrives.

@derbysquirrel I was supposed to be going to Disney with DS and my grandma in October, but taking a newborn doesn’t seem like fun, so we’re either rescheduling for May or not going.

I have ave a trip with girlfriends out of town in late June that I’m hoping to make. It’s a 2-hour flight and I’ll be 30-31 weeks.

How far is the travel to Yellowstone for you? That sounds amazing! (But, also, tough at 8 months pregnant).

  • @hardlyhannah I hope your DS is feeling better!

@lolog531 that sounds terrifying. Glad the car was still on, warm, and he had entertainment!

@Firemanswife11 we are planning a trip to Vancouver BC mid March. Hoping to have a bit more of my energy back by then! Anyone have suggestions of things to do in Vancouver? We are pretty much just at the bought tickets and found place to stay stage.

@livinthesunnylife I have been trying to post when I can! Work has kept me super busy this week. Hoping you all have seen my name pop up enough even if its not daily.  :#
Also, my OB told me no traveling further than 2 hrs away after 34 weeks, so maybe check in with your doc about the 4th of July? Unless you were thinking about a trip somewhere fairly close by!
  • We normally visit family in western Montana every summer around the second week of July. And while if everything goes well pregnancy wise I'm sure I'd be allowed to go, I'm not sure how well I'll want to spend days in the car driving across the country a few weeks from my due date in the heat of summer.

I'm already sensitive to being overheated when I'm not pregnant, I get horribly nauseous, it's hard to breathe, and just don't seem to adapt well to the heat and humidity, and I'm sure heavy pregnancy will compound that. Even though the weather out west is so much nicer than here in the summer. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, or maybe we can plan to go earlier.

  • @F47 I brought a 3 month old to Disney World this past September and other than it being kind of hot out it really wasn't bad.  She was EBF, so I just nursed her whenever she was hungry, and since she wasn't moving around on her own yet, she was happy to hang out in the stroller or carrier all day.  all of the parks have mother's rooms for nursing if you're not into doing that in public, but more often I just sat at one of the quick service restaurants facing a wall and nursed her whenever she needed it.  It was actually a lot easier than when I brought DD1 at 8 months, because she was crawling and didn't want to be confined to a stroller all day, and she would only nap in the crib so we had to bring her back to the room twice a day, and she was eating solids so we needed to have all sorts of purees with us...that was a lot more annoying.

That said, I'm going back in March and DD2 will be 9 months, but she's not looking like she'll be crawling anytime soon so I'm not too worried about it.  the food will be annoying though.  especially if I have to start supplementing by then.  I didn't even bring my electric pump last time, and I might need it this time around. Boo.

  • Getting caught up after a busy morning. I’m sorry to hear there’s so much flu going around. I had mono in the fall at some point and a horrible virus along with it that I’m still getting over. It started in early November!

Has anyone ever watched a glacier move? That’s about how fast my son eats his lunch. Omg kid.

I think there’s talk of a family vacation to NC to spread my husband’s grandmother’s ashes but they were talking September or October. Not sure how I feel about traveling with a new born.
  • On the vacations front, I am dragging my fat ass to the beach for a family reunion on DH's side in June, and after that I will be going nowhere.  I'm already dreading the flight.  I will be enormous and we'll have a 3 year old and a 1 year old with us.  I guess the "lap child" will have to be on DH's lap, because I am unlikely to have one at that point.  It's that or a 9 hour drive, and I don't know what the better option is.

My in laws rented a RIDICULOUS beach house for us and it cost them a ton of money, so I don't want to miss it.  Also I highly doubt we'll be flying anywhere for the holidays this year, because we will be outnumbered by children, so I figure that's the last time we'll see everyone together for a while unless they want to come to us.

  • We're planning to go to Boulder, CO in June for the Ironman Tri which will double as our babymoon.  I won't be as active a cheerleader for this race but it will still be a fun trip.  Since H is racing neither of us will be drinking and we will both want to go to bed early so at least we will be on the same page there!

  • DH and I were thinking about visiting my parents in Texas around memorial day, but now they're talking about possibly moving closer to us so that's up in the air. We definitely want to do some sort of trip before the baby comes.
  • F47F47 member
@delujm0 Did you get on the rides with her at 3 months (obviously I mean the calm ones). We took the family in October and DS was 11 months. He was a pain, but it was nice I was still nursing him because he would usually fall asleep if I nursed him at nap time. I can see a tiny baby being easier in some ways, but nighttime wake ups in a hotel room would be annoying for DS and my grandma.

We wanted to take just my oldest (DS2 would only be 23 months, so he wouldn’t realize). I was looking forward to that one on one time with my big boy. Taking the baby adds a whole new element!

  • @neeraja_k the heat makes me sick as well. We've talked about traveling to the south west (US) because I've never been but it would definitely be in the spring because I cannot handle the heat.

Anyone else feel like everyone is getting married this summer?? We've already got 5 save the dates....
  • We travel a lot. Thankfully he’s working in FL now so that means I travel there occasionally to see him. It’s 60 there. And -12 windchill here. Yuck. His current job is up in May. And he’ll be home. And we will stay local after that until baby arrives.

But it we just bought a new travel trailer about a week before BFP. We take our UTV’s out on poker runs and such. It’s a blast. Baby will be born to travel.

  • @livinthesunnylife I have been thinking about that timing of 4th of July, because I'm due Aug 2 and went a week early with my son. It's even more complicated because we go to a cabin that's at least a half hour from a clinic and over an hour from a hospital. Right now I'm planning to go, because it's our big family get together, and my brother and SIL fly in from Texas for it and I don't want to miss it. Labor a month early is not common. Plus, I can still get to a hospital in case of any real emergency.
But, I'll definitely talk to my doc as it gets closer and assess the risks of where my specific pregnancy is at the time. With my last pregnancy, I would have done it because it was all pretty routine up until he was breech at the end. But, I know each time is different, so we'll see how things are progressing as we get closer.
  • @F47 I had GD with both of my children and my sister and I were both big babies (over 9lbs) so I kind of assumed I would just naturally have bigger babies. That being said my son was born two months early and weighed 6lbs9oz so would have been huge if he went full term. My daughter was born at 37 weeks and weighed just under 8lbs. All of this to say that every baby is going to be a little different. I do agree with your ob though and if eating as though you do have GD may help and as much as it sucks may be in the best interest of everyone.

  • @laufisch yes to the weddings! We have two STDs and they are back to back weekends, both involve travel for us, and they’re brothers! I think we’re only going to the one that’s two hours away and not the one that’s in Maine even though I would love to go to both. They’re at the end of June and that just makes me nervous to travel that far even though I’d still be 6 weeks out. DS came 3 weeks early with pre-e so I have it in my head that is what’s going to happen again
