I think the timing with these kids is nice though because once we do have to go back to work at 12ish weeks, the holidays aren't too far off and we at least get a few days with them for that
I dunno, it was kinda rad with DS2 who was born 11/24. I was off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Valentine's Day. I don't care at all about V Day but it was still cool to have all of my favorite holidays off.
@cthulu I’m so sorry you’re stuck waiting like that! With my DD, I got a positive hpt at 3.5 weeks so it’s definitely possible. Fingers crossed baby will be much bigger at your next ultrasound!
From these post I have come to the realization that I will not qualify for FMLA. I started my job on August 14 which is also my due date. I went two weeks early aith DD, so most likely I won’t deliver past August 14. I doubt my job will give my position away, but what happens when you don’t qualify for FMLA? I need to call my HR friend, because I didn’t think about this. I haven’t told my job yet so I can’t inquire within.
My job also does not pay for maternity leave. Luckily I signed up for short term disability so I will get my salary worth for three months. My husband has a pleathera of sick and vacation time, so he will most likely take a month like he did the last time.
HUGS, to all the ladies that are worried about the amount of time they will be able to take off and how they are going to afford it.
I work in HR and handle our FMLA. A year is all it takes and to be quite honest, organizations don’t have to stick to that. I had a friend at an old job that hadn’t hit her year and they still honored it as a leave of absence. So I would talk to your boss and HR!
@cthulu I'm sorry that this part is so damn stressful. I found out via HPT at 4w and thought I was farther along as well. My first appt terrified us! It was a rough two week wait but I just had my 2nd appt/us Tuesday and everything is just fine. Keep your head up. I hope this time goes by quickly for you and that you get wonderful news in two weeks.
@cthulu I'll be thinking of you! Hoping you get good news in a few days.
I'll be taking my full 12 weeks off - unpaid or not. I also have quite a few personal days (like 20+) built up that I've never taken, so depending how I feel I may use some of those too.
I agree @livinthesunnylife - baby is due end of August, then 12 weeks off puts me to Thanksgiving (and a week break), then 2 more weeks and I have 2 weeks off for Christmas. I may just end up taking the entire fall semester off.
@cthulu I found out at 10 dpi so fx it’s just a timing issue here! Will be thinking of you!!
My DH got 16 weeks - not a typo - fully paid parental leave when I had DS. A far far far better deal than I got!! He has since switched jobs, so we’re looking at maybe one unpaid week off
@ssthomps a lot of times, even if you're not technically covered by FMLA, if your employer likes you, they will allow you to take the 12 weeks off (unpaid) and hold your job.
That said, I would look into the wording on your short term disability policy. Most times it will only cover the standard recovery time unless your doctor extends it. Standard time is 6 weeks for vaginal birth and 8 weeks for surgical. So if you're looking for coverage on pay, it's unlikely to cover more than that. One of my previous employers also required you to work there for a full year before the short term disability policy kicked in, so I'd look at that too and make sure you are covered. The insurance won't negotiate like your employer will, it will all be according to the policy wording. Your employer may still allow you to take additional unpaid leave though.
I just looked into short term disability through the DOE. I would have to use all my sick days, then go 28 days unpaid in order to get paid 1/3 of my salary (which isn't much to begin with, especially considering I have a Masters). The system is pretty much set up so female teachers that choose to have children can either take no leave or owe the system for most of their careers. It's really disheartening. We're expected to go above and beyond for our students, but can't take care of ourselves or our children.

@lolog531 at my last job there were 3 of us pregnant at once and I was due last, when I came back from leave 2 more were pregnant. We only had an office staff of 10
Big night over here, E finally pooped in the potty. Celebrations all around! It’s crazy how much poop is talked about once you’re a mom. All of the poop.
*TW* I wasn’t sure where to put this? I’ve been having moderate to severe cramping all week (8 weeks tomorrow). I had it mildly weeks 4-6, then it stopped. Even though I don’t remember it being his intense with DS I figured it was ‘normal’. I had a bit of spotting yesterday, which I know can also be normal, but I’ve never experienced it before. I called my OB today and she recommended I come in tomorrow morning for an u/s. I wasn’t scheduled to see her until 2/6, so I haven’t had any blood work or appointments yet. I’m probably just letting my anxiety get the best of me, but any good thoughts are much appreciated as I’m quite nervous.
@calimom2524 Woohoo! poop is a huge deal!!! How old is E? DS (2.5) has only gone poop twice - both times at school last week. Pee only a handful or so times. He shows no interest at home, but has success at school. I think it’s because he sees all his buddies doing it. My goal is to have only 1 in diapers, so we have roughly 30ish weeks to get him there! Ha!
@lolog531 he turned three on thanksgiving. It’s been an uphill battle for sure. He’s great at peeing but he’s had a serious poop in the potty aversion. He goes just fine at school but when he’s home it’s like, meh, I’ll just pee on the floor cuz I can.
@lolog531 fx that it's nothing! I've been cramping and spotting too, waaay worse than with my first. Also having a U/S tomorrow!
The google art and culture app is telling me I look hella crazy. Hamlet/closet scene crazy, and yes--Hamlet was the match. Not his much prettier mother. Trying to keep my mind off ultrasound/figuring out OB billing agreement tomorrow, it has proven to be a funny distraction!
@calimom2524 I just keep being told that you have to be patient and not pressure them, so we are kind of just taking it day by day right now. I never thought I’d be so concerned about someone else’s poop and pee though! #momlife Glad he is making progress though!!!
@calimom2524 my 2.5 year old shows zero interest in doing anything on the potty. She has peed a few times at school, but even when we try to bribe her we get nothing. I fully expect to have 3 in diapers when this one is born. I'm only half joking when I say that DD2 might be potty trained before DD1. She is 7 months old right now. Sigh.
ETA DS and I woke up with the nasty cold that's been going around his daycare. I'm thankful we've managed to avoid it so far, but really hoping it passes quickly for both of us!

Thanks ladies!! Appointment is at 10:45 and I swear this morning is dragging already! DH has a meeting downtown this morning right by my OB office so he will be meeting me there thankfully!
Thanks all! 4.5 hours to go. Gonna try to get errands and stuff done in the meantime--I am no good at waiting for these things! @lolog531 fingers crossed for you too!
Thinking of you @lolog531 Hoping for a good update.
So..... I saw a news story on that google app yesterday and it really makes you think twice. Google is building a database of facial recognition information. Texas and another state have blocked it because it's unclear where the information is being stored or what it can be used for.
@delujm0 DS1 basically trained himself and told me one day he didn't want diapers anymore so I said ok but that means you have to use the potty and he was like "yeah, I know." Done. DS2 is proving to be a much bigger challenge but we're not forcing him. He's finally realizing he likes to get the praise when he uses the potty so FX maybe he's finally deciding at 3yo that it's time. It will be lovely being out of diapers...for 8 months. Then it starts all over again haha
Had my first OB appointment just now - saw a heartbeat! Too early for Doppler yet. Have my NT scan scheduled for three weeks from now where we’ll get a nice long look at baby. It was a big relief seeing that heartbeat. Second tri can’t come fast enough
