Re: Weekly Questions 1/15

  • @hoodwink89 I have bought two tiny pairs of mox (my favorite brand of baby shoe) one for a girl and one for a boy, it's how I plan on announcing the sex whenever we find out. That's all I'm gonna buy for a while though!
@vinerie absolutely nothing healthy sounds good to me, all I want is mac and cheese and pizza. Ugh.
@69mil I've heard mixed reviews on those, a lot of women I know had trouble finding the heartbeat so they would freak out and eventually become obsessed with needing to listen multiple times a day. I feel like for me it would just give me too much anxiety to have one.

I am still getting used to this app ... but to @proudparent2b @fishee333 thanks for the input! My insurance covers everything if referred for it. We are military and are seen on base so I don't even see a bill. Yeah, I'm anxious about it because I don't see the point in hearing odds of something being wrong when there's nothing I'd do further as far as anything invasive and I definitely am having this baby no matter what. BUT I'll go and get the education and we will then decide what we even want to test for ... and hubby is so excited to hear the sex "early"

  • I know there are a few moms on here who have kids really close in age, but I can't remember exactly who so I can tag them.  Anyway, I had my dating scan today.  This one will be about 14 months younger than DD2.  The doctor said I'm at increased risk of preterm labor because the pregnancies were so close together.  Both of my girls were born during the 39th week...DD1 was 39+6 and DD2 was 39+2.  I wouldn't be surprised if this one follows the trend of being a bit earlier, but I'd be pretty shocked if it came before 37 weeks.  So anyway, for those of you in a similar position, was the younger kid a lot earlier than the previous one?  Just wondering what I should prepare for.
  • @delujm0 Interesting! I haven't had my dating scan yet, but I seriously hope they warn me of the same thing...DD was born at 41+5 (via induction!) so anything earlier than that would be a dream!
  • I'm having a bit of a problem deciding where I'm going to give birth. It's down to two birth centers and the only thing that's really pulling me toward one of them is that they offer nitrous oxide. I am curious how much this miracle gas is worth!? I have heard great things about it but I'm hesitant to choose a place based on some gas lol
  • @delujm0 Mine are about 14.5 months apart. I had 'issues' with #2. I say 'issues' as its just my normal body in pregnancy, and all the precautions they took were wasted, as she stayed cooking for several weeks after they were gone, and they actually caused some serious PTL while in place.
She came not quite 2 weeks early, and only after at least 1 L&D/Triage trip a week (24-34w) to stop PTL. They removed the cerclage at 34w and the PTL stopped within 30 min.

I think it would be nice to be forewarned, but maybe don't start panicking or stressing just yet.

Omg. I’ve been living on Mac and cheese and different pizza things. Like bagels. Rolls. Take out. All the pizza stuff.

I used it and wouldn’t want to give birth without it again! It doesn’t work for everyone, but I feel like it’s always better to have options, right?

  • @multifariousmermaid I had nitrous oxide for my manual placenta retrieval. All I remember about that part is putting the mask on, then I woke up an hour later. I would definitely want it as an option.

  • @princesslockness and @lalala2004 you both make very strong arguments! I'm leaning toward nitrous...

One thing to consider even if you wouldn't do invasive testing is whether or not the hospital you'll deliver at does fetal surgery. At my hospital, if there were any issue, the baby would be airlifted to a hospital an hour away, and I wouldn't be able to leave right away. So on the off chance you do have markers, make sure you ask what protocol is for something like that.

  • If anyone switched Ob/midwife practices, did they repeat an initial ultrasound?
I switched from an obgyn to a midwife at about 30 weeks. The obgyn was not supportive at all of my wishes to have an unmedicated birth and then made comments about my weight gain and how I wouldn't have the birth I wanted if I wasn't careful. I cut her loose right away and found a midwife practice that was much better for me. I had two ultrasounds done at the obgyn and they transferred everything over for me. The midwife actually went over the ultrasound with me because the obgyn never did. I didn't have another one until I was in labor to check on her sized. I wouldn't think twice about switching care providers to find the right one. Go with your gut!!

    Hello from Detroit!

  • Anyone here change up their skincare routine now that's they're pregnant? I was googling the active ingredients in my SPF moisturiser and apparently I should avoid them. Eurgh. Im not going to go crazy paranoid with every lotion and potion I touch but of course that article got me thinking....

I saw that same article this morning and literally groaned. I'm extremely fair skinned and I burn at the drop of a hat. My last pregnancy I ended up with big, ugly brown splotches all over my face before I found out I was pregnant.

So I switched to spf face lotion, and now I'm not supposed to use it because of the sunscreen chemicals? I guess I'll look around and see if I can find a facial sunscreen that doesn't make me look like I'm in mime makeup. Maybe one of the mineral makeup companies make one. :/
  • Id be curious about skincare because I have developed this are on my chin into my cheek that is sooo dry it’s crusting over. I’ve done moisturizer, natural oils etc and trying not to aggravate it with cleanser but I still need to cover it with makeup for work!
  • I had consistent cramping the first few weeks I was pregnant, then it more or less stopped (aside from an occasional incident, and a few that later turned out to be gastro-intestinal). It started up again last night- dull and achy on my left side, then on my right, now back on my left. I know this 99% probably normal, but as a FTM I'm freaking out. I'm going to call my doctor when the office opens, but has anyone else experienced this?

@jsnakehole I had a lot of cramping yesterday as well. It's possible dull and achy cramps could actually be RLP, especially if they're moving around. Baby is starting to take up more and more room! Hopefully your doc puts your mind at ease.  <3

  • @jsnakehole that was me exactly yesterday. A few dully, achy cramps. My first appointment is Monday, so I'm trying not to let it worry me, but if you do call your doctor let me know what they say.

@lakesideknitter I definitely considered RLP, but it still made me nervous.
  • @ecwk  When we started TTC I started using BeautyCounter products.  It’s an MLM so you can’t buy it in stores but I really like the products and they have a super strict ingredient list.  I also use the ewg.org website and the ThinkDirty app to find safer products.

  • My doctor is seeing me right after school. I only spoke to a receptionist, so I didn't get any medical advice, but I guess I sounded worried enough/since I'm a first timer, they're erring on the side of caution. I'm super nervous and feel like puking. This school day can't go fast enough. I'm pretty much going to throw these kids at their parents at dismissal. I'm still cramping, but I'm wondering how much is psychosomatic (I have a big problem with psychosomatic symptoms).

My mom said that she remembers cramping, and she didn't worry because she wasn't bleeding. She said we have too much access to information, and I would be better off being "pregnant and dumb" like she was.

  • @jsnakehole I'm glad they're getting you in today just for peace of mind. I kind of agree with your mom. We know so much now and Google is both awesome and awful at the same time. It can really mess with your head.

My mom said the same thing, especially after DS was born and I was googling every symptom, cry, and feeding. In a way she was right, sometimes i have to make myself take a break from googling all the symptoms.
I am 11+6, and I had similar cramping pattern. Lots in the beginning, and now some of it has come back. I remember from my first pregnancy that my belly didn't grow very linearly. As in, I wouldn't gain much weight or look bigger for a few weeks, then bam, my belly was hanging out there and gained a lot all in one week. It could just be growth picking up again.
I hope your appointment goes well this afternoon. I'll be thinking of you today.
  • @princesslockness I met with my diabetic educator last week and she explained that as you reach the end of 1st tri your insulin resistance can lessen, then increase again at the end of the 2nd tri. Are you sending in your numbers? Lows like that are so scary, I’d recommend calling about a potential adjustment. Until then do you have fast-acting glucose tabs? Keep them on hand just in case. I hope things even out for you soon! Hugs!

@jsnakehole that’s great that they’re getting you in so soon. Big hugs, update us when you can

  • Thanks, everyone. I'm in my mom's office, reclining on one of her comfy chairs and the cramping actually feels a little bit better like that. Maybe I just slept the wrong way/wasn't sitting the right way yesterday. I'm still going to the doctor to check everything out, but the fact that reclining is helping is making me feel a little better.

  • I agree about too much information being a blessing and a curse. I've pretty much convinced myself that I'm either dealing with, or gong to be dealing with gestational diabetes, despite having petty weak "evidence." It's hard to not be paranoid, and I'm not even someone who is predisposed to being anxious. It is great that we have so much better information, but it's too easy to overanalyze or worry at every possibility.

  • @jsnakehole I haven’t had much cramping this time, but remember having a lot with DS. I was a teacher also then (I stay home with DS now) and I remember constantly asking my BFF and a coworker I was close to if it was normal. Glad you’re getting checked out but I’m betting all is good!
  • @mrsbubbles-2 I don't have any. I'm just using the left over strips from last pregnancy, so when they start asking/pushing for a GTT early I have some numbers and its not 'well given your family history and weight . . ' I would have concrete numbers to determine when its needed.

  • @jsnakehole I'm with PP - I think it's just RLP but that's good they're seeing you to make doubly sure. That shows your doctor's office listens to your concerns and takes you seriously - that's great! Keep us updated on your appointment.
  • @calimom2524 I think me!  I keep wondering if that's what it is!  With DD I just assumed it was gas until like 20 weeks but now I'm wondering if that's what this is.  I actually was just googling how soon you can feel baby kicks.

I'm thinking that maybe STM+ may feel it sooner just because we know what to look (feel?) for but I know I didn't feel it this early with DS2 haha. It makes me so happy every time I feel that little flutter though! Even if it is gas, I'll take it lol

  • The OB actually told me yesterday I would feel it sooner this time.  But since I had the placenta in the way and didn't feel it forever last time, I'm not sure what "earlier" means...lol
  • I feel like at 10 weeks I must be crazy and it's gotta be gas...but maybe not?
