@j1006 My clinic discourages drinking after starting stims (which isn’t your case yet) only because they don’t want people to have anything with which to blame themselves if the cycle doesn’t go well. So a drink is probably fine.
@J1006 I'd think you'd be ok if on BC right now. I wouldn't once started stims, but a glass of wine or something is probably ok for now. I'm like you and rarely drink, but reading your question has had me googling it! lol I was thinking NYE would be the last of anything. My in-laws and DH are huge wine-o's, so if I don't have any....they'll be questioning me too!

Thanks for the advice ladies. I figured one would be ok, but ended up with a headache and not drinking anyway. Now on to a Christmas break of shooting up drugs
I started stims last night and while I'm not going to drink in excess, I do plan on having a little bit (maybe 1/4 - 1/2 c of wine) on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I highly doubt that amount would hurt anything.

AFM, I went in for my CD 7 monitoring today. I have 9-10 follies in the 1.0 - 1.3 range, which I'm happy with at this point. I'm staying on 200 Puregon and 75 Menopur and adding in the ganirelix starting tonight. I'm hoping at least a few more follies pop up by CD 10 on Friday (which is my next monitoring appointment) and the ones I have keep growing. I have an acupuncture appointment tomorrow so hopefully that will help too!

@halfanewt Sounds like a great week ahead for you! Yes, we have told our families. Most already knew we were doing treatments this years anyways. For me now, it's easier to be open and honest. Think I just don't care anymore, plus we have gotten a lot of great support now that people know. They have laid off with their "suggestions" knowing things are more complex.

@halfanewt. We told my husbands immediate family and that’s it. My BIL and his wife were trying for their second when we started trying. They have been a huge support through everything. My MIL and FIL are helping fund our IVF so they know. My parents are extremely religious and we don’t know how they would react to us doing IVF. We have decided to just keep it to my husbands family.
Thanks! I anticipate that I will be stimming for 8 or 9 days with an anticipated ER on the 1st or 2nd of Jan.
We haven't told our families. I'm a VERY private person and I don't like ppl knowing my business and don't want to have to answer questions along the way or have to deal with all the pity if this doesn't work out. No word of a lie, every kid born in my family in the last 10 years has been an oops or first try baby - I know because everyone has bragged. I know that nobody will understand so I don't want to have to deal with their "well-meaning" advice. *TW* I haven't told them about either of my losses either.

@halfanewt I am close to my parents so they’ve known from the start when we started IUIs. DH is more private and his parents are not as empathetic as mine, so we didn’t tell them until we were asking for a loan for Ivf. That was awkward. I don’t think you should feel obligated. We told because we knew it would feel better and we’d feel supported. If it would just cause you stress, then don’t tell. You have to take care of yourself.

@halfanewt Both of our families know, but I keep my parents more abreast of everything than my ILs. My parents are also helping us out financially, and they dealt with IF for a very long time, so they understand. We’ve tried to be more vague around the transfer part because we still wanted to have the fun of a big announcement. That hasn’t worked terribly well because I told my parents when we were doing both transfers, and for the last one DH blabbed to his sister, who told his mother. *TW* So it sucked A LOT when the FET resulted in a CP and we had to tell all these people. *end TW*
Long story short, for me, yes to telling family about IVF, but going forward I’d prefer not to tell them about the transfers (except I’ll probably tell my parents anyway because I’m close with them and I’d want their comfort if the next one fails).
@tosh24 I'm glad you are happy with your follie count! And thank you for asking about the Lupron. So far so good side effect-wise. I had one headache yesterday but I don't think it was the Lupron...it felt like my usual type of headache that I get. Other than that, just a slight increase in sleepiness. I was really tired right when I started but it's tapered off. A little bit of weight gain too........but not sure how much of that is holiday weight or Lupron weight. I know for sure that a fair amount of it is in the boobs.
@halfanewt Both DH and I are very close with most of our family. We decided quite a while ago to tell our immediate families and a few close friends. For us it helped to take some of the pressure off and they have been a great source of support. But every family is different. Don't feel obliged to tell anyone if you do not want to. I was pondering a similar thing just a while ago. I'm an administrator at an assisted living. My boss and the other administrator are aware that we are doing IVF but the rest of my staff do not. I was putting together a note for staff regarding my soon to be multiple late days and days off which, of course, happen to coincide with my bosses vacation. I was contemplating telling the staff why I was going to be gone so they could better understand the timing of everything for my days off. In the end I decided against it and just am saying that I have a medical procedure. I just didn't like the idea of people talking about my situation with each other. More people that would have to be told if it did or didn't work and I would like to surprise at least some people with a pregnancy announcement someday.
Hope everyone had good holidays! I am so excited for next month to start for all of us!
@halfanewt I actually not only told both our families, but I told everyone. I made a very public FB/instagram post about it and have been documenting my IF journey since IVF started back in November. Not an obnoxious every day thing, but every 3 isn days I will post a funny video of my H injecting me, or a picture of a needle next to a glass of wine or something. It has not only been amazingly good for me (I am an open person, dealing with all the side effects and time crunch and money crunch without people knowing would be hell for me), but I have gotten such AMAZING support from friends as well as people who I haven't talked to in years. I had someone from high school who I haven't talked to since graduation message me and say that she had just finished IVF and gave me support. Its been great, even through the downs.
@kiwi2628 Me too!! I keep thinking "only 1 more holiday to get thru" and it's game time!!

Thanks for all the feedback! I’m still undecided. I think our families might be hurt if we told them later rather than now, but I can just imagine the “but did you try” since they’re all part of large families...
@hoffmanr7 I get the work dilemma, too. My coworkers all like to overshare, but I will definitely be sticking with “medical procedure” there. I just don’t love the idea of other people talking about me, I guess.
@kiwi2628 I think it’s awesome you’re that open about it! Courageous for sure!
@hoffmanr7 I’m with you on keeping things quiet at work! Only my two direct supervisors know and one other staff member who I’m good friends with. All my appointments are now just referred to as off site meetings or appointments. Apparently when a young women with no children has a doctors appointment that automatically means you’re pregnant and the rumor mill starts. So I changed how I go about things. Luckily my office only does u/s appointments first thing in the morning so I’m going to be able to not miss a lot of work.
I have my my first u/s and blood work this morning. Start stims on Saturday. I think I’m over my needle fear at this point.
Is anyone using Genesis for PGS testing? I was supposed to get enrollment forms emailed to me but haven’t gotten them yet. It’s been about three weeks but wondering if the holiday has anything to do with it or if they are just slow.
@halfanewt I’m super close to my parents so we told them what was going on when we initially started having trouble over a year ago and they have been super supportive through everything. We decided not to tell DH’s parents because his mother can’t keep her mouth shut so telling her means telling the entire extended family and we didn’t want to risk that. In fact, when his parents came down to visit us this week I actually moved my IVF meds from my fridge to my parents fridge so that his parents wouldn’t ask questions.
AFM: AF arrived last night! I should be starting BCP on CD 3 and then Lupron in 2ish weeks!

@halfanewt I told my bosses at work since I get written up for taking unscheduled days off (I don’t get sick days, even though I work for a hospital, how ridiculous right?) so that they don’t give me crap for coming in late after monitoring and adjusting my time off for my ER. I did take the whole week off when I’m anticipating the ER though. My job is too stressful and I just wanna focus on this. All our family knows except my MIL who we just told on Christmas. She’s super opinionated and rude about things but she handled it a little better than I expected. @kiwi2628 is my hero. I wish I had the courage to go public but I have been living vicariously through you friend!
@beachbunnyxo123 That does sound pretty crazy - no sick days? If I was a sick patient at a hospital I definitely would not want sick staff around. A hospital seems like an employer that should be giving generous sick days!
AFM, I had my CD10 monitoring today. I am trying not to stress but I was hoping for a few more follies in the 1.5-1.6 range at this point. I know I still have some time, so I'm really hoping those smaller follies take off and grow. On my right ovary I have a 1.3, a 1.2, and a 1.1. On my left ovary I have a 1.7, 1.6, 1.6, 1.5, 1.4, 1.4, 1.2, and a 1.0. My left ovary has always been the better producer. My lining is at a 1.2. I can definitely feel my left ovary at all times now and it's getting fairly uncomfortable. I have acupuncture tomorrow so FX that helps things along. The nurse will call to confirm when my blood work is back, but she's thinking that they'll see me again for monitoring on Sunday.

Baseline Ultrasound and labs yesterday went well....everything is right where it needs to be. Starting Stims tomorrow!,
I was excited but now I'm just plain stressed out thanks to work. Like you @beachbunnyxo123 I had intended to take the whole week off of the expected ER just to minimize stress as I too have a very stressful job. That didn't work out because my boss will be on vacation the first half of that week. But still, I had it all worked out. I had extra help planned out on the floor so someone could cover the office a couple of days and then, if the ER fell mid week or later in the week, the only day no one would be in the office would be Wednesday. I had the schedule all ready to go, had the next two weeks all planned out......and wham.
We just lost one of our staff who had to go on medical leave for I don't know how long. I knew it was a possibility, had it all planned just in case but the pain is this weekend. She was, of course, supposed to work this weekend so now I am scrambling to try and get it filled......as well as finishing off a new schedule. I know it will all work out in the end, but it is definitely not how I wanted to start my weekend out. End rant.
I'm starting my 6th ever IVF (got cycle yesterday, went in for baseline today) and just wanted to share a hint with you ladies regarding meds. Order from outside the US. I figured this out for my 4th cycle and wished I'd known sooner! I get mine from Israel but have known others to get them from the UK and Canada. I'd be happy to share where I order from if anyone is curious. They are about 50% cheaper. Same product and manufacturers but different packaging used.
@Roeni I wish I could! My RE only uses a local pharmacy (for people paying out of pocket like me) but at least in my instance it's not as expensive as I expected it to be, only $1,400!

@hoffmanr7 I’m sorry that is so frustrating that your plans got squashed like that. Your time off is for a medical reason too! There are 3 other people on my unit off already for the week and that’s when I told my boss straight up it’s for IVF and I can’t be here, sorry. I shouldn’t have to give a reason but I wanted them to know that no is not an option. Hopefully it all works out for you!
@chox64 Welcome! Not that you're not welcome to participate here, but just FYI there is a January FET thread a few down from this one if you wanted to talk to ladies who are going through the same FET process as you. I hope this cycle works out for you too! GL
@Roeni Welcome to you too! You must be one bad ass lady 6 IVFs is a lot to go through. I'm not even done my first one and I'm already over it! I really hope you find success with your next cycle!

@beachbunnyxo123 I actually haven't confirmed sizing with them! I know at my last clinic where I was doing my IUIs they considered 1.8 cm mature but would count anything over 1.5 as a possibility. I think I've read that with IVF they consider anything over 1.6 mature? Thank you for the reminder to ask!

@beachbunnyxo123 and @tosh24 Thanks. My boss has been super understanding and told me to just still go and take the Monday and Tuesday off that I had planned to do. I'm undecided as to what I"m going to do. That potentially leaves a lot on the plate of the other administrator I work with and me coming back to chaos. The problem with managing an assisted living is it could be really quiet or it could be a zoo....or both in a matter of days and there's no way to predict which it will be. For now I've told myself to just play it by ear and see how things are next week before I make a final decision on what I'm going to do. Maybe I'll come in that Monday and take Tuesday and Wednesday off instead. I'm a bit calmer now that I vented.
@hoffmanr7 I’m glad you’re feeling better after venting. I’m sorry the process of taking time off is so stressful. It’s hard being in a helping/service profession because even if we are gone, the work doesn’t pause; there’s stil people that need help (I’m a teacher).
@tosh24 how many follicles is considered a good responses on cd 10? Is that stims day 10, or overall cd10?
@Roeni welcome! You are a very strong person. Glad you’re here with us. I’d take the name of that overseas med company in case I have to do more than one Ivf.

So I got some bad news today (nothing regarding my IVF tho) I have to have a root canal. I thought I lost a filling yesterday but apparently my tooth broke around an old filling (which apparently isn't super super unusual for composite fillings). I told my dentist that I really would like the root canal and initial crown appointment to occur before I start IVF stuff and thankfully he was able to make it happen! I go in on Jan 8th for the root canal and initial crown appointment (I'll still have to go back for the final crown once it comes in but since I'll have had the root canal they won't need to use any numbing stuff that appointment) which incidentally is the same day I expect AF to show so I'm happy. So even though I have to deal with the root canal and stuff the stress of that shouldn't give me any problems with the IVF.

@hoffmanr7 I totally understand your work dilemma! My boss just left, so now another has stepped in to take over our office but still doing her own. I work in the office alone 3 days a week, so idk what in the heck they are going to do. They all are aware of what I'm about to do, so praying it works out ok. I keep telling my DH that I don't need the extra stress during all of this. I love all the people I work along side, but don't think I haven't thought about quitting to focus on this which I feel is more important Just wish we had an exact day or everything...you guys are the only one's that get the day of ER can vary so much!

Hi everyone I’m new to the Bump, but not new to infertility. I’m so excited to be doing IVF again. I had a surgery to remove polyps in my uterus Dec. 11th and got AF on the 20th & started bc pills the 21st. I have my 1st baseline Wednesday. And drug class Thursday. About my journey; After TTC for 9 years we have 1 amazing daughter from our 3rd IVF. She will be 3 in March and wants a sibling. My SO & I always wanted at least 2 so here we are! Somthing different this time is my age, I’m 40, so my Dr will be doing assisted hatching... kinda makes me nervous but I agreed to it. Good Luck to all the Ladies here!!! So exciting seeing everyone going through different stages of the longgggg IVF process!

@hoffmanr7 How are things going on the Lupron?
AFM, I went in for my CD 7 monitoring today. I have 9-10 follies in the 1.0 - 1.3 range, which I'm happy with at this point. I'm staying on 200 Puregon and 75 Menopur and adding in the ganirelix starting tonight. I'm hoping at least a few more follies pop up by CD 10 on Friday (which is my next monitoring appointment) and the ones I have keep growing. I have an acupuncture appointment tomorrow so hopefully that will help too!

Long story short, for me, yes to telling family about IVF, but going forward I’d prefer not to tell them about the transfers (except I’ll probably tell my parents anyway because I’m close with them and I’d want their comfort if the next one fails).

@hoffmanr7 I get the work dilemma, too. My coworkers all like to overshare, but I will definitely be sticking with “medical procedure” there. I just don’t love the idea of other people talking about me, I guess.

End rant.

@Roeni Welcome to you too! You must be one bad ass lady 6 IVFs is a lot to go through. I'm not even done my first one and I'm already over it! I really hope you find success with your next cycle!
@hoffmanr7 I'm sorry your plan fell through I hope staffing can be worked out so that you are able to rest, stress-free, the week of your ER.

@tosh24 how many follicles is considered a good responses on cd 10? Is that stims day 10, or overall cd10?
@Roeni welcome! You are a very strong person. Glad you’re here with us. I’d take the name of that overseas med company in case I have to do more than one Ivf.

About my journey;
After TTC for 9 years we have 1 amazing daughter from our 3rd IVF.
