Re: January 2018 IVF

  • Question for you guys: Has your RE said if it matters if you get AF before starting stims? I stopped BC on the 28th and start stims on the 2nd. They said it doesn’t matter if I get AF between then. What have you guys been told?

@efavell02 My RE wants me to bleed but if I don't he is not fussed. Its not a period anyway if you were on BC, just a breakthrough bleed, so while its nice to get the old blood out and start with a nice, thin, lining, its not the end of the world if it doesn't happen, or the bleed is minimal. For what its worth, it usually takes me 3-4 days off BC to bleed. Also I stopped BC on the 29th and I start MD lupron on the 2nd, stims on the 3rd, so timing is pretty similar.

  • @efavell02 I second what @kiwi2628 said. Usually it takes me 3-4 days after stopping BCPs to bleed and it’s a super light bleed. Sounds like you still have a little time before the second.

  • @efavell02. I stopped my BCP on Christmas and have been on Lupron since the 19th. I had my baseline Thursday and the nurse asked if I got a period. I told her no and she said some women do and some don’t. My lining was thin on the ultrasound.  I got AF this morning and I start stims tonight. It’s definitely not a usual period. I’m not too concerned. We are doing a FET probably early March so as long as my ovaries are doing what they are supposed to at this point that’s all I really care about.

  • So baselines were today- AFC is 9, which is lower than it should be for my age, and exactly what it was last cycle, so that of course already has me discouraged, but its after 36 hours off BC and I am waiting 3 days to start stims so I have more time to pop up some more. Here's hoping.

@kiwi2628 I’m so sorry you were disappointed! That really sucks.  One thing that’s been helping my mindset when I get down, is something I heard a presenter talk about at a Resolve conference. She called it “positive neutral”. Being overly positive when we don’t know what will happen and being overly negative are both unhelpful. So I try to tell myself things in “positive neutral” like, “this could be different than last time” or “ I’m open to the possibility of this working”. I dunno, maybe it sounds dumb but it’s helped me a lot with all the disappointment and setbacks I’ve experienced along the way in ttc.

  • Hi ladies, I’m new to the board and waited the required 72 hours to post but still can’t update my signature!

Anyway, I will be starting my first IVF cycle on Tuesday. Not sure how to describe my protocol but we’re alternating GonalF and Menopur (see meds calendar).

I’m 36 and dh is 41. I have PCOS. We tried numerous medicated Clomid cycles with timed intercourse then 3 failed IUIs. Tried fourth IUI cycle with femera and no response in November so have been on BCP for six weeks. Just stopped BCP on Thursday and have baseline US and stims on Tuesday. Looking forward to following along in this journey with you all. It’s been a pretty lonely/isolating process since few of my RL friends have gone through infertility struggles.

Happy new new year and good luck to us all!

Welcome @northbeach3 ! We have the same stims start date! There’s a few other people on here that are starting about the same time.

AFM..... got AF today. I don’t know if it’s that or the fact that we start stims tmrw, but I feel super emotional today. (For example, i started crying when my husband told me i bought a gallon of milk at the store when we only needed a half gallon.) I feel like ive done pretty well staying positive and calm leading up to this cycle, but today is harder. Anyone else feeling emotional?

  • @efavell02 my emotions have been okay today but I’ve definitely had my breakdown moments that came from no where. :) I spoke with my sister in law last night and she gave me a good rundown of what to expect. She recommended acupuncture so I made an appointment for Wednesday. I may be more worried about that than shooting myself up! Haha

i spent the day getting the med materials organized and mentally preparing for the new daily routine. As you can see, I’m a bit anal. ;)

Are any any of you ladies doing anything else for your IVF routine? Changes to diet? Walking more? I’m trying to figure out how to best manage the coming weeks.

Anyway, best of luck tomorrow! Can’t believe the big day is finally here.

  • I haven’t changed too much. My RE said try to stay relaxed and calm as much as possible. Stress won’t help, so don’t make any drastic changes that I will have to stress about.

Just a warning that my nurse gave me which is 100% true. If you are taking Menopur it does burn a little when it’s injected and that’s normal. If she wouldn’t have told me I would have thought something was wrong since I can’t feel my other meds.

The Menopur did sting while going in but it wasn't unbearable! It dissipated pretty quickly after taking the needle out. The Ganirelix on the other hand was more uncomfortable,  just FYI. It doesn't hurt going in, but within 30 seconds of taking the needle out it will start burning. And the injection site will likely welt up. It stung and welted less as the days went on,  but the first few nights it's not the most pleasant.

    Edited to fix words....

Had my baseline this morning. Everything looked good they said. AFC was 18. 7 on the right and 11 on the left. The menopur was not fun but bearable. I felt like if I went slower and stopped to let a little disapate before injecting more it was less uncomfortable. Wishing everybody good luck that’s starting soon!

  • @tosh24 so exciting! Lots of mature eggs for you!!

@efavell02 that seems like a good count, right? What shots did you have today?

AFM, all the nerves and butterflies came this morning with my first administration of cetrotide. Couldn’t figure out how to draw without lots of air bubbles so dh had to help. Alsono period for two months has led to some gnarly cramps and, TMI, some very gooey discharge.

My baseline AFC was lower then previous baselines. 9 + 5 today. Had been 11-18 but that was a baseline from a year ago. RE Upped my Gonal F for today and tomorrow from 225 to 375. He called it an “A5” protocol.

Im telling myself “quality” over “quantity”. Let’s go little follies.

@marfi236 You can order your meds wherever you want to order them from! They don't have to order for you...they can give you a hard copy of the rx and you can go anywhere you want :)

@efavell02 I have used town drug store (website is all one word) and many others used IVF Meds dot com and here's to hoping you don't need more than one! BTW I just got delayed until my next cycle due to them closing for a week at the end of January, which doesn't allow me enough time to do a cycle. Pushed into February ugh

  • @Roeni Eh I'd rather support a local small business than worry about saving a couple hundred dollars.  If my total med cost was more than $1400 I'd be more worried about it.

@northbeach3 I think it’s a pretty good count. The nurse said it’s like the high end of average. I took 75 of  Menopur this morning (ouch) and will taken 225 of follistim tonight.

@Roeni I’m sorry about the cycle being pushed back. There’s so much hurry up and wait in this process :(

@tosh24 congrats on the egg count!!

  • @Roeni oh man, that’s the worst. I remember a similar feeling of developing a cyst and having to delay a whole month. All the anticipation to try and to be let down. Well try to find the positive... your body is getting prepped and cleansed.

@tosh24 so amazing! Fertilize little eggs!! Do you mind me asking— what was your baseline AFC?

@efavell02 shot #2 coming up... they upped my dosage from 225 to 375 gonal F! Hope that gives my follies a big boost! Let’s go FSH!

  • @northbeach3 what is cetrotide? Is that similar to lupron? I smiled when  you said the part about the about the air bubbles. You should have seen me with my Menopur shot this morning. I thought I would be a pro after all the follistim during iui. Not so much. I was trying to get the q cap out of its packaging and it flew across the room almost hitting the nurse. Then it took forever to draw it up wihout air bubbles. When I was taking  the cap off the needle I pulled too hard and bent the needle. The nurse had to get a new one. Hopefully tomorrow morning goes better haha because I’ll be on my own at home .

  • @tosh24  yay for 22 eggs!!!

@efavell02. I always get an air bubble in my Menopur and I can never get it out!  I have to call DH for reinforcements and with one flick he gets it out.  I couldn’t help but laugh imagining the q cap almost hitting the nurse :)

After my appointment this morning my RE is increasing me to 150 of Menopur and 450 of Gonal F.  Ugh.

  • @efavell02 also which meds are the q caps for? I got some in my box but don’t remember the nurse discussing those. Is it for menopur? If so, I gotta figure that out before Thursday.

@j1006 what stim day are you on? How’s the growth? I got a dosage bump on the GonalF today too. :)

  • @northbeach3 yeah the q caps are for the Menopur. You take the needle off , put on the cap, put it on the liquid bottle and draw up the liquid, then switch the cap to the powder and push the liquid in. I think the nurse was laughing at me on the inside while watching me struggle to do it.

  • So up until today I was kinda hoping that my cycle would show up early now I'm praying that it doesn't!  I found out today that my grandma's health is declining rapidly and my parents are driving to WI to see her with my sister this weekend (we live in OH so it's about an 8 hour drive) and I really want to go because it may be the last time that we can see her but if my cycle starts any day before Saturday I will have an appointment this weekend :frowning:  So now I'm really hoping that AF comes at 30-31 days like normal!  I'm at CD 28 today so I feel like it could show up anyday!  My mom definitely doesn't want me to miss any appointments to go but it's super hard thinking that I may not get to see her again.
