@btm013 I'm so sorry you're sick too! If I'm not able to keep food and water down today (mine started last night) I will definitely call. I hope you feel better really soon.

@hedgepig Ohh man, since Os already give you a BH, you're likely going to end up with small contractions towards the end of the pregnancy every time you O. Happens to me every time

@hedgepig peeing gives me a BH every time. Sometimes its almost hard to stand up off the pot because everything is cramped down so hard. Haha oh the joys.

Bahaha how is it that I’m just now realizing that the tightness/slight pain I feel right after/during peeing is BH? There’s just too damn much going on down there!
This whole thread is giving me life. Apparently the cramps I thought were BH were not and these other weird sensations I've had are! Thanks for sharing all this knowledge ladies!
Does everyone's doctors here do cervix checks? I don't think my doctor has ever done this for me so I'm curious if this is something I should ask about?
@JJMNO1616 mine did a pelvic at my first appt but not since.
Maybe I'm not calling it the right thing but I keep seeing people post about their lining and how high their uterus is and stuff like that which are things that have never come up in an appointment for me.
@JJMNO1616 do you mean by ultarsound? I have not had a single vaginal exam since my first prenatal visit at 6 weeks, even after some bleeding a couple times. They checked cervix length by ultrasound instead. I guess there is no reason if everything is looking pretty normal?
@JJMNO1616 my doc only does them for me because I’ve had a LEEP procedure for cervical dysplasia (removing pre-cancerous cells). It can cause cervical incompetence so they check to make sure all is good and no interventions are needed. I’m sure there are other reasons to check as well but if there are no indications you need one and haven’t had any procedures in the past I don’t think they are needed/routine.
The only thing my OB has done is measure my belly with a tape from pelvis to top of my uterus... I know what you mean though, I'm not sure about lining/thickness ect. Maybe it's only done for high risk pregnancy??
@JJMNO1616 they do do a cervical check at your anatomy scan via ultrasound, but it isn't standard after your very first exam. Don't worry though, you will get a lot of hands in your hooha during third tri!
@JJMNO1616 Don't ask for one! lol. If you aren't getting one, it's because you haven't been identified as needing one. What you are seeing mentioned on her are people who are getting U/Ss to assess the continence of their cervix and/or uterus checks because of other risk factors (LEEPs, pre-term labor history, history of placenta issues, low placenta fluids, etc). For normal pregnancies, with no history or risk factors, only having the A/S U/S at 20 weeks is completely normal. Not knowing your 'uterine thickness,' or 'cervical length' (or other such things) is a blessing haha.
FTR, the term 'cervical checks' tends to refer to checking dilation towards the end of your pregnancy. They do nothing other than stick a finger up there and tell you if you've started dilating (36+ weeks) and honestly it just causes anxiety (at least for me since for the past two pregnancies I measured 1cm every appt from 36-40 weeks until labor actually started and things started progressing for me. It's demoralizing to thing your body isn't progressing... which is silly cuz it doesn't matter until labor starts).

@JJMNO1616 Are you talking about when they know if they're thinning and dilated at all, etc? I remember people always talking about that and I'm like...how do you know this all the time? They'd get checked at their appts. I asked about that this time bc I do nottt want cervical checks. They freakin' hurt! The only time I had them was during labor, lol.
@ladythrice What you explained makes a lot of sense to me now.
@psuxray07 I think I called it the wrong thing! I was referring to how women know their uterine thickness or cervical length... my doctor has never mentioned any of this to me!
@JJMNO1616 they nornally don’t start checking for cervix/dilation until the end - as @ladythrice mentioned. But also keep in mind that you can refuse them. I did until my 39 week appointment. I’m a big baby and hated being checked - especially during labor. It’s shocking how far up they go haha. I mean they REALLY get in there.

Yeah, getting checked is never fun or comfortable... but during labor?! Ugh, that shit is SUPER painful!

Only check was a pelvic at my first appointment at 6-7 weeks. The only other time was an internal u/s at my anatomy scan to get more detailed pictures of my cervix for partial previa.
@JJMNO1616 we used Burt Bees Diaper Cream and California Baby Diaper Cream. I liked California Baby better. We rarely had to use them but definitely good to have on hand!
I refused all my cervix checks at the end of my first pregnancy too.
I was wondering the same thing @JJMNO1616 , they didn't mention anything about checking my cervix during the a/s but maybe they did and just didn't mention it?
They did measure my cervix at my a/s. I didn’t remember them doing that with my daughter 6 years ago so I thought maybe protocol changed? It was the same nightmare tech that INSISTED on the dildo cam last time despite telling her she didn’t need it (and being right). I am high risk but have no issues with my cervix or any risk factors related to it. Now I’m seriously wondering...

@JJMNO1616 My midwife did an internal check to feel my cervix at 12ish weeks, then they looked at the A/S (I assume), and that's it so far for me. Seems pretty normal

@Mattel it could be you just weren't told that your cervix was being measures with your first. It is completely standard procedure with the A/S. A lot of women are weirdly freaked out by their vaginas, so some techs don't mention the "ladybits" part of the scans.
@mattel my mfm did the same thing at the anatomy scan. Took a nice picture of it and just put long cervix to send to her. I am guessing they checked it with my first but I didn't ask questions or pay close enough attention to it.
@JJMNO1616 Mine does them after 36 or 37 weeks. They are elective though. The check can give you insights to progression, but also really aren't a good indicator for labor. I've walked around 3 cm dilated for weeks and still got induced. Some individuals don't like doing the check because it introduces bacteria to the area. It is really up to you if you want to do them.
Glad to hear it, @btm013! I'm better - still running a fever and body aches but holding food and water down - but my 18 month old son has been sick since Sunday and is just getting worse, so it looks like I'm taking him to the doctor today.

Ugh, I've never really been crampy at this stage of pregnancy, but I'm super crampy today. Has anyone else experienced this? I have gotten crampy towards the end of my pregnancies... but not in the middle. I went for a walk and it disappeared, but as soon as I sit down it starts back up.

@JJMNO1616 I started getting cervical checks when I started having contractions at 34 weeks with DS. They checked every week after that because I kept progressing and my doctor wanted to keep track of it. I think I was 3 or 4 cm dilated and 90-100% effaced at the last appointment before DS was born. We were relieved when we made it to 37 weeks and he managed to stay in for a couple more weeks after that, he was only 5 days early.
@ngolimento and @rklinge0 I think i was surprised because it was transvaginal. I’m certain they didn’t do anything transvaginally my first beyond about 8 or 9 weeks.

With DD, I was crampy more towards the beginning and middle of the pregnancy than at the end. This pregnancy, I didn't really get any cramping in first tri but, I've noticed some cramping in the past several weeks too. I had a day the other week where it was pretty bad and I was like, "WTH body??" I think anything can be "normal" as far as when it happens though, unless there's a ton of pressure or bleeding with them. I'd say just keep up with the hydration and whatever else makes them feel better to you.
Yesterday at my A/S they measured my cervix and said it was "long and closed". So that's the first time the doctor has ever said anything to me about that but it seems like everything is going well!
@ladythrice with DS’s pregnancy I wasn’t crampy until the very end. This time, I feel like I’m gestationing a baby giraffe. Everything fucking hurts, I get cramps, and aches and pelvic pain. I don’t know if my ligaments are just weak and don’t like the whole 2 pregnancy in 2 years but it’s not the same thing at all
@ladythrice this whole pregnancy i have been crampy.
Tw I wasn't this crappy with my miscarriage pregnancy last year. End tw
@danjoly what you said makes lots of sense, I have been pregnant at some point throughout the year since 2014, so it could have done a number on my body.
