OK guys, this is gross. I know pregnancy makes you more prone to runny noses and nasal issues. But every time I blow my nose (specifically in the morning), the size of snot is huge. It comes from deep in there. My husband can be across the room and hear it. Sounds like a rocket firing out. ITs both disgusting and amazing. I’ll be honest though, I don’t hate it haha.
Not so disgusing, I noticed some Braxton Hicks already. They aren’t painful, just the tightening kind. Goes away when I sit down and have some water. But I thought it was too early! Apparently, it’s not though. I’ve been reading up on it. I have my anatomy scan tomorrow so I’ll mention it.
@btm013 This is your second baby, right? I've been having more BH (and noticed them earlier) than I did with DD too. Apparently (per Dr. Google) the BH can show up sooner and be more frequent with second and subsequent pregnancies.
@btm013 I’ve been having them since 13 weeks. I asked my doctor and he said they’re totally normal and it just depends on if the person can feel them or not. He suggested making sure I’m properly hydrated and not overdoing it, but that it’s ok as long as they’re not painful contractions like labor.
My own question: DD will be 3.5 when the baby is born. I have all of her newborn clothes stored in vacuum bags and storage totes in our guest room. They were washed before I put them away to store. Do I need to rewash them?
Weirdly enough, I had BHs really early with my first pregnancy, and am sailing through just fine so far with this one. I don't want to jinx myself, but the last time I had BHs daily from 25 weeks onwards with my DD and I am really hoping it won't be that way again.
I really hated them, because they screwed with my mind as a ftm. I had no idea what labor contractions felt like, so I was constantly worried my that extremely frequent and constant contractions were warning signs.
@JJMNO1616 Thank you for asking this. This has been on my mind this weekend.. Every little twinge and tightening is making me nervous. I just feel like I don't know what's normal as FTM.
Ok this is unrelated to pregnancy, but has anyone here ever used a GoFundMe account or anything similar? My family is wanting to start one for us for the medical and relocation costs we are going to incur. It's hard for me to accept money, but I think in this case we will need to ask for help. I just didn't know if there was a particular site that was better to use or anything like that?
This may be a stupid question but if I have BH will I for sure know that’s what is happening or could I confuse them for something else?
Not Stupid! I was plagued by the same question. For me, BHs were very similar to extremely early labor, except for infrequent(ish) and unorganized. I would have 3 hour stints of contractions that would sometimes get 5 minutes apart, but then wander into disorganized patterns from there. It drove me insane with worry.
A good rule of thumb is if your contractions don't hurt and are disorganized, they are BHs.
This may be a stupid question but if I have BH will I for sure know that’s what is happening or could I confuse them for something else?
BH, for me, felt/feel totally different than anything that went on when I was in labor with DD, aside from uterine tightening. IMO, I don't think it would be easy to confuse them with anything else that could be going on in your body either- like gas, RLP, etc. As a FTM, I didn't recognize them right away, but got more familiar with the feeling later in my pregnancy. Your uterus just gets hard and the whole thing, particularly the fundus, can be easy to feel (depending on your body type) from the outside, by laying a hand on your abdomen. For me, they last about a minute or so and then the tightening/hardness dissipates. I agree that they don't/shouldn't hurt. Though, depending on your tolerance for such things, they may feel a tiny bit uncomfortable.
Yeah, everything @kbamomma33 said. For me they were completely different than labor pains. BHs were/are always a tightening and hardening of my uterus — not painful, but uncomfortable. I noticed them during my first pregnancy around 25ish weeks, mostly when I was walking and my bladder was full. Then they increased in frequency the closer I got to my due date. They got so frequent with both pregnancies that I convinced myself that labor wouldn’t be that bad, because hey, BH were manageable! Yeah, no. Labor was still hell.
I have been having BH since week 14 with this pregnancy and was told last pregnancy I had a irritable uterus so I totally expected it again. That being said, I also had preterm labor last pregnancy at 32 weeks that felt exactly like Braxton Hicks but was going on for hours. It wasn’t painful at all but we decided to go in after 3h of regular Bh. Turns out I was 2cm dilated and had to get the shots for the lungs + they stopped labor with meds. Rule of thumbs, if drinking 80oz of water + hot bath doesn’t stop them, better go get checked out. if I keep my water intake around 90oz I usually can avoid them. @JJMNO1616 it’s pretty obvious when it happens, your uterus gets hard all over and it feels like someone is pulling your skin tightly. The only time I was mistaken was when DS was bigger and he would flip and pull his butt out. The uterus would feel stretched but usually not hard all over
My own question: DD will be 3.5 when the baby is born. I have all of her newborn clothes stored in vacuum bags and storage totes in our guest room. They were washed before I put them away to store. Do I need to rewash them?
Im in a similar boat. But my first will be almost 4. I would rewash them. Especially the newborn clothes. Depending on a lot of factors, but mainly spit up, they can turn yellow just sitting in a bag for a few years. So I would check them and do a quick wash cycle on them before hand. That way they are also nice and fresh
@tooraloorah I wash again because I feel like the clothes smell like plastic. Now if you avoided that then tell me your secret!! If all smells fine to you then honestly I probs wouldn't wash again.
I'm so happy to see all the other moms experiencing BH already. I thought I was going BSC for a second. It sucks having them, but so happy to see that I'm not alone. This is my third and at times I swear my mind puts me in first-timer mode.
QQ for all you STM's who have a boy...do you have any diaper changing tips or bathing tips? I have heard getting peed on is a thing I get to look forward to. How do I minimize the golden shower on baby boy and me?
@angiek1 I don’t have a son but I have boy Mom friends that SWEAR by the pee pee teepee. Or even something as simple to a washcloth until just before you close the diaper.
Has as anyone else experienced extreme motion sickness while pregnant? I had it with my daughter but (like everything else) has come much sooner this time. I even get it when I drive!
Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!
@angiek1 I come to say the opposite as @Mattel(sorry friend ) You don’t need pee pee teepee!! Any washcloth or wipes can work but tbh it really happened a couple of times to us in the early days when he was to get cold or when we were cleaning major poop explosion and had to keep the diaper opened for long. I usually just put th new diaper under him, open the dirty one, quick wipe (especially just for pee diapers, boys are way less at risk of UTI and easier to clean than girls) and then pull the old one and cover! I say one thing that did happened often at the beginning that I didn’t see coming was orienting his penis down in the middle, otherwise he would pee out of the diaper!
So next week I have my 20 week appointment. They didn't say anything about an A/S or sending me to the ultrasound people. We went at 12 weeks but my OB does a US every visit, but isn't 20 weeks when you get the A/S? With DD we scheduled an US appointment then a reg OB appointment right after at 20 weeks but this time I only have one appointment.
@angiek1, I’m with @danjoly — I don’t really think there’s any secret to changing diapers with boys. It was only the very early days that it happened and we just kinda embraced the pee, lol. He managed to hit our TV a few times, which was impressive Change diapers as fast as possible and just know that urine is sterile, so if he pees in the tub it might be gross, but not a huge health hazard!
@angiek1, we didn't use anything special for diaper changing with DS. We had some cloth wipes handy and just used those to block pee while we changed him, and he only peed during diaper changes in the very early days, after a few months is didn't happen anymore. @danjoly is spot on though, the one thing I didn't know and learned the hard way is that you have to point the penis downward when you're putting on the new diaper. There were a couple times when DS peed all over his stomach and clothes and had a completely dry diaper.
@angiek1 dd actually peed on me more than ds did lol! Wash cloth or wipe to cover at first is a good precaution. It wasn’t until we started potty training that I got the lovely “golden shower” lol
@angiek1 we used the peepee teepees all the time. I found the good ones are the ones with Terry cloth inside. It was like a guarantee that DS was gonna pee once you took off the diaper like 90% of the time, and it lasted a little while, not just the beginning for us, lol.
I liked peepee teepees but agree they're not actually necessary. A washcloth works just fine too. DS peed at nearly every diaper change for a very long time (when he was about a year old he thought it was really funny to do it on purpose, ugh) so I definitely needed something to cover every time. And I second pointing the penis down. It really is the only way to prevent leaks.
I had BH w both my girls around 13w. This time they didn't start until 17w i think. The biggest difference i noticed w BH and the real deal is w BH only a portion of my belly would tighten. W real contractions it was the whole thing. They also become more frequent and more intense if real like others said.
Honestly i hope my water breaks like it did w dd2. Yes it made a mess bc it was a full on movie-style gush but i also knew it was time.
@Mattel at times i can get severe motion sickness. A lot of times it comes from looking at my phone when DH is driving (this is normal non-pregnant me as well but it is worse and happens faster now). Other times it comes from something i ate before we hit the road. I never had this w my daughters. It's a first for me.
My own question: DD will be 3.5 when the baby is born. I have all of her newborn clothes stored in vacuum bags and storage totes in our guest room. They were washed before I put them away to store. Do I need to rewash them?
DS will be 3.5 also and all of his clothes are in vacuum sealed bags or storage totes. I was just thinking about this the other day. I think I'm at least rewashing the newborn and 0-3 month stuff. I'll see from there how the clothes look and smell.
I've had BH this pregnancy too but didn't really experience it with my first. I was also worried how I'll know the difference between BH and preterm labor since my labor started out so not regular.
@angiek1 honestly DS never really peed on us?? Maybe like 5 times total. I just always have the diaper ready and don't let it all hang out too long haha
AFM - anyone else finding themselves increasingly klutzy? I don't remember being this accident prone last time
Thank you @bchalm and @Mattel. I'm 19+3 and haven't felt anything. I felt DS1 at 17 weeks and DS2 At 15 weeks. I was getting a bit worried but knee it would happen later with an anterior placenta.
@MrsF1017 I have one this time around. I felt faint rolling movements a couple times around 16 weeks, but no true jabs until recently (I'm in week 20). They're still rare though and I usually have to be sitting with my feet up.

@peppersmith22 YES it happens to me every time I’m pregnant and it’s one of the things I dislike most about pregnancy. I just feel like an uncoordinated mess — dropping things constantly, running into doorframes and tables, it’s so frustrating. I’m bruised all the time.
@btm013 You can add me to the early BH club. Very reassuring to hear so many people are having them already even though our OB said it's nothing to worry about. Mine started at 16 weeks and happen everyday now, somedays more frequently than others, but he said as long as there isn't pain or a pattern not to be concerned. Baby always kicks like crazy after them though hah
@kmalls glad it's not just me! I slid down 4 stairs Saturday, then ran into a wall on Sunday, and keep dropping things. I don't know if it's tiredness or hormones or what but it's annoying
@peppersmith22 Ugh yes. It was really bad my first pregnancy and just started up this time in past couple of weeks. At first I couldn't figure out why I kept dropping/running into things but then it was like, oh yeah I remember this. I'm clumsy anyway though, so I don't think anyone else notices how much worse it is when I'm pregnant.
@MrsF1017 With DS I had an anterior placenta and didn't feel any movement at all until like 24 or 25 weeks, and even then only faintly for quite some time. At my a/s I found out I have one this time, too, but I've been able to feel this LO much earlier. I think she just moves around more in general--so I'm starting to wonder how much AP actually has to do with it and how much depends on where/how the baby moves.

Last pregnancy, I had to go to the hospital twice with falls
The first was when My toe got caught In the string of the drawstring Capri pants I was wearing and I fell halfway on my stomach on the floor.
The second time was much worse. I was walking up the stairs and tripped. My stomach full out went into the stairs.
It turned out to be fine both times, but yeah, your whole center of gravity is off!!
