Have you already chosen a name? (share if your comfortable) Not really. We'd had a girl name picked out for a while now, but boy names are a lot harder for us.

Honest question: any visceral reaction to the name Holden Peter?

What names on on your list/what names were on your list before you decided? I've got a small list going, most of which just happen to be English monarchy names lol.

What app/site do you most use when looking for names? The Social Security website. I'm trying REALLY hard to make sure our kid doesn't end up with a top 10 name.

What names on on your list/what names were on your list before you decided?  I REALLY like the name Isla, but DH hates it. I also really love Lachlan (I love Scottish names).

What app/site do you most use when looking for names?  I forgot the name of it...that's not helpful!

We've chosen a name! Her name will be Mia Rae. That middle name is way out of the box for us, but my husband loves it and he rarely pushes for anything, so Rae it is!

We didn't use an app, just googled names lists and tried to pick one that would flow pretty well with her siblings. DS is Owen Michael and DD is Anna Charlotte.

If we have a girl we are naming her Isla, except it might not be spelled that way. DH really likes to spell it Isla I want to spell it Eila or Ilah.

@lund I love the name Holden! Being completely honest, though "Holden Peter" sounds a little, er, naughty to me. But I have the mind of a twelve-year-old-boy, so take that with a grain of salt.

Our girl names are down to Nora and Catherine (Kate for short). I like both but I'm slightly partial to Catherine/Kate, whereas DH is pretty dead-set on Nora.

I'm avoiding picking a boy name because DH and I are in complete disagreement. He's always wanted to name a son Russell, after his grandpa. I like the name Russell, but my oldest son is Jack. Anyone else think Jack and Russel call to mind the dog breed? Or am I over-thinking it?

Not yet. We were waiting to find out the sex before having any name discussions. Just found out today it's a girl so I'm excited to start making some lists.

So, my DS is Max and I love the name Ruby for a girl. There's a series of books titled Max and Ruby so I'm feeling a little conflicted about the name but DH basically said "F_ck it."

If it were a boy, I was going to lobby for middle name Graham. My brother has three boys and I have one. We've gone through grandfathers' and great grandfathers' names as middle names. My nephews and son call my mom Gram so I thought middle name Graham would be a cute nod to her. (Incidentally, I love the name Theodore. And then realized that Theodore Graham would essentially be Teddy Graham. So.)

I just like a good old-fashioned paperback name book from the library

Our kids currently are Adelaide, Emilia and Jack. If it's a girl, I like Annalise and Marian (nod to my grandmother, Mary). If it's a boy, I really don't know... DH and I are not in agreement.

Thank you, @kaymaroo! I LOLed about your Jack Russel comment. It probably would make me think of the dog breed, but they're both great names and if you and DH both actually agree on them I wouldn't let it stop me. Agreeing on names is So. Hard.

For a girl, we are set on Helena Sharon. Love the name Helena, but her nickname would be Laney. And Sharon is after DH's grandmother. Totally undecided on boy names. I like Cameron, Jonas, or Jon. DH likes Tyler and Dylan. I want to use DH's first name (Matthew) for the middle name.

Ooo, maybe I can pick your brains, since I feel like drive-bying the names forum would be a dick move. I am desperately trying to figure out a smart-sounding girl name. Bonus points if it can be broken down into a smaller name if my kid later decides they hate their full name.

I kind of blew all my girl name-karma on my first daughter, and I'm at a loss. So far we have:

Elizabeth
Isabelle
Anastasia

None of the above have captured my heart yet

So glad you've started this thread. We are so stuck. I am waiting for that "feeling" with a name. I've had several "ah ha" moments with boy names but DH has rebuked them all. I am unbelievably picky when it comes to girl names. I like traditional vs. trendy, but I also don't want to sound like I am naming a future Senator's wife.

If it is a boy his first name will be Clive. Apparently the name is going extinct, but it sounds really good with our last name. Plus, Clive Owen is pretty cool.

My app keeps cutting my response off, but a great site is babynamewizard. You can see how popular a name is, see what other names the site says pair well together and users respond to what they think of when they hear a name. I've used it for my other two children.

Edit: App is annoying. Finishing thought.

@kaymaroo @g_amoss ok that's exactly what I wanted to check - if anyone else thought of that LOL. I like the name Holden, and I'd love to use my father's middle name, which is Peter, but obviously they don't go together - even if I reverse it to Peter Holden (ok now I'm cracking up LOL)

@ngolimento I really like Victoria! And, I have no idea if you're into old fashioned names, but I think Edith sounds very distinguished and intelligent. Or maybe that's my Downton Abbey addiction talking. Totally won't be offended if you hate it!

For a boys name, I love Charles. I think we're settled on that.
For girls names, I love the name ruby but my husband isn't nuts about it. Other girl names are: Vivian, Katherine and Alice
Our DS's name is Henry so I feel like we need a name that's equally regal haha.
Regardless of the gender, the middle name will be Martin after my father. My husbands against that for a girl but I will prevail!!!

My son is Kade Scott. I think we are set on names already....which is weird bc it took us like 2 seconds, lol. If it's a boy, he will be Kent Aaron. If it's a girl, she will be Kassie Rose.

Jace was a boy name I was strongly considering.

I googled names, but none of my names came from online, lol.

Ooo there are some great names on here!!
If it's a girl, we're pretty set on Rosalie. We're stuck on boys names (not good because DHs family produces boys). I really like Callum but DH isn't sold on it. He really likes Weston, which I don't mind but I have a hard time seeing it on a little boy or a baby. It's a great name for adults though!

Other names that that have been on our list but have now been vetoed are: Carrick, Merrick, Harrison, Oliver, Calder, Cormac, Maren, Ainsley, Veda, and Everly.

We love the nameberry website- especially the "similar names" feature and the feature where you can add in names you like and it gives you a new list based on the other ones you like.

@sparklingdiamond I have never heard the name Lachlan before! Isla is a really nice name imo.

This is just the only name we have been able to agree on. Charles is definitely going to be the middle name though. We have nothing for girls yet so I almost kind of hope we have a boy lmao but if it is a girl the middle name will probably be Jean because that's my middle name and my grandmother's name.

What app/site do you most use when looking for names? We have been using the Babyname app which basically works like Tinder. Swip left if you don't like the name and right if you do. Once you both match on a name it sends you a notification. We have zero matches so far

To be fair, I have the mind of a 12 year old boy. But to me, Peter is a slang word for penis. And you put Holden in front of it, you've got, "Holding Penis"

I like Holden by itself. I wouldn't put Peter after it.

@Dumbgurl04 I'm a Morgan and I've always liked my name! There weren't many others when I was growing up, and it's technically unisex so you could use it for a boy. I would've been Morgan either way, only the middle name would've changed

As for us, we are going with Connor Thomas. Thomas was my late father in law and Connor was the one we both liked a lot and could agree on. I wanted Griffin and DH wanted Zachary and we vetoed each other lol. If it had been a girl it was Savannah Kate or Savannah Kathryn. I love all the names you all are sharing!

I also used Pinterest for name hunting.

@lund I LOVE Holden and had that on our boy list for a while too, but I confess I agree with others that Holden Peter might set him up for some schoolyard teasing. Kids can be so cruel

@lund, you're killing me with Holden Peter!!! But seriously, I love the name Peter and don't think it gets used often enough, so if you can't use the names together, I vote towards using Peter.

We had names for 2 girls - Hattie (Harriet) and Harper. We are having at least one boy, so Harper dropped off. DH thinks 2 boys are Seger and Jagger - I can’t do it, one, sure, not both. Hopefully we have one of each lol!

Girl names were easier for some reason.. Ella, Josephine, Mia, Lauren, Clair. Boys - Murray, Henry, Liam, Ethan, Benjamin

Seriously, so many good names have been suggested on this thread. I love all of the old-fashioned, classic names.
For a girl, we've settled on Mathilde Marigold.
We're a bit stuck on boys names. My husband loves Booker and Isaac and Warren, but I don't feel an immediate attachment to any of those. I wonder if a Booker would be teased for having a name that sounds like booger?

I love the name Isaac! It was one of my top choices for boy names.

We have no front runners.

Boys names on the list but we don't love to pull the trigger. Any suggestions of similar nature welcome. Wesley, Lincoln, Logan, Carson, Bryce, Bryson, Tristan, graham, Sawyer, Britton, Chandler

Girls names are tough for me. I have a Reagan now and don't care to be matchy but like the unisex/not as girly type names.

Just beainsorming on a list for now.

@lund DS's name is Peter and I honesty never heard the euphemism until we were considering naming him that and my husband told me. I don't think it's nearly a small prevalent as Dick or even Willie. Holden Peter is cute! Plus to all the people saying kids will make fun of him: how many kids are really going to know his middle name?

@Dumbgurl04 my dh doesn't see the big deal. I grew up though with my sister Chelsea and even though I was named Kathleen I have always gone by Katie. So every time a name was called it was "was that Katieeeee or Chelseeeeea?". Oliver is called Ollie by the majority so DH sees no issue. So torn. Guess it's a good thing I still have 6 months.
