@hudson202 and @kbrinks2 i guess it's just more of a personal preference. I don't mind family names, but to me it's not really honoring it if you don't want your child to go by it.
It was just an unnecessary strain to me. Every year at school to correct the teacher, every announcement to make sure they know, every ID check, every legal anything. I know some don't mind but to me it just seems like an unneeded pain.
Oh I never said it was easy!! I went to a pretty small elementary school growing up so they just had the name that I go by on their attendance! High school was different! I had to correct teachers and any time we had a sub they thought I was making up a fake name! I could never imagine going by Katherine now and I LOVE my name!! No one, not even my parents have ever called me by Katherine but it was my Great Aunts name! It is a hassle when going to the doctors, getting prescriptions, calling about bills etc!
We found out we are having a boy to add to our family, along with DD. We are stoked because we really wanted one of each- but I literally cannot figure out a boy name I even kind of like. So...let the name board cruising begin!
We have picked a name, and now I'm terrified one of my pregnant friends will use it first. Part of me wants to announce the name, but last time we picked a name and at the last minute changed our minds. And I know I can still use it if someone else uses it, but it's very unique name, and I'm worried it willlooklike we copied them! Okay. I'm hormonal. It official. Lol.
What's thT website where you can see the popularity rating for the last few years?
Now that I know we're having a boy I want to see where our picks rank. Ideally nothing in the top 40

@Aeml1985 no I have no idea. I have my anatomy scan on 10/3 so I'll find out then. I'm hoping for a boy, but if it's a girl we will probably use a leftover name from when I had DD.

I have the exact same fear! We live in a very (very) small town (population less than 800), so if someone uses my top girl name before me I don't feel like I will be able to use it. And of course the popularity skyrocketed recently - I think it's #1 in Canada now.
Our boy names aren't super popular, so I am not concerned there.
**Charlotte Mae is our top girl name. Both are family names so I would really like to use it! I didn't expect Charlotte to get so popular lol!
our top boy name right now is Silas William (William after my oma Wilma).

Love Henry, but hate Hank which is apparently the nickname for Henry, which my DH is insisting he will usr of we pick Henry.
So sweet to name him William after your Oma!
Hank is an awful nick name. How is that even derived from Henry?
I was was super close to my oma, she taught me how to cook, bake, sew, crochet and garden.

I have a Henry. I think I threatened my ex DH's friend at my baby shower when he referred to the baby as hank.
And now I call him hanky. Never rule anything out. I love Henry and everyone calls him Henry so when people occasionally call him hank it doesn't bother me.
@Aeml1985 I love love love Everett. It's been my top boy name since DS1, but DH vetoed it. Tried to get it in the running again for DS2, but no dice. Love your other name choices as well!
@SunflowerMama428 - We call our Henry "Hanky" very, very rarely. My mom started calling him Hanky-spank when he was a young toddler and still does on occasion. But he's Henry 99% of the time.

My husband is the 4th Henry (all with different middle names) and he goes by Hank. I love the name Henry and would love to keep it going but there are two Henrys under 5 in the cousin network already and over my dead body will he be a Hank, Jr.
Any great middle name suggestions for Audrey? I like Mae, Rose, Grace, and Brooke but DH isn't really a fan of any of those. Mae is my favorite option so I'm still not letting it die but maybe there are some others I haven't considered. I have looked for days and I'm out of ideas.

I like Audrey Dawn!
But I am a little biased since that is my and my mother's middle name lol. I wish I could get DH on board with Audrey, I think it's such a beautiful, classic name.
@winnie1122 I like Audrey Mae and Audrey Grace. Both are so pretty--but Audrey is a classic name, so whatever you choose will be beautiful!
UO here...but I don't mind the nn Hank lol. Like, Henry was on my list for DS--but I wanted to call him Hank (although I have no idea how that is a nn for Henry). DS has a name that most people dislike--so maybe I have poor name choices
This got me thinking... since we're having a boy we're gonna use my dad's name as his middle name to remember him (he passed away last summer). I just realized it'll be almost identical to my nephew's middle name lol. My nephew's middle is my brother's first name (which was a derivative of my dad's name). Think Roberto and Robert. So nephew is Evan Robert, and our kiddo will be Luke Roberto. Not weird since they'll go by first names, right?

Not weird. My niece has the same middle name that we will use if we ever have a girl down the road.
@clc515 You only hear someone's middle name when they graduate and when they're in trouble so I wouldn't worry. It's nice to honor your dad that way.

My ex-SIL used her maiden name for BOTH her sons' middle names. So, brothers with the same middle name. I always liked that.

I love how my family does this and I didn't even think of this point. My brother and I have our mom's maiden name as our middle name (at least until I changed my name after getting married), and my middle name now and my kid's middle name are my maiden name.

Is Parker more of a girl name these days? We are having a boy and Parker Alexander is one of our favorite names, along with Max Austin, but I keep meeting girls named Parker.
I think my baby should be an Ivan. It's the only name I've loved so far and felt right. Dh is campaigning for Rhett , Otis, Landon and a few others. His most recent suggestion was Virgil... We are still looking for just the right name, although I might just give in to Rhett. The middle name is going to be Brown, it's his father's middle name, and paternal grandmothers maiden name. I tried to get him to go with his maternal grandfathers name Heinrich and use Henry for a nickname and he didn't like that idea.
I kinda feel since I've already got to name lots of babies and this is his only one he sound get a bigger say on the name, but then again, it's also my child and the one time i backed down with my ex my daughter got a name i pretty much hate and wish she had something better.

My son and my two nephews all have William (My dads first name) as a middle name! My son and my one nephew have two middle names but all three of them have William as their first middle name. I am 99% sure whenever my brother has a son he will name him William. He is also named after my dad but goes by Billie. I didn't even think twice about having the same middle name! We obviously love our dad and all wanted to honour him! If you want to honour him I think it is a lovely idea!!
I thought I had settled on a name but every time I hear H say it it doesn't sound right. What does sound right is the same name my coworker gave his son, except his son's whole name is the nickname while I'll use the full name (like Chris vs. Christopher). I realized my only hang up on the name is this coworker's kid, a kid I never see, a coworker I never hang out with outside of work and who never talks about his kid at work. So why am I/was I so hung up on this?

Off of the Hank convo.... DH wants Frank for a boy, even though we both don't really like Frank (I probably like it less). It was his grandfather's name. I could compromise with Franklin as a middle name, but I'm having trouble thinking of first names that go with Franklin. Thoughts?
@babybro218 My favorite boss's name was James Franklin. Thinking more 'traditional' names will sound good with it... Joseph, Eli, Miles, John. You can be funny and call him Benjamin Franklin :-D
Edited cuz I just reread you were asking for first names lol.
@eggplantface That's me with our top name right now. My only reservation about it is that a girl I went to high school with named her daughter Audrey and we had our first babies at the same time so we interact on social media about kids sometimes. But other than very few online interactions I will literally never see this person in real life again and we're not really friends, so it's I'm trying to get over the reservation about using the name. I just hate thinking that she will think we 'stole' the name. Which I'm sure is silly!
