@babybro218 My favorite boss's name was James Franklin. Thinking more 'traditional' names will sound good with it... Joseph, Eli, Miles, John.
You can be funny and call him Benjamin Franklin :-D

Edited cuz I just reread you were asking for first names lol.
Lol! Benjamin Franklin would be extra funny because I teach American History ;)

  • @eggplantface and @winnie1122 If there are no other ties to coworker and fb friend I wouldn't worry about the same name thing. Same thing happened in my work place and the first mom was saying the second mom "stole" her name. Fast forward 6 months and only one of them still works there and the kids live in different school districts. Also the name was Emma, so I doubt they are the only 2 around IYKWIM.
  • I get what you mean about the co-worker thing. A Co-orker that I worked with 3 years ago named thier daughter Juliet. She will be 2 when baby gets here. I can't get past it though because I do see them still on occasion at my daughter's taekwondo classes. It's not even like our children would be in the same grade. I think it is because the name is not all that common around here so people would assume I copied or something ( as if that really matters).

Full disclosure, it was my girl name 3 years ago when I had my son, so before so worked daughter was even born but it doesn't matter, I can't get past the fact that we used to be coworkers

  • The only girl name i do like - Anaya - was just used by DH's cousin. She had no idea we had a name picked out in case we have a girl. We still don't know what we're having but I dont seem to like any names at the moment. DS's name is Caleb so I would like to pick a name starting with "C" for 2nd baby as well.
  • Since we now know our little peanut is a little boy.
We are naming him Declan Jack.
Declan cuz I've had that name chosen for 4 years, while we were ttc and DH is finally onboard with it. I'm so glad cuz I wasn't gonna budge on that one.
Jack cuz he will be named after his paternal grandfather! And it's a classic, strong name. It's just perfect.

  • @MrsM00re87 - love the name Declan. We named our son Declan Patrick.
  • @msunshine123 me too. I find picking a boys name can be challenging. I have loads of girls names picked out. Took me a long time to be sold on a boys name. Something about those Irish boy names. I just love them.

Is Parker more of a girl name these days? We are having a boy and Parker Alexander is one of our favorite names, along with Max Austin, but I keep meeting girls named Parker.
I have a preschool student named Parker, and he's a boy.  I've only ever seen it used that way in person.  While I could see it being versatile, I don't think people would assume girl. :)

I teach a Parker and he is a boy! I don't think I know any Parker who is a girl! I would say if you love the name, then go for it!!
  • I know a girl and a boy named Parker.  It works for both of them.
  • Taking all of the celestial and nature name suggestions! Here are some things we have:
    lyra
    vega
    orion
    celeste
    archer
    leo

    tulip
    azalea
    viola/violet

    Other random ideas:
     jordan (fam name)
    hazel (fam name)
    casey
    miles

The last name starts with S, two syllables, with a hard sound to it. Sort of like Sklandar (ish). Any help, ideas, thoughts are welcome. We are both indecisive. We also both have fairly traditional American first names but we're weirdos at heart and I think both lean towards untraditional. Yet don't want to name the kid Space Cadet. We have chosen team green and will not find out boy or girl until the big day.

    TIA! :)

  • We agreed on Roman Pierce for a boy months ago, so naturally we are having a girl.

we are having a hard time agreeing, current contenders are
    Harper
    Colette
    Gwendolyn
    Emelia

    middle names
    Quinn (after my husband)
    Jean (after my grandmother)
    Grace
    Rose

  • @GoogleMD my best friend's daughter is Harper Quinn. She totally stole it from me. I LOVE that name.

What about Lucy (light), Rose, or Lilly for a girl?
  • @mblomq2
Other nature-y girl names: Meadow, Holly, Ivy, Brooke, Lark, Skye ... and Summer, River, Willow or Dawn (shout out to Joss Whedon fans!)

My husband loves that name, but it kind of reminds me of Harley Quinn
  • Found a boys name we both really like, Beau! only it starts with a B. We already have 2 girls that start with a B, and I've been purposefully avoiding any same initials after the issues with initializing clothes,  but somehow forgot about the letter B... also his middle name which has already been decided starts with a B.  Is that weird? Should we keep looking?

  • @mamaof5already if you like the name just do it. Don't put to much stress on it. I haven't heard my middle name since I turned 18 and I doubt DH even remembers what it is. Lol

I think Harper flows well with all of your middle name options.
Gwendolyn Grace sounds matchy, but you could nickname GG.
    I have an Amelia, so I’m biased there’s. :)
    I adore Colette. :)

Eh. If you already have 2/5 of the Bs you might as well go ahead. Out of my own curiosity, what are the rest of the siblings’ first initials?

N , B, J, b, A.  I just realized that the new babies name also rhymes with an  older sibling... :/

We have a Blakeley and an Amelia. New baby will be Haley. I worried about the rhyming too, but we love the name and the more I thought about it the more I decide the rhyming wouldn’t matter. :)

I have an Olivia and Sophia.  Not quite rhyming, but they end the same way.  It never has been an issue and occasionally turns out well when I'm yelling.  They both pay attention.  (BTW, I didn't pay attention to how popular names were when I chose these two.  They were both at the beginning of the trends.  I consider myself a trendsetter.   :D)
  • @mamaof5already, I say go for it. You both love the name. To me, the rhyming would not matter much to me, especially with 6. If they all rhymed, that would be a whole other thing. I assume from the initials that it is a nickname it would be rhyming with. Names are hard. When you find one you both agree on, go for it!

We we finally decided on a name (though I thought we had before, but we changed our minds). As of now, baby girl will be named Lydia Kathryn. Hopefully it sticks. I feel good about it and have started calling her that.

Anyone keeping the name name a secret from family? We did with the first and my husband want to keep it a secret again (shh don't tell him I told you), but I want to tell my son (5) the name and I know he will tell the world.
  • @lainikins  My ex and I kept our baby names a secret.  I thought it was fun.  Especially since everyone knew that they were girls.  I didn't have to listen to everyone's opinions on the names and once we announced them, everyone just accepted them.  Even though we went a little out there on the middle names.  Will probably keep this one a secret too.  But my kids are older (14, 11 & 11) and can keep a secret so I may tell them.  Help them feel included.
  • @lainikins  What if you told him the middle name?  Or maybe tell him a few options and say you're still deciding?  Or let him go through your list with you?  I've done that even though we're not even close to deciding.  My DD1 went through my list and gave me her opinions.  What if you have a list and crossed off a name each week?  Even if you have already chosen, your DS may still feel involved.  And even if he says something, it will be what you're NOT using.

    Great ideas! Thanks!
  • What do we think about Abel
I love the name... I also like the name Adler if you're looking for something along those lines :)

What are thoughts on Quinna? Our last name is only one syllable so Quinn just doesn't flow. I'm okay with Quinnley but DH isn't necessarily on board. He's thinking about it. He vetoed Quinnlynn.

I have some mixed thoughts on Quinna but am curious to see how much I've overanalyzed it!

FWIW, we will call her Quinn.
Until I read that you'd call her Quinn, I was pronouncing it "Kinnah" and "Kinley". So if you'd be calling her Quinn anyways, go for that! (BTW I floated that name, too, and it got vetoed. Love that name.)
I also vote for Quinn (love that name by the way!)

  • We found out yesterday we're having baby boy #3!! :)

Our boys names start with L's ...

We already have Liam and Lochlan. I love the name Layton. Any thoughts on Layton vs Leighton?

Leighton seems a little more feminine to me. I think Layton is better for a boy IMO.
  • @lainikins We're keeping it a secret at my insistence. We were open about our struggles and ivf so I want to have a good thing that is just for us. Plus I don't want to hear opinions on it from buttinskys. We told my parents we were choosing an Italian name so my husband's Irishness doesn't take over completely (I'm Italian) and my dad already chimed in that it's a horrible idea bc in America you should have American names. *eye roll*

My parents thought this way when they came to this country so I have a very American 80's popular name. My parents can't even pronounce my name. Their logic made me laugh every time they tried to yell my name in anger lol
