Anyone thinking names yet?

Re: Anyone thinking names yet?

  • @Cats*in*space that's a great choice! I love Avery as a middle name.
  • Loading the player...
  • We agreed on a name!!!  We are team green so either way the first name will be Elliot :)
    Girl= Elliot Josephine
    Boy= Elliot Jude
  • Team green here too. I think we have our names.
Lydia Lee and Connor Lee. Lee is for my dad and my middle name. My husband and I have been back and forth with boy names for weeks.
  • @Cats*in*space I love Avery! Such a pretty name. And I love Eleanor, too. Would you call her Ellie maybe?

  • @iheartichi we don't have a name yet. I'm trying to get into the idea of a name my husband likes, but I feel unsure about all of the names on my list.
  • @Cats*in*space I love Eleanor, and that was a very close contender for baby girl.
  • Well I have been MIA for a while dealing with life, but I have been lurking again this week (can't believe we have actually had some babies born already... holy moly!!!) and thought I'd jump back in. Missed all you pretties!

So we finally came up with a first name that is not Tiara Fett (sorry DD) - Hayley (DD is Lily so I thought they went well together). But not sure how to spell it. I guess Hayley, Haley, or Hailey? I want it to be a common/non-yooneek spelling but not sure what to go with.

And we have no middle names as of yet. DH wanted Christabella as the middle name (his name is Christopher and we would have used that as a mn if it was a boy) but I think it's too long and doesn't go with our last name - 2 syllables and also ends in an a. Plus DD's mn is May so it might be weird if this one had a really long mn.

Anyway. That's our progress since I last posted on this thread. It has been fun reading back through the past few pages and seeing everybody's names. Loving them!

@hatrats -- I am a teacher, so I've seen all variations of Hailey. I'd say the two that I see most often here in California are Hayley and Hailey. Personally, I find the aesthetic of Hailey more appealing. I like the idea of honoring your husband with your daughter's middle name. To me, Christabella is a bit of a mouthful. What about Christina, or Christine?
  • +1 on spelling it Hailey.

    Hailey Christine is lovely.

  • We are keeping ours a surprise too. We have really opinionated people in our lives so for my mental health I asked my hubs if we could surprise. It's Avalee Jo and it's the only name we have both loved.

@hatrats my little sisters name is Hayley. Personally I don't like it with 2 Y's though I don't think it flows well. But we've seen it spelled Haylie, Haylee, Hailee, Haylei, Hayleigh, etc. my favorite is Hailey though. However, I could see that not being very common. I think the most common from what I've seen is Haley.
  • Hailey and Haley are the most common versions I've seen.  I'd watch the -leigh spelling, that's definitely been one of the trendy things the last few years.

  • It looks like Hailey is the most common version in the US per the Social Security Office website. It is also the spelling that I like best.

  • After my DH rejecting almost every name I suggested we've finally settled on Eliza Kate. It's so nice to finally have a name to call her!
  • edited July 2017
@txmama015 Eliza is cute!! And I feel you, took us a long time to figure out a girl's name because my husband kept rejecting all my suggestions. Haha. We finally agreed on Waverly-Jane Marie.
  • Annnd now that I thought we had decided on a name: Lucy Elizabeth, DH has decided that it is "boring" and wants to go back to the drawing board.

  • Right? This, of course, is after he has vetoed 90% of the names I've suggested. The other 10% he has given an "eh, it's okay" to.
  • @CoastalMomma FWIW, Lucy is definitely our girl name if we ever have a girl. I really wanted Lucy Elizabeth. I thought it was so cute. DH immediately vetoed. He hates the way Elizabeth sounds with Lucy. Maybe you can find another middle name so you don't have to scrap the whole name. We mostly settled on Lucy Jean, which was my grandmother's name.

  • @bridge-and-wall, DH is sold on Elizabeth since it is my middle name and DS shares his middle name. I have the feeling that she will be a Lucy after all. He probably will come around.
  • I've got a question about middle names. We're having twin girls - would it be weird to name them the same middle name? The name is very meaningful to us, but I don't want it to be weird. My MIL named either 2 or 3 of her daughters the same middle name and I always thought it was lame.... Yay or nay?

If it's a family tradition to do that, I could see it being a really cool thing.
But for me personally without any knowledge, I tend to lean thinking it is odd.

I probably would not. Plus if they have the same first initial, that makes for credit reporting nightmares later in life. The credit bureaus tend to erroneously combine the reports of family members with similar names. As twins their SSNs would be very close as well; so that just further compounds the issue. This is part of why I also won't name my kids Jr, II, III, etc...
  • @JNR6510 @Sugargirl1019 thanks for the feedback. They will have different first letters for their first name. I still think the same middle name is weird-ish, but DH likes it and thinks the middle name isn't a big deal. I am having trouble coming up with another middle name equally as meaningful that we like!

    Twin girls! 8/26/2017

  • Alright I need to rant and this seems like the most appropriate place:
my husband ugh! When we found out we were having a boy I said my favorite name is Hudson for a boy. He said yeah I like that too. Then I said are you sure you don't want him named after you in any way? If you do it kinda has to be the first boy or I think it's awkward. He said no i like Hudson. Conversation over that was his name... 20 weeks later he looks at me and says... " maybe the next boy could be named after me" now he's claiming that we never really talked about but it's fine he doesn't want to change the name because we've already ordered stuff with his name on it and stuff. Seriously what am I supposed to do with this information? It's frustrating... and I really think he just gave me whatever I wanted because my grandma had just died and he wanted to try and make me happy. Which good intentions I guess but I'm still mad about it.

    DD is Eliza :)

My husband and his sister have the same middle name - their mom's maiden name (which is still her last name). It isn't weird for them, but to be fair, they aren't twins.  The middle name is meaningful to all of them. Just sharing in case this helps you reach your decision!

I like it! Especially with the different lettered first names.

Ugh. They're so frustrating sometimes! I also feel it would be weird to name a second boy after him. But to be fair, I'm not a big fan of using the same first name. I think it creates confusion.
  • @daisy62103 Honestly I think it's a bit weird and could definitely cause confusion in various databases throughout their lives, but if that's what you want to do, there aren't any rules against it obviously.

@Breath_Easy92 Uhh, yeah that is pretty annoying. But you could always use his middle name or other family name of his if you end up having another son. I would probably steer clear of a full same name "Jr" though for a second son.

So, still not decided on the Hailey/Haley/Hayley, but we've narrowed it down to 2 potential middle names: Grace or Kaitlin. Last name is 2 syllables, starts with "J" ends in "a".

My mom's middle name is Grace, as well as two of my cousin's kids' middle names, and our niece on my husband's side's middle name. No Kaitlin's although DH's sister is Katie and we have a few other Katys in the family (I think they're all Katherines though). Not sure how much any of that matters one way or another. Any votes? DD likes Grace, but of course her first choice is still to name the baby after herself.

  • @Daisy62103 some would think it's weird and I personally don't care for it for my kids but my ex mother in law's side all the girls were Ann. There were 5 of them. My current mother in law's side all the girls are Marie. It never bothered any of them. I say if the same middle name flows then go for it. Or see about other family names that could work.

@Breath_Easy92 Our son is named after both our fathers. If we have another son he will be named after my husband. Not a junior as I do not like that at all but more than likely the middle name.
  • @hatrats, I like Hailey Grace the best out of your options. I think it flows better than Kaitlin and I like the family connection.
