Re: July IUI

  • IUI number: 1
Date of planned IUI: I don't know for sure but I imagine it will be July 8th or 9th but I won't know for sure until my U/S on July 7th!
Any other background/details of your journey: I have PCOS and hubs has MFI (Count/Motility).  In addition to those I have a septate uterus.  This doesn't necessarily affect my ability to get pregnant but it could cause issues with staying pregnant but only time till tell!

  • I will be having my last iui (number 4 but 5th cycle trying) in July granted the follicles develop on the correct side. If it doesn't work we will move on to one round of ivf most likely. Just waiting for cycle to start. Took the month of June off.
  • Hello July ladies!

i am starting my first IUI this month! Likely end of next week sometime. I'm on day 4 of clomid 50mg. We have unexplained fertility and I'm hoping for a good result!
  • J1006J1006 member
July ladies, I officially join you.

This will be my fourth and final IUI. If this doesn't work we will have to have the IVF talk.

It will most like be around the 15th.  My u/s will be the 12th.
  • Decided after much thought that I will be doing a few more iuis. I think I would always wonder what if, if I didn't try. So waiting for AF to show which should be the beginign of next week if I didn't get preg naturally. Iui would prob be the middle of July. Hoping 3rd time is the charm.
  • I'm joining as well. Looks like my June IUI has turned into a July IUI. This will be my second IUI. Already had Cd12, cd15, and cd18 testing and still my follie is only at 14mm. Going back in the morning for cd20 testing. It is definitely getting annoying waiting for my follie to mature. I think the Letrozole is lengthening my cycle but hoping next month they will increase the dosage and maybe they will mature quicker.

@meredithj123 Good luck with your first IUI.
@marfi237 Good luck with your first IUI as well!
@J1006 and @Labluver2  Hope this is your month ladies!

  • What dosage of letrozole are you currently taking?

  • Hi all. Figured I would jump in for July. This will be my second IUI.  I got a BFN today at 13 DPO after IUI #1. I'm going tomorrow for my beta and then WFAF which I expect Thursday or Friday and then we get to do this all over again! I expect the IUI will be around July 18th, just based off how I responded to the meds last cycle and when I expect to ovulate. Our DX is unexplained.
  • @marfi236 They have me on 5mg of Letrozole, day 5 to 9.
  • Went for my first US today on day 13, I have two follicles that are 22 and 20 and then another two that are 14 and 16 so trigger shot tonight and IUI on Friday. This is my first cycle- any experience or advice as far as my number of follicles and size? They said it looked really good. I'm curious as to whether clomid success rates are increased at all based on good follicle size and number ?
  • J1006J1006 member
@meredithj123 your numbers look great!  I'm on letrozole not clomid. The most I've ever had was one good sized follicle (in the 20s somewhere, I can't remember exactly) and then a smaller one in the teens that they weren't sure if it would produce an egg.

Slight vent....AF showed Sunday. The doctors office was closed Mon and Tues for the holiday. I called this morning to get info on meds to see if anything will change since this is my last IUI cycle. The receptionist took my message and said someone would call me back. I heard nothing, which I strange because I normally hear back within an hour. I called around 3.  I've been working with a team consisting of a doctor, NP, and nurses. Apparently the doctor passed along the request to the NP and the nurse is waiting for her to get back to them. I'm just really frustrated at this point. I know the NP is the person I've physically seen the most, but as my main doctor you think she could make the decision to increase my meds or not.  I've got about 20 minutes until their office closes so I doubt i am going to hear anything tonight. Tomorrow is CD5, so I'm calling bright and early and won't be as nice as I was today.
  • @meredithj123 Your #'s are great. My office considers mature follicles between 18 and 24 mm. A lot of women only get one mature follicle (I know I did) so two is great! Good luck!

I went in today for cd20 testing...yes cd20! Arg! Got a call this afternoon they are cancelling this month. My progesterone came back higher than it should be. Has anyone ever had this happen? If so, was it back to normal the next month? I've never had an issue with it, so no idea what is going on. They we will start fresh next cycle.
  • @sunnynat2015 I'm so sorry about your progesterone! I have no idea about any of that. My fertility clinic doesn't check any of those levels. Best of luck next cycle
  • @marfi236 let us know how your ultrasound goes tomorrow!!
  • @J1006 Sorry to hear about AF! I would be super annoyed at the clinic too. They were probably busy from being shut down for a couple days but that is no excuse! I'm surprised your office closes for holidays. I hope you hear back asap! My Clinic recently merged with another clinic in our area. I use to hear back from my doctor/nurse team so fast. Always before noon time. Now with the new merged clinic I don't head back until 3/4pm. I hate it, leaves you wondering all day.
  • J1006J1006 member
I finally heard back this morning!  Still continuing with my 5mg of letrozole and pregnyl trigger. However, they are going to do a complete diagnostic pelvic ultrasound at my CD11 scan.  We thought we were dealing solely with MFI, but they are suspecting something else now. They thought for sure with my "normal" testing and the use of a donor I would have had a BFP by now.   Anyone else have more diagnostic tests after failed attempts? I wish this was done before we started since most of the IUI cost is OOP.
  • @J1006 - I don't remember, have you had a sonohysterogram and/or an HSG? I haven't heard much about doing a complete pelvic ultrasound. I'd be curious to know what that would show vs those other tests. I thought after an SHG and HSG they did an exploratory lap to look around (if they suspect something/feel it's necessary). That could just be my office though. Hoping there are no other issues and this is your month!

@dmo1371. Yes I had a HSG awhile ago and everything looked normal. Apparently through this ultrasound they can see if I have fibroids or polyps. She also said in some cases they can detect endometriosis. I'm not fighting them on it because my insurance covers everything diagnostic and I would be getting a follicle scan anyway. I just find the timing strange.
  • I definately will!  I'm so excited for it (though not about the fact that I need to get up 2 hours earlier than normal but it will be worth it!)

  • Had my iui this morning! We were told the sperm looked great and so did the follicles and they felt it was very promising! They didn't do an US today but said even if I already ovulated there is still a good chance! Now for the 2ww... happy iui's to everyone else this month!
  • So I had my CD12 ultrasound today!  I had several little follicles but they only measured the biggest on each side.  I had an 11 x 11 mm on the left and a 14 x 14 mm on the right.  They predict I will probably get a positive OPK on Monday or Tuesday (which is perfect because it would be dreadful if I got a positive OPK on Sunday).  If however I don't get a positive OPK on Tuesday I will go in for an ultrasound on Wednesday (unless I get a positive OPK that day and cancel and schedule my IUI).

@Labluver2. GL!  Hopefully this will be your cycle!

@marfi236 GL on your first IUI!
  • @marfi236 are you doing the trigger shot? I'm new to all of this as well and it seems like almost everyone is doing a different combination of meds!
  • @meredithj123 No trigger.  Just using OPKs to catch peak.  I generally ovulate on my own (though if I didn't get the Peak today I don't know if they would have had me trigger, because they wanted me to get another US tomorrow if I didn't peak today).  It seems like most of the people who take Letrozole trigger but I didn't.  My RE said she was having me take it to ensure that I would ovulate but that my body would do the rest!

  • @marfi236 got it! I'm taking letrozole but I did take clomid and used the trigger. We didn't do a repeat us after the trigger because they said if I did ovulate already I'd still be in the right timeframe! It's still frustrating though not knowing the final size of follicles and how many were present!! Good luck to you tomorrow !!

@meredithj123 @marfi236  I ovulate on my own as well, so my doctor left it up to us if we wanted to do medicated cycles.  We figured we are paying for this either way, what's another $100 for meds?

It's very interesting to see the protocol differences among everyone on the boards.  Last cycle, I couldn't get in with my usual doctor for the actual IUI, so they had someone else from the practice fill in.  Right before she did my IUI, she asked if I used an OPK.  I think my response was, "No....was I supposed to be doing them this whole time?"  I guess it even varies among individual doctors in the same practice.
  • So weird! Definitely doesn't help the anxiety to see everyone doing something different!! I have no idea how they knew if I was ovulating or not as this is my first cycle. I figured the same though, i did the trigger shot because I feel I have a hard time predicting ovulation and spending 100$ made me feel more assured we wouldn't miss it! Some brands of the OPK I used while trying to conceive naturally were confusing with their results for me (I work in healthcare so I'm very well educated this stuff in general)
  • @meredithj123 @J1006 I was so paranoid that I would miss ovulation that I used wondfos and ClearBlue digital advanced everyday since last Wednesday just in case one didn't register.  I got the positive on the wondfo first and so I was super hopeful that the ClearBlue would show it too, and it did!!  Even still I wasn't sure I would see a peak when I tested yesterday because the wondfo was still super light.

  • What is wondfo? Haha I'm so new to this! I looked it up and it seems like pregnancy tests that are cheaper than clear blue? Can you test the six days  before like the more expensive ones?
  • J1006J1006 member
Wonfo is the brand. They have ovulation tests and pregnancy tests. I use something similar for pregnancy tests, Accumed. I got them on Amazon for $7 for 25 tests. They test for the same level of HCG as ClearBlue. First Response tests the lowest levels. My doctor told me if I test early only test with the cheap ones because the first response might pick up my trigger shot and give a false positive. I only test with First response 14dpiui.
  • Got it! Thank you
  • Day 3 of cycle - 4th iui (5th medicated cycle).  Had inital labs done today and start letrozole tonight for 5 nights.  Took last month off which was a needed break.  If this cycle doesn't work than most likely will do 1 round of ivf! We are OOP so have to look at everything.
  • @bpietronicco we are on the same cycle. Cycle day 3 for me as well start the femera tonight for 5 days. I also do gonal f injections starting Sunday and Monday and repeat bw and US Tuesday. Good luck this cycle hoping its the one for you. This is #3 for me hope 3rd time is a charm.
  • I'm having the worst sore nipples and fatigue! I'm only 5 days post iui so I know it's not pregnancy symptoms yet! Anyone else have these symptoms with ovidrel? Do they go away prior to testing?
  • J1006J1006 member
I get horrible symptoms from my Pregnyl trigger shot. Really moody, tired, and last cycle I was super nauseous. My symptoms go away about a week after my IUI.

AFM, I had my diagnostic ultrasound this morning. Way more uncomfortable than my follicle scans because she had to move the wand around in all sorts of different angles. They are going to call later today with results as well as how many follicles I have and when I need to trigger. I'm praying I trigger tonight. DH is working 24 hours starting tomorrow morning so if I trigger tomorrow I would be doing it myself, which makes me nervous!
  • @J1006 it's good to know I'm not the only one with symptoms! I had he worst headache and nausea for 48h after the trigger. I asked at the doctors and they said those weren't symptoms of the trigger and maybe I had the flu! Let us know how the follicles are looking and when you trigger!! Hopefully tonight! I know the feeling, I thought my DH wouldn't be able to come for my iui since he travels for work-the thought of having him there makes iui a little more romantic I guess haha
