July IUI

Re: July IUI

  • IUI #1 is done!  Now the waiting begins!  Hubs count was 12.6 million at 29% motility.  It's so much better than his first sample which was around 5 million with about 1% motility!

  • @marfi236 congrats on the first iui! Now for the 2ww. Ive actually found the 2ww a little easier so far than the first two weeks. No appointments, or tracking or scheduling so I find myself forgetting about it a little easier!

  • @meredith1987 Thanks! I expect that to be the case for me as well.  Before my IUI I had to get up an hour early to pee so that I could take my OPK when I actually woke up (my RE tells us to not use FMU, to get up and go pee then drink some water then take the test an hour later).  Ill still be temping but I have a kindara wink and I can do that while I'm half asleep because I don't have to enter it in my phone.

@marfi236. FX that this is your one and only round!  The TWW is the worst part for me haha. The appointments and stuff make it go by so much faster for me.

My my prayers have been answered. I had my ultrasound this morning and I get to trigger tonight, so DH can do it for me. IUI 4 is Friday morning.
  • Good morning ladies. I've been *lurking and praying for each and everyone of you thst this is your month!!!
Afm I'm waiting for af to arrive in the next few days. Have an appt with my RE on the 24th so not sure if I will have an iui this month or next. Hopefully my cyst are gone  :):)
  • @rel_1987 welcome to July! Sorry that you find yourself here but praying this will also be your month ❤️❤️
  • @Labluver2 - I won't start gonal-f until Tuesday after my BW and US.  Nice to have a cycle buddy!
  • I've been a consistent follower and lurker here for over a year now. I figured it's about time I get in on the action.

    IUI number: 1
Date of planned IUI: starting femara 7.5mg tomorrow, will have first follow up ultrasound on 7/23
Any other background/details of your journey: we have had 3 early losses in the past year. We have had all sorts of testing that has come back normal. Our OB, MFM, and RE all think it was "bad luck". Trying to stay hopeful moving forward.

Every time I sit in the waiting room at the doctor, and feel all of these emotions, I think of each of you. I'm so sorry each one of you has to travel this road. I am thinking of you all. Best wishes and good luck this month!

Hi guys! I had my iui a week ago today and I'm freaking out! This morning I feel like I could get my period at any moment- I have cramps and bloating. The cramps aren't terrible or anything but there enough that if this were day 27 I'd be sure AF would start anytime. Has anyone read anything or experienced this? I guess it could be implantation but it feels exactly like a period. Ughhh
  • J1006J1006 member
@meredithj123. I've had cramping before throughout the TWW and it's been nothing. They weren't really period like though. More of like a sharp pain.  I try not to symptom spot, but I know it's so hard not to!

My 4th and last IUI is over!  Just finished up at the office. Our donor counts were the highest they have ever been 78 million, so I'm extremely happy about that.  Now on to the TWW.
  • Fx hope this tww goes fast for you @J1006
  • Hi all, I'm officially joining for July. I'm going for my baseline on Monday. Will be doing 5mg of Letrozole, starting Wednesday. And hopefully IUI last week of the month.

  • Af has arrived tonight. Had light spotting on Friday. Have baseline Mon morning. If cyst are gone should starty 7.5 mg of Letrozole cycle day 5-9 with iui #4 the last week of the month. Fx this is our month  :)
  • J1006J1006 member
@sunnynat2015  @rel_1987. FX that this is a successful cycle for both of you.
  • @J1006 Thank you! Hoping your 2ww goes by fast!!
  • Afternoon ladies  :) so no cyst were seen at my baseline appt. Thank goodness or I would of screamed lol. I start letrozole on Weds and have my scan on the 26th. I'm assuming IUI will be the 28th.

@rel_1987 that's awesome about no cysts!! Good luck to you this cycle!!

for anyone who has done the clomid before- did you find that it shortened or lengthened your cycle at all? I'm trying to remain hopeful and will test later this week but trying to figure out if I should expect AF exactly two weeks after iui so I can plan my August schedule for potential appointments. I also had some bright red spotting tonight - could be implantation or start of AF
  • @rel_1987 Thank goodness for no cysts! We are one the exact cycle as well. I start my Letrozole in Wednesday and have my scan the 26th too!
  • @sunnynat2015 yess!!! I literally told my RE that if I still had cyst on my right ovary I wanted to fet rid of it lol. I was joking but the look on his face...Priceless. Fx that this is the cycle we both get our BFP  :)
  • I go for my follie check tomorrow let's hope I have more than 2 this time. Hopefully I'll be able to trigger tomorrow or the next seems pretty early tho I'll be cycle day 10 tomorrow and 11 on Wed. I guess the Dr knows what he's doing tho.
  • Just came from the doctor 3 follies on my right 1 on my left!!!! They were all about 13-12 so a few more days of gonal F and Recheck prob Friday depending on Bw!!! This is the most I've ever had so fingers crossed.
  • @Labluver2 good luck! I had my 10 day check today and I have 3 on the left- 16.5, 13 and a 10.  Waiting for nurse to call to confirm! I start injections today.
  • @bpietronicco good luck to you as well!!! Its nice having a cyle buddy!!! Hopefully this is our cycle!!!!
  • Well got my BFN last night and AF showed up today. Feeling pretty discouraged as everyone at my office thought I had such a great chance this month based on everything. Guess I'm still in the july group though as I should get my next iui the last few days of the month. I am praying and hoping you all get your BFP this month!!!
  • J1006J1006 member
@meredithj123. So sorry for your BFN and AF showing!  I know it's frustrating especially when everything looks so great.  Just this past cycle, my doctor told me, you know we just don't know why it doesn't work sometimes. Not very encouraging, but it doesn't mean it won't work.  FX that next cycle is a success!
  • Hi everyone. I'm back after a 3 week break from the board and a month off. I forgot how good I could feel and how much pain the Letrazole had left me in as well as how many awful symptoms the Ovidrel gave me. Welcome and sorry to hear about your BFN @meredithj123 . It is not an easy time.

Right now my husband and I are trying to decide if we want to do a second IUI attempt when AF starts in a few days. I can add his insurance as my secondary in November and have it start on Jan 1 2018 for 75% IVF coverage. I don't have any IVF coverage right now. I don't want to lose my insurance and just go to his right now because I would lose all my doctors and have some other health issues. I just spoke with the nurse and the doctor let us know he recommends IVF (for unexplained MFI) but understands the insurance issue. They will let us put in for IUI to be covered by insurance if we want to try again.

My challenge is that I felt so terrible from those meds and I have been feeling so great this month. I got a promotion so work is crazy, i'm knitting at home again, cooking and baking, and even got to the gym. The Letrazole gave me this extreme bone and neck pain that made moving and having people bump me on the subway excruciating. The Ovidrel gave me 2 weeks of bloating, morning sickness, and extreme fatigue.  I think my husband is open to what is best for me.

Ladies, should I try one more IUI knowing it will hurt but I can get through it and take Tylenol liberally? Or should I just wait until January and enjoy our relationship and feeling good. Help!
  • @J1006 thanks for the encouragement I really appreciate it. Wishing you the best of luck this cycle
  • @meredithj123 sorry to hear that!!!  Hopefully your next one will be the one!

  • @greenhillgirl yay!  Another knitter!!

Im in the same boat, hubs insurance covers IVF but mine does not.  We're going to do 3 cycles of IUI and then if none are successful I'll have surgery to have the septum removed from my uterus and then we will do IVF starting in January.

@greenhillgirl hi! Obviously it's totally up to you. Not see how expensive iui is at your clinic but for me it's 700$ which isn't too bad for us. I'd consider your financial situation as well because although you felt great off the drugs I know for me personally the anxiety of having to wait would be tough. I guess it depends on how long your willing to wait. Personally I'd try it again!

also thanks everyone for the encouragement!!
  • J1006J1006 member
@greenhillgirl. I think it would be worth asking your doctor if there's an alternative to letrozole. I know my doctor doesn't usually prescribe clomid (this might be the case with yours too) however it might be worth a try. In regards to doing a second IUI...whatever you are comfortable with.  Unfortunately, IUIs are a gamble and if you are paying OOP, an expensive gamble.  We are paying OOP and each round is about $1,000. We are on our 4th round and thinking it's not going to work. I wish we would have just saved that $4,000 and put it towards IVF savings. You never know though. DH says he would have always wondered if IUI would have worked so it was worth trying.  I would say if your insurance will cover another IUI and you can get a med change it may be worth trying another round.
  • Hey ladies!
This is our first IUI. I go in Thursday for my CD3 testing and begin taking Letrizole.  I anticipate that the IUI procedure using donor sperm will occur in 2-3 weeks. I will get a schedule of medications and appts Thursday.

My husband and and I have been trying for four years and have been seeing an RE for five months. We were financially prepared for IVF and would have began treatments in August, but after a TESE biopsy, we learned that would not be an option. After careful consideration and many tears my husband and I selected a sperm donor. Most difficult decision we have made in the process and one that I am internally grateful to have such a strong husband.

Any advise on the IUI cycle is greatly appreciated!

    good luck to you all!

  • J1006J1006 member
@Prayingfor2. Welcome to the board, but sorry you find yourself here. Your story is similar to mine. DH and I have been trying for 4 years and are also doing IUIs with donor sperm. It's definitely not an easy decision to come to, but in the end we decided it was the right choice for us.

I'm assuming you are going to have a follicle scan somewhere around CD11. I have always worked with my sperm bank to have it delivered the day after that scan.  It's worked out well for all 4 of my IUIs.
  • @J1006 The sperm bank already sent it and it is being stored at the clinic; my husband jumped quickly! Lol

Thr nurse mentioned an ultrasound to check follicles and explained that if there are more than three they would cancel it as risk of twins is higher. I'm still not 100% on board with using fertility medications as we have MF factor. But after waiting for so long, we are going to take our chances and rely on the knowledge of the RE.
  • J1006J1006 member
That's great! My clinic doesn't have storage so they have to keep it in the tank it's sent in which only lasts for 7 days.

We also decided to go ahead with medicated cycles even though we are only dealing with MFI. We had to sign a consent stating we are ok with the risk of multiples. We are completely fine with that risk. We figured we are paying for it anyway why not increase our chances with a medicated cycles. Being on letrozole I've only had one cycle where I had two mature follicles. All others I've only had one. FX that this cycle is a success!
  • @Prayingfor2 Welcome to the board! And good luck with your first IUI. In my opinion, the IUI is fast and easy. I only get cramps with it but nothing worse than your period. I feel the 2ww is by far worse. But this board is great and it's good knowing you can chat with people that are going through the same thing as you.
  • Welcome @Prayingfor2 and good luck. I can imagine it's been a hard decision but it is exciting you are moving on to a new step. Thanks @J1006 @meredithj123 and @marfi236   I know Clomid is not an option for me because I have a mental health history of depression so I will stick with the physically painful one :)

I talked to my husband yesterday and decided to take a day to think about it. He wanted to do another IUI but I wasn't sure I could handle it and not feel resentful right now.

Then AF started today and I got a statement for a $40 copay for the IUI and I just decided to go for it. That $40 is the only thing we have to pay, I believe. To everyone on here who is struggling with insurance issues, I do not say that lightly. I have had terrible insurance plans in the past and thousands and thousands of dollars of medical debt. My insurance currently pays $0 for IVF which is what the doctor recommends for us. But your comments made me realize that I am super fortunate that this is covered and does give us a chance, especially with my age and lack of issues so far. So I called them and let them know and they will put in for insurance approval again. Fingers crossed!

This time I'll be taking Tylenol like its my job!

  • Annnnd the old friend I reached out to reconnect with Friday evening is pregnant and just messaged me to tell me not to be surprised. Of course!
  • Help!

So, I just got off the phone with the pharmacy. I have been written
    Letrozole 5mg
    Gonadotropin 150 IU
    Ovidrel 250mcg (trigger shot)
    progesterone 400mg after IUI

The Gonadotropin isn't covered and has a price tag. I have a compassionate care discount available.

I am still waiting on the clinic to call me back as I was expecting each med to be covered under cycle management.

Have you ladies used it along along with the Letrozole? Is it necessary? Google research appears that they do the same thing.
