Re: July IUI

  • I'm sorry for the BFN, @marfi236. Are you planning to try again in August or take some time off?

I'm sorry for the BFN, @J1006 . I know how hard it must be when you're considering going to IVF next and the expense associated with that. I would highly recommend this podcast I just started listening to. It helped me with my mindset and overall mental health during my time off. Not as a way to 'get pregnant' necessarily, but just to help me be more happy or sane during this really crap process. It's "Fertility Warriors" with Robyn Birkin and it's the episode with guest, Stephanie Roth. It really helped me and idk, maybe could be an option for you too in a break period?

I'm back after taking some time off since my failed cycle in March. I'm thinking about starting an August IUI thread since I didn't see one there since I just started my period today which officially begins this next IUI for me. Here we go!

  • Loading the player...
  • CD11 Labs and US complete! Didn't ask about follicle size; the tech didn't offer a size either. Is this a thing for y'all? Should I be concerned?

I have two mature follicles, one in each ovary and they gave me a green light to trigger tonight. My husband is excited; he enjoys giving me shots. Lol

We go in Sunday morning at 9am with a full bladder.... ugh.

I also have been prescribed progesterone suppositories (sp?) to use nightly during the TWW.

After a death in the family, I was sure this cycle would be cancelled, but my husband advocated for the services not to interfere and the family and church were more than understanding. I have never felt so loved and supported in this journey than I do today!

  • So I had my CD11 US today. I am so frustrated!!! So first of all I had 1 folly that was 20 and one at 16 and one at 14. The other day she told me I had one at 14 which was two days ago! Has anyone else had follys that grew so fast? I asked her why it was fast (and also because if we wait three days it might be huge!) and she told me it was 17 the other day (I have the picture from the us and it says 14). Then they gave me the option to trigger tonight and come in Sunday or to wait, check OPK tomorrow morning and if negative trigger tomorrow night (I decided on this option). My lining is only 5.6 but she said that's fine they just want it over 6 which is should be in a few days. I'm just feeling like they don't explain things very well and either I don't understand or they don't know what they are doing!! I'm a healthcare provider myself so I feel like if I can't figure out what's going on then the average person definitely can't! She also told me to stay off blogs hahahahahahah
Sounds like we are timed together. :-)
my husband keeps telling me to stay off the blogs too, but the clinic recommends chatting with others in the same circumstance.

Why are you using OPKs? I was advised against it as they say that the medications I am using is stimulating ovulation and it is all timed based on the meds.  I still feel like my body is still trying to work on its own because I have lots of egg white CM late last night and today which makes me worry that inseminating on Sunday may be too late?!?
  • @Prayingfor2. So happy to have you in the cycle so close to me!! I'm so happy it all worked out for you!! They want me to OPK to make sure they dint miss ovulation as I'm not scheduled for another 3 days for iui. So in case it's positive tomorrow for surge they would want me not to trigger tomorrow night and just come in on Sunday for iui. Otherwise if it is negative I will trigger tomorrow and come in Monday. I'm concerned about my lining being too thin- I'm looking up remedies at home and it will be a good excuse to eat steak this weekend as apparently bloody meat helps!
  • @rel_1987 Thanks <3

@meredithj123 I though I would have been upset but it has been a crazy week at work and I have 2 knitting projects that I need to finish before Monday night so I've not had time to really think about it.  I have had issues with depression in the past (I went of my medication earlier this year when we started working on the IUI process) so I have found knitting and other crafting really helps me when I have down times.

@manders85-2 No plans to take time off!  I had a first interview for a possible new job and if I happen to get an offer (and accept it) before my IUI then we will take a couple months off (so that I will be eligible for FMLA when I have a baby) otherwise we are full steam ahead for IUI #2 in August!

  • Hi everyone,

Sorry for the disappointing BFNs.  We just had our IUI this morning and I woke up from resting. I'm so jealous of the people talking about having 50million plus post wash! We had 6 million today which is really good for us and I had a thick lining and two good sized follicles.

Im not sure if we will do it again. I get such bad symptoms from the Femara I missed a day of work this week. But it did feel like an easier cycle over all. I got bad mood swings from the trigger shot already so I'm hoping that means it will give me less pregnancy symptoms over the next two weeks than last time. With the doctor continuing to say he really recommends IVF we might either try onc more IUI if my insurance will pay for it or wait til January for 75% IVF coverage.

    Decisions decisions.
  • **Lurking because I've been on the same IUI month threads with a few of you**

@J1006 - I am so sorry for the BFN. Thinking of you and hoping the break is good for you. Best of luck when you do IVF next summer.

Good luck to all of you this cycle!

  • @greenhillgirl good luck! Praying for a successful cycle for you!! Yourself, me and @Prayingfor2  are all in the cycle together at the same time! I think she is doing iui tomorrow and me on Monday! Let's keep this thread going for July since I think we are the only ones left and will need support for our tww!
  • I chose not to to do an iui this cycle. I didn't even trigger. Yesterday was cycle day 13 and I got a peak fertility on my opk. So just bd with my hubs which has been nice without all the extra stress.
Congrats to those who did their iuis and are in the tww. Fx this is your month  :)
  • IUI went as planned today! I was not expecting to be tilted with my feet in the air after. Lol. DH and I both got a chuckle from that.
First set of Labs in 10 days then actual pregnancy test on 8/16. This seems so late. Is this normal?

@J106 I am sorry for the BFN. Good luck in your IVF journey next summer. Based on your "summer break," are you a teacher? I dream of being a school social worker so I can also have that kind of schedule.
  • J1006J1006 member
@Prayingfor2. I think your timeline seems normal. My doctor doesn't do any bloodwork until I get a positive HPT, but I have seen others in past threads who's doctor does their first beta at about 18dpIUI.

Im actually a school librarian. I love the school schedule! Last year I worked part time in the summer during the schools summer program for some extra $. This year I chose not to and just have my summer off. I would definitely recommend it!
  • I feel like the TWW after IUI is worse than any other TWW I have experienced! Hope all of you are hanging in there!

  • @mschmitt17 when do you test?!
  • @meredithj123  beta scheduled for 8/7! I have been testing out my trigger. I'm not sure if I'll keep testing once it's out or not. I'm 8 days post trigger/6dpiui today and it's still hanging out.. is your IUI today!?

  • Well that's great! Hoping for a BFP for you! I had my iui this morning- they said it all looked great but they said that last time too haha. Hoping for a better result this month!
  • Sorry I have been MIA for the last week.  This TWW is going so slow.  I am supposed to get my beta on 8/4 but because I will be out of town i have to wait until 8/8.  Trying to stay hopeful.

Hoping dor BFPs for you all!

    Sorry for those with BFNs
  • @meredithj123  i appreciate their encouraging words but sometimes it just gets my hopes up. They kept telling us how great my follicles were and how great his sperm was and then I said "but it still only has a 15-20% chance of working" lol. Hope your TWW goes by smoothly and has positive results

@bpietronicco we have our betas one day apart! Hope we both get good news. staying hopeful is the hardest part

As for me - tomorrow I go in for a progesterone check - it will be 7 days post IUI. My clinic usually doesn't do progesterone checks but I love to panic and think "what if i didn't ovulate with the trigger shot!?". little bit of background, I am in medicine (pediatrics) and it has made this process so much harder because I know just enough from medical school to freak myself out.

  • @bpietronicco I was just thinking about you I go on the 6th for my beta went today for progesterone and it was 18.9 they said that was good. Yes this past week went slow I just hope this next doesn't and AF doesn't show.

@mschmitt17 i totally feel your pain! I'm in medicine as well (Hospital med) and I am my own worst enemy! I was asking questions last week and she literally starting pimping me! "Well why do you think that would happen, what is the mehanism of action"!!!! I was like dude as if I'm not hormonal and stressed enough!!!! I did ob/gyn for all of four weeks in school! I was bawling my eyes out after!! Ughhhh
  • So my clinic does not normally check progesterone levels. I was a fool and insisted they check. They called today and said at 9dpt/7dpiui it was 14.2 which she said was good. Of course that feels low to me, especially because I had 5 mature follicles on my CD 12 U/S. now I'm in panic mode. I've spent the last 2 hours on google.

how do you guys cope with the over analyzing that comes with this crazy process??
  • @msch17 I totally understand your frustration! I'm googling everything like crazy. I think like many medical conditions there are multiple ways to treat something which is makes it frustrating to see other people getting tests that you're not. I've decided to just trust my clinic throughout my three iui Cycles. If things don't work out I'll be asking a lot more questions and possibly be more demanding regarding what I want. Otherwise I feel as though I'll go nuts (and drive my poor husband nuts) analyzing everything lab value. Good luck to you!!
  • The RE nurse who completed the IUI mentioned no soaking in the tub for a couple of days. I have read that the heat could kill the sperm. Anyone know how many days I should wait? I really want my Tuesday soak, it's been my self-care plan for over a year and I could really use it after my day at work.
A couple of days to me is two, but I also understand that many people use this term lightly. IUI was Sunday!
  • @Prayingfor2 a couple of days means two to me also! I would probably wait 1 more day just to be safe.
  • @msch17 sorry about the doubt and googling. I am also an overanalyzer and chronic googler. I try to give myself some time to do it and then set a time limit and move on to something else. Give yourself 15-20 minutes for infertility online time to use however you want when you're really struggling. That can include forums googling etc. I think it can help process things and keep from annoying everyone around me. The issue is when it goes on and on and suddenly an hour has passed that you lost. I'd also try to stick to reliable sources. Medical journals or health sites- yes. Random chick from 2001 who once had __ level of progesterone. Not so much! I'm the worst with symptom spotting and googling. Good luck and let me know if this advice helps at all or even if it doesn't!!
  • @greenhillgirl that is such a good idea! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one (I see you @meredithj123). It's hard to find reliable sources, which is probably further evidence that my "research" isn't necessarily helpful or correct.

  • So I am 12DPIUI started spotting today light pink little red then turned brown. Also had cramping. I normally spot before AF as well so fingers crossed its implantation and not the evil witch. It has since stopped as did the cramps just feeling bloated and tired. Beta is Monday I'm guessing if I'm going to get AF it should be any day as when I normally spot I get it that day or the day after.
  • @Labluver2 fx its implantation and not af
  • DPIUI4 and have been so sensitive to smells to the point I gag. Is this a Progesterone symptom or from the HCG from the trigger? To early for implantation HCG I expect?

@Prayingfor2 could be either I'd imagine. I'm feeling nauseated today and light headed with a sore throats and I'm 4 days post iui as well.

    @meredithj123
labs are Wednesday (8/9) and consult and secondary Labs 8/16. I assume they need two Betas for the numbers game?

Im also kinda scared to take a test. Years of BFNs have given me a bad taste. And trying not to stress over this.

  • @Prayingfor2 I had read that wrong the first time and thought it sad 14 days! I was like girl take a test! But ya I totally understand the waiting game. I feel different this time than last. I felt I had a lot of symptoms last month like nausea after ovidrel, sore boobs and cramping, this month nothing. Weird
  • Sore throats! I've read that that is a thing... I've had a slight sore throat. Comes and goes. Chalked it up to needing to drink more water! Lol
    Makes me think!
  • @Prayingfor2 I read that about sore throats too! But then I asked my husband if he had one this morning and he said he thought so. So who knows lol!!
  • Well I'm out AF showed her ugly head today so my beta will now be cycle day bw and ultrasound. Onto #4

Question for the group have you noticed your cramps being worse on femera, gonal F or ovidril? My cramps were so bad this time I almost pasted out.
  • Sorry to hear this @Labluver2
I was hoping to hear that the 3rd time was a success.
Cant answer the later as this is my first.
  • @Labluver2 so sorry for your BFN!! I haven't taken the other two but I did use ovidrel. I did not have cramps at all last cycle though
  • @Labluver2 I have noticed with fermara my cramps and flow are worse. Idk if its a side effect or not but I hate it. And sorry for the bfn

@Prayingfor2 the trigger shot definitely gave me the sensitivity to smell symptom. I had most common early pregnancy symptoms very strongly last time from about 6dpiui through when I got my period. It's awful! Just try to remember it doesn't mean anything yet either positive or negative.

I'm at 8dpiui today and crampy, gassy, and bitchy. Thinking it's pms just makes me more annoyed haha. But at least I'm not having awful morning sickness and fake pregnancy symptoms this time. Yay!
  • @Prayingfor2
I also am 8dpiui! Babydust and good luck to both of us.

I've recently been following this blog and finally decided to chime in. This is my 3rd iui. First lead to a miscarriage, then I had to wait 3 months for a cycle. When it came we tried again with no luck.
Hoping and praying 3rd time is the charm.
  • Miscarriages is always hard. Miscarriage after years of infertility and treatments are something I am scared of. I'm sorry you went through that @waitingforit
