  • @jayandaplus this is what they use to break your water. I always thought it looked like a crochet hook too. They have to really get in there with it so if you compare it to a gloved finger it's really not too similar.

  • Ahh, those hooks creep me out.
  • @WombThereItIs very scared at what I have to look forward to for being induced. Does it hurt? Do you feel it?
  • Found out today I'm going to be induced friday...I'm a little upset because the idea was to induce me sooner due to baby size and measuring ahead because I want a natural birth so I want to be able to have her  so we said we'd induce well due date passed Sunday but  I might as well be 41 weeks when they had set the date D;

I have an appt tomorrow and will probably be offered a membrane sweep. I didn't have one with my first.  Is it painful?  Will it help progresss labor?
I was also wondering this, and although I was close to my due date my doctor didn't offer that as an option, only tried to stretch the cervix some because I was not progressing at all.

Also wondering if it's painful, but everyone has there own feeling to pain and what is or isn't painful

When they rupture you it isn't really comfortable but it doesn't hurt. That small hook is just going into the bag of waters, they aren't hooking into anything sensitive with nerves.

Really it's just gross more than anything else! I remember they crowded the bed with those puppy pad type liners and towels and still needed more, it's a lot all at once!

  • I have wondered if getting your water broken by the OB versus spontaneously is similar! I have only experienced spontaneously and I remember laying in bed feeling unsettled, then all of a sudden I felt a pop in me. It didn't hurt, just messy when the gush of fluid came out a few seconds later.

  • @lulubemadness one can still have a "natural" induced birth. Talk to your dr/nurses, explain that you wanted to be med free and to start on a low dose of pitocin. When I was induced with my first that's what happened and after a few hours I was able to get off the meds and do the rest of the birth med free. GL!

Thankyou! I'm hoping all goes well, so far all I heard was that they would start me on some pills to soften my cervix

It's not too bad if you don't know what to expect, they're pretty good at hiding the hook so you don't see it and freak out, and because it's not painful you don't even really think about it.

Re bag of waters and amnihook

With DS, my bag of waters broke on its own while already in the hospital bed. I already had the epidural in place and didn't feel it. Although, it had only partially  ruptured. There was a bulge leftover that the doctor had to go in and use the amnihook.

With LO, it spontaneously broke while I stood up from the triage gurney to get into the wheelchair... all over my fuzzy socks, lol.

@WxM941: Just saw your twins' birth announcement: Congrats!! It's wonderful that you're home and settling in.  :)
  • @clebl24 I've read that if you're already dilated some, it doesn't hurt/ feel uncomfortable as much. I had one done last week and I was 2cm and I found it uncomfortable, but definitely not painful. I'm going to ask for another one tomorrow at my 40+2.
  • @kayemjay2 I have a great relationship with my boss and she has said she would take me if needed. Also, my dad works about 20 minutes away and could come and get me as long as it's not on his day off lol then he'd be just as far away as the hospital! If it's the beginning and I don't need to go in yet H might be able to come and get me. He works about an hour or so away and would actually pass the hospital. So we have a couple of things in play. My dr even said if it's really early but you know it's real and can drive then I could, but I think I'd rather not! Oh, and the hospital is about 45ish minutes away depending on traffic and what not.

For those of you planning to work up until baby's arrival- what's your plan if you go into labor while at work? Asking for a friend, I definitely have a solid plan....
My plan is to immediately leave and either go straight to the hospital or go home then hospital. Worst comes to worst, my mom is retired and can pick me up.
  • @kayemjay2 I don't really have a plan- if I start feeling weird or my water breaks I was planning on just driving myself although I'm sure one of my coworkers wouldn't mind either. In our job it's pretty easy to leave whenever.

I had the MOST painful cervix check today. And the doctor had a student with her which I consented to but then she talked about me like I wasn't in the room and really manhandled my stomach to show the student where the baby was. It felt like she was trying to show off or something. She's my least favorite doctor in the practice and it was just a yucky appt. I thought we would schedule an induction date around my due date like we did with my first but she said I wasn't favorable enough and made me make an appt for my due date. It was a real bummer and she was just not sensitive in ANY way. Now I'm a little worried this baby is going to be huge and it's going to cause problems with delivery if they make me go to 41.
  • DH had corrective eye surgery many years ago, and one long term side effect is apparently a sensitivity to the sun, and a doctor's order for darker tinted car windows can be granted. As in, darker than what might be legally allowed in some states b So he is going to get an eye exam when he can and request this prescription. And since all our vehicles are in his name first, we're hoping we are permitted to do more than one or two.

My sac was bulging out of my cervix intact when I was in labor with DD, and according to my sister they broke it right into a bucket as I was delivering. I never noticed or felt it.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • Any other STM+ notice that movements feel different this late with each pregnancy?
DS1 was sunny side up and this one is not, so obviously there is that difference, but DS would roll around a lot, like I could be laying down and watch my whole belly move from one side to the other, I remember it being really uncomfortable. But this LO hasn't done it at all, I occasionally get his bum pushing out and I can see that and see him moving and kicking, but not to the extent that I could with DS1.

I mean I'm not concerned or anything, more curious if I'm the only one.

  • @RedInLove I'm so jealous! New York just passed a law that checking your tint is a part of the yearly car inspection so any tint on your front windows will cause you to fail.
I don't know what I'm going to do, as my inspection is up this month and I refuse to take off my tint...
  • @PartiallyDomesticated This one seems to roll around more like your DS did, while DD did more butt sticking out and some kicks here and there. So basically the opposite of what you're experiencing! It really has me wondering if the difference in movement will show a difference in how they move/act when they're born. Only time will tell :)

  • Ahhhh is it just me or is there a zombie in the CD thread  :o
  • @erinh2005 I'm so sorry things fizzled out! I'll cross all my fingers and toes that something starts to happen soon for you.

@Hansolosparka I'm sorry you had a crappy appointment today.

I've really only been able to lurk the last few days because my app crashes whenever I comment, but things seem to be cooperating now  I hope everyone is doing well!
