@thistlenweeds I saw in Hogwarts you were up feeding in the MOTN. Feeding again? How's it going?
Nope, not feeding now, he's just sleeping on me. My husband and I have yet to embrace the concept that we both can sleep when the baby sleeps (mainly because our baby doesn't love being in the crib on his back yet) so he's getting some rest right now while I'm hanging out with the little dude. Feeding wise in general though I think he's doing really well: my nipples almost don't hurt anymore and he takes pumped milk it looks like when I'm asleep and he's gained half of what he's originally lost already. How are you doing?
Yes, that meme is me. Going in to week 39 and just totally checked out of work and ready to be home and enjoy the nice weather with new baby - Not siked about labor (this is my 2nd), but she's measuring small so hopefully it'll be no biggie.

@jayandaplus That meme is also me. Today is my due date and no sign of baby coming. Today is also my first day of maternity leave and I almost wish I was at work still because the day is dragging.
Add me to the list of those checked out at work... So far today I've ate doughnuts, sat around and chatted, now I'm on the bump. After this I'll probably check amazon to see what's on sale today....
I am so checked out of work I just scheduled an appointment to get my car windows tinted. Yeah because that is totally a priority when you are in "any day now territory"...
@mcvgal Sorry your maternity leave is almost over already! Despite all the nicu time, I hope you had a good leave.
I'm glad I'm not working anymore, but it's kind of a struggle to find things to do. I already cleaned everything in the house and am just in maintenance mode now, we have everything ready to go for the baby, and I don't really have anything necessary to do. I've essentially been making an excuse to get out of the house once a day (today was to go get a latte and pet food), and then I come home, putz around, try to go for a walk if it's nice, and bump. I do have one last pedicure scheduled for tomorrow with the last of my gift card money. And, if I make it to the weekend, H and I have plans to go to a craft sale. Otherwise, I'm just waiting for the baby to arrive.
@thistlenweeds I'm glad your setup of taking turns works for you two! I can't wait for baby snuggles. @WombThereItIs I think tinting windows can be considered "baby" prepping, and therefore totally necessary and productive.
Yes, I'm checked out of work. I'm terrible. I actually hope work sends me into labor. I feel like the waiting and anticipation is one of the worst symptoms this late in the pregnancy.
@starphish18 Right there with you. I feel so "putzy". I clean things that are clean and wait to think of something else I can do. I made cheatsheets of all the baby books I read. So not necessary, but made me feel productive.
@clebl24 I'm leaning toward a membrane sweep also. I heard it hurts more than a cervical check, but is relatively quick. From my research, statistically speaking I've seen success recorded in the 15-22% range. They say if labor starts within 48 hours of the sweep you can consider the sweep a success. I'm trying to gauge the "risk" or the reasons not to do it aside from it being uncomfortable. Anyone have two cents on why not to do a sweep, aside from pain reasons?
@wombthereitis I'm going in for a car wash tomorrow. No judging on the tint. Plus it will be good to keep sun off baby.
My 2.5 year old lost it about how hot the car was yesterday and he was totally right. I had the windows done in my last car (because he complained about glare while rear facing) and this new one gets blazing hot, I only just bought it in February so I wasn't sure what to expect but it is pretty bad. I'm just hoping they find a cancellation and can get me in before the baby comes!
@clebl24@jayandaplus I actually just mentioned a membrane sweep in the other thread. Some women I know that have had them said they weren't painful. I've had 2 now, 1 with each pregnancy.. performed by the same person. The first time it was very uncomfortable I almost had her stop but I figured it would be better than being induced, this last time it was still uncomfortable but I was able to tolerate it better and she was faster. I think it only really takes like 60 seconds to do. Its uncomfortable because they are trying to shove their fingers up so far that their knuckles are digging into your crotch. It felt like someone punched me in the crotch after. If I make it to my next appointment on Friday, I will have her try again.
the first time I had it done I had some spotting after. The midwife said the more spotting the more likely it is that it worked. I lost my mucus plug a couple hours later and then went into labor about 12 hours later. This last time, I did not have any spotting and I'm still pregnant.
@chocolatelemons happy due date! Mine is today too. I'm already ready to turn my phone off because I'm tired of everyone's texts. I know they mean well, but hearing "come on baby, I'm so impatient" makes me irrationally angry. YOU'RE impatient?!
@mcvgal - I'm sorry your maternity leave is already coming to an end, hope you are able to enjoy your last full week.
I think today is my last day at work before my induction on Wednesday! I just need to make sure my temp is comfortable to work on her own tomorrow, which I don't think will be a problem it's just one day earlier then I originally planned.
@ShadeofGreen816 I am ready for a little more adult interaction. I don't think I'd be a good SAHM because there have been times I feel close to losing my cool. So in that aspect I am ready to go back to work just for a little sanity. I am disappointed that I missed out on all the good weather I originally thought I'd have on maternity leave. On a positive note, we are supposed to have good weather this week so I may get some outdoor activities in after all.

I imagine that I'll feel similarly. It helps that I'll be going back at 2-3 days/week so thats nice. Enjoy your last week at home!!
@clebl24 I had one at 39w3d last week and obviously it didn't cause labor for me but it did cause my mucus plug to fall out and a lot of cramping that night.
It was uncomfortable but I didn't think it was too painful. I'll prob get another one at my Wednesday appointment assuming I make it until then.
@MoshiMoshi7 happy due date to you too! The texting is non stop! I've just stopped responding haha. I'm sure that could make people think Im actually in labor.
I've never had a sweep because I'm a whimp. My OB has never offered one during any of my pregnancies and I've never requested. I know it doesn't make sense, but I preferred an induction to a sweep because I knew what to expect painwise in an induction. I'm weird. Also, getting my cervix checked while in labor at 4cm was pretty painful. I might have yelled in the triage room. But yet labor contractions didn't seem *that bad* for me. My ute is also weird.
As far as downsides, I assume a sweep comes with a slight risk of infection similar to that of a regular cervical check?
I've never had a membrane sweep, but I can commiserate with @lrwardrop - I was checked twice once we got to the hospital, and it was the knuckles on the OUTSIDE that made it painful. Like... can't you just shove your whole hand up there??? That would be better than what's currently going on down south!
This has me wondering. I imagine those who have had super uncomfortable checks may have had a higher up cervix that they have to go deeper to feel anything. So now I'm stupidly curious, but is it also super uncomfortable for those when they check during a pelvis or whatever exam in addition to a pap smear? I mean it's not fun getting poked in your hoohaa that way but from a medical perspective :P
@pshaortao I think my cervix is slightly off center normally, but pelvic exams aren't painful. Part of the pain of the triage check may have been a combo of being in labor and the nurse's technique. It wasn't excruciating, but it wasn't fun and I'd like to not experience that again.
@pshaortao - at my 36, 38, and 39 week appointment my doctor was unable to reach my cervix and it was pretty uncomfortable when she was trying to reach it. I don't remember having this problem when being checked with DS and my paps usually aren't as uncomfortable as these checks were either.
@pshaortao During a pelvic exam they just need to see the cervical os (opening), not insert fingers to feel dilation and effacement, so it'd make sense a cervical check hurts more than a pelvic exam.
Erg. I noticed the downstairs toilet was leaking a tiny bit, so I pointed it out to H. I told him I'd prefer to wait a while to tackle it, in case something went wrong and we were out a toilet at the end of my pregnancy/beginning of postpartum. He wants to fix it asap, so he already turned off the water and disconnected the toilet. I'm stubbornly staying out of it, because I'm frustrated. He had to run out to Home Depot, so clearly something isn't going as easily as planned. Now I'm sitting here, feeling a contraction as I write this, stressed out that this toilet isn't going to get fixed tonight. Obviously, first world problems over here, but preggo hormones are really making this feel like a big deal right now.
@starphish18 How scary! I hate being down a toilet even though we have three. I assume you have others? I hope he can fix it tonight and this just blows over, and then it's fixed, and all's well!
I just told my boss that next Monday will be my last day if the baby doesn't come before then. It was just something I felt was necessary since my due date is next Tuesday and my job is about 45 minutes from the hospital and I would hate to go in labor while working.
Sweeping the membrane carries little risk though theoretically one could break the bag in the process (unlikely - usually an "amnihook" is needed to do this in the hospital -- don't freak out - it's like a crochet hook and not sharp). There's actually some decent evidence that sweeping membranes reduces the need for induction.
@mdlorenz I don't know why but I am super worried about water breaking during the sweep. I've heard it's rare, but I'm wondering how rare. Is it the provider's technique that could cause it, or, which is what I'm thinking, the bag probably would have broken very soon anyway (like it was friable and the sweep grazed it just enough to cause the tension to snap)?
@starphish18 I hope your toilet gets fixed. If your husband is anything like mine the project will involve several trips to home depot, plenty of curse words and a moody husband. Hang in there girl.
