I don't want to completely divert this thread to older kids, but do any of you have advice on good books that address toddler biting? DS started biting at daycare about 4 month ago and it's just escalated. It's really causing a problem at daycare and I'm at a loss on how to handle it, especially because it's extremely rare for him to do it at home. It's only retaliation to another physical issue a small part of the time, and seems to be mostly a sharing issue. I try taking toys away at home and not giving in when he wants something but I don't get the same reaction. I really am getting worried he's going to get kicked out of daycare soon.
@ChristinaWild I know it's a normal thing, and should be short lived (I hope!). Usually because the child doesn't have the words to express feelings. We didn't have that exact issue, but we read "teeth are not for biting" and a bunch of the companion books (hands are not for hitting, feet are not for kicking, etc). Regardless, they are good messages for kids. Good luck!
Random question. For those that have baby in their bedroom what do you do when you (the parents) go to bed? As in does the light wake baby up? Do you keep doors shut for light and noise? Just wondering how it all works. Also in the mornings we have dark curtains but leave our bedroom door open which sun shines by it in the morning. Do you keep the door closed?
@SWE2 I would draw our blackout curtains and close the doors. For a long while I went to bed at the same time as baby because I was so exhausted so I just kept up the habit of "making it bedtime" in the room even when I would stay up a little later. The routine of room darkening and closing doors was something we carried over when he went into his room too so it started to build a routine and give him bedtime signals.
Didn't read the others except @RainyDays86 -- you are amazing girl and you got this!
But I wanted to add my random -- my best friend just had her baby! She was due 5/3 and got induced last night. Baby came this afternoon. We texted slightly but I don't have the full birth story or anything...seems like a long labor to me for being induced but I have always labored quickly so what do I know?
As for me unless I labor SUPER fast (scarily fast) I will officially be overdue soon! Totally chill about it but my mom is driving me crazy. I really hope I have the baby before she is back in town on Sunday because I won't be able to deal with her in person if I'm still pregnant. She is basically texting me to tell me I need to demand an induction. Nope, I don't demand inductions (see my UO about them). Also, nope, you don't tell me what to do. I wish I had told her a later due date or something!
@kat81 my induction with my first was a 32 hour event. You must have a very cooperate uterus! Sorry your mom is being BSC, you would think if anyone would understand it would be your own mom.
@kat81, I was induced with my son at 37 weeks and it was 9 hours start to finish with 3 ridiculous hours of pushing. With my daughter, I was induced at 36 weeks and it was 16 hours with 20ish minutes of pushing. So I guess it varies from person to person, but it sounds like hers was pretty similar to my second.
Sorry your mom is acting crazy...it's as if SHE is the one with a massive and overdue baby pounded her from the inside...ugh.

We keep the bathroom light on with the door slightly cracked so that it's easy for me to wake up to feed him without turning bigger lights on. This might change when baby is older, but we've been putting him to bed in all sorts of conditions - loud noises and lights on included - because we want him to sleep through anything. We haven't had a need so far to make bedtime into a special event. This will probably change when he gets older, though.
Me: 29, DH: 31 Married: October 2014 Began TTC: April 2015 BFP #1: 9/18/15. EDD 5/18/16. MC 10/26/15. (9w) BFP #2: 2/27/16. EDD 11/7/16. MC/D&E 4/20/16 (11w) BFP #3: 9/22/16. EDD 5/29/17. DS born 4/24/17 BFP #4: 5/20/18. EDD 1/23/19.
I've been going to bed when he does so far because I'm tired. But with DD we pulled the door shut and tried to have all our stuff ready to go for bed even if we weren't going right then. Then when we went to bed we didn't need to turn any lights on or anything, just go in and climb into bed. In the AM we have black out curtains so it's not bright in there. The sun comes in a little bit through the bedroom door but not enough to wake him up, at least so far. DH also makes sure he has all of his work stuff set out in the bathroom so he doesn't have to dig around for stuff in the morning.
Haven't been around for a little while, sorry. I had been busy preparing for an interview for a promotion at work. They had candidates present a keynote presentation on a particular product/service and I redid mine at least 4 times. It was such a distraction that I didn't prep enough for their actual questions, but the finished product turned out to be a strong addition. I was so nervous that I got off to a rocky start but ended strong. I've been told I'm a leading candidate but I also just had a baby so my mind isn't as sharp or in the game as I'd like. To be honest, I'm sorta resentful that they made me interview so soon after having a baby but at least I am being considered. Fingers crossed I get this! It would be a huge deal for me professionally so I can't stop thinking about it. Luckily I like my job enough that I'd stay there even if I don't get it, and I could cope in the privacy of home, but I really really hope I get it.

In other news, corn has become my toddler's new obsession:
@chailife34 FX for you! Too bad they oils the give you a little more time. You LO is so cute with the corn! Looks like someone will get cut if they try to take it away
@SWE2: Rooming in with our first, we were a bit more nervous about the bedtime/disturbing his sleep thing. If he were asleep in the room when it was our time to turn in, we'd turn on a soft lamp not the overhead, and we'd whisper, open doors softly, and watch tv with the sound down and closed captions on. We didn't totally walk on eggshells but I was definitely more nervous about it then I needed to be. If I sneezed or coughed, I'd immediately look over to make sure baby wasn't disturbed. Way too Nervous Nelly about it.
That lasted like a month or two before we realized we wanted him to be able to sleep through a sneeze or snore or thunderstorms, so we stopped being so super careful about light and sounds. When he slept downstairs in the day, there was traffic and phones ringing and random dog barks and it made sense that the night could have noises too.
This time, we talk quietly but not always in a whisper, we'll put on the hall light which doesn't even phase him, and in the morning we get dressed/open doors/brush teeth with some minor noise and he sleeps right through it with zero issues. We do "set the stage" for nighttime, though, and feel like giving him those "night cues" will be helpful when transitioning him to his own room later on. Lights off, swaddled, white noise, singing a song, saying good night, etc.
@SWE2 we have one of those salt crystal lamps in our room for the time baby is in there. We keep it on low so we can see in the dark MOTN feedings without having to turn the lights on. But generally you can watch tv, get into pajamas, etc. without disturbing bub too much.
Does anyone else find it super weird that June has had NO babies? I seriously think they've had like 4 total. I certainly don't want anyone delivering too early but it's mid-May! We had like 10+ at this point last month.
And yes I do frequently lurk other BMBs to read birth announcements/ogle cute baby pictures thank you for asking. Fortunately June has an awesome nursery thread that keeps me occupied as well.

This!! I'm also a creepy baby/birth story lurker and June has proven to be disappointing. Some of those gals are due in 2 weeks! Time for some sex and pineapple over there.

This actually makes me feel better because I was thinking the same! I also think it's strange that we're about to pass April... why are there no more April babies?? At least based on birth announcement #s and there aren't many birth stories in there either
I'm thinking I might try the pineapple this weekend and taking longer walks to get this baby moving! I swear he keeps dropping and its so uncomfortable to sit or stand or walk, but dang it he needs to come out! Maybe we'll even try sex

I thought the same thing about April and June! I think they have both moved primarily over to FB while we've made the FB move but still are pretty active here too.

I usually don't put any stock in old wives tales and that type of thing. But I totally drank pineapple infused water on Friday and had this kid on Saturday. Coincidence? Probably. But it was delicious.
I remember in one of my birthing classes with DD the nurse was saying that there is something in pineapple, but the amount you would have to eat to make it actually start your labor is basically impossible. I could be remembering wrong though.
I will be going to buy pineapple tonight or tomorrow regardless.
I was just doing some google research about pineapples and inducing labor. From what I've read, you'd have to eat 7 whole pineapples to have an effect...but reading so much about pineapple made me really crave pineapple juice, so I'll probably end up with some anyways.

One of our OBs swears by pineapples juice to bring your milk in. SHe even brought me a big jug while I was in the hospital. My milk came in pretty fast so I don't know if it has anything to do with that but at least it was delicious!
If I recall correctly from TTC, isn't pineapple core supposed to be good for implantation as well? Must be a magical fertile fruit
I am all about science and all...but not going to lie I totally ate pineapple core during the tww from this IUI. Totes worked obvs. It HAD to be the pineapple and not all the medications and injections and the IUI itself. So I know it's going to help me go into labor too! Pineapple FOr the win!!!
@chailife34 Good luck! @mcvgal and @rkstro2 I, too, ate a ton of pineapple to help with IUI implantation. I totally thought it'd have merit because we were so lucky the IUI worked. But, alas, I ate THREE pineapples in three days last weekend, and nada for this baby/labor coming. I'm still eating pineapple. For those wondering, there is bromelain in pineapple that helps soften the cervix. It's in all of the pineapple, so yes juice counts, but only fresh pineapple, so sorry, canned and as a flavoring probably doesn't contain bromelain, or at least not enough to be effective. So says my research, but what do we know.
