@jessafishy My midwives said it depended on what things looked like closer to the date, which is spectacularly unhelpful for RSVP purposes but I understand that it totally varies per person and per pregnancy.  I feel like such a SS putting "maybe" on a wedding RSVP but I don't know what else to do ... these are truly such special people to us so I want to be there but I just don't know if it's gonna happen.  Shout-out to Southwest for refundable tickets, I guess :/

As always get permission and advice from your doctor, but I will say you just never know what could happen. Early labor isnt uncommon and youre considered full term at 37 weeks. How comfortable are you with the possibility of delivering in a different state, far from home ? Do you have resources there (friends/family) that would help with a place to stay etc until you can safely take a newborn on a plane home? Not to say it WILL happen, just that it can.

When is the latest you STMs and TTMs would recommend flying?  2 of DH's super close friends are getting married in New Jersey in early September -- back-to-back weekends, and DH is a groomsman in the first one.  I think I figured out I'd be around 36 weeks.  The RSVPs are due soon and I don't know what to put.  DH will be going to the first one for sure, but I'm nervous for him to go to the second one and leave me alone at 36 weeks.  And of course DH is like, wait why can't you fly if you're not due for another month.  Anyone ever flown at 36 weeks?  Is that definitely not happening?
Definitely check with your doctor first. I was on travel restrictions my entire third trimester. I'd be leery about it at 36 weeks but some people do it.

Just keep in mind that if you happen to go into labor, you'll be far away from family/your regular doctor/etc. If there are complications you may end up in the hospital for longer than anticipated (or you baby might be). My friend went to the beach with her DH a month before her due date, baby came way early with complications so she was in a strange town  staying in hotels for over a month until the baby was able to come home (DH had to get back for work). Again, it's a worst case scenario but stuff like that does happen.

@canonmom413 Yeah the idea of going into labor in New Jersey terrifies me.  I think I already know I have to skip but I'm just not accepting it yet...
  • I wouldn't fly at 36 weeks. We were invited to a wedding the first weekend in September in CA  (We live in IA) and we aren't going because I'll be 36 weeks and I'm super uncomfortable with that. I also went into PTL at 27 weeks with my first, so I literally don't go more than an hour from home my entire 3rd trimester. It's not unheard of to have a baby at 36 weeks. Not worth chancing it, imho
  • @migdala I second what everyone else has said - check with doctor, airlines, how do you feel about it, etc.

I'm in the same situation. My cousin is getting married Labor Day weekend in Milwaukee. I REALLY want to go, but I'm not comfortable flying at 36 weeks so we won't be going.
  • @migdala i would RSVP yes and give them a call and let them know you plan on going but you need doc to confirm it closer to the date around 32 weeks. they will understand. you will know a few weeks prior that will give them time to adjust head counts at the venue and they can plan on putting you at a table if you are not there it is easy to "remove" or switch  you.

  • I find it ridiculous that I waste way more time at an eye Dr appointment than at the OB. I've been here an hour and Monday I was here for an hour and a half. Because I totally don't have other shit to do during the day. And love just waiting around with an impatient 3yo for shits and giggles
  • Darn you @carries2018 ! Now Chinese food sounds soooo good.
  • i love MSG.

  • Lots of randoms this week...

-Zero motivation to do anything work related this week.  I need to get the ball rolling on the search for a sub contractor to take over my clients when I go on maternity leave in September.

-Just found out from DH that we were invited to a birthday party for my BIL's girlfriend on Sunday (who I do not like) and have no idea where or what time.  She's a selfish brat who has four kids by four different dads (none of who are in the picture) and relies on the support of my BIL.  Unfortunately I don't see the BIL leaving anytime soon, which is a bummer because he could do so much better.

-We have chickens.  One of them started eating her own eggs and we need to stop that behavior asap.

-I've been craving fresh cherries but they aren't in season just yet.

  • @canonmom413 since you're the mom of 2 amazing dancers I thought I'd throw this your way.

DD is 3 and in "pre-ballet" class at the YMCA, started in January, once a week, cost included recital costume. Recital is on May 19 at the local high school. The teacher has her own dance academy but is contracted by the Y for 5 different classes/age groups each week (she has 18 other classes from her academy performing at the same recital). We just got the info for the recital yesterday - admission is $5 per adult and $3 per child over age 2 (performers are free). I was shocked we have to pay to attend the recital, on top of paying for the class!! It's not expensive but I guess I thought whatever rental fee is required for the high school theater would come out of the class fee. Am I totally off base or is that normal??
  • @purplestarz YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!  This was such a relief to hear.
  • It is VERY normal. I can give you a for instance. I pay 485 bucks a month just for tuition (classes NOT competition related anything). We also have to pay for our showcase costumes (recital) on top of that. They can be anywhere from 65-120 a costume X how ever many classes you partipate in. I make my kids choose one to two of their classes each, because many of their comp dances are in the show as well. Otherwise I would be paying for about 10 additional costumes. Then, on top of that, there is a showcase fee per family of 75. You only get 2 tickets included in that. Any additional tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. So if grandma wants to come, you need to buy extra tickets. We also have two shows, If your kid happens to be in both shows (theyre different and not guarenteed all classes your one child takes is in the same show) youll need additional tickets for the other show too...

  • @sdarling2010 also the dance school we go to isnt some presitgious dance school. Its a normal after-school dance school that happens to have a comp team. But the rates are comparable to all dance schools in the area, and other states as well (from other dance moms ive talked to)

  • @canonmom413 thanks for the info! This is just so informal and a "for fun" class that included the cost of the costume. So I was surprised. Obviously we will pay for us and grandparents to go, can't miss it!!
  • Here is another example. DD1 assists in the wee dance class (2-4 year olds). Those mommas pay $60 a month for their class.... then again pay for a costume.. then again their show fee is the same as mine 75. Then again their ticket prices are the same as mine. the classes the kids take doesnt change their prices. all classes are considered recreational classes... But the local Y , or the local Community centers dance classes are maybe $20 a month and include the costume....

  • Because it's at the Y we just paid a flat fee for the entire class upfront (discounted if paid that way) - $150, which included the $30 costume. And that's it. I'm cool paying the recital admission fee, just was surprised because no additional costs were ever mentioned. All good!

I appreciate your insight into the dance world. I didn't realize it was all so pricey!
  • @purplestarz Glad the baby is just fine! Hoping the infection clears up soon!
  • @purplestarz I'm so relieved for you!!

Food Randoms for me....just ate a peanut butter sandwich. It was so delicious I'm contemplating making another one. Also contemplating a box of Kraft for dinner, since DH has a work thing.

  • I made DS a PB&J for dinner the other night (yeah extra lazy, whatever) and it looked so good I had the same thing for dinner myself. Then had another one for breakfast the next day.

  • So my sexist old co-worker that I was just bragging about retiring, well we have a new employee who I swear is the reincarnation of him.  He is driving me to drinking today!  I mean you claim to be an engineer but have the intellectual understanding of my toddler who thinks he is above the law (aka work policies.)
