Hi guys, I have to AW my little one! He himself makes it all worthwhile. He's not really a crier but when he does, oh man, it hurts my heart. At this time of the morning two days ago, I was pregnant and it feels as though a lot has happened (physically) in this short amount of time. The nurses all say how crazy the hormonal changes really are in one's body. Even the pediatrician who came to the room (and I'm not even her patient!) made a point to tell me to expect mood swings and that everything is perfectly normal. Like, everyone knows it's important to reassure the mamas at every opportunity. I'm appreciative of that!
@SKZW, such a precious picture! It really is crazy how much happens in the first few days post birth. It's important to allow yourself time to recover and to just kind of roll with the hormonal tides.
Beautiful, @skzw! He's so sweet. Congratulations. And yeah, mood swings are for real! I'm finally settling down now but it could hit at any time.
As far as swaddling, the velcro sleep sack swaddles have been a life saver for us. We have 2 cotton and 2 fleece. Jay has to stay warmer than most babies, and luckily he loves being swaddled. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a non-velcro one for sleep just in case he wiggles it over his face - I'm sure that's not a problem if you're good at swaddling, though.
Someone gave me a pack of aden and anais bamboo swaddles, and I love them for breastfeeding. They're super lightweight and soft, and it's perfect for throwing over me or cleaning up the baby when he's eating. That's going to be my go to gift now for all of my pregnant friends.
Me: 29, DH: 31 Married: October 2014 Began TTC: April 2015 BFP #1: 9/18/15. EDD 5/18/16. MC 10/26/15. (9w) BFP #2: 2/27/16. EDD 11/7/16. MC/D&E 4/20/16 (11w) BFP #3: 9/22/16. EDD 5/29/17. DS born 4/24/17 BFP #4: 5/20/18. EDD 1/23/19.
*snip* (is there anyone who doesn't register for Aden an Anais???) *snip*
FFWC: I didn't care for them at all the first go around. I thought the bamboo ones were too silky to hold a good swaddle and never found much use for the cotton muslin ones either.
I washed them and put them out for this baby hoping maybe in the summer they will be more useful but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

FFWC: I don't know what you people are referring to, so I obviously didn't register for them lol
@WombThereItIs: I agree they seem too silky or slippery to stand up against these little Houdinis! I had one all the time in the stroller, and used it as a light layer, and quickie sun shade (or for bugs), and for spit-up cleanups.
RE Aden and Anais swaddles...I didn't register for them, but I did pick up a 4-pack at TJ Maxx for cheap. I like the muslin. Obviously haven't used them yet, but they seem like they'd work nice for summer swaddling.
@Jens_Hoes: https://www.adenandanais.com The swaddles are right on the first page at the top! They are pricey but very soft and light... and come in super cute prints!
@skzw so precious! baby snuggles are the best! I've been looking forward to them.
I never used the Aden swaddles for actual swaddling. The Velcro type are much easier.I did use the Aden swaddle blankets for everything else though, they are worth buying IMO...
I tried the a+a swaddle and gave up after tjw first day with DD. Velcro is so much easier and quicker and something DH can do too. DD loves them at 2.5yo now because theyre so soft and lightweight and great for sleeping with in the summer
I effing LOVE a+a swaddles, I really want to buy the Winnie the Pooh set but I can't bring myself to drop $50 on them. They are super great. There is always one in every room, in my car, in my diaper bag, in the stroller. Baby spit up? Lay baby on to change? Baby chilly? Throw over me while bf? These blankets do it alllll. Plus they are lightweight so I don't have to worry about baby overheating.
I love the A+A swaddles, or anything muslin. It gets so hot and humid here, I think it'll be a lifesaver this summer.
@SKZW Graham is beautifully squishy and looks so incredibly precious! I'm glad everyone is supporting you and checking in on your mental health as well as physical!
@sarah0985 Congratulations!! So glad Eleanor is on the outside and you're all doing well! She is beautiful.
I'm also a huge fan of a+a cotten lightweight swaddles, especially for summertime. They are great for nursing, throwing over infant carrier, and to use as a receiving blanket.
As as far as swaddling, at the hospital with DS our nurses used a 2 blanket system for a good, tight swaddle. You are not supposed to bring the hospital blankets home, but everyone does. I suggest stowing some away for swaddling at home.
The A+A blankets were meh to me, but it was just too cold when DS was born. They might be more useful for this LO. I did have my mom make a little clip to go around my neck to use one as a BF cover and not worry about it falling down and they worked for that.
@SKZW I may or may not have teared up at your photo. He is precious and it makes me so excited to meet my mr. AW away!
@wombthereitis I nurse without a swaddle and cover all the time, but I liked the a+a blankets for nursing in public (or at least for changing sides) bc they were so light weight.
I also like using nursing as an excuse to go to the back of the house when company sticks around too long.
@SKZW I'm not sure what noise just came out of me but he's so adorable!! Send more pics
I like the muslin because it's light weight, but I bought a ton of flannel swaddles for all the heavy work. One pack of A&A was my splurge item...unless I go back to TJ Maxx because they are cheaper there.
My FFWC my son sleeps every night with a A&A muslin blanket usually in his mouth. Yes my almost 2 year old sleeps with a blanket shoved into his mouth. Im a great mom... We used them as swaddles for about 6 weeks then he started to break out of them. I just bought the new ergo baby swaddles. They are like a straight jacket in the arm area and then a big sack you fold up around the legs but legs are still freeish to move. I guess the new thing is to not restrict their legs for hip issues or something... I just hope this lo doesnt end up 2 years later sleeping with her ergo swaddler in her mouth...
@Yiggle09: I love that! What a sweetheart! And hey, you're a great mom! His lovie could be something awful and gross but instead it's a soft breatheable blankie. I don't see a problem here!
ETA: Today is my due date! I've waited so long for this day and it's finally here. Pretty sure it's going to come and go since this LO is pretty comfy cozy inside. I'm trying to be patient but it's not really working.
I love A&A blankets especially for summer but never really used them to swaddle, I was horrible at it and DS didn't seem to like being swaddled anyway. I might see if the nurses can give me a better crash coarse this time around.
I love all the baby pictures posted today, they are all so cute!!
@Yiggle09 - DS is almost 4 and still sleeps with his blanket! He rubs the tags on the blanket and has rubbed giant holes in them, it's totally gross!
I didn't use A&A blankets for sleep swaddling. We did use them more as a "casual swaddle" around the house to calm DD (ala the Happiest Baby on the Block). At 3 1/2, she still uses them as a summer blanket for napping at daycare. I also loved them for all of the other things PP discussed above.
There's more swaddles in the swaddle/bedding drawer and in my nursing baskets around the house too. It might be a problem... and I'm 100% buying several floral and lemon ones if baby is a girl or boyish ones if baby is a boy.
We were gifted so.many.swaddles. I don't even remember the brands to be honest, but I know we have the muslin ones, some soft cotton ones, and maybe some flannel. Plus I made some which is why we didn't even have them on the registry, but got them anyway....oh well! Sounds like they can be used for multiple things! Oh and we have some swaddle me ones with the velcro just in case that is easier haha

We have SO many swaddle blankets, but we never use them for swaddling. I actually only swaddle at night (part of the nighttime sleeping cues that we use for early gentle sleep conditioning), and then we use the Velcro ones because they are awesome and easy and don't give me anxiety about the kiddo breaking free in the middle of the night. I do use swaddle blankets for a million other things (stroller blanket, snuggle blanket, cover for breastfeeding in public, etc), but I don't love the A&A ones that I have. I think they are overpriced and I've found plenty of others that are softer and cuter for less. I still use the A&A's, I just wouldn't buy them for myself.
Sorry to have disappeared! The delivery was incredible but it all wrmt down hill from there. Our plan for dd fell apart so dh wasnt at hospital much, 2 days after getting home sofie had to be readmitted. 4 days later she came back home and then i got a horrible case of mastitis and could barely walk bc i was so dizzy had a high fever that wouldnt break and was soooo achey, then sofie quit wanting to eat and after multiple appointments with drs and lc i was sent to ent and she was tongue and lip tied so we had that fixed and just yesterday violet got a fever and we were so scared the twins would catch whatever it was bc if they did they had to be readmitted again! My nerves are shot and im wanting just a few healthy days! But i missed yall and just wanted to let you know I'm still around!
