@Louise_Belcher I usually wash my hair every 3-4 days, but I've noticed I could definitely go longer now. It doesn't get greasy at the roots between washes anymore. I can't remember the brand off the top of my head, but I use a shampoo and conditioner without parabens and phthalates, and my hair feels a lot healthier. When it's really dry in the winter, I will condition my whole head to help with static, otherwise I just do below the crown. My hair is thick and has a natural, very loose curl. If I blow it dry, it straightens out and swoops at the ends. With a lot of humidity, it'll frizz a bit. I'm very low maintenance when it comes to my hair now, though. I don't spend time styling it daily. If I blow dry it, I can wear it down for the entire 3-4 days without a problem. It just keeps it's shape. If I let my hair air dry, I end up keeping it up the entire 3-4 days, because as soon as I sleep on it, it looses all shape and is a weird, jaggedy mess.

  • Thank you everyone for the tips!! I have been using dry shampoo on my off days and usually throw my hair in hot rollers everyday. I think I need to get a shower cap to use on off days, because despite my best efforts it still gets a mist when showering. If I could just stop touching my hair (nervous habit) I could probably go longer. I have greasy hair and touching it just makes it worse. I might need to push my hair limits when baby is here and go to every 3 days, but I cannot miss my morning shower or I turn into a massive grouch. What does everyone do with their hair while you are sleeping? I hate having it touch me while I am sleeping, but I get a massive kink if I wear it in a bun.

  • @Louise_Belcher I wash my hair weekly.  I used to be a daily washer, but then just stopped and extended the time between washes.  I have kind of frizzy hair, and it is kinda straight but kinda wavy, but I have to do something with it, because it does not look good on its own.  I blow dry it Sunday evenings and then straighten it Monday before work.  I will take a few minutes each day to restraighten anything that looks crazy before work the rest of the week.  By Friday mid-day I typically have it up, and Saturday's it is not pretty.  I don't use any products really, I just use regular shampoo and conditioner mostly because I'm cheap. I will use dry shampoo during the week if it looks gross. Most people are surprised when I tell them I only wash my hair once a week because apparently it doesn't look disgusting.
  • @WombThereItIs -  I don't have my last appointment until next Tuesdar, at 39w2d. I want to go as long as possible between appointments after LO is born!

@kayemjay2 - I've never had a baby scale but I have always wanted one! Although I do worry that I would obssess.

  • @RainyDays86 you do not need to apologize for being MIA! You've got some much on your plate that you need to take care of. We're just thinking of you and wishing you all the best!

As for hair washing...I have curly hair and have to use produce every day. I probably wash it like every other day or every 3 days or so. Basically I wash one day, the next day I'll spray it with water and add a little more product to keep it from totally frizzing out on me, then its either back in a headband or pinned with bobby pins. Its too short to pull up in a bun or I'd totally do that another day. Sometimes I'll go another day though and just wet it or pull it back and call it done. That's when I give no Fs! Usually on Saturdays when its just me at home while H is working haha maybe I'll shower and do my hair if we have plans, but usually I just wait until Sunday.

  • I'm also a once a week washer, sometimes twice. I shower every night with a towel over my head so my hair doesn't get wet and look greasy. I have some tresseme dry shampoo that I occasionally use. I usually put wavy beach curls in my hair with lots of hairspray and some teasing... 2nd or 3rd day hair is the best for me. Holds the curl and gets lots of volume. If I use a straightener on my hair it looks greasy, so I avoid that and I don't leave my hair in a pony at night time.

has anyone seen those curlers that were recently on shark tank? the sleep styler. I've been debating purchasing, I wonder if they work good...

  • @Louise_Belcher I haven't washed my hair in years. For real, my hair is a million times healthier than it was when I was using shampoo!  I do use conditioner a couple of times a week. I have super thick curly hair, so that is the only way I don't just have a giant puffball for hair.
  • I only shampoo like once a month. In between you can do a conditioner wash, which is exactly what it sounds like. Scrub your hair with conditioner and rinse thoroughly. It helps the hair to stay fresh without the oil-stripping shampoo. I can go about two weeks before it starts looking greasy and limp, and then I just pony/bun until It gets too gross and then shampoo. I condition every 2-5 days in between. This was recommended by my stylist, who I love.
  • It's so interesting how so many of you don't wash your hair daily. My hair is so thin and I can't even go a day. It looks super gross and feels gross!
  • @sweaterboots You crack me up with the brown smoke!
@Squirtgun & @llenadevida900  That is straight up impressive! I am far too greasy to only use conditioner and often skip it entirely or only put it on the very ends of my hair. I come by greasy hair naturally though. My father is like a duck. Water rolls of his hair and when I was young he had to wash it twice a day with dawn dish soap to prevent it from literally dripping oil! Luckily I didn't inherit it that bad. It would be nice to skip blow drying a few days a week though.

  • I am totally fascinated by those of you that only wash once a week of less! For a while I was washing every day, but my boss clued me in to the fact that frequent washing was what was likely causing the greasiness. I can go every two to three days now, but by day three I don't want to be seen in public. Maybe once this babe comes I can experiment with going a little longer between. I have really long hair so I spend a crap load on shampoo and conditioner.

  • @WombThereItIs -- I'm rolling the dice with a haircut appointment three days before my scheduled c/s. But it was the only date available so I took it! Now I'm trying to decide when to get my eyebrows threaded. They seem to require more upkeep than my hair!

@RainyDays86 -- Glad your team is
giving you some last-minute reassurance. It sounds like you're in good hands!
  • @RainyDays86 Glad you have a great team, including a good anesthesiologist. It sounds like everything is lined to go smoothly and well. Baby moving around is like a little cheerleader, rooting you on, right? We're here rooting for you!

As for washing hair, I can go a couple days without a washing, but those are pony/bun days. My hair loves to get greasy, though I've found that using sulfate-free shampoo helps a lot with this. I truly believe the product you use plays a roll. Since switching to sulfate-free my hair requires a lot less maintenance, I feel. I've also tried dry shampoo and am just not a fan. I'd rather just wash if I'm at that point.
  • Question: Does any one have a qualo ring? My ring is at the point where it does not go on and off easily, or feel comfortable most of the time. My fingers don't look swollen, but I have to bite the bullet and admit they must be. But, I don't want to go 5 weeks without a ring! (DH says, "it's okay, we'll be married again one day.")

@jayandaplus I don't have a Qualo but I bought a $50 temporary ring (1/2 size up) on etsy and it's beautiful, vintage-looking, and sparkly so it works for me temporarily!

  • @jayandaplus - I also just took my rings off! If I got too warm (which happens frequently these days), my rings would be uncomfortable. I feel weird without one and thought about looking on etsy or something....but I have no idea what my ring size is...haha

  • @jayandaplus I bought a cheapo silicone ring on amazon and put my real ones on a necklace while I was on antepartum and starting to get puffy.

  • @jayandaplus I just bought a plain sterling silver band off eBay for like $4 in the next size up. My fingers haven't swollen at all, but it has made me realise that maybe I should get my "real" ring resized...

@emilyalso he goes to both. This area is weird DH works for one company who owns 3 hospitals but also covers call at the 4th other company hospital. So almost all doctors have privledges at both. I called before to make sure though :)

@jayandaplus today is the first day I'm not comfortable wearing my rings. I have two soldered together and one that isn't so I'm wearing the one and so far it's fine. Eventually I will just go without. Only a few more weeks to go

yes! I love my! DH and I both have one. I rarely wear my real rings anymore ha.
  • @Louise_Belcher I'm the same way with my hair, I can't stop touching it. Which seems to make it greasy quicker. I do every other day, although I've been stretching it on the weekends with dry shampoo. I have noticed if I pull just the front/top into a little poof ans bobbypin I tend to leave it alone so I can go an extra day or so.

@jayandaplus my hands have been swelling since day one. So my ring has not fit since probably November. I have just gone without it. I meant to get a cheap temporary ring, but then just never did. At this point I'll just wait.

  • I wash my hair every 3-4 days.  It's naturally curly so I can usually mist it with water and restyle it pretty easily.  I've also noticed an improvement after switching to sulfate free products.
  • @mdlorenz and @bacorrea Does it have any give? I'm wondering if I should do a size 6 or 7... I think my ring size is 5.5-6 and today was the first day I couldn't get a ring on. I worry if I do size 7 it'll fall off. Thoughts?

It definitely does! It kinda of stretches with you, so a size might feel a bit tight but will eventually feel totally normal.
  • I took my rings off about 3 weeks ago. I put them on for Easter and immediately said "self, this was so stupid!" Luckily they came off in a cold hand washing but man was I neevous. I didn't even bring them to the hospital and it'll be a bit before I try to put them on again.
  • I made it last time without taking my rings off, and I'm hoping to again. Mine are a little bit loose prepregnancy, so maybe?

  • @SWE2 I too LOVE me some Einstein Bagel.  We used to have one right by my house but sadly it closed :( Now the only place to get it around here is at the airport. My DH knows if we fly out of that terminal we have to have enough time to stop and get my a bagel.  :)

@jayandaplus - I do not have one buy my DH does. He loves it especially because he can wear it when working out and it doesn't hurt his hand as much. My fingers too are quite swollen - I was able to find a ring in my jewelry box that fit, but I was tempted to go to the store and get a nice band type ring to hold me over.

I could have sworn we had a thread on this, but I can't seem to find it. Baby wearing? Any STM with experience wanna give their two cents? Trying to decide if I'd like it or go with a more "traditional" carrier?!
  • @rosemarylaff We did have a nice big thread of babywearing. I'll tag you in it.
  • Thanks @starphish18 I tried searching for it, but kept getting results from other BMB boards.

@jayandaplus I bought one for MH on Amazon for about $20. He likes it, but I have to get him a different size. You can find some pretty cheap ones on Amazon and they have all sorts of colors.

First world problem  my hospital doesn't have wifi, but I mean I'll happily go without for the whole free healthcare thing
Ha, I should probably take this mindset as well considering military hospital=free healthcare.
