Does anyone have experience with short term disability insurance, or writing an appeal letter?
Short version: I enrolled with STDI in October, before I was pregnant. I didn't have the physical until January, when I was definitely pregnant. I was denied STDI because of pregnancy. I figured this would happen, and wasn't surprised. However, a co-worker also enrolled and had her physical while 7 months pregnant. Her STDI was approved right before she went on maternity leave. Same insurance company, etc.
Wait, what?? I need to fight this, but I can't imagine putting "my co-worked was super pregnant and got approved" as a reason. The best I can come up with right now is that I was not pregnant when I applied. Google basically says, good luck! You're not going to win this game! I could really use the STDI, as I just started at this company a year ago and don't have much vacation/ sick leave. Any thoughts or suggestions?
@ColoradoHiker I would definitely go with "I wasn't pregnant when I applied" but if we could come up with a way to say someone else got approved without sounding like a bratty 6 year old, that would be good, too. Maybe something like "it has been brought to my attention that a fellow employee in a similar position was not denied."
ETA- why was your physical not done until 3 months later?
@ColoradoHiker I was just talking to my insurance company this morning. Do you mind me asking what the STD was for? Was it for Maternity Leave or something else?
@HollyGolightly09 Ha, good question. The third party company the insurance company contracts to do the physicals started calling me in mid-December (still not pregnant) to set up an appt. But, they kept saying they were booked for the next two weeks, and that was as far out as they scheduled appointments. So, by the time I actually saw someone, it was mid-January, and I was definitely pregnant then. They asked me if I was pregnant, and they had blood/ urine samples, so if I said no, they still would have known.
It must be the week for crazy FAcebook posts...a friend just publicly posted that she is so glad she's off birth control and went on to share that they are not trying but not preventing for baby #2. Like seriously. What makes anyone think that belongs on FB?!
@ColoradoHiker Then I would definitely mention that you had no control over when the physical was given, and had it been done in a more timely manner you would not have been pregnant.
@HollyGolightly09 That's a great idea, thank you!! I'm trying to think of everything I can to make a solid case for this, and I think that's a good point to include.

I think it's really only fair to include that someone 7 months pregnant got approved.... I can't understand why they'd deny you when you weren't pregnant when you enrolled and tried to schedule your first physical. I'll be the whiny six year old over here stomping my feet for you saying "ITS NOT FAAAIIIIRRR!!"

Ew. That would make me think about their sex life. No thanks.

I unfollowed someone on Facebook about a year ago for something very similar. Since that time, she has been a lesbian and is now pregnant... with a different man than the one she was "so excited to start trying" with a year ago.

It's people like that that really don't need to be having kids...
A friend of mine just posted on FB a video of her kid fully clothed in a bathtub (before adding water) with an exploded diaper aka poop all over the baby's stomach and chest. Like wtaf? Just give your kid a mother effing bath. You do not need to share that with the internet.

A girl on my friends list just shared a picture like this, baby's on his tummy and she's lifting up the back of his onesie to show the poop explosion. It's disgusting. Like yeah it happens but no need to share pictures on Facebook. It's literally poop. Come on people.
People share the most inappropriate stuff of their kids online. General rule of thumb: if you wouldn't share it about yourself, don't share it about your kid!
@wyomama0427 i think it could be considered neglect or something, like instead of just taking care of your kid you are letting them sit and soak in poop so you can get some likes on the internet. Staaahhhp. Just take care of your baby. People blow my mind.

Lolololol look guys I shit my pants and it's all over me so I'm going to take a bath!

Can this extend to naked photos? This might be an UO, but I really hate seeing naked baby butts on my feed.
@labby18 honestly whenever DS had poop-splosions he went straight into the tub, I don't want to set him down to take a picture and get poop everywhere.... that's just ridiculous. Because it really gets on everything.
I had a friend who was going through potty training and took a picture of her daughters POOP (like a full on babe ruth turd) on her hardwood floors, and posted it. Seriously?
Also, all the bathtime pictures...with the censors over the bits...HOW ABOUT YOU NOT POST THAT ONLINE. Send it to grandma and grandpa, but not the internet. I swear some people are asking for a predator to take their kids.
eta...babe ruth turd mom is now pregnant with #2...she is 6wks and is posting Bump topic stuff all over facebook. Ultrasounds, symptoms, questions about what to eat to fight nausea, etc...just info overload and shes only 6wks..i am going to have to unfollow her because it's unbearable.

Oh, I absolutely think so. I know I don't want my naked self, or pictures of me in my chonies all over Facebook. Your kid might not care now, but when they get a little older they probably will, and there's no way for them to give consent yet. This is actually a huge issue I have with a lot of mommy bloggers- so many random strangers know so much about their kids, and yet their kids have no idea all this personal info has been shared. There has to be a line somewhere.
Also, on the topic of naked pictures: A friend of mine recently found out that somehow a digital copy of an innocent family photo of her naked butt and back had made it into a seized database of child pronography, and no one knows how many copies of it are floating around out there. The photo was taken in the early 80s, and no one knows how it ended up where it did. She's well into her 30s, but that picture is still making the rounds. Then I think about how easy it is to just click and save any old random picture on Facebook- I've even done it on accident before. Yeah, there will be no naked pictures of my baby on the interwebs.

Oh my god that's terrifying. For real. The internet is a scary place.
@wyomama0427 - that is strange lol. don't get me wrong i love a good rainy gloomy day, to drink tea watch movies and be snuggly...but not to venture in it. lol
@zetega It's never too early to start learning about cloth diapers!! I just had my newborn collection delivered yesterday I'm totally set for the first 3 months hopefully!! Definitely spread it out over time.. the purchases. It's less expensive than disposable, but the all up front cost is still cringe worthy. There are sales that pop up on websites so join cloth diaper groups to find out when/where sales are! - sweet pea cloth diapers - Nickis diapers - Bumrite.com diapers - green mountain diapers Are just a few websites that I frequent. Nickis diapers sends you a free diaper if you spend 100-200. Not hard!
