Has anyone here used Lyft to arrange for someone else to be picked up? I was planning to pick my mom up tonight but she doesn't land for another 1:10 minutes and I'm fading FAST. Plus, she has a checked bag. I love her, but there is no way she would be able to figure out the service having never used it before and this late at night.
@HollyGolightly09 it's a 3hr ferry ride to seattle lol. I'm semi petrified just bc we have always been a dual income household and i plan on going back to work after baby, and theres not much on the island other than the base. But don't get me wrong it's GORGEOUS there. We shall see what happens.
My brother had that problem when his wife was stationed in Japan. He's an attorney and they were in a smaller area on a Marine base (she's Navy, but medical staff). If they had been near Tokyo, there would have been some American firms he could work for. He ended up getting a decent job on base. Maybe that's an option?
Our problem exactly. I am an NP and have my doctorate and the best I can do is volunteer at the medical group here....& then there's childcare for our current youngest--which costs over $150/week. There was supposedly a job available for me, but with the hiring freeze, who knows when that will happen. Being a dependent is tough if you don't have a job you can do from home or you have specialized training/degrees. @labby18 good luck! Start networking right away when you find out where y'all will be!!

@jutondreau Thats the hard part whatever we get now can change drastically in a few months if he picks up rank in august. And we move in November. I'm stressed out about it, DH is all oh we'll figure it out. I have my MBA in Financial Valuation and Investment Management. Which is really specific and kind of screws me over, especially with moving every 3 years. This isnt my 1st pcs so i know the drill, It's just most of the avail locations i either can't work there (over seas) or are such small towns that the income wouldn't male a difference due to child care costs. DH saw his sister yesterday. They are taking a night class together. She stopped him on the way out to complain that everything on our registry is expensive. First of all, that's not true. We registered for bibs, blankets, diapers, and pacifiers. I know that's not too expensive. Also, isn't that sort of the point? You register for the big ticket items in hopes that people will buy them for you. My mom is working on getting family members to go in together to buy most of the big stuff (crib, stroller, etc.).

And if she doesn't like what's there, go off registry. There's no rule that you HAVE to pick something from the list. I got tons of off-registry stuff and it was all awesome stuff I wouldn't have thought of but experienced moms found helpful. Or buy cute outfits, books, or toys. Shopping for a shower gift isn't that hard.
@bridge-and-wall I got each Nephew a cute stuffed animal when they were born. One of them (turning 10 next month) still has it, and always asks me if i remember giving it to him. He truly cherishes it. (i also was a teenager when the 2 older ones were born, sooo a lot of registry type items were not in my part time job at Subway or Pac Sun budget lol).
Side note - DH noticed I painted my toes yesterday and told me he really liked the color! (dark purple) and then noticed I vacuumed and actually said THANKS. Who is this man? What did he do with my husband?
@MyNamesTaken That's what DH told her. He said, you have a kid. Get something you think would be helpful. We don't even have a shower date or anything anyway. We just started the registry because we were at the store and we thought it would be fun. It was, by the way.
There was a friend of my husbands who had her first 2 years ago. She claimed she "popped" early at 8 weeks and it took everything in me to not roll my eyes and say, "no, you're just fat." She's pregnant again now and says she's popped earlier. I can't. That's not even physically possible, y'all.

People are annoying. A girl from my high school got pregnant our junior year. She walked around with her back arched, holding her lower back the day after she found out she was pregnant. Just don't.

+1 on the "people are the worst" train. My cousin (who purposefully got pregnant so her mom would have to let her drop out of high school and marry her baby daddy) swore she felt her baby for the first time at 7 weeks. With her second, she claimed it the day after her BFP.

DH and I were joking about my belly popping and my clothes not fitting. He jokingly said "don't blame me! It's not my fault" so I asked whose it was. His answer? "The fine folks at Doritos?"
Haha DH. Touche! It was so well delivered I had to laugh and I was indulging that craving at the time. Lol
One of my friends from HS is pregnant with her 2nd child...she's 6wks and she posted it on FB like "I just cant keep it a secret anymore" when she was 4wks. She is CONSTANTLY posting on FB about every symptom...I'm like you're 6wks...calm down. Find a pregnancy app/board. The whole interwebs does not need to know how hungry you are, how many times you gotta pee, etc etc. I'm about to unfollow. I just can't.

Glad you had fun! It's exciting picking stuff out for baby

LOL some people are so stupid. Feeling your baby the day after your bfp? Sure, if you found out at 6 months...
I'm waiting for my harmony results. (It's only been 7 days, 5 business days) I got a notification of a new lab result. I got so excited! I open my chart and it was my flipping pap results. Womp womp...

I don't know about you guys, but I felt the sperm enter the egg.
@Sugargirl1019 what kind of diapers did you get? I've started getting newborn simplex. I used cloth on both kids (dd2 is still in cloth) but never started until one size fit. I decided to try newborn this time around.

A girl I went to HS with announced when she was like 4w1d with a million hashtags. She has thousands of friends on FB. My PGAL brain was going crazy.
She's also a really obnoxious crunchy person who posts all the time. One was about visualizing and moving her energy to her belly to eliminate morning sickness. No need for drugs! #coolstorybro

The suuuuuper crunchy ones get to me. Especially the Beach Body people- not enough eye rolls in the world. One "friend" told me superfoods would cure my infertility, and also getting rid of my "sarcastic energy." She's a former friend now, because my sarcastic energy didn't mix well with her judgmental aura.
Same! my PGAL brain was like i hope this doesnt end badly, because she will plaster the internet with that stuff too. Her daughter was 3 weeks early and all the preemie stuff she posted for like 2 years was overwhelming. Like OKAY WE GET IT!
Speaking of the obnoxious-type crunchy people, I have a FB friend who's a chemistry teacher and also peddles Advocare. She says everyone needs a cleanse every 3 months to rid their bodies of toxins. PRETTY SURE THE KIDNEYS AND LIVER DO THAT EVERYDAY. I wouldn't be as annoyed by this if she a chemistry teacher who should know how the chemical processes in the body work...

Um, 3 weeks early, as in 37 weeks? That is not a preemie.

Oh wow sounds like she needs to park her sanctimony pony somewhere and dismount
Speaking of people trying to sell their products, I've had three friends talk to me about Shakeology and Plexus in regard to my pregnancy. I'm sorry, but no, I'm not putting that stuff into my body when it has never been tested. I understand how all the ingredients work separately, but just blended together into a "super food"? Nope.
Also in this train of thought, I really hate the super crunchy people who never go to doctors and are just going to deliver at home with a midwife. Hello! This is a baby. yes, I know people have been doing this for centuries, but moms and babies have been dying for centuries.
***TW*** I've just been thinking about this recently, because I've been following a friend of a friend on Facebook who just had twins at 24 weeks. One of them just passed away a few days ago. But she never saw a doctor even though twins are high risk, and just had a midwife who was going to help her do a home birth. Her midwife finally convinced her that she needed an OB on call in case something bad happened. She bled for two days and basically ignored her body's signals, because this was her first pregnancy and had no idea what was going on and didn't take the time to educate herself. Thankfully her midwife got her to a level 4 NICU, but she still wanted to give birth naturally to the twins! Natural is not the way to go in an emergency situation. Anyways, it's a very sad sad situation, but I feel like it was partly the mom's fault because she just went along as if everything was normal and everything would work out.

HAHAHA! This is my new favorite phrase. Also, yes, yes she does. She has become unbearable. She also uses her cancer story to sell her products, by claiming that superfoods kept her from needing radiation or chemo. Um, she had a cancerous cyst that was completely removed, and they told her she didn't need any further treatments, just annual check-ups. Funny how all the friends who were around then and might know that information are no longer a part of her life.
@mrsmarygs That's so sad. I feel like a lot of crunchy ideals push common sense to the back. Is it nice to use natural remedies when you can? Yes. Is it reasonable to forego proper medical care in the name of being natural? Noooo
There's a case in Canada right now about a child who died from meningitis. His parents shunned all modern medicine even after he was really sick and someone they knew (who was a nurse) told them she thought it was meningitis. They were criminally charged after his death. The dad got jail time and the mom got house arrest. I think they're appealing right now. They don't seem at all remorseful. Its heartbreaking that their crunchy ideals trumped the safety of their child.

@mrsmarygs There has to be a fine line of crunchiness and reality. I agree with you, I believe the mother is partly to blame, also I believe the Midwife should have pushed harder to get her into an OB at least for a consult. People scare me. I worked at a school that had an Alternative Medicine program, and the crunchiness was unbearable. I totally get Naturopathic Medicine and Osteopathic, but there is a time and a place. Sometimes modern medicine has to intervene because shit got real. I believe Alt Med can be used more as preventative medicine along side of modern medicine. Holistic approaches are cool and all, but you gotta be careful no matter what. There are so many things out there that are not regulated that people put in their bodies or are pushing on others to put in their bodies with no real research. There are all sorts of herbs and herbal medicines out there, but again wtf are they really and how do you know how you're body is going to react to it?!? I'm all about balance. I like holistic approaches to things, but you can't believe everything you read and you can't just blindly follow something and ignore all the warning signs of shit being bad.
uggggh i have sooo much on this subject I could vent for DAYS. Just don't be stupid.
