@kvruns I like the idea of trying it for a half hour or so, then giving in and holding/rocking, etc. I think I'll try that today.
@Ladybug2821 Same here! DD naps great with H, he just walks around with her for like 5 minutes and she's out! Too bad he's only home on weekends. I think 30-40 minute naps are still normal at this age, that's what DS did until 6 or 7 months as I recall, but he would at least take his 30 minute naps in his crib lol. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and hard place because I don't want to keep enforcing the habit of having her nap in someone's arms, but I also want her to nap and not get overtired lol. So tough. Luckily she is a pretty great night sleeper, the regression just hit her hard with naps.

my uninformed, FTM theory to the bolded is as long as the nightsleep isn't affected, I'm not super concerned with bad naps. (at least that is what I'm telling myself with daycare haha)
I usually put my Lo down for a nap and let him fuss for about 5 -10 min before going in and picking him up. 75% he'll fall asleep on his own. Most naps are 45 min, but usually one nap can be stretched out by popping a pack back in when he wakes up at the 45 min mark. Night is a whole other story, I'll put him to bed around 8 and he will always be up after 45 min, acting like I put him down for a nap. So when I try to put him back down after that it is such a huge battle! We r usually up till 10, and he is still only sleeping 2-3 hours a time at night so the lack of sleep is Real! Lol. I'm going to talk to his doc at his apt this week to ask what his longest stretch should be by now, I'm thinking probably like 5 hours and we will start sleep training by 5 months for sure.
@erniebernie1 I say that 5 hours is a bit optimistic if you are still in month four. It's a crazy time for mental development and growth so don't feel bad if your LO isn't sleeping long stretches. It will get better!
We have been doing the human swaddle over here. LO likes to sleep on his side, so if we hold his top hand effectively trapping his bottom arm/hand he can't scratch/rub his face or pull out his pacifier. He fights a bit, so I sometimes feel bad, but it's not too bad and he doesn't really cry. He just wiggles a bit and eventually falls asleep. Takes about 20ish minutes. It's kind of uncomfortable reaching through or over the crib slats and hunched over, but it's working for us for now!

But I love how the pedi says LO should be sleeping through the entire night. S still wakes up twice. Her first stretch is about 5 hours. I'm considering increasing the ounces per bottle she receives during the day so that will be when she gets most of her calories. Maybe she'll just wake up once like she used to.
S pretty much wakes up for the day at 6:30 but she starts stirring as early as 5. If I don't help her stay asleep, she will wake up at 5 which is way too early. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes but only on occasion. I usually take him into my arms and rock him for about 15 minutes which gives me another 45 minutes - an hour. I start work next week though so I like to look at this as DH's problem.
@ladybug2821 with my first she became a regular at waking up at 5:30 until she turned 3 then she started stretching it to 6 or 6:30. At some point I just had to stop fighting it and embrace my new normal.

yep if he wakes up at 5 or after it is a lost cause and he wont go back to sleep
@Ladybug2821 Yep! DD usually has her second wakeup between 4-5, nurses, and then goes back to sleep (but stirs a lot) until 6/6:30. This morning I was extra tired and DH had already gotten up so I brought her in bed with me and we both dozed until 7.

I think we are finally making it to the other side of the sleep regression, FX. Since Sunday S hasn't been throwing so much of a fit going down for naps. I decided starting tonight she needs to be out of the rock n play and in the pack n play until we transition her to the crib (more space and she seems to like laying on her side). Took me 10 mins to try to lay her down asleep because she kept waking up. Finally got her down and she startled herself awake. Let her cry a few mins while I did something. I came back and moved her to the center because she scooted to the top. She then stopped crying and rolled to her side. I just patted her back a little and she fell asleep! Hoping this becomes a pattern and isn't a two time thing. H said she fell asleep on her own earlier today. I will probably start doing drowsy but awake now since she's showing signs she will fall asleep herself.
I've learned if M's head is facing the monitor he will just lay on his belly and push himself up and stare at the light (on the monitor)regardless of how tired he is. Turn him the other way so when he pushes up he sees the wall he goes to sleep. If only I had figured that out earlier.
Layed LO down and walked way for the first time tonight. No noise since 7:30 when I walked out. I'm feeling freaked now that he's been so quiet, I hate the worry! Happy note - I did get ridiculously excited and jumped around saying "he did it!" to H after he fell asleep on his own. Go away worry brain!
How do you actually sleep train a baby that takes a pacifier to sleep? Would I just plug the paci back in on my checks? S just woke up and I let her cry for about 10 mins. She started in the middle of the pack n play horizontally and ended up against the side vertically with the paci all the way in the corner. She is already moving like crazy and I can imagine that causing an issue during sleep training also.

I always operated with if the pacifier fell out, it stays out, but it also want an issue with our first, nor does it seem to be an issue with this one (FX). It sounds like she is a very active sleeper, would limiting her mobility with a rolled blanket or something you're comfortable with help maintain that for the sake of sleep?

Yep we have it back as part of soothing him since it helped calm him (assuming he wasn't hysterical and it would fall right back out)
@SandNStarsNJ Once she's asleep she stays pretty still on her side. It's just when I'm letting her cry to see if she'll fall asleep on her own that she does all that moving so I'm not even sure if a rolled up blanket will help.
@kvruns I'm just wondering if when she wakes in the MOTN and the pacifier is out, will it cause an issue with her putting herself back to sleep?
@Ladybug2821 DS was/is a big pacifier guy. He still sleeps with one. I didn't really do any "sleep training" until he was about 9 months old though and was able to find his pacifiers and put them back in his mouth himself. Starting at about 6 months I would just put him to sleep with about 5/6 pacifiers surrounding him so he wouldn't freak out if he couldn't find one. He would pretty much just reach out his arm and one would be there.
@Ladybug2821 for my guy the pacifier falling out only affected him early on , like if it fell out and he wasn't quite asleep. Once he's asleep and it is out he doesn't notice and ends up flipping and flopping on it anyway
@mrsmoose5 I've read about doing that and will probably buy a few more for just that.
@kvruns I think since S falls asleep with it in her mouth, she expects it to be there when she wakes up so she will start crying until we give it to her.
We are on day 2 of no naps. And I mean literally NO naps. Not even five minutes. I've tried rocking, nursing, white noise, dim room, pacifier, crib, holding, DockATot, bouncy chair ... NOTHING. She is a nightmare and clearly so tired, but she absolutely will not nap. I'm losing my effing mind and I've never been an advocate of CIO but I seriously just want to put her in her crib and let her cry. She's hysterical whether I hold her or not at this point, soooooooo ....
Not to interrupt anything but I'm on mobile and I may have hit report on someone's comment. Not even sure what would happen or what that would look like, but if anything weird happens know I didn't mean it!

Normally there is a pop up and you have to write a description and then send. So you are probably good.
Well I feel really bad about my last post and for being so annoyed with DD not napping the last few days ... she is sick! Runny nose, low fever, cough. She could barely sleep last night and I've been wearing her in the Solly wrap most of the day today while she naps. Poor bug :-(
Well when I put DD down for bed her eyes popped wide open so, with no real agenda in mind, I decided to just leave her and see how it goes. It's been 30 minutes and she hasn't cried yet, but also hasn't fallen asleep ... it's past 9 p.m. ... wondering if I should go help her to sleep or just leave her until she cries ... hmm ...
I decided to wait it out a little longer and she came so close to falling asleep on her own! I watched her eyes close several times and it seemed like she was drifting off, but then she startled and woke herself up a few times and eventually cried. I held her for a few minutes and then she slept her longest stretch in a week - 5.5 hours, yay! Now she's been up every hour since 3:30, but still, that 5 hour stretch was amazing, especially since I went to sleep right after putting her down :-)
Something similar happened for me last night. At 4am I heard J stirring but didn't jump up to get him. For 40 mins he tossed and made little noises but didn't cry. Then after40 mins he started actually fussing so I went in. Took about 15-20 mins but I got him back asleep and now it's 7am and he's still sleeping! He never sleeps this late. I'm up pumping ha ha.
S woke up about 40 mins after being put down for the night. I was about to go in the room but decided to wait. She cried for 7 mins and then stopped. I was kind of paranoid because she has never done that before. I made myself wait a few mins before going in and when I did she had put herself back to sleep. First time ever!! It's crazy how happy this makes me.
