LO likes sleeping on his tummy, which makes me nervous but he's sleeping very well. Even more nerve wracking is that he seems to like sleeping with his face burrowed into the mattress face down sometimes. I hate when I go to check on him and his face is smashed into the mattress!
That's how DH STILL sleeps. It freaks me out. And now DD has developed the same habit. LO and I are side sleepers.
How can I get LO to sleep in later? She goes to bed around 7 and will be up for the day chatting between 4-5. If she has a motn feed after 2 I might get a 5:30 wake up, but that is it. I've tried moving the bedtime up and back but it hadn't altered her big wake up time.

Following. I have this issue also. H keeps telling me to put her to bed later but I told him that will not work. I was able to prove him wrong today. His family is in town and S didn't get to bed until 10 and still woke up at 5am.
Do you think that works backwards? M sleeps 6-9 hours but goes to bed at 11 or so. I'm terrified to get him to bed earlier in fear he will be up like 3 am for the day. At least I can function sleeping 1230 until sometime between 7-830

can you feed at the 4/5am and put back to sleep for a couple hours?

This is still true for our town year old and it took almost two years for DH to agree with me. The later they go to bed, the earlier they wake up.
@kvruns Sometimes I can nurse at 5 and maybe get her to sleep until 6/6:30 but not always. She usually wakes at 4 to nurse so if she did, then I don't even attempt at 5.

For some reason it seems when they set their body clock to that time, that's what it is. I told him going to bed later won't change it. I *think* he understands now.

I didn't move S's bedtime until she started waking earlier in the morning. As a newborn, she woke up at 9/10am so her bedtime was 10ish. She gradually kept waking up earlier and earlier so I adjusted her bedtime earlier to make up for the lost time. I don't like that she goes to bed so early at 6:30 because that limits my time with her after I get home from work. I wish she was more on an 8-8 schedule. If it were me, I probably wouldn't mess with it since he sleeps good stretches unless he starts waking earlier.
can you feed at the 4/5am and put back to sleep for a couple hours?
At most I can get a 30 min naps worth of sleep at that point. But more often than not if I try at that time I just get a lot of crying.
gotcha. 5am seems to be the tipping point here, if he is up there it is unlikely he will go back to sleep or it will take just as long to get him back to sleep as he will continue to sleep.
S goes to bed between 9 and 10, and wakes up at 1, 3, and 5. I usually put her into bed with me at 5am otherwise she is up ready to start her day. Then she sleeps for another 3 hours. I'm still not 100% comfortable with the co-sleeping even if it just for a few hours. I do breastfeed at the same time. I just wish there was a better way to have her sleep longer. Trust me, I've tried.
Another reason I noticed S wakes up at 5 is because she is pooping. Its usually a big poop because she doesn't poop during the night. If that happens, she's definitely awake for the day.
I'm still leaning towards sleep training the weekend of memorial day because I have a 4 day weekend and S will be 7 months/31 weeks. According to the wonder weeks schedule, she won't be going through any leaps during that time and its suppose to be sunny times lol. But I've heard of a sleep regression that can occur between 8-10 months, so I wonder if I'm jumping the gun and starting too soon. Or will her being able to put herself to sleep help her through that. I just need her to start sleeping better. Last night we had 7 wake ups, and only 2 were to nurse. Luckily 2 of the wake ups were before I went to bed but 5 is still too much compared to the 2 she used to have. I'm also wondering why she keeps waking up an hour after being put down for the night. This is still happening often even with the windows being blacked out.
If S is waking up that much I'd definitely do sleep training sooner rather than later @ladybug2821 Maybe she will have a regression later but I'd give it a shot. Mine has been having some wakeups 1-2 hours after going to bed which is not normal for him. Last night I thought it might be because he was hot since it was a warm day and his room gets extra warm (and extra cold)
@Ladybug2821 Since I tried the sleep training for two nights she's back to only waking once between 1am and 3am, and then again at 5am (when I put her in bed with us) and for good at 8am. It's way better than the every hour she was doing for a good 5 weeks. Though she sleeps in her swing (we had to use the swing for severe reflux the first 3 months) and I wish I could transition her in the pnp. She does sleep in pnp for naps (2hrs) and it works well after the sleep training. I'm not pushing it at night because she hates it and it's back to waking every hour. But I have to try again soon because of the week long vacation where I can't bring a swing next month. Baby steps right? I'm wondering if the waking every hour thing was part of a leap? I don't have the app so I don't really know. I keep saying teething, but I've been saying that for 2 months now and no sign of teeth. My first never had sleep issues like this, but she didn't have reflux and colic either. Good luck and I hope your little one gets back to sleeping on a good schedule again soon.
@camcbeth It very well could be a leap. Check out the leap thread. It shows the weeks that leaps fall on so you'd be able to see if she's falling into that time right now.
So I ditched the Merlin suit tonight. DS turned 5 months today and is 20 lbs. The suit says it's max weight is 21 lbs. He was busting out of the large size suit anyway because he is tall so I figured might as well just transition. So now I have him in footie pj's and a wearable blanket. Fingers crossed!
@kvruns it was ok. He woke up three times and nursed back to sleep pretty easily. I have hopes it will get better as he gets used to it. He also didn't eat as much yesterday since it was his first day at day care so maybe he was hungrier than normal too. I'll confess I still used a muslin blanket to swaddle his arms. I know it will be another transition once he starts rolling but it was a loose swaddle, just enough to keep him still for the first few mins but not too tight so he couldn't wiggle out of it pretty easily.
We ditched the Merlin too! He's in a zipadeezip now and it works pretty good. He rolls now but can't roll back over. So I'm sure it will be interesting until he learns how to roll back over! Just when I think I have something figured out, they change something up on us
I still can't decide if I want to try the Merlin. He's swaddled with arms out and doing fine but I know he will be too long for the swaddle soon and not sure what then
@kvruns I got one a while ago and Nick was too little for it and haven't tried it again because he is now sleeping from 730p to 5a.. I still have it but will probably never use it.

That's the same thing here. He was too little at first and screamed the one time I tried it. I just wasn't sure if it would help get him out of the swaddle and into Pjs.
My twins stopped getting swaddled months ago? .. They just kept breaking outta them! So the sleep pretty much spread eagle with a blanket over them. I kinda want to start transitioning them to their cribs but I'm not sure if they are old enough For that yet since they wake up for food often enough in the night.
@kvruns- If he's doing fine with his arms out of the swaddle, I think he should be fine without the merlin suit. Once E adjusted to the no arms swaddle she has been fine with sleep sack or sleep gown. If his startle reflex isn't bugging him now, he should be good.
@lajoliedreamer I thought about trying a sleep sack - I have some long sleeve ones (Carters I think) but they're fleece and I'm not sure it will work for summer
I have a long sleeve fleece one and a sleeveless one and tend to use the sleeveless with a onesie underneath. It's chickpea brand (though I got it as a gift and I don't know from where). That said, I love the sleep gowns more. She runs warm so having her feet out keeps her from overheating. (I'd post a pic, but of course tb app is still not working right.)
eta: The gowns also give her instant access to her feet when she wakes up which can keep her occupied and give me more time to snooze/shower/etc.
Speaking of gowns and sleep sacks, anyone know of a brand that has the hand covers? I realized S doesn't need to be in a zipadee just needs something that will cover her hands so she doesn't scratch her face and head up. I'd rather find something like that then spend $40+ on another zipadee.
The gowns we have use have hand covers - another bonus! We have a couple gerber brand and a couple carters. We have also layered the gowns under the sleeveless sleep sack when we wanted the extra warmth, but also the hand covers.
@lajoliedreamer we have a bunch of those we used when he was first born thinking it would be easier for diaper changes. Hadn't thought about using them now but I guess it does kind of make a sleep sack
B is currently sleeping on his side for the first time ever. Not sure if he didn't quite make it when he tried to roll over or he just wants to sleep this way. I predict 1-2 wake ups overnight as he gets stuck on his belly
edit: yup already got flipped over and stuck and mad. Put him on his back and he's back to his side already.
How do you deal with the rolling? I'm sure he will get better at going back and forth I mean he's been going from belly to back since Jan but seems to have amnesia
@kvruns they eventually get used to sleeping on their belly is my experience and stay there. Once DD started sleeping on her belly her sleep really improved too. DS still isn't there yet.
I'd agree with @rspalding001, LO doesn't roll much front to back for some reason. He often rolls to his stomach and gets stuck but loves sleeping on his stomach now.
I keep telling myself next week I'm going to try LO in her crib... But I can never seem to. We love sleeping next to her and I'm afraid I'd miss her too much... Plus the trouble of having to "train" her to be content there.. It's so overwhelming!

I subscribe to the "each to their own" philosophy but I will tell you I have a friend like that due with her second LO in June and her almost 3 year old will not sleep outside of her bed at this point.
I put my oldest in her crib in her own room at 6 months. She did great. However, we went on a family vacation a few months later and she thought it was so great to sleep in her pnp In The same room that she never went back. It was a fight. So for the next year she slept in the pnp at the foot of our bed. We even tried to make a big deal about turning her crib into the toddler bed, it worked for a night. She always ended up on the floor in our room. We moved and she slept on the floor of the living room outside our room (the apartment master bedroom was too small) and now that we are in a house and she has a big girl twin sized bed, she is still ending up on the floor in our room. It's defiantly been a battle with her. My husband works at night so she even ends up in bed with me. She's 4.
I kept wavering about whether or not to use the Merlin suit but now that LO is rolling over to his belly I don't think I could use it anyway. Does the Merlin suit stop them from rolling? seems like it would be tough to roll in
