Re: March IUI

  • @Cinnamonn - I'm here! Thank you for starting the board. :)

Right now, looks like I will be doing IUI#2 on Mar 1 or 2nd, which means I'd know around Mar 15.

Right now, I have a LOT of travel dreams. My number 1 choice is Japan, but we might go to Scotland or France instead. I've travelled a lot more than DH; there are lots of places I want to go that I've never been, but I don't think we'll go until he's had a chance to do some of the things I've already done, like eat our way through Paris. Last week, I was fantasizing about Italy... Bah! I don't think we're going to do much travelling for a while, though.
  • Loading the player...
  • I am not sure if I'm here or Feb - my IUI will be either at the very end of Feb or the very beginning of March - I'm starting to suspect March since this is my first month on Clomid and my period lasted several days longer than normal - wondering if this means the whole cycle will be longer or not...

IUI number: This will be IUI #2.

Date of planned IUI: To be confirmed on 2/22 - I believe it could be anywhere from 2/27 to a few days later than that.

Testing: My clinic has you do an HPT after 14 days, no blood testing until you have a +.

What was your first thought when you woke up this morning? "How many more days do I have on Clomid?  Ugh.  Not zero."

Best compliment you have received? That I have my grandma's spirit.  She grew up in Germany during the war - I would love to be half the woman she was, someday.

If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?  The exact same meal?  Probably pizza because I am mentally 20 years old.

What country do you dream of visiting?  Not a country, but I'd like to get back home more often - the Virgin Islands.  Since I moved up here to the states, I don't get back very often, and I really miss it.

  • @funkykey Its funny, my choice is Japan! but right now it is hard for us to plan also, as everything is tight up to my cycles. But hey, we have a whole life ahead!
Didi your AF show up? Are you taking any meds this cycle?

@pawcall  Well, your TWW falls on March were in it together)
I love your best compliment  and pizza answer cracked me up!) I swear Im the same, I can't believe I'm turning 30. Wow Virgin Islands, I have to add that to my list!

On my end I have a question. I have done HSS last month and this cycle I'm going to do HSG. Have you done those? Is everyone with IF required to do these procedures?

And oh, here are MY answers:

    IUI number: 3

    Date of planned IUI:
    March 3?

    Testing: hate that day. 14DPO

What was your first thought when you woke up this morning? I had a dream that I took a super futuristic pregnancy test and I dot a BFP and there was also a word "triplets" written on it) And I was thinking if I could ask the doctor to "undo" one child? so stupid.

Best compliment you have received? That Im the best wife!

If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Korean BBQ! my fave, can eat it every single day.

What country do you dream of visiting? Japan and Iceland

  • @Cinnamonn - AF did start - after a whopping 32 day cycle, my longest since TTC. CD5 today, so I'm on track for a Mar 1/2 IUI. I will have to update my signature.... I'm on 100mg clomid/day. I dragged my heels before taking it - I'm not loving the clomid.

Also - OMG, no one has every complimented me on being the best wife. Hahaha.

My aunt once told me I was a "very capable young woman". It wasn't just the compliment itself, but that it was paid to me during a vulnerable time, and gave me such confidence. By far the best compliment I've ever received.
  • I am so confused about this cycle. And, IDK, maybe the past year of "well timed" sex was horribly timed.

I'm CD10 today, going in for an US on CD12, and I just looked back and saw that last month, we IUI'd on CD13.  Fertility Friend is predicting that I'll O on CD15.  I remember this happening last month too, that FF predicted O a day or two later than it actually happened.  I've always used OPK's but feel like I never turn it "totally positive" just "darker than the other times I've tested" - I guess maybe I'm clinging to hope that it's not hopeless for us, we just haven't been timing things as well as we thought.

ANYWAY, if last month was any indication, I'll be IUIing in Feb and TWWing in March with you lovely ladies.  Although we added Clomid this cycle, so who knows what kind of wrench that'll throw in the works.

  • Hello everyone!  Here we go again, eh?  Hoping and praying for BFPs for all of us!

IUI number: IUI #2, but 5th medicated cycle (First using Menopur)

    Date of planned IUI:
    TBD

Testing: I'll probably starting testing out trigger on 8DPO cause I'm crazy.

What was your first thought when you woke up this morning? "How is it already time to wake up?"

Best compliment you have received? That I make my husband a better man.

If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Probably pizza, cause yum.

What country do you dream of visiting? France and England! (Or anywhere in Europe)
    Me: PCOS   DH: No issues

    August '16-January '17: Clomid + HCG + IUI/TI = BFN
    February/March '17: Menopur + HCG + IUI = BFN
April '17: Menopur + HCG + TI (due to too many mature follicles) = BFN
May '17: Took off due to cysts
June' 17: Menopur + HCG + IUI = Cancelled due to 8+ mature follicles
    November '17: Clomid + HCG + IUI= BFN
    December '17: Menopur + HCG + TI= BFP!!!! Due August 2018

  • Hope everyone is doing well.  I'm still feeling kind of crazy, way too much in my head.

Yesterday at CD12, no useful follies on my L side, and on my R side - a 17, a 14, a 12, two 11's, and an 8.  I'm told they need to be at least 18-19mm at O time.  If they're all still maturing and growing at 1-2mm per day, I guess I could have anywhere between 2 and 5 mature follies.

I'll go back in on Friday (CD 14) to recheck follies and if they're good enough, they'll have me trigger Friday night for IUI Sunday morning (CD16).

This is looking like a far longer cycle than normal - last month we IUI'd on CD13, and clearly I'm not ready yet.  So while tentatively scheduling a 2/26 IUI, I am not sure how much the clomid may still lengthen the process.

  • @pawcall- my first cycle on clomid was short, 26 days, and I ovulated on CD14, first detecting the surge on CD 13. Regularly, I ovulate on CD14 and have 28 day cycles.

Not last cycle tho - my second clomid cycle. It was 32 days and I ovulated late on CD 15. Not sure if you remember? I was freaking out!

Anyway, that sounds totally normal to me- climit sucks. Best of luck to you this weekend! FX!
  • @funkykey - in the non-creepiest way possible, that's exactly what I keep thinking of, how clomid threw a wrench in your cycle.  I'm really hopeful that it won't, especially at a low dose, but who knows, right?  The body is a wacky thing.

I did an OPK this morning (because of my serious paranoia of missing my O) and it's obviously negative, a second line but really faint, which makes me feel better about not being rechecked until tomorrow morning.

My poor FI is dying - I told him to - ahhem - abstain leading up to my appointment yesterday because of how early we IUI'd last cycle.  I didn't want him having his own fun and then having a crappy sample if we had to IUI today.  Well, we don't have to IUI today, but since I'm going back tomorrow and figuring out the IUI date, I still want him abstaining - his count was okay but not amazing (i think last IUI it was 36 mil post wash) and his morph is so low, I want him to save up the best sample he can.  Poor guy.

  • @pawcall - haha, glad my sharing was of service. I was so paranoid I was going to miss the surge, it was such a relief to hear the clomid with longer cycle was normal. For real, I was taking OPKs 3x a day!

My doctor recommends that my DH has ejaculated between 2-5 days before the IUI. More than that, and we risk quality- I'm always fretting about that 5 day cap, particularly if your O is 3 days later than usual...

    GL! FX!

  • How's everyone hanging in?  Hopefully there are some IUI's upcoming very soon!

The nurse did the insemination. She had a little trouble locating my cervix, (wonder if that has been contributing to issues conceiving?) DH stats were great today! Pre-wash 177 mil with 54% motility, 2-3 rate. Post wash, 25 mil with 88% motility with a rate of 3+. Fingers crossed!! I stayed laying down for 12 mins afterwards. Hope that was long enough.

@funnygirl34 What dose of menopur are you taking for this cycle?

  • @Imajin99 I'm on 150! I've done my 5 days so far and my E2 was 185 this morning. Waiting to hear from my dr to see what's next.  This is my first cycle so I have no idea if 185 is good or bad.
    Me: PCOS   DH: No issues

    August '16-January '17: Clomid + HCG + IUI/TI = BFN
    February/March '17: Menopur + HCG + IUI = BFN

June' 17: Menopur + HCG + IUI = Cancelled due to 8+ mature follicles
    November '17: Clomid + HCG + IUI= BFN
    December '17: Menopur + HCG + TI= BFP!!!! Due August 2018

  • @funnygirl34, is E2 the same as Estradiol level? That is what my clinic measured last time I was on Menopur. I think my Estradiol level was about the same as your E2 when they tested around the 4 day mark. I was on a higher dosage of 225IU (3 vials). I will be starting them tonight for the March cycle.
  • So, went in for an ultrasound this morning and had worse results than expected- "overmature" follicles.

I have 4 follicles on my right ovary: 33.95mm, 26.20mm, 32.09mm and 18.97mm. Which means a couple of those are likely too big. (And painful!) They triggered me on the the spot; hopefully I have at least one viable egg in there.

I am kicking myself for not calling them on CD12 (when I hadn't seen a surge) and requesting an ultrasound on CD13. I haven't been very pushy with my clinic, and now that I've seen the overmature follicles, I will not make that mistake again. Time to be a little more high maintenance.

For those of you who are numbers junkies (I'm becoming one, always looking for clues) - my estradiol is about 1400 pg/mL, my LH is 20.22 IU/L and my progesterone is 11.88 nmol/L.
  • @funkykey Sorry to hear that, at what size is a follicle considered overstimulated?
  • @lmajin99 - I think when they're bigger than 25mm, it's cause for concern - certainly 30 is BIG.

Hi Girls, how are you all? This month was a little tough for me and I didn't really want to talk or think about IF that's why I haven't been around.
So I have done my IUI yesterday, feb 28th. I took a bunch of medicine and a trigger. And also HSG that might help.  The doctor said things never looked better and he's almost surtain it's going to work this time. H could not get a smile off his face but I'm not that positive. I'm worried that I came to IUI on my lunch break from work and that day was really thought for me, my boss yelled at me in from the of client and I could not hold my tears at the doctors office. And was crying and was  stressed throughout the procedure( but anyway, let's see what happens, I have told H that this is the last IUI I'm doing, we are considering IVF now.

@funkykey I'm sorry to hear that, but why is is bad? I always thought the bigger the better. Or your concern is the chance of triplets?

@manders85 10 min is more then enough, FX for you! I have trouble with the cervix as well, as it is "curved". They say it does not effect fertility.

@Paisley2015 thank you for your kind words! We are skipping next round as well, H has booked a trip to Paris, so if we get BFN again I don't go kill myself. And I want to believe that I will be one of those who "just relaxed and let it all go on vacation" and got pregnant lol) hope it's your case!

@Imajin99 I'm with you on Pizza))

@pawcall what are the news on your side? When are you IUIing?

Oh hey and I was lurking on February board and it looks like they had only few positives in the beginning as did we in January. Hopefully they will get a couple more! FX FX FX

  • @funkykey, I had no idea follicles that were TOO big were an issue! WHAT? That's a thing? I think it is good to advocate for yourself and my guess is one of them would have been viable so it was still worth a shot. I'm curious as to your response to @Cinnamonn 's question about concern for triplets versus 'over stimulation.' I am a bit paranoid about triplets or multiples with our three mature follicles.... but really I just hope we get lucky enough for one this round! Beggers can't be choosers though so if it's multiples, it's multiples! I haven't seen much of that on these boards though so I think stats are pretty low at like 8% - 10% on clomid, right? My RE had me and my husband sign a waiver for multiples after our last U/S with three mature follicles so that freaked me out a bit although I'm sure it's just standard practice to protect themselves.

@Cinnamonn it is hard to feel good about a cycle if you're stressed. In case you're interested in my methods to remain stress free during my 2WW, I'm trying meditation youtube videos in my headphones and meditation playlists on spotify. They're actually super relaxing even though i'm not really 'meditating' in the traditional sense. Maybe you can just try to relax now and let your body do it's thang? Idk, just a thought. It's so much easier said than done though.

  • @funkykey Thanks for the info, last time I had 1 follicle measuring 26 and RE didn't mention anything but I remember being concerned that it may be too big.
@Cinnamonn Sorry you are feeling stressed.  As Manders85 mentioned meditation and deep breathing can be relaxing.
  • @Cinnamonn - sounds stressful at your work, but I don't think you being upset before/crying during the procedure will have any bearing on its outcome. I've had months where we've tried and I've been super optimistic, and months where I've been really down, and I've had the same result regardless. Luckily there is no link between mood and fertility. ;)

@Manders85 - I didn't think "too big" was an issue either. And then I was like: "Of course, of course it is, and it's happened to me. Grr."

I am not worried about multiples at all. I was the last two courses of clomid - and even the last IUI, because my estrogen was so high (I likely had several mature follicles), but not this time - maybe because after all these BFNs it feels like I'll never get pregnant with any baby, much less two or more?

I've read that less than 1% of clomid pregnancies are triplets or above, so the odds of that are really low.

My follicles are big enough there'd be a worry they're cysts - because my estrogen is so high, it looks like they're not (luckily). (A baseline u/s next cycle will tell me for sure.) Apparently there's also a worry that if your follicle is too big, it will begin secreting progesterone, which can affect your lining. My progesterone is higher than it was last cycle.

In any event, I'm pretty upset that they didn't have me come in to check sooner. Now knowing that overmature follicles are an issue, next time I'd like to trigger when they're between 18-25. I'm pretty angry that I've done all the work to grow these puppies, and that three of them are now much bigger than ideal. I feel my clinic has let me down; I feel like I can't trust them to take charge and do what's best for me.

My husband keeps telling me to not catastrophize/get ahead of myself, but last night, I was like: "Is it even worth paying for the IUI and going in if my follicles are not going to give us quality eggs?" I feel certain we will have another BFN this cycle. I'm gutted already, and we won't do the IUI until later this morning.
  • @funkykey - I am so frustrated for you.  My RE's office is a hot mess, as you probably remember, but thankfully they haven't done anything that screws up my forward progress.

I guess I'm surprised at how much I need to be the driver of everything.  I sort of expected that I'd go into the RE's care and they would direct the plan and manage it along.  But no, I feel like everything falls on me.  Typing that out, I feel like an idiot - it's my body and I'm the one who wants to get pregnant - I guess I just thought I wouldn't have to so actively manage the process.

I had my IUI Saturday and I remember last month, the doctor who did the IUI (not my RE) told me to call and schedule 7DPO bloodwork to check progesterone.  I asked at the IUI if I should do that again and shes said no, if it was fine last month it was fine this month and no need to check.  Well, on a whim, I called my RE yesterday to confirm and he was like NO, you DEFINITELY need that bloodwork.  Well what the heck!?  What if I hadn't called?  I realize this isn't the end of the world, but like, what if this is the cycle that it worked, and my progesterone was too low because nobody checked it?

Ugh.  I'm so sorry this happened to you, but really glad that it sounds like you should still have at least one good egg.

@Cinnamonn   - so good to see you!  I can understand why you'd need a break, this really does wear on you.

I IUI'd on Saturday (2/25) and the doctor was really positive, just like yours.  Kept saying things like "what a great day to get you pregnant!" and "this is a fantastic sample, let's go make your baby!" - kind of weirded me out, and has really gotten FI's hopes up.  As usual, I'm a downer, and positive it didn't work.  I'm 5dpo and not feeling anything worth noting, except for a 3 day long migraine.

Part of me just doesn't want to keep doing this.  IUI feels like so much work with so little chance of success.  If IVF were an option for us (it isn't), I'd be pretty anxious to move along.  As it stands, IUI is the end of the road for us, so I guess we have some decisions to make about how much we put ourselves through.  And, this is the bitter side of me, when I say "we" I secretly don't feel like HE is being put through anything at all.  And that makes me feel all angry, and then I feel petty and horrible.

  • @pawcall I really hope this cycle works for you and you don't have to go through another IUI. I am surprised that any RE would talk so optimistically and cause false hope but I do believe being positive will help us all on our journey.

I had my baseline ultrasound to ensure that I didn't have cysts and I am good to go and started my Menopur last night.  The ultrasound at 2 days into my cycle was showing a follicle measuring 15.15 & 9.48 which I thought was rather large considering I will be on the medication for possible 8 days before I IUI.  I do go in for another ultrasound tomorrow after 2 days of the medication which I didn't last time so I wonder if it is because of the follicle size.

Also wanted to thank everyone in this thread and on this site, I have learned so much in the past few weeks from you ladies as compared from reading online and even from my own RE.  I am able to ask questions and understand my body and this process a lot better now. Thank-you!

  • Whoa that sounds huge for CD2!  This cycle, my biggest (17mm) wasn't that size until CD12!

  • @pawcall I know!! My RE didn't say anything about it but this time they only gave me 3 days of medication and told me to come in for US. Last time I was provided with 8 days of medication and I didn't have the US and blood work was at CD8.

Exactly! I mean, it's my body and I'm the one who wants to get pregnant...

But then I also think I'm paying my clinic a lot of money. It's not like they're doing me a favour - they are getting paid and I am the customer, you know?

Last night, I was so aggrieved, I even thought maybe they aren't paying attention to me on purpose because they want me to pay for IVF. I was like: "those crooks!"

DH was like: "Let's not get ahead of ourselves; they're probably just lazy." Then we talked about some of our friends who work in medical support roles and are kind of lazy - like friend x would eff something up not because he/she had nefarious intentions, just because they're kind of phoning it in. It made me feel a smidgen better.

ETA: I'm extra upset because they wouldn't have given me an u/s if I hadn't asked - I had to ask for an u/s and bloodwork earlier. Realize I hadn't been clear about this above.
  • @manders85 doctors are requiered to let you know that you have a chance of multiples, that's what our  told us this cycle. (And now my H has already planned our life with twins)) in regards of the meditation videos- I think that's a great idea, I'll try it, thank you!

@funkykey thank you, I'll try to keep positive, won't hurt either way)

so so you are still going to proceed with IUI? Why do you think your chances are not that good? Espesially with a few follicles?

@pawcall They have never asked me to schedule progesterone test 7dpo, why do you think they don't tell me anything? Should I ask them for it? What is this test for?
Sometimes we think H's are not supportive and they don't understand, but what I realized it that if they don't cry when you get BFN or stress about your O it doesn't mean they don't care. That just don't express their emotions!

  • We did the IUI today.

@Cinnamonn - I think my chances are low because of the "overmature" follicles - it wasn't a good screening. But we decided to proceed, just in case. Hopefully the little one will come through for us! FX!
  • @funkykey you never know, you know how life works, so unpredictable...but FX for you, I really really want all of us to get our BFPPP!

And here is is a question to everyone: do you drink alcohol and coffee during your TWW?

  • I've been off caffeine since we started seeing our RE. So no caffeine or alcohol during our medicated cycles. My doc is super strict about it.

    :-/

Question: my Nurse said to go ahead and trigger me when my lining was only 4.8 mm. 36 hours later and two doses of estrace daily and we did the IUI without another u/s. How fast does lining tend to thicken? Im still on the estrace, taking it vaginally. I'm now paranoid that my endo lining will be too thin for implantation if we even did get a fertilized egg this round.
