@CarmCeG For me I worked right up until the date I got sent for a surprise induction. But I also work at a desk so it wasn't too rough on me up at the end when I was uncomfortable.
Something I would consider is what leave you may get, paid or unpaid and the duration. I do not have paid maternity leave but can take FMLA so I chose to work up until the bitter end so i could maximize the time at home with the baby (12 weeks). I do have a bit of sick leave accrued but I opted not to use it since babies often get sick a lot in daycare the first year so I didn't want to burn my leave and then be in a pickle later on.
Both times to help my work plan for when I would be out I gave them my due date but said I could only reasonably guarantee I would be in until about 38 weeks just in case. This ended up working out well since we were all prepared when I was sent down to L&D at my 39 week appointment for gestational hypertension. You may feel better giving yourself similar wiggle room in your plans.
@bacorrea Yes, I am on the same boat! I'm thinking possibly the next month, seeing as target already has put out bikinis. But then again, it would probably depend what area you live in?
yes polish your toes! Anything to make you feel better about yourself when you've just gone through all that!
I NEED TO NEST. I don't have anything that I feel like I can do around our house or anything really left to buy but I'm dying to nest. there has to be something!
I'm team working until you can't anymore. I only get 12 weeks total, so I'd prefer to have that after the baby comes.
I have to do treatment plans every 90 days for all of my clients and I'm working on some for next week, and the next treatment plan due date is MAY 15TH! That is insane, half of us will have had our babies and the other half will be so close. It is so crazy thinking about how close we all are!
@Jkp7749 it's still really early but you could start packing your hospital or diaper bag! I ordered a bunch of baggu nylon pouches to keep those bags organized, kind of unnecessary but it's one tiny way to nest!
my SO just showed me this after I expressed disgust in Trump always need to assert his baby power by making someone hold his pen after he signs every executive order.
@CarmCeG my plan is to work from home starting 2 weeks before due date (don't want to suddenly collapse at work lol). Luckily, i have a job that allows working remotely.
Add me to team hospital gown, especially for delivery. It's quite convienet to not really remember how disgusting the birthing process is because everything gets balled up and thrown away. I did bring my own fuzzy slipper socks for comfort and the nurse even tried to coax me out of those during delivery for fear they'd get gross, but I just tossed them right after. More accurately, I made my husband do that and grab me the replacement pair I brought. Second the recommendation above on painting your nails (toes and fingers, if you typically do that). Not during delivery, but in the days after I kept looking at them and thinking "I may feel like I've been to war, but at least my nails look pretty!". And for post delivery hospital wear, I brought nursing friendly night gowns, pj pants, and a robe. Spent most of the time in the nursing nightgowns because it was easy access for nurses and breast feeding and just overall quite comfortable. I wore high waisted yoga pants and a tunic length sweatshirt to go home and plan to do the same this go around.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushALot Sorry to hear about your results, hopefully it is something you can control with diet and exercise. I had it last time and It took a few days to get used to the new diet but then it simply became second nature.
@carmceg Seeing as both my boys arrived much earlier than expected I ended up working until the workday just before they were born. That's my plan this time too. Luckily everything is going well so far and it's looking like I may make it to term, so I am counting on being pretty uncomfortable towards the end. However, I'd rather save any time off for my maternity leave and spend more time with LO.
@Kipperoo - A huge YES to the fuzzy slipper socks! My hospital provided some, but they were really thin and uncomfortable. I packed a couple of pairs of my own and they were amazing. I still wear them regularly.

I will work until I have the baby and that's what I did last time. I wore fuzzy slipper socks in the hospital while having the baby. No way I would be barefoot in stirrups or walk on the floor....
@Jkp7749 I have my list of "nesting" things. I'll share with you in case you feel like it : -Wash baby stuff -Create baby's medicine bin (we have a bin upstairs and downstairs for ourselves) -Create diaper baskets x2; One for our room and one for downstairs -Create BF basket x3; Our room, downstairs, near rocker -Create a bin for outgrown clothes -Create a bathroom basket x2; One upstairs and downstairs for post birth stuff -Sanitize bottles, paci's, etc. -Clear out a kitchen cabinet for baby -Make room in freezer for milk stash (hopefully!) -Start baby proofing -Prep freezer meals -Decide on a birth announcement -Make sure I have a list of all names and addresses I will want for those -Pre-address and stamp envelopes so it's as "simple" as sliding the announcement in and dropping in the mail
Team hospital gown during labor. I don't want to deal with the mess. Last time as soon as they got me up to clean up the bed I changed into a night gown and light sweater. Visitors would be showing up shortly and I did not feel socially comfortable in a hospital gown. I would hike up the night gown when I sat to prevent getting anything on it and cover my lap with a blanket/towel.
Regarding when to stop coming into work, it highly depends on the job and your leave. I am part time and its an office job. I worked up until the day before my due date. I am planning on doing that again. I couldn't face everyone on my due date or after, but ending earlier then that would have made the clock tick even slower. I ended up 5 days late with an induction.
@nda_roxybabe: that's a great checklist of "keeping busy" tasks! I went nuts once I got closer to my due date, looking for things to do to keep myself occupied. I'm totally copying your list.
@nda_roxybabe that list is great but also a bit panic-inducing.
Haha! Having it written down calms me. I have more items, but they weren't so much "nesting". They're on an excel spreadsheet and listed by pregnancy week which converts to the date for me.
Just wondering when working mommies plan or suggest to go on maternity leave?
I'm debating between leaving two weeks before due date or continue working until I go into labor.
I plan to work until I go into labor because I want the full 12 at home with LO. I also work 2 blocks from the hospital, so I'm actually crossing my fingers that I'll go into labor when I'm at work!
Me: 29, DH: 31 Married: October 2014 Began TTC: April 2015 BFP #1: 9/18/15. EDD 5/18/16. MC 10/26/15. (9w) BFP #2: 2/27/16. EDD 11/7/16. MC/D&E 4/20/16 (11w) BFP #3: 9/22/16. EDD 5/29/17. DS born 4/24/17 BFP #4: 5/20/18. EDD 1/23/19.
Thanks for all of the advice on hospital wear, ladies. Also, I plan to work until the last second. I only get 6 weeks maternity leave then go part time, so unless there's a reason I can't work I will up until the moment I can't.
I worked until I went into labor last time (last shift was Wednesday night and went into labor early Sunday morning). I plan to do the same this time. We don't get paid leave unless we use our vacation days so I'm trying to save up as much time for after delivery as possible; even so I'll end up with 2-3 weeks unpaid.
As for clothes I brought comfy, loose lounge pants with a cami and sweater to wear after delivery. During labor I wore nothing except for the hospital gown. Like everyone else has mentioned, delivery is a mess and the gown did its job. It also made it easy to unbutton and go straight to skin to skin immediately after delivery. We frequently have to hang bras on IV poles after delivery because moms realize they wants skin to skin and all the tubes and wires make it impossible to completely untangle until later.
Rant: I typed out a huge long rant about DH being a butt yesterday but decided to go with the cliff notes....basically I was feeling crummy yesterday (pukey and nauseous all day) and it was also DH's birthday. Apparently me feeling sick ruined his day and made it all about me. Whatever. But being pregnant and emotional, him saying that made me cry and now today I'm just super irritated by it. wow...I'm so far behind...I didn't even realize it is Thursday, but I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday! Its been a rough week and trying to catch up on everything!
My sister is the Director of an Aquatics program at a Y and has done life guarding and swim lessons. She also swam on teams for most of her life haha so she'll probably teach baby to swim. I think at first we would love to do the baby survival pool lessons and she's done those before too. We won't have a pool at our house anymore, but we do live in Florida so swimming happens often!
I'll mess up the hospital gowns lol no shame! Maybe comfy clothes for the days after, but haven't given it much thought actually.
I can't remember what else was discussed anymore...
Had a rough week with house buying issues, but I think we've finally got everything figured out! Once we sign the new contract, it will go to underwriting for review and hopefully all will go well and we can still close at the end of the month! Yay!
Other random: I haven't felt baby move a ton yet, but do feel him move at night when I'm finally relaxing or when I first wake up. I definitely feel him more on the weekends when I'm relaxing. I don't feel him much during the day except when I eat, and my doctor said that's normal, but I just thought I'd see if anyone else is having or has had this experience. I'm assuming I'm still early and maybe won't feel as much as you would to count every hour yet, but thought I'd check anyway. I'm guessing being stressed probably hasn't helped much...

@nda_roxybabe Love the list - there were a few items I hadn't thought of!
In other news if one more person at work tells me I look "so tired" I am going to throat punch them. I mean really do you think it is wise to tell an emotional pregnant women she looks like crap? Yes, I have a head cold and I haven't been sleeping, no I don't need you to remind me I look as horrible as I feel. UGH!
@BabyMC517 kick counts aren't a thing until 28 weeks. I never counted last time because DD was always moving. This time this kid only moves in the morning and at night. If you're worried just drink something sweet and lay down for a bit. But like your doctor said it's normal.
@BabyMC517 how far along are you? I'm 24 weeks and I actually called the doctor earlier in the week because I hadn't felt the baby move much. I was more calling because I knew my white blood cells had dropped post-chemo and I wanted to see if I should expect less movement around that time due to baby's white cells dropping too. Anyway they didn't have any answer to that but they did say that at 24 weeks it is totally normal to feel really inconsistent movement. They said baby still has a lot of room and can easily move to the back of your uterus so you won't feel him/her as much.
@BabyMC517 That sounds totally normal to me! Are you one of the anterior placenta ladies? I know for a long while I'd only feel baby at night and sometimes after lunch.
@kat81 That’s awesome! I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty
jealous that you have so many pregnant acquaintances. But that’s just such good news.
For the
hospital, I was just planning on wearing/bringing clothes I don’t care much
about. H will be the only one in the room during delivery. After that, I'll probably just stick with the gowns until I leave. And I'll bring loose/comfy clothes to go home in.
@CarmCeG My plan is to either lower my hours or stop working up to a
month before my due date. I won’t be going back to full time afterwards, and I
think I would really enjoy having a bit of time to relax, maybe do some last
minute kid-free activities, etc before the baby arrives. For me, it’s not a
huge hit money-wise to give myself a “vacation” before the baby.
@jkp7749 I feel you! I’ve been nesting for a month or so
now? I feel like I always need something to do…whether that’s getting the house
in order or even browsing for baby stuff online. I can’t seem to stop it. But,
it has led me to get really great deals on baby clothes!
Just a quick note on postpartum clothes: I was unprepared for how much you have to pee those first few days as your body gets rid of extra fluid. And I changed those mesh panties a lot because the big pads would shift so there would be, ah, spillage. Anyway, I found it easier to wear a jersey skirt or nightgown that you could just hike up rather than pants. I also didn't bring anything that I wouldn't mind tossing. So. Many. Fluids.
Just wondering when working mommies plan or suggest to go on maternity leave?
I'm debating between leaving two weeks before due date or continue working until I go into labor.
I had the doctor write be out about a week and a half before my due date. So I was written out as of Wednesday before thanksgiving and ended up having DD the money's after. So I had to go back to work at 11 weeks instead of 12 and I wished I had that extra week with her. I know, silly it was just a week but it's hard!
This time no matter how miserable I am, I'll be working up until either I go into labor or my scheduled c section date.
For hospital clothes, I plan on wearing the hospital gown with sweats (when cold) and a robe. I've been eyeing a nightgown but haven't made any decisions on it.
I plan to work up until I give birth or the doctor says no. I may be crazy because I will have a job that requires me to spend most of my day on my feet, but I feel like I'll go crazy at home.
It is so hard to resist all the cute baby stuff! Makes me sad sometimes that we choose to be team green. Although I'm sure the wallet is happy about that...
I plan to wear the hospital gown until after I deliver and then I will put on a robe I bought. I'm planning on having pictures so want to wear something decent looking.
With both deliveries I wore just the gown and nothing underneath. Pretty certain I stayed that way until transferring to mother baby room. Then it was all yoga pants, nursing tanks, and a light zip up hoodie or robe and socks. I came home in the same. This time I have these amazing and very loose sweatpants from Ezra+Eli and those will likely be my loungewear before my yoga pants to wear home.
Thanks @bacorrea@nda_roxybabe and @RainyDays86 makes me feel better I'm 25 weeks and 4 days today. I haven't been told I have an anterior placenta...I suppose anything is possible! I just ate dinner and am now laying on the couch...started feeling him move/kick a little already. he's also kind of moved up a bit on me, usually sits pretty low, so I'm not used to this bump so high haha so maybe he's moving and I just don't feel it bc it's a new position. I think I was only worried because I've been so stressed and was thinking I was causing him not to live much. Good to know kick counting doesn't start for a few more weeks! Otherwise I'd really be worried!
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
Today was a rough one. One of the dogs that had been attending our daycare since we opened passed away. Everyone really loved him, so it was a pretty somber work day. I kind of shoved it down while I was there, cause I felt like otherwise I might spiral into a tear-fest. So, of course, when I went to pick up a card after work for the employees to sign for the family, I ended up crying there. Oye.
I had a question I was going to ask, but completely forgot what now. I may be back...
@BabyMC517 it's hard not to worry about movement changes if you're a ftm, but I've also been taking comfort in the fact that kick counts don't start for a few weeks. I'm actually the opposite of you and when baby is low I barely feel her and when she's high I can see every kick and wiggle.
@starphish18 I'm sorry you guys lost a dog buddy and had a rough day but glad you did get those tears out
***TW ahead - injury/death/ethical situation Its been kind of a tough week, although I think I'm maybe internalizing too much. A good family friend's 24-yr old son (I've never met him, hence why I feel strange being so sad) was in a car accident this week. It took them over an hour to remove him from his vehicle on the scene. He is >500 lbs and so there is not an MRI in the state that he can be safely put in, which severely limits what they know for sure. But the docs told the family today that they're fairly confident that he's paralyzed from essentially the chin down. That means he'll never breathe on his own, walk, talk, eat, etc. Anything most people would consider a meaningful life. However, he's still very with it mentally and begging his parents to essentially take him off life support. It's too early to make that decision just yet; but ultimately it would mean removing him from the ventilator and medicating him while he suffocates to death and knows exactly what's happening to him. I just feel so badly for him and his family and can't even imagine what any of them are going through. At this point everyone's praying for a miracle. Not sure why I'm sharing this here other than I guess he could use all the prayers he can get. And if anyone needed a reminder that life is damn temporary so hug your loved ones.
Regarding hospital clothes - I had a c-section and was not allowed to change into my own clothes until the catheter was removed. Once I was able to change, it was lounge pants, a nursing sports bra, and a loose tank from Target. I wore lounge pants and a t-shirt home.
Regarding when hen to stop working - my doctor wrote me off of work a week before my due date due to swelling. DD came two days after her due date, but that didn't effect my maternity leave. This time I plan to work until the end unless my doctor has a reason for me not to.
Re: Randoms and Questions 2.6 - 2.10

Regarding when hen to stop working - my doctor wrote me off of work a week before my due date due to swelling. DD came two days after her due date, but that didn't effect my maternity leave. This time I plan to work until the end unless my doctor has a reason for me not to.
