So here is a stupid question. Do any of you plan to get these LOs swimsuits? Last time it was just DD and I obviously didn't take her to the pool as she was too young for sunscreen/chlorine/etc. DD is a FISH and I can't imagine not going to the pool all summer just because I'm having DS. It's not like he can go in the pool at 2 months though...so I'm thinking no.
We have two 3 month ones that were gifted. I don't know if we'll use them, maybe at the end of summer? I plan on taking DD to wading pools this summer and wearing baby while I walk in with her.

I probably won't bring her in a pool for this first summer. My older daughter loves to swim and has been taking swim lessons for the past year so we'll continue with that for her. I have a small inflatable pool, slip n slide, and water sprinkler for the yard that we set her up with in the summer. I'll probably find a shady spot to hang with baby while we watch my older DD play. :)

We are kicking around the idea of renting a beach house during fall break, which is the first week of October this year, depending on how mellow this kiddo will be! She'll be about 5-ish months old by then. I have one of those shady beach tent things and figure I can just bring her out by the beach for short periods in the mornings and late evenings to avoid too much sun.

DD was born in July of '15 and we were in the pool with her (barely... like toes and we tried a little more when we were at a very warm pool) by the end of the summer.
@jkp7749 Hey, my DS was born in July 2015 too! Were you on the BMB then?

Like other pp, we had an inflatable pool with a top cover for DS this past summer. We didn't do water time his first summer (born end of July). But @bacorrea thanks for posting this as now I can add swim diapers it to my registry and get DS some trunks! I was up pretty late last night adding to my target registry.

@nda_roxybabe Yes, my linea negra showed up early this time around but as pp said, it's not as dark as I remembered...

@sweaterboots Not sure about pelvic pain but I just experienced some BH contractions for the first time this pregnancy this past week too. For me, I feel like my entire uterus is tightening. I sit and rest and it calms down. But it definitely stops you in your tracks.

@nda_roxybabe I've had linea nigra on the lower half (below my belly button) for a while, and it just started coming in faintly on the upper half about a week ago. It took so long for the lower portion to get darker that I didn't really notice it until it was *bam* there. The lines don't match up evenly around the belly button, though, and it drives me a little nuts.

@mrsrep123yes it did stop me in my tracks!  I'm a FTM and it was like "what is this".  The pelvic pressure is so low it's almost directly behind the "love button".  It's a very heavy pressure & dull pain.  Will ask doc about it Friday.

@bacorrea thanks for posting about swim gear. The valley I live in gets into the 100s by July and we will be looking for ways to cool off.  FTM hadn't thought of an age restriction yet or in getting a pair of swim diapers!  Thanks for bringing this up!

Silly STM question: I just found a few onesies from DD that have small stains on them from formula/drool/etc. Is it okay to bleach these? I'm guessing yes as long as I was in detergent after, but wanted to check if it's worth it. Any suggestions?

After storing newborn clothes and then taking them out, you'd be surprised the number of "stains" that appear even though you know it was gone! I think it has to do with the heat and sitting over time that the stains reappear. For DD2 I soaked the clothes in an oxiclean solution and re-washed. Almost all of the stains disappeared. I'm not sure about bleach as I don't tend to use it ever.

@PghMom412 Is your goal just to get rid of the color? If so, you could hang them in front of a south-facing window. I've done that before for a white shirt that had an oil stain that I couldn't get out. The sun should bleach out the stain in a few days.

ISR type classes are really popular in my area and most of my friends started when their babies were 6 months, so I'm planning on doing that as well. I loved the water as a kid (still do!) so I'm hoping the little guy will be the same. It's too bad it's winter here 9 months of the year lol.

    @Jen_Shoes yay for baby bump!!

@nda_roxybabe I have Linea Nigra and it's gotten much darker over the last few weeks. DH barely notices anything but he noticed that!

I recently went through DD's old newborn clothes to pull out anything gender neutral and sell the rest.  A ton of our whites had yellow spots on them.  I soaked overnight in a strong oxiclean solution w/ hot water.  Then I hit the spots once more with the baby oxiclean spray, washed them on hot, and hung them out in the sun to dry.  I think the sun really had the best impact.  There were still a few stains when they came out of the washer and all were gone once they dried in the sun.  When DD was a baby, I used the sun to bleach a few visible stains as well.

With both of my kids, we waited until they were past 6 months to take them to the pool. I've been really torn about what we are doing with this LO though. We have a neighborhood outdoor pool where we live now and I take the kids regularly during the summer. At the same time 3 kids by myself might be too much so what I am thinking we will do is go in the evenings with DH or on the weekends, or he or I stay with the baby while the other takes the 2 older kids. We probably won't go as much this year as we have the past couple of years but at least there will be some pool time. Whether baby goes into the water or not still remains to be seen.

We took DS2 into the pool his first summer. He was an April 2015 baby. We did only shade as we couldn't use sunscreen on him quite yet. There was a little floatie boat with a canopy that we got from target that we used a ton. Not sure what this summer will bring. Probably a lot less pool time because DS1 is 4 and just starting lessons and DS2 is only 2 and I'll have a newborn. THat sounds so overwhelming for me. DH will have to be with us for me to feel even somewhat comfortable.

DD was a Jan '15 baby and she spent a ton of time in the pool come summer. We started her in swimming lessons just shy of a year old and she did them for 6 months or so. She learned to be comfortable in the water, how to flip over, and reach for the side. I think it was worth it. We might go again when she gets older for technique stuff.  We switched to gymnastics classes and I think 1 lesson a week is enough for now.

For the baby I imagine we will be by the pool or at our local splash of frequently as we are very warm normally. I'll get him some swim trunks and a shirt to stay cool but we will see how much actual swimming we do.

@hp_momma I've bleached baby clothes before- I did add an extra rinse after the wash cycle to make sure that the bleach was rinsed out. No problems.

As for the pool- we did a little kiddy pool in our backyard the last couple of years, but both my girls were older by the time summer came around. I haven't decided what we will do with baby this summer. I will say that having a giant beach umbrella that we could move around the yard was great when the kiddos were little and non mobile!! Costco tends to have huge ones at a pretty good price closer to summer.

Random- Older daughter has started lying. It stinks!  She is super obvious, and she thinks it's hilarious, like she's making huge jokes. Like, she told husband "I don't love you **giggle giggle**". I asked if she wants a cookie "no. I don't. **giggle giggle**". I tell her that I'll read her a book AFTER I put the laundry in the wash "no, daddy already fold mommy's laundry. Mommy can read book now."
ugh!!!  And then she just looks super confused when I try to explain telling the truth. Ah well, I suppose we'll end up with some good stories to tell her when she's older.

I like sitting next to the pool, but I hardly ever get in. We have a pool at the camp, but I probably won't take the baby in this summer because of possible mess issues, the chlorine, and the sun. I could picture putting him in a baby pool in a swim diaper, though, so we'll see.

DH and I are going to take him to the beach for the first time on Labor Day when he'll be about 3 months old, but it's more a trip for DH and I. DH doesn't like being in the sun, so I'll get some lying on the beach time while he's inside with baby and then we'll go out to the shops and hit the beach either morning or evening as a family. It's only February but I've been thinking about the beach a ton lately!

Thanks @hp_momma and @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot we have oxiclean! I'm going to give that a try and if not will probably just let them go as they are since most will be worn under sleepsacks anyways. I know I washed these before we packed them away but lo and behold there are some marks on them.

Thanks @starphish18 I will keep that in mind for the future stains but I'm thinking these are too set in (2+ years). I'm thinking most are from spit up or formula spots so possibly oil based.

@Jen_Shoes yay congrats! I had my first stranger ask me how far along i was :D (27 weeks as of yesterday).

I'm willing to bet noone will try to randomly touch my belly though. I have a really advanced RBF. Lol.

And now i totally want to go swimming. Hmm. Babies. Swimsuits. Swimming diapers. Hmmmmm.

@erinh2005 happy birthday! You guys look great!

@sweaterboots so i was talking to my OB about the dull pain in my labia (TMI? But wait!) - she recommended an athletic supporter this weird looking thing: v2 supporter. And it comes with a back pain relief extension too! I'm seriously considering it because getting up in the mornings has been a bitch.

Swimsuits, swim diapers and sunscreen...this will be my 4th kid, 3rd may baby.  I have 3m babthing suits but I don't think my kids ever wore them or swim diapers that early.

all of my kids love water and we have access (and frequently visit) a community style pool and honestly I don't think any of my kids did more than stick their toes/legs in the first summer so a bathing suit or swim diaper wasn't necessary.   Usually plenty of people wanted to snuggle the baby or baby would just nap in the stroller  and I could play with my older ones.  And when using the kiddie pool or sprinkler at home I just pull the swing onto the deck so baby is in the shade. and other posters were correct that sunscreen isn't safe before 6 months.

Stains - it is amazing how many stains appear when you pull out clothes from storage!!!  And how many stains you will deal without throughout the early years.  I've tried many things and have found Shout Stain Spray to take out pretty much every stain...grease stains even.  And even stains that are old and have been washed before.

@ChristinaWild and @Jkp7749 isn't this BMB so much better? Or is it because STM now?

@starphish18 thanks for the sun bleaching tip. Can't believe I haven't heard of that beforehand...

i was itching to go to go through our storage bins of DS clothes but MH wanted to get out of the house yesterday. So, it stays un-crossed-off on my to-do list. I only have 13 weeks left if we're lucky...

I had started going through DD's girly clothes and there's quite a few things with stains. I was kind of bummed out by how much stuff was stained because I'm hoping to sell them as a lot or donate them instead of having to find a place that recycle clothes. I will have to try oxiclean thanks to y'all!

@mrsrep123 Glad I could help! I didn't realize how effective the sun was at bleaching until we moved into this house. There's a window in the master closet (whyyyy?) and I didn't realize how much havoc it was wreaking until I pulled out some shirts I hadn't worn in a while and they all had a white streak down the shoulder near the window. Womp womp. We now have a blackout shade on that window. Our comforter is also slightly bleached on one side. It's hard to tell because it blends, but if you fold one end to the other, you can tell it's a completely different color now.

All I can say about swim diapers is the huggies ones don't do anything. I had my son wrapped up in a towel on my lap he peed and it went right through to my lap! He was 10.5 m old start of summer

@Yiggle09 we use the reusable swim diapers. You can find them at Target and they work pretty well. Essentially like having a speedo on under the swimsuit.
