+1 for warm compress or shower. @foxrosy have you tried massaging the breasts before/while pumping?
Does anyone else get painful tingles in the boobs/nipples just out of nowhere? I have no pain when actually feeding but randomly I get this awful tingle sensation.
@becbec28, I often get letdown feeling with tingling outside of actual feeding, but with previous kids I also got a yeast infection of the ducts that caused shooting pains through the breasts. My letdown feeling outside of actually feedings tends to be more pronounced then with feedings.
I've tried hand expressing in the shower, warm, moist compress, hand massage, nothing gives! With my son I didn't have this problem so it's all new to me.
@foxrosy I could be totally talking out of my ass because I don't remember the source but I read somewhere that the initial engorgment wasn't milk in your boobs but swollen breast tissue getting prepared to make milk. When I was pumping this time for like a day I got nothing after getting 2 oz of colostrum from a pump and I was freaking out, but my actually milk came in like a day or so later. Have you tried icing your boobs and pineapple?

I went to a BF class this past weekend and that's what the nurse/LC said. That the milk glands get activated and your body sends fluids, almost like a sprain in another part of the body. So it's not really milk, just the tissue is reacting. She suggested the heat and cold therapy packs to help!
@foxrosy I experienced this same thing and you have my sympathy. It felt like someone had strapped two hot, sore boulders to my chest and nothing relieved it. Heat helped, but time was the real cure.
I just made an appt with a different LC for Saturday and felt a huge sense of relief/hope as soon as I got off the phone. I've felt like we are going through the motions of BFing but that DD is not really getting the hang of it and still depending on pumped milk for most of her nutrition. She was so comforting and said she thought she could really help me. This is effing hard, guys.
Ah haaa! Thank you @PerraSucia and @leslie13510 I actually had never heard of that. It brings me comfort though because I was at a total loss of how I was ever getting this so called milk out. I've been doing heat, but I'll try ice. I haven't heard of the pineapple thing either. Do you eat it or put rings of it on your boobs? But seriously, do you eat it?

You put the rings on your boobs and then send me a pic
I never knew pineapple was so magical before I started on this whole kid thing. I was mowing down on pineapple while TTC because everything I read said it might help. Then while I was trying to get the baby out, ditto. Now it helps with breastfeeding?? Magic I tells ya
@Gretchypoo do you know what I have no idea. My abs definitely looked better than my other mom friends but it could be that I genetically won the jackpot there or that my girdle worked. I know after like lipo and tummy tucks they give you compression garments to help keep everything in place and to keep the swelling down, so I assume they have to do something?
The hospital also automatically gives you one post c/s.
the first time i used a belly bandit and it was sooo hot and I'm pretty tall so it creeped up all the time and drove me nuts so this time I splurged and got the bellefit one. It rides pretty hard up my ass because my ass is waaaaaaaaay bigger than my waist but 3 weeks out I'm looking pretty good!
I read a zillion kinds of reviews and think if I was going do ever do this again and couldn't reuse these ones I'd go aftermarket Amazon ones for 20 bux or whatever.
@perrasucia I'm glad you like the girdle so far! I got the Bellefit too and I can't wait to see how it works, once this baby decides to exit, that is...
@PerraSucia@Gretchypoo I have the Bellefit girdle too. I first got it when I had my son and I loved it. Currently wearing it this go round as well. I'm a little bit bigger with this pregnancy so I second it riding up my ass something fierce, but I'm definitely noticing a difference just after three days of wearing it.
Confession- the only nursing "garment" I've felt comfy in is actually the green belly band thingy they give you at the hospital to go around the baby bump when trying to keep monitors in place. I wear that shit as a crop top and nothing else even comes close. Nursing tanks and nursing bras drive me batty after an hour or two, ugh. My friend gave birth 5 months ago and I snagged her green belly band too lol, so I always have a clean one to change into. Otherwise curtains are drawn and I'm topless or wearing just a robe.
Before I figured out to wear that thing as a crop top I wore it as a belly band and thought it was pretty comfy. I'm guessing it helped do its job since 3 weeks PP and my tummy is already 85% flattish again. Or maybe my boobs are just so giant that my stomach merely *looks* flat but either way, win.
@yogadevil man, i wish i had had a band for all the monitors. my fhm kept falling off. the nurse was moving it, like, every 20 min and it was held on by fabric strips tied around me. SO ANNOYING.
No cramping for me when wearing it, but it's definitely not the most comfortable thing to wear. But I do feel more reminded to straighten my posture and to help me begin to engage my abs again.
Do you guys think it would be too late to start wearing a Bellefit at 5 weeks PP? I have a little pooch that if went down I could comfortably fit back into some of my bigger pre pregnancy clothes.

Also wondering about this... I'm 4 weeks postpartum and the extra skin flopping around is impacting my wardrobe choices. Maternity pants don't stay up without the bump, and non maternity pants are some kind of joke right now...
Oh don't get me wrong, it's not just skin. I'm fairly certain I have a collection of pants that will now be resigned to a "remember when" drawer that I estimate I will pack and move with at least once before I accept it's never going to happen... I would just like to get the skin part down so that I can get a sense of what I'm now working with, in terms of new pants wardrobe. I was never blessed with what they call "birthing hips" but damned if I don't have 'em now.
Ok, I'm curious to know what all of your plans are on alcohol and breastfeeding. What's been recommended to you and/or how you feel about it.
I'm thinking I'm gonna have me some wine on V-Day. We're ordering Chinese and hoping to open up a nice red like we do every year.
Last time I only had my first glass about 3-4 months into BF and LO had a pretty consistent feeding schedule at that point. So drinking in the newborn stage is uncharted territory to me.

@concreteangell my midwife and my breastfeeding counsellor said the advice they go by is from Jack Newman, who's apparently one of the big names in breastfeeding. They say 'if you can drive you can breastfeed.'
Whether you feel comfortable drinking on the amount of sleep you're getting is a whole other kettle of fish...
