@kvruns I just took my baby to the doctor and she has a minor case of thrush. The doctor thought her tongue may have just been milk stained because she didn't have any other symptoms. The only symptom was a white tongue. She is formula fed. The test was just a swab of the tongue and it took about 15/20 minutes to come back showing fungus. I would recommend getting it tested if you think that's what it is.
Ok... now he has hives on just his face and neck. Any proven home remedy suggestions?
He had the beginning of this yesterday and the pediatrician said she didn't see it, but now it's red and raised and clearly hives. I'm not calling that woman again.
@SandNStarsNJ your ped. sounds like a real treat. Try some Benadryl. If it's an allergy to something it should make it go away. Otherwise the answer to everything : breast milk.
Haha... it's just one doctor out of three. But it certainly explains why we were the only ones in the office yesterday and she was the only one on duty.
I'm starting to think that he's actually having the tail end of roseola because there is no fever and the hives are isolated to certain areas of his body. I have been covering them with breast milk though. Thanks @kristah2!
Not quite sick baby per se but has anyone had an uptick in baby spit up? Mine didn't really do it until about a month ago and it was maybe 1 time every few days. Now he's spitting up a lot more these past few days. As in outfit 4 today and it's only noon. Nothing has changed in his diet or mine.
@kvruns yup! Mine didn't start out like it and then it went to allllll the time. Didn't even have anything to do with when he ate could have been hours after. Dr said he was a happy spitter and as long as he didn't look like he was in pain and as long as it wasn't projectile across a room it was all good and normal. I was concerned it was a lot and she said it often looks a lot more then it actually is!
thanks @kristah2 that is good to know. It mostly just drips out of his mouth but its projected a little onto me a couple times today. He doesn't seem to be in pain when he does it although a few times I feel like he's trying to get it out because he is either coughing or sounds like he's sort of trying to get something out
@kvruns sounds like it's all good! M has projectiled onto me to the point I've heard it splat. He's also filled a blanket almost fully it was so much! And I've heard him urge a couple of times. When I brought it all up to the dr she said all perfectly normal and classified him as a "happy spitter" and said it's super common! I haven't managed to find any trends on when it happens more etc. So we're just going with it and keeping lots of receiving blankets in every room!
Mine spits up all the time due to reflux and she is in pain. We used webmd and she had colic symptoms and then as we read the symptoms for gerd and it all clicked. Since her lips went blue due to choking on her spit up once, we were sent to the pediatric cardiologist. No abnormalities were found that would cause the sympotoms, so it's just a bad case of reflux. The bad thing is we moved and the Dr I went to who was the only one taking new patients. She used Suri on her phone to ask questions during the well child 2 mo check up! Wtf! So when I asked about medication to ease the pain/reflux she only wanted me to use otc remedies. Ugh. I'm so tired of the spit up and the crying.
My lo was just diagnosed with reflux. After three weeks of constant crying in pain that progressively got worse and for longer duration, I was at my wits end and crying when he was crying. I made a same day Dr. Appointment and now we are on day 5 of generic prevacid. I slowly seeing improvement. I get at least one or two hours of a happy content baby a day. He is now super congested sounding which is a reflux symptom.
@sarac986 when you say congested how do you mean? My little guy has his share of "congestion" where I feel like I'm on booger patrol.. but also lately he has a lot of saliva that looks like a ton of air bubbles mixed in. I wonder if your little one has any of the same?
God my guy has been a drool maniac too @leighry! It's really bad when he gets worked up, it's like he forgets how to swallow. I thought it was just M but maybe it's normal?
I wouldn't say his nose is full of buggers but you can hear him almost snort when he cries / breathes and he has more thick mucus in his drool.
He will randomly cough and gag. It's scares me every time. I have nasal aspirators everywhere around the house. I always suck out his mouth after every feeding and spit up
My babe is really congested too. You can hear it when he breathes sometimes. It's like his congested right into his chest and he's almost wheezy. He does get boogers but they are dry (maybe sticky) and I can usually get them out by just wiping his nose with my finer so it's not like it's a lot of wet stuff. They first said this was normal with a section baby because the have more fluid in their lungs because they didn't pass through the birth canal which would usually help get that out. But 3 months seems a bit long for this to still be happening. He has a doctors apt next Monday so I plan to bring it up then.
I have a drooler as well, she also has been grunting a lot more lately. I read somewhere that their saliva is just starting and they still need to figure out how to swallow. Hence the drooling and coughing.
Whelp M had a bad reaction to a vaccination today. Swollen leg, red, super painful to touch. He was inconsolable for about two hours. He's since taken a nap and eaten and is much more himself. We're going to be chained to the clock for his Tylenol doses tonight but I will do anything to avoid seeing him in pain like that again.
People say parenting is hard. It is. But it's also super stressful. No one told me how stressed out I'd be over every little thing (and sometimes big things like this).
That stinks @mrsmaryk2016. I remember it with DD and am dreading it with DS next week. The good news is that the 2 month vaccinations were the worst in our 2.5 years of ped visits so far. The bad news is that the worrying will never friggin stop. Ever.
And unsolicited med advice: Arnica is a useful topical cream for bumps and bruises and the area of the injection from shots. It helps heal faster and lessen the pain.
Not sure this is sick baby related exactly, but has anyone else had a LO with mucous in their poop? LO had lots of it this morning, and it's happened a few other times as well, although the other times were during a cold so I thought that's what it was from. But he seems great, no fever or congestion.

A had mucus in her poop on and off until we switched her to a dairy and soy free formula. The pediatrician said it's generally a sign of either saliva or some sort of digestive intolerance. Has he been more drooly than normal?
@desoky01 when my baby gets too much foremilk his poop can be green and mucusy. It's just a sign of foremilk hindmilk imbalance. If you are on formula however I can't offer any advice really. Have you asked your pedi about it yet?

I think this is what's going on with us, especially since it's not every poop. She's been a distracted eater lately. I'm sure it's not my diet because I'm not eating anything fun (Whole 30).
ive heard the current thought is that as long as baby is growing and not uncomfortable than the imbalance isn't something to worry about.
Yeah, doc basically said as long as no blood he should be OK. We're BF, so maybe it is related to food I'm eating. He has been very drooley lately, so who knows. He pooped a ton yesterday, so maybe it was an upset tummy too. Who knows!
Poor LO has a cold (maybe that's why he had such mucous-ey poop!). He's taking such long naps, which is great, but sometimes I have an urge to wake him up! I don't, but I miss him while he's sleeping! And I worry he isn't eating enough. Go away anxiety!
Anyone else feeling like they probably drive their doctor a little crazy with worrying? Sometimes I get really panicky and message her, and then later I feel silly. I really just care about my son and so my mind goes haywire sometimes with worry!
@desoky01 I think if I knew my pediatrician I might but since I don't have a personal or long term relationship with him I dont have any contact between visits
How do you know if your baby has caught a cold? I got sick on Wednesday. Runny/congested nose and sneezing a ton. Also some chest congestion. My baby seems normal. The highest her temp has been was 99.1 (rectal). She sneezes a lot but always has. She has been coughing but it seems to be when she doesn't swallow her saliva correctly. I just get worried about seeing the signs when it's too late.
Her temperature is normal at this point so you're probably fine. It's pretty obvious when they don't feel well - fussy, nursing a lot, clingy - and they'll have serious boogers, like way bigger and more of them. Sounds like she's fine but keep an eye on her.

TTC#2 April 2019We also appear to have some very sensitive skin. When people hold him that are wearing any type of fragrance he breaks out in hives.
