Re: Randoms and Questions 1.23 - 1.29

  • I love prenatal massages! Had one two weeks ago and plan on going next week and have a massage scheduled during our babymoon in February with DH

@Kipperoo We always find tasting menus to go to. It's a nice relaxing dinner where you get to try new things, have a nice conversation and get dressed up. Valentine's Day is when lots of restaurants offer them. If you do one now just make sure you tell them your pregnant so they adjust the menu for you.

My rings still fit but I think once it starts getting warmer I will have to take them off. Luckily it's still so cold here so I haven't had an issue yet.

  • @shadeofgreen816, I got a medium in the tank, which I would say is my average non-pregnant size. It's stretchy, so it seems to work and I continued to wear it long after pregnancy, which was a bonus. They usually have them in store, so you can always go check them out in person! And that is an awesome V-Day gift! He would actually love having our car detailed because he's always complaining about how nasty the toddler makes it...

  • Valentine's Day: It's pretty much my favorite holiday! No idea what I'm getting H though. I don't think we've done gifts in a few years. Hmm.. :/
Normally we order food from a favorite restaurant and then pick up to eat at home while watching hockey <3. I love going out, but it's always so crowded on Vday.

  • @ShadeofGreen816 , also to add--I have MANY tanks similar to this (not just that one). I usually look for long length and slimming or smoothing in the description. My faves right now are $4 ones from Primark, but there are only like 5 Primark's in the US, so likely not close to you. :-(

  • @ShadeofGreen816 Yes! We love to blame our crazy day on a full moon, but I truly believe it makes a difference.
  • I had a doctors appointment today and I'm plus sized. My doctor said to not gain anymore weight. She also said to only eat 1500 calories a day. Is this enough? I had to eat 1800 a day to keep up my milk supply with DD. I know I'm overweight, it's not like I planned to get pregnant at this weight. I messaged my friend who is a OBGYN nurse to see what she thinks. Any thoughts from y'all?
  • @bacorrea I don't have any solid advice. 1500 seems on the low side but I don't know much about your health. I do know that it takes more calories (200-300) to BF than while pregnant. Which makes sense if you think that your LO needs less in the way of nutrition now than when they're bigger. I also know that I lost weight early on and still haven't gained much back, and when I asked my doc he basically said not to worry too much because baby gets everything first anyway. So you may end up staying the same weight or losing a bit but baby should grow well as long as you're getting enough nutrients etc.

Either way I think that's hard news to hear and just do your best and I bet everything will be ok! Hugs to you.
  • Thanks @ShadeofGreen816 I'm fine if that's what's best for the baby! I'm just concerned that's a bit too low.

@bacorrea That sounds about right. I think for a plus sized person a diet of about 1200 calories is recommended and when you're pregnant you only need about an additional 300 calories, bringing you to 1500.

ETA: I'm betting you're feeling really discouraged/ down right now. You got this! The Dr. sounds like they were a bit of an A-hole to you. I'd focus on staying within those calorie limits, but not making yourself miserable. There's lots of great meal planning ideas for 1500 calories a day and yummy recipes and snacks, including treats.

  • Thanks @nda_roxybabe I know that 1200 is recommended when overweight, I am just worried 1500 is still a bit low. When I put my weight/height/goal weight in to My Fitness Pal it says to eat 2,000 to lose 2lbs a week at a lightly active level. I just don't want to do anything to hurt 2.0. My friend who is an OBGYN nurse is going to get back to me tonight! If she agrees with the 1500 I will stick with it!

^^ This. It's true! A few years ago, I followed the guidelines (loosely) for the 400-calorie by 4x a day plan, and it was more like small-ish meals / large-ish snacks, and I never felt deprived. I ate every 3-4 hours. It wasn't just salads and bunny food either. A lot of food can go into 400 calories, especially all the veggies and whole grains.  :)

@bacorrea: Hang in there! Take it one day at a time. It sounds like they just want you to maintain your weight, and 1500 sounds like their recommendation on how you can do so (albeit in an a-hole/not-really-supportive-or-constructive way). One day at a time, one meal at a time, and we're here for you!   :)
  • @bacorrea! When I was dieting (not pregnant) myFitnessPal recommended I eat 1500/day. I ate healthier, felt fuller, and some days could NOT get to 1500 without drinking a couple beers.I'm not sure what you eat now, but I was following more of a Mediterranean diet and it was awesome. Maybe your doctor needs to remember he's working with crazy pregnant women!  ;)
  • Sorry you had a crappy doctor, the lack of bedside manner at a military hospital sucks.
Remember, baby will take everything they need from you first! It's hard not to worry when something sounds off.

Hey now on the military medicine slams. Not cool!

Sorry there wasn't more of a conversation between you and your provider though @bacorrea. It sucks to feel shitty about that.

Thanks! Haha I think that there are some really great military doctors/hospitals and some crappy ones! Just like in the civilian world!

Ha, whoops! No there really are some great doctors, it's unfortunate that so many times we are bounced between doctors so you may not always get to see the one that meshes with your personality! Remember when I said DH was putting in his PA packet, I guess I should stop bashing on the docs haha.
I saw a MFM doctor that I loved, and then got assigned to a different one that is just awkward and doesn't mesh with my personality. Now I'm trying to figure out a way to get back to that other doctor...

Yes! Which would be amazing because I hate where we are now. And he's been to San Antonio for training before so we are familiar with it. And we like Texas!

  • @bacorrea I'm sorry that the doctor made you feel that way. However, I would follow what my doctor told me before I based my decision off a friend that is an OBGYN nurse. I'm not saying anything bad about nurses, my mom is one and she is amazing. however, I believe you should follow your medical advice. If you feel you need a second opinion, I would reach out to another doctor in the practice, or another practice with an obgyn.

Even though the doctor might be giving some tough love, she might feel it's necessary. And a friend may not feel right giving you that same tough love that is needed to keep you and baby healthy.

  • Random, but yesterday at my appointment my OB used a doppler as per usual and I'm starting to think I'm allergic to the U/S and doppler goo... Literally every time they use it I'm itchy in that specific area, but I don't remember it being that way when I was pregnant with DD
  • @BeachMommy2B totally get what you're saying! I'm more just using her as a "this is totally normal in your situation" or "no this isn't what I've seen in the past" and decide to get a second opinion or not from that. I will definitely end up doing whatever my doctor says whether it's this doctor or if I decide to get a new doctor. Thanks!
  • @bacorrea I'm overweight as well and my dr told me to gain 10-15 lbs no more than 20 and that baby will get all the nutrients still. Just to eat healthy and take my vitamins. I tend to eat small meals and snacks throughout the day which helps me stay full, but that doesn't always happen haha sometimes I just can't get satisfied and want to eat more! She didn't give me a calorie amount to stay at so I just watch what I eat and how much. I try to remember to weigh myself once a week to make sure I'm on track in my mind lol like PPs it sounds like the delivery of the conversation was not great and the dr should be smacked upside the head! I've been using this site to help with how much to gain and also that. I think someone posted it before...https://www.kidspot.co.nz/WeightGain/pregnancyweightgain.asp

  • Has anyone had a umbilical hernia that has developed during pregnancy? I have a dr appt today because I all the sudden have this weird painful lump that pops out from my belly button when I cough. Hopefully its nothing serious and baby boy is ok, he's still moving around so that makes me feel a little better.

  • Just wanted to jump in to say I'm all for more separate threads! I don't get on everyday and a lot of times the randoms post gets overwhelming. I can't catch up and respond to all the different conversations.
  • @rosemarylaff I stupidly decided to start listening to country again on the way to my OB appt a couple weeks ago... "There goes my life" came on and omg, the tears.
And now I'm crying just thinking about that song.
  • @nda_roxybabe and @rosemarylaffonly listen to country music and the songs get to me every time. MH and went to see George Strait when I was 8 months pregnant with DD and I was a blubbering mess the whole show.
  • I'm sitting here debating ordering a sandwich that I know is loaded with salt and makes me feel bleh everytime after I eat it... But it's always so good in the moment and I thought I'd be out of here earlier so I didn't make a lunch. I'll probably get it, and probably regret it.
  • whoa, a March 2017 mom just posted her birth story and she delivered her own baby right outside the hospital by herself!

    11.2011 - DS1

    02.2013 - loss at 6 wks

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

    03.2017 - DD

  • @starphish18 that's the story of my life when it comes to food.

I have made it through the first trimester of two pregnancies without needing to take anything for nausea or constipation and now I'm on zofran and popping colace. I feel like this is the universe laughing at me for any false sense of superiority I may have felt for not needing this stuff during the first trimester.
  • So I have a dumb question.
I'm going on two trips over the next month and a half both via airplane.
When you go through security and they scan your body for bombs and stuff... does that thing pose any risk to the baby? I would assume probably not, since people fly so often, but I'd like to know for sure.
  • I feel like I'v e been a bad participant lately, but I'm trying to keep up!!

@bacorrea - second opinions never hurt! I agree that 1500 seems a little low, so maybe someone else has a better guideline. I'm sorry you're having to worry about that on top of normal pregnancy woes.

@omegarose3 - I think it could depend on the type. My normal OB's gel doesn't bother me, but the high risk specialist we've been seeing leaves me very itchy. Maybe your doctor changed brands?

@kayemjay2 - that onesie saying has me giggling. I usually shy away from things with sayings on them, but that is amazing!

@starphish18  - I just ordered a Cuban sandwich and fries from the place next door, so I support your salty sandwich choice! Haha

  • @Jen_Shoes No, those scanners are harmless. The past couple times I've flown, I even noticed there was a sign by them that said they're safe for pregnant women. They use electromagnetic waves instead of x-ray technology. I think they're on par with cell phones. You can always opt for a pat down, though, if you're worried about it.
