Anatomy scan this morning went well! It was probably the longest ultrasound I've had with any of my pregnancy, baby was not super cooperative, but they were able to get all the pictures they needed. Confirmed that it's a girl! They are sending us for an ultrasound at the maternal-fetal specialist because of a bright spot on her heart that is a soft marker for Downs Syndrome, but I'm not worried because my youngest son had the exact same thing and it was nothing, and my bloodwork says I have a very low risk.
My sister had her follow up scan this morning also, and the specialist was able to see all of the parts of the heart! I guess they just weren't able to see everything at her anatomy scan last week and her doctor thought the baby was missing a ventrical, but the specialist said everything was there! This is such a relief. Although now they told her that her fluid is low, so they have my poor sister something else to worry about.
These two girl cousins who are due a week apart are already uncooperative and are going to raise hell together when they get older!
@mrt so glad to hear your sister's girl is doing well too! Girl cousins are the best. There were 5 of us (my sister and three cousins) around the same age and we had a lot of fun growing up together.
AS was great. Baby boy is growing and healthy. All organs look as they should and a beautiful 12oz already.
Butttttt then that awful ice storm hit today and I was in a car accident. My car might be totaled. I'm okay and DS is 100% fine but I started having lower back pain so my OB sent me up to OB triage, so that's where I am. Heart rate is a solid 144 so just waiting on ultrasound and talking with the docs.
@devow27 Glad the scan went well! Sorry to hear about your car accident, but glad you and your DS are OK. Hoping for the best for baby!! Keep us updated!
Thanks all. Waiting for some blood work but everything seems to be checking out just fine and placenta is good! My back just was jarred up from the crash. I should be discharged (hopefully) soon.
Also, forgot to mention that in my AS this morning they saw my SCH is GONE! So happy!
Had our AS baby was uncooperative. What the doctor could see all looks good but we have a follow up in a month. Also found out I have an anterior plecenta. It was so nice to see baby today.
@devow27 ugh what a way to start the new year off accidents are so stressful and a pain to deal. So glad to hear the baby is ok and you are mostly ok other than your back being rattled a bit. Hopefully you don't hurt too bad when you wake up in the morning.
@mrt so glad all is well with the heart!! I know that was stressful for the whole family...
@devow27 sorry to hear about he car accident... what a PITA! Sounds like your update means you and baby are ok other than some back pain, so I hope they can help you get that under control!
Well I guess I got some good news and then some less than ideal news at my follow-up today. My cyst hasn't grown (barely showed signs of decrease in size) which is great. My OB did let me know that the baby has a two vessel cord, which is not ideal. He said this happens in 1% of pregnancies, but the good news is that my genetic screen and scans to date haven't shown issues with the baby so the baby should be fine on that end of things. He said the remaining thing that they'll want to watch for is growth so I'll need monthly ultrasounds to continue monitoring development. I guess 75% of time, nothing really comes of this. Naturally my brain is now fixating on that 25%. Le sigh...
@Elyse1384 Happy to hear the cyst is stable. I'm also in the "there may be a future growth issue" boat (for different reasons) - definitely took me a bit to get comfortable with the uncertainty and knowledge that a lot of monitoring will take place later on. I'm just thankful for modern medicine and knowing to look for a possible issue!
@elyse1384 sending you lots of positive thoughts that your little one continues to grow as they should. I know it can be stressful to get some unexpected news but just know that with today's medicine they will do everything they can to ensure you and baby get the best care. Just remain positive and look at the good things and don't focus on that 25%.
Thanks all. And just another reason (out of the infinite amount) to get an anatomy scan! Literally there are so many things that could be detected and monitored for to help ensure a good outcome for moms and babies.
@Elyse1384 So sorry about the mixed news today. I have a friend with a two vessel cord and she has had ZERO problems. Here's hoping your LO will be just fine too!

@Elyse1384 my best friend had the two vessel cord thing as well, I remember her panicking all the time thinking it was gonna be something terrible.. ended up being no big deal at all and she got extra ultrasounds! I hope it's the same case for you!
@Elyse1384 happy to hear about your cyst. It can be so stressful worrying about the "other %" (I spent my last pregnancy that way) but I'm so glad your doctors will be keeping a close watch on you and baby. (As you know) those babes can withstand quite a bit within the womb and come out as beautiful as ever! Keep us posted!
@Elyse1384 hate to read your update on the 2 vessel cord, will be keeping you and LO in my T&P's... also, that is good news on cyst, hopefully it will start to decrease/resolve itself!
@Elyse1384 sorry about the cord. It is so hard not to focus on the bad percentage. Here's hoping you just the joy of extra wonderful ultrasounds.

We had our anatomy scan today. Little girl looked great. Everything developing normally. Our tech. was a little cranky (she was last time too) but we ignored her and enjoyed seeing all of her amazing little features.

So I had my midwife appointment today. This midwife is awesome, btw. She took so much time to answer all my questions in detail. The other ones are great, too, but this one just loves her job and it's obvious.
Anyway! I explained the a/s situation, and she looked shocked when I said he only took half an hour to do two babies. She said it's usually an hour for one baby. She showed us the report and went through it line by line. She said it looked very bare bones, so the small amount of time he took explained that.
The babies are measuring as expected. Everything looked fine, and there was an itemized list of organs saying they all looked formed and healthy. EXCEPT, it said that they weren't able to get a look at Twin B's face and nasal bone because of positioning, which is bullshit because he showed us both babies' faces. My guess is he forgot to or didn't get the correct pics... Anyway, they recommended we come back in 2 weeks, and my midwife agreed.
So, next week I will be back at a different ultrasound place, most likely the one I went to with DD where they weren't a bunch of asshats.

@Elyse1384 I'll be praying for everything to turn out a-ok! I also received news of needing extra monitoring at my a/s and it's definitely tough to not think of all the scary reasons they want to keep a close eye. But the important thing is they will be watching over baby! I hope your cyst starts to shrink and you have one less thing to worry about.
@Elyse1384 so sorry to hear you got less than ideal news. I totally get fixating on the lower percentage, it's such an annoying thing! I hope it's all fine and you just get to enjoy lots of extra u/s'!
@sls so glad to hear you are getting another one!!
