My DH and I were putting off the name discussion until we found out the sex, so now that we're team blue the conversation has started. I honestly never thought our tastes would be so far apart!
My current faves:
Leo Finn Alaric Nathan Zachary Elijah (my top pic - LOVE Eli as a nn)
DH's faves:
Frank Bartholomew Wilbur Mortimer
Can anyone see some middle ground here? He doesn't hate the names I like, but his suggestions are so off the wall...
At first I thought he wasn't being serious, but he swears he is.
@CherryBananas I love Alaric. There's an Alaric on The Vampire Diaries and I'm a bit obsessed with that show (FFFC?). I also love Elijah, which is on TVD spinoff, The Originals. Unfortunately, my ex and DH's cousin both have sons with that name so it's out for me. I think I just came out as a nerdy vampire lover.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot lol. I think we've talked about our mutual love of TVD before. That's where I came up with Alaric, but I totally missed the Elijah connection. Now I love it even more! I'll never tell DH that's how I picked my name choices though. He'd nix them immediately.
@CherryBananas I love the name Leo! And really like the name Eli. From his list I think Franklin nn Frank would be cute. I would have thought he was kidding too.
@CherryBananas, I agree with you on your H's name selection. I was also quite surprised by mine H's suggestions. To find middle ground, I would ask him what about the names he likes. If it's meaning, generally more than one name will have the same meaning. If it's sounds, William kind of sounds like Wilbur....etc.
@Louise_Belcher Franklin is such an awesome name but I really can't stomach Frank.
@absbubbs I'll have to try and get that out of him. Maybe I'm wrong, but I really think he's just thinking they're cool names, and not thinking that the names will be attached to an actual person.
ETA: I'm trying really hard not to discourage him from suggesting stuff, but I think if I come up with more suggestions he may go along with it. Can you ladies think of any names that are a little more unique but still mainstream enough that I won't hate it?
@Jkp7749 - I love Zoey and Amelia and I think they go well with Violet. I don't know who Zooey Deschanel is but when I first read her name I read it as Zoo-ee, so I would suggest going with Zoey.
@CherryBananas - I like your list. Your H's not so much.

@CherryBananas I like Finn and Eli! Leo was suggested for our little man too, but didn't make the cut. Your H's list reminds me of a lot of people...Frank is my H's little cousin's name (guess not that little he's 16 lol) but goes by Bubba, Bartholomew is H's mom's maiden name, Mortimer is on my step siblings mom's maiden name, and TBH Wilbur reminds me of Charlotte's Webb...please don't take offense to any of what I said! I seem to be able to find someone or something that reminds me of most names, not sure why...I think if you all look up names together that might help come up with a middle ground. My H and I have been trying to do that too since I'm not sold on his name choice, but I think I can get him to compromise and have it as a middle name. I've mentioned it before on here...Tyberius...Oliver is the contender for a first name. Of course everything seems to still be up for debate haha
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
@BabyMC517 - Tyberius is a little too unusual for my tastes, but I think Oliver Tyberius sounds nice. It would drive me nuts if anyone started referring to my baby by a name before I picked one!
@lulubemadness - I like both Cora and Coraline! They're very pretty names. I would absolutely do the traditional spellings.
@Cubslove12 - I heard a news story on the radio about the first baby of the year in a Chicago hospital being named Wrigley (it was a girl) and thought of you because I know you like the Cubs. I'm in PA, so it must have been a slow news day. Disclaimer: I'm definitely not recommending that name, just thought it was funny!
DH and I were really solid on our girl name pick, but we're having a boy and keep changing our minds on the name. We sat down with the top 1000 list of 1955 boy names and the top 1000 from 2015 this week and came to a total of 6 that we might use. I'm actually kind of liking that this baby probably won't be named until we're in the delivery room because it's something that we get to keep between ourselves.

@kns1988 Oliver Tyberius is growing on me, just gotta convince DH! We might end up having 2 names and figuring it out when we see the little guy, which honestly I think I'd like to do so we can keep some of it to ourselves.
I keep hearing "Wiggley" too!

I saw that and I could not do that to my daughter... I personally loved the name Addison years ago, it was more because it's a subtle nod to something very important to my husband and I. We officially started dating at a Cubs V Sox game, our grandparents were HUGE cubs fans and we don't want to name her directly after either of them, and a huge part of our relationship has been going to cubs games.
Now that they won the World Series, we are debating using it... It's a little too trendy and although I'm thrilled they won I don't want that to be the immediate connection everyone has about it.
I do know that when we adopted our dog we thought of the name Wrigley however, we know about 5 other dogs with that name and our vet said it's one of the most popular names.
I was throwing out random names last night and came up with Connor. DH liked it! At first I was kinda so-so about it, but I think it's kinda growing on me...
What do you think of Connor Edward or Connor David? I need to know for sure how I feel about it before I tell DH we actually agree on something lol.
@achays11 it was the #27 baby boys name in my province in 2016, so more popular here, but there were still less than 150 kids given that name. I don't think I'm straying too much into the Oliver/Liam/Noah popularity territory which is what we're looking for without being too far out of the box.
It seems like we change our minds all the time on what we want to name the twins. However, we have been stuck on the same two for a few weeks now, so maybe there is a chance the names will make it to the final cut! Delilah and Fiona Our daughter at home is Scarlet.
@cherrybananas- When my son was born, we were team green and went in with 2 boys names and 1 girl name. Connor Edward was one of our 2 boy name contenders! We ended up going with Nicholas Christopher because we both agreed he "looked" like a Nicholas- but I am a huge fan of Connor Edward! I'm not sure if you're a dog person or not, but I loved that the meaning of Connor is "lover of hounds" David and Edward are both solid middle name choices. Is either a family name?
I always thought waiting to see what name the baby "looked" like was ridiculous- I mean, newborns look basically the same, right? But it definitely clicked once we saw his little face! This time, we really only have one boy name, so hopefully this dude "looks" like a Henry!
@RainyDays86 - I believe you should have 100 percent say considering what you are going through and I laugh because last pregnancy with my son I got alot of that from my husband. too Irish too slavic im like wtf its a name that is nice
I don't think it's too matchy @KMD1106. But they do have the same ending sound. But this is coming from the lady whose kids names will apparently all end in an -ey sound.
Our boy name has been cemented since we were pregnant with our first child back in 2010: Hunter Randall. (Randall/Randy is for my DH's dad.)
Our girls thus far are McKynlee Ann and Sadie Lynn.
Attempting to come up with a girl name this time around is difficult. So far we've come up with Remington Kay (Kay is for DH's paternal Grandpa) and Brynlee Ruth (Ruth is for is maternal Great Grandma).
(And yes, I realize that the y's and the e's are considered "speshul snowflake" spellings. My DH likes them though.)
we're still not sure what we're having. 23+2. Baby is shy. My doctor, as of Wednesday, said he's 90% sure we have another girl. But, my husband is holding on desperately to that 10% chance haha. Haven't bought a single thing yet.
@Amybee5 (I'm a little late to the party lol) I love the combo Delaney Rose but that's my youngest cousins name! we used the nickname Lainey on her (never did spell it out), but great combo and I don't think it's too similar to Amy.
@Kipperoo (sorry late to comment) as far as the family connection goes..I don't think it's necessary. I love the idea of using a family name in some way and actually looked for relatives for my ( technically step) children to have been "named" after. But many of my family members and husbands family haven't used family names in anyway. good luck with the middle name though.
Sorry to everyone for lack of capitalization and punctuation. I'm feeling far too lazy to type right on mobile
@chickyclg I love the name Harrison! it's adorable for a little one and will be "professional" (not the word I was looking for but I hope you understand ) as an adult. I had it on my idea list but didn't want crap for naming after one of my favorite actors...yes I am that lame lol
I think DH and I have finalized a first name without really trying. I mentioned it months ago but kept backing off due to the different meanings I keep finding. can there just be one or two centralized baby name dictionaries! ugh Anyways, we're pretty set on Greyson for our little boy. He will have an older sister Rosemary (Rosie) Marie (she was named after family please excuse the double "mary") and older brother Vince Lee. so we wanted something with a similar feel for our first.
I'm struggling with a middle name as I like having the family influence/history. so I've got e middle names in the running, but DH hasn't commented his thoughts yet.
Greyson Wade (DH middle) Greyson James (my dad's name) Greyson Dee (my gpa's and dad's middle, and my maternal gma's first)
I'm not sure if anyone uses Nameberry.com, but just a heads up- they have a survey on there today, and if you complete it (it's super short), you get a code for a free e-book about baby names. I picked the one about boy names. I can't vouch for the book, since I just downloaded it, but I like free things and reading about baby names!

Evelyn is the first name and we cannot get anything really to go with it.
When I google, the normal ones pop up - Grace, Rose, Louise (which is my middle name, I HATE IT) & Claire. Nixed all of those.
Right now the only thing we're possibly sitting on, is Evelyn Macon (my mom's first name, it's weird and I like it).
