Baby Name Choices & Discussion!

Re: Baby Name Choices & Discussion!

  • I love the name Evelyn! I've been pushing for it with DH but he's not going for it! Sounds so nice with Evelyn Marie.

would love some opinions (pasting from what I posted on the name board)

My DH and I are set on Rose as the middle name for our daughter after a family member who passed away at a young age. We've been having a hard time agreeing on first names. DH and I love Josie but I'm not a huge fan of the combination of  Josie Rose.

Would love some opinions on the names we are considering:

    Josie Rose
    Everly Rose
    Leah Rose
    Avery Rose

  • Wow, can I just say that you ladies know how to name kids. It's so refreshing to see normal, unique names. I'm still newish around here and I think I've spent too much time on other pregnancy forums where people basically make up words and name their kids ridiculous things.

I love all these names so far. All of them.

DS name is Hudson Randall, so I'm partial to that name. We get a lot of compliments on it. I'm hoping he will be the only one in his class!

This LO is a girl, we've had our girl name picked out for about 6 years now....many years before we even decided to try for kids. I'm a little nervous about throwing it out there because we've been SOOO secretive about it. So if any of you know me IRL, just pretend you didn't see this.

Her name will be Presley Gayle (Gayle after my DF's Mom, she passed).

@Amybee5 I think Everly Rose from you list sounds lovely!

    DS1 7/24/15

    DS2 5/7/17

  • @Amybee5 I agree with @mrsrep123. Everly is really pretty, unique, and a good alternate to Evelyn.
  • @LuckyAngie I love that name! Good call.

We we just found out we're having a girl too and DH came up with the name Ridley. Our last name starts with R and our son has a not so common name that starts with R too but I can't come up with a good middle name to go with it.
  • Been lurking forever but this is my first post!

One of my favorite names ever is one I unfortunately can't use. I've never met anyone with it and don't think it sounds weird or made up at all. Hopefully someone here can use it!

Evelina. Nicknames can be Evie, Lina, etc. It is a form of Aveline (means "wished for child"), or Evelyn (means "life"). I've also read Evelina is a Slavic name meaning "light."

Another name I find lovely is Lilia.
  • @Amybee5 I really like Everly too! Another option might be Elodie.  I know someone with a darling little girl named that :)
  • @Amybee5 I love Everly Rose and Avery Rose.  Avery is one of my favorite girl's names that we can't use because it is a good friend's daughter's name.
  • @LuckyAngie, I love Hudson and I love Presley! We had Presley on the list for this little girl, but it got nixed somehow along the way.

On our naming front, I'm doing one last push today--putting together a big list of all of the names we've considered plus a few new ones with middle names and sending them to DH to review. I'm ready for this little girl to have a name...we'll see how this goes! I keep looking through name blogs and sites and I just feel like I'm reading the same 20 suggestions over and over and over...

  • I love all these! The hubs and I haven't discussed specific names yet, but we both like older ones. I've got a girl's name that I really like and plan to float past him soon-- Aida June. Any thoughts?

We're team green... I'm at a total loss for boy's names.
  • @Kipperoo - I've found girl names SOOO hard. I feel like there are way more options for girls. The lists are endless!! That's why I was thankful this one was a girl and we already had a name picked out! Haha

  • @LuckyAngie, YES! Naming this girl has been 10 times harder than it was to name our son. Insanity! It seems like there are more options for girls, but also more crap names to sift through (made up, strange spellings, etc)...

  • @cclaineDC I really like Aida, and it goes nicely with June.
  • Just looking for some feedback on some name ideas. We have a 2 year old named Norah Ruth, so are looking for something with a similar "timeless" feel to it. Should be finding out soon if it's a girl or boy, so that will help! If it is a girl, I'd like to incorporate my grandma's name into her middle name somehow (Virginia Edna).

    Top ideas for girl:
    Hattie
    Evelyn
Amelia (a though might be too long as we have a long last name)

    Boy:
    Ari
    Jude

Feel free to add anything that has a similar vibe. My husband isn't really liking my picks so far
  • Full disclosure: This is only my second post here, so I don't know if I know how to tag people or not, so this may work and it may not...

@RainyDays86 LOVE LOVE LOVE your name choice. My nephew is literally named Graham David. I took a pic with my phone and sent it to my sister and asked if she time-traveled. lol!

We are having a boy and have a few first names in the running, but aren't sharing with family until baby is here. Middle name will be Paul (it's in the family x3 generations).

Is anyone else keeping baby's name a secret until they arrive? My sister did with her two kids and I kinda enjoy having one last secret.
  • @MRStaterHEADI love all of those! I kind of like the rhyme-y flow to "Evelyn Edna" and "Amelia Evelyn" is really pretty.
My H just saw "Ari Hudson" the other day and loved it, but TBH, Ari always makes me think Jewish/ Entourage!
    Jude is a great name.

    Some other ideas:
    Violet
    Edie

    Emmett
    Ford

  • @MRStaterHEAD - I love Hattie - it's cute but also timeless. Jude is my preference of the boy names.

    Suggesting: Grey, Wesley, Pierce

  • @MRStaterHEAD

love the combination of Norah and Amelia or Norah and Jude!!
  • @lilly91613 We are! I mean, I shared them here, but we're not telling anyone IRL until this team green baby is born. Even then, we won't reveal the other gender name as we may save it for next baby.

  • @lilly91613, we are keeping half of each name a secret from everyone as they are honoring family members. Keeping the mn for our girl pick a secret and the fn for our pick a secret.
  • @lilly91613: we'll also keep the name a secret until the birthday! Not that we've picked one yet...
With our son, I really wanted to wait until I met him to name him, and I'm really glad to have waited, because the name we chose "fits" just right.

I've seen too many heartbreaker stories of parents who take their time, weigh the options, decide on a name, then tell people and get awful feedback. I personally like the idea of introducing a newborn with his/her name for the first time ever, so people can keep their mouths shut about their own dumb opinions, because it's way past the point of etiquette to say anything negative at that point!  ;)

@Amybee5 I think Josie Rose is adorable! I also love Everly Rose though.
  • I'm settled on the first name Jessica but I am struggling to come up with a good middle name. I would like something short, like one syllable. I really like Grace and Paige, but DH doesn't like those. Any other ideas for short but sweet middle names? I'm very traditional but I'm open to something a bit more creative!
  • @blueberry312 I dont know if they're great with Jessica for you but here are some short middle names for you maybe:
    Ann
    Sue
    May
    Jane
    Kay
    Lynn
    Claire

fwiw I love Jessica Paige but if it was vetoed then my vote probs doesn't count :)
  • We keep our name a secret until delivery.  That cuts down on people making comments about it.  I'd be annoyed if a stupid relative would say they didn't like it.  Or, if someone had a story about a person with the same name, I might be compelled to change it.  I posted in UO on this a little last week.  I'll take a handful of names with us to the hospital and won't likely have a single name picked.  We'll have a front runner, but not a finalist, until the kid is in my arms.
This is exactly what I want to do too. I want a list of like 5 names each for us to choose when the baby is there. What if the kid doesn't fit the name I pick out???

    @blueberry312
    I love Jessica Grace.

Also love PP ideas Of Lynn or May

    maybe:
    Rae
    Rose

  • @ShadeofGreen816 I love Claire Elizabeth. It's classic and pretty. And I don't feel like I hear Claire a ton.

We basically have scratched our name ideas and started over. We have definitely decided on Davis for baby boy, just don't know yet if it will be fn or mn. And don't have a name to go with it. Davis is my maiden name and I've always thought it made a cute boys name. Plus it is significant. Not only being my maiden, but my Grampy hasn't been doing well the past year and feel it'd mean a lot to honor him.
Anyone have thoughts on what to name with Davis? Thoughts on it being fn vs mn? Our last name is Scottish, starting with Mc (like Mac). DS1 is Logan.

  • So mere days after my last post, we've now found out that we're team pink, and suddenly the name Claire has popped to the top of the list. Thoughts? Also looking for a good MN option. Right now we're leaning towards Claire Elizabeth, but I can't decide if I'm 100% sold yet.
I love Claire Elizabeth. Both would be on our list if DH's best friend didn't have a Claire and my cousin didn't have a kid with Elizabeth as a mn. Although I know ppl with those names, I wouldn't say they are too common.

  • Just putting this out there but a friend recently named his daughter Marlowe. I thought that was doggone adorable!

  • @ShadeofGreen816 I LOVE Claire Elizabeth. Claire is actually one of my favorite girls names but H nixed it because it was "too French" whatever that means.
  • @ShadeofGreen816, you can add another in the column of love Claire Elizabeth!!
  • @ShadeofGreen816 I love Claire Elizabeth!!

@newmamaro I really like Davis as a fn. I wish I had a maiden name that could be used as a fn. Suggesting the following for mn's:

    Lee
    Ryan
    James
    Phillip
  • Another vote for Claire Eizabeth. So classic and pretty!!

  • @ShadeofGreen816 - I also love Claire Elizabeth! Both of those were on our girl list- they are classic, but not overdone. Congrats on team pink, by the way!

@newmamaro - Davis is a fantastic name, and I love the family connection. I like it as a first name- it's different, but not weird.

  • @Kipperoo: If you're still making your list of girl names, here's my full top-20 "keepers" list that I've been adding to since September. We just found out our little one's gonna be a boy! so I have the opposite problem as you: too few boy names are "wowing" me right now, so I need to work on that, but a TON of girl names are written here that I can now release into the world... so, in no particular order:

---Ella, Nora, Ava, Allie, Evie, Anna, Layla, Lilianna, Norrie (loveit!), Aria, Lyra, Chloe, Natalie (classic!), Paige, Story, Noelle (top 3), Eva, Michaela, Clara, Celeste, Colette, Isla, Ayla, Mina, Arden, Evelyn
---Hawaiian names (because it's cold in Massachusetts!): Kailani, Leilani, Kalea, Kaia
---Nature names (might be a closet hippie?): Lily, Luna, Holly, Ivy, Petal, Poppy, Aurora, Cassia (soo pretty), Violet, Eden, Forest, Juniper, Calla

  • Thanks for the suggestions, @SKZW! There are so many pretty ones--I especially love Norrie! We had Clara, Celeste, Colette, Evelyn, and Violet on the list, but they mostly got nixed by my super picky husband. I think we are FINALLY settled on a first name (the same one I've been pushing for months and trying to come up with alternatives to that we love as much). Now we've got some middle name drama...

So, here's a question for everyone: how many of you feel that it is really important for some part of the name to be pulled from somewhere in your family? I believe we've got our first name, but are now struggling with a middle name. Options we've narrowed to are: Estelle Ruby (Ruby is a family name) and Estelle Juliet (which I much prefer, but has no family connection). To me, the family connection is no biggie (never been a thing in my family), but to my husband, it seems to be a bigger deal. My son has my husband's first name as his middle name (Sullivan Randal), so he thinks it's weird for little miss Estelle to not have a family middle name...

  • @Kipperoo I think it probably depends on the family. My family never really focuses on that and there's very little family names being reused so no one would care. I know some families find it a big deal though. For our girl name, there is no family connection. Our boy name does, but not really intentionally.
