  • What's better for my Prius... Britax B-Safe 35 or Chicco KeyFit 30? I keep going back and forth and can't seem to make a decision.

  • @MotherofDragons that's what we are doing today too! Dh thinks we have "plenty" of time. He doesn't realize the babies room needs new paint, carpet and cleaned out (it's full of his crap) before we can even start to get it ready for baby. It was his man room, so he is procrasting. He is going to be gone a ton in the next few months and I can do most of it. But with 2 kids to take care of I'm not sure how he thinks I'll get it all done before I'm huge.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 the one near us has an amazing stroller selection too and they are out so that you can test 'drive' them.  We also had a local non-chain baby store (closed in 2016) that had a stroller room so mom's could test drive them and it so helpful as they are expensive and just too many in the market to really know which one fits you and your budget best.  If nothing else it can confirm the one you think you want.
  • @michaela0704 The last time we made the trek out to BBB we did the stroller thing and got that all figured out. We didn't have time to also test out the car seats in my car, but we did narrow it down to either the Britax or the Chicco, mostly based on the sales rep's recommendation. But I also did some internet research and the 2 seats seem pretty comparable and can work with the City Mini GT (the stroller we want). Will have to go back to the store and see how they fit in my Prius but I'm also wondering if anyone on here has any personal experience?

  • @wifeinraleigh28 our BRU is not overtly helpful, but if you specifically ask they will also allow you to take carsests out to your car to see what fits.

Also, this site helps with figuring out car seats that fit 3 across in vehicles, but could give some info about which fits better in your car in general.  They have most makes and models, by year since body styles change.

I don't know about fit but I have used both models and found the chicco way more user friendly for clicking in and out of the base and installation fwiw.  I drive a jetta sportswagen.
  • @awillis13 Wow, thank you for that link!! Definitely seems like the Keyfit is the way to go since apparently 3 will fit across the back seat of my 2012 Prius! (Not that I have or am planning on having 3 kids, but it's good to know that all seats in the back will be useable with it). I'm also planning to buy a Diono Radian RXT when we switch our baby to a convertible seat and I'm glad to see that 3 of those will fit as well. Thank you, this is exactly what I needed to see!

  • I have really become accustomed to waking up around 8:30 while on Xmas break and am so sad to return to 5:45 tomorrow.

We broke down and scheduled an ultrasound for $50 at one of those 3D places to find out if we are having a boy or a girl on Wednesday. Our anatomy scan is 1/25 so we have no legit reason other than being impatient. I'm so exciiiiited to find out now though!
  • @wifeinraleigh28 We had the regular Prius and I was soooooo uncomfortable in the passenger seat with DD behind me. The solution was for me to drive (I'm taller than the Mr) since she won't rear face forever.

Now we have the Prius V and I don't even notice she's behind me on the passenger side. We got another Chicco Keyfit since the old one expired but we have all the other accessories for it (newer base for the 2nd car, stroller adapters, etc)

We never tried the B-Safe as we were gifted our original Keyfit. We do adore our Blvd clicktight convertibles now though!!

  • @LMMama we are doing that too. Our our anatomy scan is on the 25th as well. But we wanted our girls with us when we find out. So we are making it a fun family outting. We go on Saturday. Fx we both have corporative babies!

Mom to Madison- 5 and Lillian 2....and now surprise baby #3!
  • @silliegirlie143 How tall are you? I'm pretty short so I'm hoping it won't be an issue, but it might be hard if DH is the passenger and the baby is behind him. What about putting the seat in the middle? I've heard that is safer anyway, but haven't looked into it too much yet. This is my first so I haven't dealt with car seats yet!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 we have been all over that website, because DH has a Dodge Ram crew cab (the back seat with not the full doors, so smaller leg room) and we have to fit 3 across and figure out which rear facing seats won't make my knees be in the dashboard when we are in that car.  It has not been easy.  It would have been no problem if we could have put the infant seat in the middle, but the back seat is slightly shorter in the middle than in the outboard positions, so too much of the car seat hangs over.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 If we would have put the car seat in the middle then I would have been uncomfortable in both seats. I'm only 5'10" but my inseam is 34" (I'm all leg).

The previous suggestion of trying the different seats in your car is a fantastic one! This will allow you to see how much leg room you have with each configuration. Also, I know middle is safest but if you plan on having more kids only one will be able to sit middle so you will need at least couple different seating options that work for you.

  • I need sleep. My little man with the hand foot mouth has been having multiple wake ups the last three nights. I feel so bad for him but don't know what else I can do to help him feel better. I have been letting my husband sleep since I'm off work for New Years but he still has to be working.
  • I was wondering the other day where you STM+ put the car seat with your first. I was thinking either middle or behind the passenger seat. Middle because then when DH is driving I can still reach the baby and I can reach it when I'm driving. I hope the BRU by us lets us try out car seats before we pick one! I have a Ford Escape BTW.

DD sits driver side in my SUV and passenger side in the Mr's car. We went with outboard seats because those had LATCH

ETA: Also, didn't want to have to climb into the car to click the infant seat in and out of the base if we put it middle.

  • We had DS behind the passenger seat because the middle made both seats in my Jeep Patriot (which I had when he was a newborn) unusable for both of us.  In this car, I have captains chairs in the middle row, so this baby will be behind passenger, DS will sit in the 3rd row and SS will be behind driver.  When we don't have SS, DS will sit behind driver.

Also, play around with the latch vs seatbelt.  In some cars I can get the carseat installed more securely with the latch, but in others I needed to use the seatbelt.  Both are equally safe, if installed securely and correctly.  Some carseats just fit better in certain vehicles with one install over the other.

  • @awoodruff27 we are taking our DD as well. So exciting!
  • I don't remember where I heard this but with twins we couldn't have both in the middle obviously... but, supposedly the safest is middle, then behind the driver, then behind the front passenger seat.  I think it is either due to the likelihood or severity of injury/accident for the passenger side of the vehicle... didn't they used to call the passenger seat the suicide or death seat due to the higher risk?

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2564455/

One of my boys had to sit on that side so I don't say that to make any PP feel bad for having a LO on that side.

  • Does anyone else watch The Bachelor? I was thinking about making a bachelor thread to talk about it, but wasn't sure if anyone else even cared! LOL

We put number 1 behind the passenger seat because I couldn't reach the middle of the car to click her seat in being only 5'3.  The passenger side is generally safer than the driver side especially if you are parking on the street offen.

I don't post here a lot but, when you will have all three is it pretty easy to have access your DS in the 3rd row? I have a durango and 3 seats will not fit in my backseat. DD is the oldest and can sit in a booster by the time LO comes but she will go in the 3rd seat (if we don't have a new car by then). I feel like she would be so far back, it makes me nervous.
  • We had DD on the passage side...we didn't have latch in the middle and even if we did it would have caused both front seats to be affected rather than one.  I'm short so she would have fit on the driver side of my car (and if she's still rear facing when this one is born that's where she'll go) but DH's only car right now is an extended cab pickup so having a rear facing seat is impossible on the driver side.  He'll prob have a new car by the time he needs to do daycare runs with both kids (the only time they'll both be in the truck anyway) or DD may have to front face in that car (she'll be 2 but our seat allows rear facing up to 40 lbs so we'd like to keep her rear facing a while longer).  Daycare is less than 2 miles away so it's not a huge deal if we have to turn DD.  We'd be fine in my car with both rear facing, but we're both on the short side (I'm 5'3" and DH is 5'9").
  • @FSUNole31 flip a coin, there's your answer. They are such a stressful team.

  • What's better for my Prius... Britax B-Safe 35 or Chicco KeyFit 30? I keep going back and forth and can't seem to make a decision.
I don't know about a Prius, but the Chicco key fit worked great in my tiny Toyota Yaris.  We bought an extra base so that we could move it easily between my car and my husband's and it works well with a stroller caddy.  It comes in different fabric though, so I recommend choosing one that will breathe easier during the summer.

  • @flyingncmama Glad to hear it worked well in the Yaris! This is the one I put on our registry: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YXUVJOO/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_ttl?ie=UTF8&colid=3NZBAB3PXTENA&coliid=IY3TNLPDGMNCV&vs=1&th=1 Is that a good fabric for summer or should I look at different ones?
