  • You guys plan on wearing real clothes immediately after birthing a child?
What do you mean by "real clothes"? I think I'm going to bring a pj outfit (or 2) to wear and then to leave the hospital. Once I get home it might be more of the same.

  • I wore stretchy pants as much as I could, but I remember going out in jeans when my son was 2 weeks old, and I had stitches... hmmm maybe I only remember because it was uncomfortable??

  • @PerraSucia my anxiety in regards to the c-section recovery has gone way up lately. I'm a big baby when it comes to pain.

  • Thanks everyone! And didn't even think about the hairband trick, used that sucker for like 4 months at the beginning! maybe I'll start looking for some cute nursing tops for when I go out. And also get a few nice zip up hoodies that would be good over tanks and warm enough for March weather. Got the leggings and yoga pants on lockdown

@PerraSucia where is the counterfeit site?! Cheap sounds good to me!
  • @concreteangell from what i understand planned goes a lot smoother than emergency? I dunno it is pretty intense.

@leslie1331https://m.aliexpress.com/ it takes like a month to get anything but I totally went nuts.

    This could get dangerous.
  • Real talk guys. This will horrify most of you, but I'm not a huge leggings person for myself. Is there going to be some medical reason that I CAN'T wear regular maternity pants/jeans after giving birth? Because that would be useful information. I do have plenty of yoga pants but will want to put on real ones when family visits. Also for getting home, cause it will be reeezing here.

I was wearing whatever fit and was comfortable after I delivered DS. I guess the first few days I wore yoga pants due to the bloating but no issues after that.

If you end up with a c-section, I think that's an entirely different ball game. You'll wanna avoid any clothes that can irritate the incision. Basically, I'll be living in my sweats and yoga pants the first few weeks!

  • You could definitely wear maternity pants after, xstatic. But I'm with everyone else, I will live in yoga pants. I was surprised how long it took my stomach to go down after. It was disappointing, but at least this time I'm ready for it, ugh.

  • That's actually a really good idea @krob! I'll just feel bad about my dad. He's one of the only people I actually WANT to visit and he's so awkward about that sort of thing. He would hide if I walked down the hallway with a towel on in HS, and I know he'll find reasons to leave the room when I BF. We're very close, just a fully clothed kind of family.
  • @Xstatic3333, the issue (at least for me! ) has been that after the baby is born,  your skin is still loose and squishy for awhile.   So anything maternity with a full panel that went up and over your harder bump,  will have a harder time clinging to squish.  Things with stretchy waistbands will work better.

Same with tops, where it used to be cute clinging to the bumo, I hate things that emphasize the flab.

I had a horrifying csection recovery my first time.   One thing that helped was having huge padded gauze pads that I could wear over my incision to cushion it from pants touching it.   I think it was under granny panties and I had a binder that went over.

I had an allergic reaction to my stitches though,  it was unusual!

  • @Partyof6? My coworkers GF just had a c/s and didn't get stitches!! They had some sort of magic sticky gauze and butterfly strips. Welcome to the future.

SITB - I think I had both?  Maybe internal disolvable staples?  So it was a reaction to the steritape over the stitches I think.  If it is looking like I might need a csection this time I definitely need to find out!

Clearly I have blocked all of this,  lol.  It will be 8 years ago in April.  I will have to ask my OB next time I am there!   All I can really say is the day the babies were discharged,  1 week post delivery,  my husband had to take me to the emergency room.   I was oozing at my incision,  enough that I was seriously concerned about infection,  and it wasn't infection, but allergic reaction.

  • I'm allergic to the adhesive used on clear plastic tape vs paper tape and it basically eats through my skin. Ewww @Partyof6?
  • Yet another potentially dumb question just hit me...

What should I expect in terms of MOTN diaper changes for the first few weeks? Every feeding, do a change?

Also, from your prior experience, is it a good idea to set up a changing station/supplies in your room? Our house is tiny, so the nursery isn't that far. But I'm just wondering if it would be easier to change him right in the bassinet when I'm sleep deprived.

Overall, what was your night routine in regards to diapering?
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • I was just envisioning keeping a portable changing pad and a few diapers next to the bed and using that, but we have very little space and would not have room for a changing table or pack 'n play in the bedroom.
  • I did all the MOTN changes on a changing pad on the bed. It was just easier that way!

  • @WinchesterGirl I remember changing the diaper at every feeding when the baby is first born. Actually, in the beginning my kids were eating every 3 hours all day and night long and I changed the diaper at every feeding.

  • Good point @homemake!

@gretchypoo We went with the bassinest because our room is tiny, so we do not have a pack n play. But, I was considering clearing off the top of my dresser  (immediately behind the bassinet) and creating a mini changing station there for closer proximity.

  • Okay so when exactly can I have my first PP beer? I have been dreaming about it for 7 months and am so looking forward to it. Assuming everything goes according to plan and I can BF right away. Do I need to wait a little while or pretty much whenever I feel up for it and make sure I pumped so LO has something to eat?

This may or may not be something I've spent loads of time researching...

KellyMom says that 1 drink at a time, once or twice a week, is ok. I plan to have one right after he's fed, with lots of food and water, probably within a day or two of getting home. If BF is going well and all else is standard I don't plan to pump/intro bottles for the first month, so I won't have multiple drinks until then.

FWIW I'm a larger sized person, and there are charts out there that show how that affects alcohol absorption for BFing. Also nothing wrong with waiting until you start to pump if that's more comfortable for you!

Edit: I've been saving up a lot of beers this pregnancy, and I'll definitely start with lower alcohol ones both to be safe and because high alcohol ones might put me to sleep right now.
  • @Xstatic3333 thank you so much for that info! I see my mom friends post pics of them with beers and stuff at all different stages of PP so I wasn't sure if there was a reason to wait like a week or a month PP to even have one. I think I will probably adopt something similar to your plan where I will see how BFing is going and decide when multiple drinks can come into the picture. Also, it didn't even occur to me to think about a chart for alcohol absorption, so that was great thanks! My SIL did mention to me that I should pick up what we fondly call "breast-alyzers" strips to test. But we will see.
  • I won some of those breast milk alcohol test strips when we went to a BRU registry event. Should come in handy incentives my favorite spring IPA comes out!
  • Thanks everyone for the input on the MOTN diaper changing!

I'm thinking I will make some dresser-top space for diaper essentials in my room, and as some of you suggested get one of those changing pad covers. That way I can move it to either dresser, bassiner, or my bed - whichever works out best at the time. Based on all your comments, I'm definitely hoping to stay in our room for night time feeds/changes so we all get the most sleep possible!

  • Ok, here's my question....how many weeks along were you when you delivered your first? And was it natural labor or a scheduled c-section /induction?
  • @BlondePeanut with my first I was 39+5
I went into labor naturally, and had a vaginal birth.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @blondepeanut I think you could do a poll for that one!
  • @BlondePeanut With DD, I was 42 weeks. I was induced and after 36 hours of Cervadil they were talking about sending me home due to no progress. Right after that I started to progress and they started Pitocin. 4 hours of Pitocin and 30 minutes of pushing later, DD was born.
Obviously, my kids will be complete opposites since this one will be a c-section next week at 34 weeks.
