@Louise_Belcher I was told to contact my OBGYN right away if I had anything in my vision. It could be related to blood pressure, blood sugar, or a number of other things. I hope it's nothing, but you might not want to put that off too long.
@KMD1106 My husband hasn't been to a single one of my appointments yet. Honestly, I never thought to ask him to come along to the early ones. He's coming to my 20 week ultrasound, since that's a big one. And I'll have him come to a couple more, just to make sure he has the driving route down.
@KMD1106, DH has gone to all of my appointments. We're both too nervous that something could go wrong again. I think when I'm in the third trimester, he might start coming for just the U/S ones.
Me: 29, DH: 31 Married: October 2014 Began TTC: April 2015 BFP #1: 9/18/15. EDD 5/18/16. MC 10/26/15. (9w) BFP #2: 2/27/16. EDD 11/7/16. MC/D&E 4/20/16 (11w) BFP #3: 9/22/16. EDD 5/29/17. DS born 4/24/17 BFP #4: 5/20/18. EDD 1/23/19.
@KMD1106 my fiance Facetimes in for my appointments. It weirded the doc out at first but now we just prop him up for most of the appointment and then point him to the screen for the u/s. I get anxiety/panic attacks when I go to the appointments because I have learned of 3 of my losses at appointments. I am also high risk so he wants to try to be "present" to hear all information.
@KMD1106, my H comes to all of the appointments. I always makes sure he knows he doesn't have to, but he's determined about being there so he can know what's going on with me and the baby. So, all of our appointments are scheduled around him, which means for some early appointments, sigh.
@KMD1106 dh came to everything from 12 weeks on last time because he was laid off till right before I gave birth. this pregnancy he's come to one appointment and is iffy on if he can make the anatomy scan and considering our baby might not be growing as it should and this is a fancy hospital ultrasound annnnd he makes his f ing schedule since he's the manager you'd think I could get him to come for it....
10 minutes into my yearly viewing of The Holiday (one of my fav movies ever), and I'm already emotionally wrecked. I don't have enough 5-layer dip for this (plus, I was missing quac and some other layer I couldn't remember).
I'm glad to hear many of your SOs come to the appointments. I wasn't planning on having DH come today, but he texted saying he wants to go. I was weirded out at first, but I guess it's nice that he wants to come.
@KMD1106 yes it's cool. At first it was weird because he would just start talking and asking questions. The doctor and I would just look at each other startled. Now, the doc asks him how he is and how the weather is in Rhode Island. It's really kind of funny!
DH came to all appointments with DD except the 3 hr glucose and the biweekly stress tests. This time he's just coming to US appts as he'll be home watching DD otherwise (we'd rather not get a sitter if we don't have to)
@KMD1106 my H came to the first appointment and will hopefully get to come to the anatomy scan (even though we are team green). Our work schedules just don't agree for time off. My mom usually comes with me for anything else just in case something would happen.
@Louise_Belcher she will be 2 next month. I'm honestly shocked we made it this long. I'd bet money she's part ninja.
My fiance came to all my Dr appts up until the every 2 weeks started with DD. This time he came to the first couple because of dating US's and he is coming Thursday for 20 week scan.
How much time do you plan for your SO to take off with you when baby comes, if any? I think we are planning on Fiance to be with me for the first 2 weeks, then have my mom be around to help after that if needed. I'll be having a scheduled C-section so I won't be able to drive for 4 weeks and will need some extra help the first few weeks.
@BeachMommy2B DH gets 8 weeks parental leave. I'm panicking a bit because I don't think I'll need him around that much. Last time, he didn't have any parental leave so he only stayed home with us for 2 weeks. That was enough time for me, but I wasn't recovering from a CS.
@BeachMommy2B My husband barely took 4 days off with my last time and I am hoping with this one it will be different. He qualifies for FMLA this time around but I am unsure if he will take it as he is now a manager of an auto parts store and seems to think he needs to be there or the place will crumble...
@Kipperoo she had mentioned it might be hard to get my insurance to cover them since my previous preterm delivery involved multiples and I have a blood clotting disorder. She previously mentioned Progesterone suppositories as our back up plan,
@pshaortao his speech appointment went great. We have had 2 SLPs that would just come and talk to us about stuff, give me a pointer, and never mess with DS. We also had another one that was great but often a no call no show or was very late. I had serious concerns about this new one because she never called me to schedule services last month even after I called his case manager twice. I definitely have a love hate relationship with ECI if you can't tell.
@PghMom412 I know it is coming! DS is 15 months and has the fingertip strength of a ninja warrior!
@BeachMommy2B For my prior pregnancy, it was one of the worst timings to have a baby for my husband's work schedule. He was able to be gone fully for one week and partially during the second. This time around is far more flexible as he does not have any firm commitments for the summer yet. He could be home until the fall semester starts in August, but I would guess he will be home for 2-3 weeks before losing his mind and returning to some form of a shortened work schedule.
@BeachMommy2B H gets 2 weeks to use anytime in the first 6 mos of baby's life. Right now we are planning for him to use them around 4th of July to take a family vacation to the beach, but if anything changes with our delivery he can always take them earlier to help more. We are lucky that both of our sets of parents live within 10 minutes of our house so they will be around if needed.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot does your DH have the ability to break up the leave? Mine gets 4 weeks (if not more?) And its good for one year after birth so he took all of August off. I think he enjoyed it more because DD was much more interactive and we were able to do more as a family than if he took the time off during her newborn days. A nice bonus was he got to witness her first steps.
We haven't decided how we will do paternity leave with this one yet.
10 minutes into my yearly viewing of The Holiday (one of my fav movies ever), and I'm already emotionally wrecked. I don't have enough 5-layer dip for this (plus, I was missing quac and some other layer I couldn't remember).
I cried during Elf and then The Holiday came on after, so I cried right away on that one too.
I'm sorry if I miss tag people. There has been lots of activity on this post since I started reading this morning.
@Yiggle09 I'm praying things continue to go smoothly for you and that baby continues to look good.
@ShadeofGreen816 not to discourage you, but my sex drive never came back after DD. MH and I used to get it on all of the time and now it's rare. Poor guy!
@KMD1106 with DD I think MH only came to a few appointments. I can't remember which ones. With this one he came to the first three and then football season ended and his schedule changed, so he probably won't be able to make it to anymore.
I know it's really early, but I have a car seat question. For those with toddlers or two kiddos already, where do you plan/have you out the baby? DD currently sits in the middle and I don't know if it's best to leave her there and put the baby behind me or switch them.
@BeachMommy2B my husband gets 10 days and that's it. it is more or less automatic and while he mayyyybe could get approval to take extra leave I wouldn't want him to. I think sticking with our normal schedule as much as possible is the best plan for immediately after to keep things stable for my toddler. We will be moving 1-2 months after baby comes so there is more than enough change going on as is!
@BeachMommy2B Hmm, we haven't actually discussed. He works from home though so as long as its slow or he is not on call (which I will make sure he is not!) he should be pretty available.
Ran at lunch to have the check engine light turned off then to emissions. Guess who failed? Forgot after resetting the light you have to drive for a bit. Now just crossing my fingers that: a. I'll have driven enough to get it checked again tomorrow b. That the check engine light will stay off long enough and c. That H isn't too annoyed
@achays11 Thank you and we are planning on putting my (will be) two year old's car seat behind passenger side and new baby in middle rear facing. Hoping that this actually works out but looking forward to seeing other's suggestions. @nda_roxybabe ohh noo what makes them know you have driven long enough?
@achays11 currently I have DD still rearfacing behind the front passenger seat. She used to be in the middle but then it became a pain to put her there. I'm hoping to be able to install the infant seat in the middle, right next to her, and have a little space for either myself or DH to be able to sit in the empty spot if needed. I yet have to determine if theres enough room first.
@Louise_Belcher isn't that a sign of high blood pressure? I would get in with your doctor before going to the eye doctor. Hopefully it's nothing, but definitely worth getting checked out.
I was worried about that too, so I had my mom come over with a blood pressure cuff yesterday. It was on the low end of normal like usual. I did end up calling the ob emergency line yesterday (which I totally hate to use) and that she didn't think it was pregnancy related and to call the eye doc if it persisted. Surprisingly she didn't ask about my blood pressure at all.
@achays11 we have one RFing behind the front passenger and one RFing in the middle seat. If we continue to keep them RFing the new baby will go behind the drivers seat. If we end up FFing them in January then we may need to play around with the car seat configurations. Either way we are going to need to check out new convertible car seats because I am questioning the safety of our current car seats and putting 3 across (looking into Diono Radian RXT).
@Yiggle09 When they plug the machine into your car to check all of the emissions and everything it will flag it if you haven't driven a certain number of miles after the light goes off, to ensure that people don't just get the light taken off and then go to get their cars inspected. I had a small evap leak many years ago, so it was hard to figure out how long was enough to make it pass but not too much to make the engine light come back on lol
@BeachMommy2B My husband works for himself so I guess he will get all the time he wants. Although he has said some dumb things like "if this company calls me to truck for them the day you deliver, I'm going to truck for them." Sometimes I really believe that he is stupid. But I will not argue with him about this when it is so many months away. I assume he might take the days off when I'm in the hospital, and then one when I get home. My mother will be retired tomorrow, so will be able to give me all the support I want/need.
My DH only comes to the ultrasound appointments. Otherwise it's too difficult for him to break away from work. For paternity leave, he gets 10 days. And it has to be used within 30 days of birth. We recently found out that he has some military training for 3 weeks like 15 days after my due date and then 5 weeks of training when the baby is 3 months old. I'm hoping my mom is able to fly out, not so much for help with the baby but to help keep my older two occupied!

@Yiggle09 I dont actually know. I'm going to google how long you have to drive.
@achays11 FTM, but I just read about this. Is your daughter still RF? If so, it doesn't really matter. You could put either of them wherever in the back that the car seats fasten securest. If daughter is FF then she should go in the middle (providing her seat secures properly there) as the middle is the safest spot in the car and she doesn't have the extra safety of being RR where as new baby would. Phew, does that make sense?
With DS, I think DH came to all of the appointments.
With this one, he's come to all so far since we'd had a molar and a m/c in the last 2 years. So far this one seems to be hanging around so he may skip the rest unless they're u/s.
I'm a little peeved right now because my OB won't move my appointment back a week so I can get the gender before Christmas. They say it has to be scheduled with the doc and wouldn't let me talk to the doc. I didn't feel like fighting with anyone, and it's not a HUGE deal, but I'm impatient!

@pshaortao Yes. He can use the leave up to a year after the birth in 2 week increments. I was thinking of having him break it up for some time immediately post-birth, a summer vacation, and then some time on the end after I go back to work.
@achays11 I think the most important thing with car seat placement is wherever you get the best installation. DD has never been in the middle because it would be a pain to load her that way. And think about the vehicles that have captain chairs in the second row. DD is currently RF'ing behind the passenger. Once this kid comes, we'll probably front face her behind the driver.
@CCNellans At the risk of sounding snarky, I'm sure your doctor has other more important matters to meet with patients about than getting you gender results before Christmas. I think more than 1/2 of this board is in the same boat as you. I have my anatomy scan 2 days after Christmas. I'd love it before, but that's the way it is. And honestly, you'll find out the gender eventually. That's just a bonus. I'm sure you know this, but anatomy scans aren't just for finding out the gender.
@Louise_Belcher I hadn't even thought about him being home on a shortened schedule. My fiance works in the field so he can actually a lot from home. So that actually might now be too bad for the couple weeks after he goes back.
Wooooooow I am so behind. Work was making me actually work today, so that's been lame. I read through to get caught up and will chime in on things I remember...haha
Paternity leave: DH does contract work, so if he doesn't work, he doesn't get paid. Considering I'll be on unpaid FMLA, we're limited as to how long he can go. We're trying to save up as much as we can, as having help will be essential. My mom and sister will be staying with us for a week each (at different times), which is amazing. The US is embarrassingly, infuriatingly behind in regards to family leave.
Car seats: DS is in a RF convertible and we plan to keep him RF for as long as possible. In my car, his seat is behind the front passenger seat, and the infant seat will likely go behind me (I'm short). We'll have a new car by then, but I'm assuming that'll be the arrangement there as well. DH has a larger vehicle, so DS's seat is in the middle. In theory, we could put the infant seat next to him in some way (either with baby in middle or with DS in middle)....though I don't necessarily trust DS to keep his paws off the baby.
Sex drive....haha. No. Not yet. I keep waiting for the second tri magic to kick in, but so far, nothing.
Fur daughter: 02/2011 Human sons: 11/2015 & 05/2017 *formerly kayemjay*
There will be no paternity leave for us other than DH taking off 5 days of sick time. That is the time allowed before he has to apply for FMLA and it's what we're planning on. However, I'm lucky (some wouldn't think so) in that my mom comes out after each birth and spends several weeks with us. She's honestly my life-saver after giving birth and the only reason why I feel like I can survive the first few weeks with a newborn and two little children. She'll be here for 3-4 weeks although she'll also spend a day or two here and there with my other siblings and their kids since we all live here (my parents are the only ones in another state).

Thanks for all the car seat recommendations! DD is still RF at 2 1/2 and I will keep her that way as long as possible. I guess we'll have to figure out the best configuration when it gets closer to May.
I forgot to comment on the paternity leave. DD was born during spring break when my husband was working at a hospital. He didn't take any additional time off when she was born. He has a new job now and I actually don't know if he gets any leave. If he doesn't, depending on when the baby is born he may take a couple of sick days.
DH comes to US appointments. It seems to work well for us.
As far as sex drive goes, I actually think about it and look forward to doing the deed, but we have trouble coordinating time.
I feel a little out of the loop. We just returned from Disney vacation. And while on sex talk topic, it was our first vacation as a family of 3. I miss couple vacation sex. I was always a big fan of vacation sex, but with a kid in tow it makes it way more difficult.
@KMD1106 DH has actually come to more appointments this time around, but last pregnancy he was working 2 jobs and it was difficult to work around his schedule.
I'm super excited because I scheduled my anatomy scan u/s for 23rd. Just overall happy to get to see this LO again, hopefully see that everything is going well, possibly confirm my suspicions of my EDD being inaccurate by several weeks, and honestly just super excited to find out this baby's sex since I have no guesses like I did with DD.
Any other STM+s very slowly feeling connected to their pregnancy? I'm excited and all that, but it just feels different this time around.

I forgot to comment on the paternity leave. DD was born during spring break when my husband was working at a hospital. He didn't take any additional time off when she was born. He has a new job now and I actually don't know if he gets any leave. If he doesn't, depending on when the baby is born he may take a couple of sick days.
