WOOOH - we have the room painted! That's literally the only thing done, but it's a start!! Because we are renting, our landlord provided the paint color that he was okay with using. This is his idea of grey...it's blue. I was so sad when the first coat was put on and it was blue, but since we do not own the place, I just have to accept and make it work.
This weekend we will be getting the peg board cut, painted, and hung along with assembling the crib and glider! We'll also move the dresser and shelves into the room! It's going to be a weekend full of getting things done, but we are super excited to finally getting the room ready. Thanksgiving weekend is when we will add all the personalized touches since we want to do it when we know we will not be having anyone over to work on the room that will see it before the baby comes!
@AbriannaO when I bought my house there was a purple room, a blue room, a blue bathroom, and a green room. we needed to patch holes and found the paint cans the previous owners left in the garage......ALL 4 were "grey" something or other. but on the walls they were not grey.
DH and I tried 10 different grey samples for our master and picked a very grey grey. get it on the walls and it's blue. just redid our bathroom and picked a light grey/white color...got it on the walls and it's a light blue.
Had 8 grey samples for the nursery to cover the old dark blue grey color...DH complained it was too tan. got it on the walls and it looks blue ish.
Point being....grey is so hard. luckily we like how the things we picked turned out...but I can see being frustrated if you don't like the outcome. the only room that we painted part grey that actually looks grey is dd1s room and it was a darker grey and the top of the room is pink lol.
DH added a couple wall decals today, as a finishing touch. Something about the layout of the "As long as I'm living" one drives me batty, but he was so giddy and excited about showing me, that I couldn't say anything.
@sourlemon, originally our landlord agreed that he was okay with us picking out the paint that we wanted to use on the accent wall, then went and changed his mind. That was the most frustrating part because then at least we would have had the choice in picking out what shade we wanted, and would paint the room back to the original color when we moved out. But it seems like they're trying to use our ways of making the house more livable as making it more marketable for when we move out because he then decided that we needed to use paint that they use in their other properties so that it would be "uniformed" across all the rentals. We also asked permission to add some shelves in the bathroom so that we could have more floor space, and he decided he would want to keep them, and then had to dictate which kind to get. They're just shelves, so whatever, it's just annoying dealing with landlords and having to get permission. I don't think past tenants ever seemed to live fully in the house as he was shocked when we were using the basement for more than just storage - it's finished, why wouldn't we make it an entertainment area??
But we decided to make lemonade out of the blue grey paint and now we have an arctic themed nursery (originally was not going to have a theme). The inspiration came after everything started to get put together this weekend!
Got the crib and glider put together and the baby monitor hung up in the corner. That shelf will be one of my nursing stations, so I'll get some baskets for it to hold supplies, water, and snacks. The changing pad will go on top of the dresser. The pegboards look SUPER dark in this photo, but once we get some more baskets in varying sizes, they'll hold our diaper and changing supplies, and then some toys, and other baby related things that don't fit in the dresser or very small closet. The pegboards were more of a project than I anticipated, but they are going to be so helpful and fun for the next 18 months (but will be a pain again when we have to take them down when our lease is up). Finally felt inspired to start painting again for decorating. I have been wanting to create something special this whole pregnancy, but have been uninspired in regards to what I wanted to do. Because of the color of the paint, once I saw everything in there, I thought ARCTIC would be perfect!! This was my first painting, and I am working on a second one with penguins. This one will go above the changing table and the penguins will go by the glider.
Any other FTM's have no idea how to organize their nursery? According my FI, I have obsession with boxes and bins. I like to have everything in the best place for its use. But I have no idea where/how often half of this stuff will be used! I'm sure I'll reorganize 20 times after he gets here until it's "right". Any STM+ moms have any insider tips?
@tinattt23 I think it just depends. my way of doing things probably wouldn't work for most people and it took DH forever to learn "the right" way. it changed 2 times as dd1 got older and I am reusing her current system for the new baby. Hopefully it'll work again but I fully acknowledge it may change a few times.
@tinattt23 I feel you! Im a FTM & did a lot of looking for organizing tips on Pinterest, but the info is so overwhelming! Right now I've got limited storage. 3 drawer dresser with NB, 0-3m, and 3m clothing. anythung larger is in a shoe organizer under the crib. It'll change 20 times...I'll keep checking back to see if any STMs have more tips
Here are a few pictures of our Little Miss's nursery. Not exactly how I pictured it, but we got enough of the dandelion theme in there that I'm happy with it!
Done! Happy with how it turned out. The decals took 4 hours to apply, but it's done. I was hoping all the moving of furniture and such would put me into labor, but no. Gingersnap is happy cuddling up to my bladder and using my uterus as a blanket.
Guys! Guys!! We finally made some improvements! It's looking like a nursery now! Terrible lighting, I couldn't wait until daytime because I forget everything! Also, it would look nicer and be more spacious without the full size bed in there. But after a couple of kids I've learned that I like to do the ol' lie down nursing pretty regularly. Also, I want to be able to sleep in there while transitioning from bassinet in our room to crib in his own room. And it's still our guest bed. My sister is using it when she gets here Wednesday for my RCS! It would look so cute with the bumpers, but they are in the closet, waiting until he is like 18 months.
Re: The Big Nursery Thread
We finally got around to hanging the wooden letters I stained. Yay! It feels so official having his name up there...crazy!

Edited to add second painting!
I agree landlords suck when they take advantage of situations like yours to improve their property.
Love the fun colors and patterns!!!

We also also have some decals on the way:
